Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
Yes, it looks similar to Fallout. Even if it's unfinished, if we can manage to free it, I think what has been done will still be fun to play.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
Just the 1st Unreal Engine. It's ultra tweaked for DX mods and actually well known, but nobody dares to recreate it under a libre license, sadly.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
Try the FreeDoom WAD from its home page ( Version >0.9). Then find the Community Chest 4 PWAD. You'll love it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
Hi, I love playing games. But I have a problem, some game runs with low fps like Nexuiz, cuz fully libre systems just not enough for playing some games. My fully libre laptops are Macbooks 2,1. So, for play some games I must to use my not fully libre systems like: i5 3570k 4000hd, i7 3840QM 4000hd. Here no libre BIOS/UEFI/EFI and all backdoored CPUs.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
i cant think of a libre game i cant run on my x200 also if you want rely powerful PC than can run libreboot: http://libreboot.org/docs/hcl/kfsn4-dre.html
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
I play Tile World. It’s available in Trisquel’s repositories. You move the character with the arrow keys. The objective is to reach the goal of each level. Doing so involves finding your way through mazes, dodging monsters and solving puzzles. Each level consists of a grid of 32×32 tiles. There is a fixed set of different tiles, all with different characteristics. Many people have made their own levels and shared them online.

Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
rms and the FSF have no problem, as far as I know, with non-free assets as long as the software is free. As for this forum, opinions vary. Personally, I have no problem with non-free assets used with free software. I play OpenMW.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
i personally would play doom for example with the non-free media as although i think people should be able to redistribute it (especially considering its age) it would not help anyone by me not using the non-free media and its fun to play doom software is different as it can actively impose its own restrictions on you if its non-free and if you don’t have the source code its a privacy/security/freedom nightmare if there was media that could impose its own restrictions on me and i could not fix this then i would not use it

I try to only play libre games, but sometimes I play nonfree games if they run on free software. - Morrowind (OpenMW) - Tyrian (OpenTyrian) - Tales of Maj'Eyal - Frogatto - Zelda: Mystery of Solarus
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
ha! frogatto!! :) I played it a year ago or something more. Beautiful game. I never finished it. Too bad it is not free :(
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
Deus Ex... One of the best games ever made. A lot of people are really pissed off about the "augment your pre-order" mess with mankind divided. I really wish somebody would reverse-engineer Deus Ex, I would make monthly donations to said project.

Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
Also, I play OpenMW. There is work being done on something called Ashes of Apocalypse, which if everything works out will be a free (libre) game that runs on that engine.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
I played proprietary games in 2013, and I agree that these graphics were pretty much standard at that time. Even when I played proprietary games I did not understand why people raved about the best graphics; I still see the charm in the visuals of games I played years ago. However maybe people growing up with these video games will not be able to stomach the graphics of years past.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers

GPLv2 http://wiki.flightgear.org/GNU_General_Public_License . And the data is freely shareable. But beware. Full aircraft setup ~8gb Full world scenery: ~90gb Altough you can download the scenery you'd like with http://wiki.flightgear.org/TerraMaster and well, with just Europe, Japan and the west coast of the US you can do it with 40-50GB. And by activating Terrasync, if you just fly between 4-5 countries... you are fine with less than 10gb.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
If you care about the settings: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G630 @ 2.70GHz Mesa DRI Intel(R) Sandybridge Desktop 4GB of RAM it looks like this at 1280x800, 15-20FPS, all shaders enabled. Note this is Paris, a taxing environment. Most of the time I have 30-40 FPS. Back in the day I played the game with a GeForce2 with the absolute lowest settings at 800x600. Now I think you could play it really well at medium settings at 1024x760 with the ThinkPenguin's machine with the nouveau drivers and an updated kernel + MESA. I downloaded the game from PlayDEB. Just enable the repo, install the game and disable it if you are afraid of some non-free (literally
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
I play Star Wars Galaxies through SWGEmu. The server code is being reverse engineered and is AGPL but the client code is still closed source. I'm surprised nobody's mentioned it already, since there's not a lot of mmorpgs that are even partially open source. It runs fine on Trisquel through Wine. I can actually move the directory onto a flash drive and play it on any computer that has Wine.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
"Search for "Flightgear ALS weather" in Google, too" preferably not using Google!
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
FSX uses custom scenery, which has better quality (not as geometry, but better enviroments). Graphically, since FLightgear 3.0 you can use the new Renbrandt renderer and is on par with FSX. Of course you should activate Terrasync, increase a lot the default draw and quality distance and have a LOT of RAM to load those graphics. 16gb and a powerful Intel graphics card or a *very* well supported nouveau card with current MESA and kernel drivers. Seriously, Flightgear can be *very* taxing, as much as X-Plane and more. http://www.flightgear.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/shuttle.jpg The Shuttle, low orbit. http://forum.flightgear.org/viewtopic.php?f=5=22623=15 Custom airport models And look the image: those clouds are automatically generated from the *actual* real world weather from METAR. FG is just awesome, it has modules to connect even with ADB-S and GNURadio. And maybe you can see your real time position in the latest Marble , but I have to check the its KML support .

Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
his is a modern proprietary flight simulator called X-Plane: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxhfqZQYnyQ FlightGear isn't as far behind here as, say, Xonotic is behind other first-person shooters, but that's because the level where it's close to maximum potential was reached a decade ago. See this video, for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGh4zrBNyyk None of the FlightGear screenshots in the threads you linked to look substantially better than this, if better at all. The game shown in this video is from 2006.

There's an MMORPG engine called Mana, and there are a few games based around this engine. The original one is "The Mana World", but you can find a few more listed by ManaPlus.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
Well, there is The Dark Mod, but with non-free data. And that Arx Fatalis/Libertatis remake with the Doom3 engine.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
I'd say you're proving my point: Doom 3 is from 2004, and its engine is about what high-end games were capable of at that time. That's 10 years ago. :)

What about a maxed out Flightgear with the Rendbrant engine.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
i still stand by 0AD and Stunt Rally being graphically very good
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
I've never tried FlightGear, but looking at a couple of videos, it's not even close. Early sixth generation, maximum. 0 A.D., I'd say around the middle of the 6th generation, based on the screenshots. Stunt Rally, somewhere in the middle of the 6th generation. This is a proprietary game from 2011, which suffered from development hell which lasted for 15 years: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIq0m_d5O5k No libre game even compares to the level of graphical detail here. As far as I can tell, no gamer was particularly impressed by this. So this is, at best, average for a proprietary game released in 2011. And given the sample of other modern games I've seen footage of, this rings entirely true for me. I don't mean to devalue libre games' graphical quality. I do appreciate the visuals in games like Xonotic, Naev, 0 A.D., Kobo Deluxe, Warzone 2100, and Armagetron Advanced. But unless you're planning on shutting yourself out from and alienating mainstream gamers, you should recognize that these games' graphics are nothing compared to what those gamers are currently used to.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
If you like Doom, there is a completely libre remake of the art files, which runs on top of the GPL engine, called Freedoom: https://freedoom.github.io/ I quite enjoy the libre remakes of some games I used to enjoy in the 80s on Commodore 64 and Amiga, including FreedDroid (classic not RPG, based on Paradroid), Epiphany (based on Balderdash), and Pingus (based on Lemmings). Defendguin is fun for a few minutes every now and then. Sadly my laptop doesn't have powerful enough graphics chips for anything more than these proof-of-concept toys. All the really juicy games like 0AD won't run.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
the free game(with the exception of the media) OpenSpades has a server with a counterstrike gamemode with all the counterstrike maps
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
Simple: because high-end, modern video game development is expensive. Think millions of dollars. Almost all libre games are done by volunteers in their spare time, and the few commercial libre games out there are done by individuals (and not extremely rich individuals).
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
domintion (risk board game) five-or-more super tux
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
Why all these libre games above said the appearance seems so 90'-95s? we are in the 21 century.. even when i was a kid on 90 i didnt like so much these visuals.. not appealing much for me...i really enjoyed stunning games like Guild Wars 1 and 2 and others similar, of course they were not libre but proprietary but quality stunning. Why we dont have developers focusing on the same quality on livre games? Why so much retro games? For my taste the above games you spoke i can accept with easy is Pychess, GnuCHess, etc, because i enjoy chess. But other than this...meh Thanks for posting your games though :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
there are some graphically good libre games like: 0AD Stunt Rally openspades(well... it has good lighting effects) battle of wesnoth(had a good art-style ) M.A.R.S Xonotic and i am sure theres other i have not though of and ideally we will have loads of even more amazing games but we need people to make them first (Currently making a Pacman clone in Lua+SDL2 so bare with me!)
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
None of these games are even close to modern proprietary games in terms of graphics, though. As I said, that's because it's expensive to get there. People can only volunteer so much. To be fair, I'd say Xonotic has at least the level of graphics that would have been expected in the "sixth generation", or early 2000s. That's a lot more recent than the early 1990s, but it's still a decade behind. Until we can figure out how to raise the millions of dollars necessary for a game with modern graphics, we're just going to have to accept that we're going to be behind in this department. Hand-waving this as "I think the graphics look great" or some other such thing isn't productive, and may alienate gamers.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
Free games I like to play: - FreeDroid - Supertux - Supertux Kart - Sauerbraten - Xonotic (& Chaosesque Xonotic) Non-free: - UT99 - DeusEx - Quake (with Darkplaces Engine & lots of mods) - plus all those oldie but goldie DOS ganes running fine inside DOSbox

I have a confession. I'm addicted to Counter-Strike, which is non-free: http://csgo-stats.com/t3g/

The games i play are Doom, Doom II, Neverputt (getting it installed soon) and some jezzball clone
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
I assumed PyChess was an engine as well- I don't really care about the client used. I'm happy with GNOME Chess- not really many bells and whistles, but... it's chess.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
Same here, not that much into games, but I love the graphics. I tried to install the chess interface that's the default in Trisquel, but since I couldn't find it without too much hassle, I tried other ones. For now I settled with the eboard interface (and GnuChess and Stockfish as engines) because it's very customizable (though I'd also like to modify how the chess clock looks). I might try Scid if I get good enough to analyze my games. But Frankly this might take a while, I'm far from a good player, but I just love that game. I'm starting to learn FreeCiv as well. Looks immensely complicated, but fun, and it might make me a little less dumb on the way. And When I'll get my hands on a Wiimote, I will play a Duck hunt variant (maybe I could try building a Time crisis variant based on the free Doom version), And Speed Dreams/TORCS which looks real nice, if my machine can handle it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
Quake II has its engine free, check Yamagi Quake 2. For UT... OpenArena, Xonotic and Red Eclipse. Starcraft... maybe BosWars if you like RTS games.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
I do enjoy Xonotic and I guess I already do use the libre engine for Quake 2 so that's only nonfree in regards to art assets (which I'm fine with personally). I played BosWars, but it just doesn't hold a candle to Starcraft and when it comes down to it I figure (again, NOT recommending nonfree software) playing Starcraft once in awhile after I've been stressed all day isn't going to be the end of me. Now if there's ever a libre remake, I'll be all over it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
Not that I'm recommending nonfree software, but I use Wine.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
I haven't played GNUchess so I am unable to make a comparison. Most attractive thing I found in PyChess is the ability to connect to the Free Internet Chess Server (FICS http://www.freechess.org/ ) and find players from all over the world to play against. These games can be very competitive and enriching, depending on your skill level, the opponent and the games/levels you choose.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
GNUchess is a Chess engine. PyChess is a Chess client. These two are not comparable; a Chess engine is basically an AI, while a Chess client is an interface to play Chess with either a Chess engine or another human. In fact, PyChess can use GNUchess.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
Which isn't in the Trisquel repos. Hence my post- where I said that Nexuiz was the best bet *in the repos*. I prefer to ignore the existence of the proprietary Nexuiz.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
Have a steering wheel? Try Speed Dreams. Haven't got one? Forget it. Just forget it. For. Get. It.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
Games I play: Nexuiz, 0 AD, Freeciv, FreeOrion, SuperTuxKart. If you want something Quake-like, Nexuiz is probably your best bet in the repos. 0 AD is something of a cross between Rise of Nations and Total War, while Freeciv is a Civ II clone and FreeOrion a Galactic Civilisations clone. SuperTuxKart is a racing game with similar mechanics to Mario Kart. My favourite games in the non-free world (before I left it) were Fallout 2 and Morrowind.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
Nexuiz is obsolete at this point; the original Nexuiz is no longer updated, and the name Nexuiz is now used for a proprietary remake. The continuation of classic Nexuiz's development is Xonotic.

I'm a bad example because I still do play and enjoy non-free games. Nothing really brand new, but I regularly will play Quake 2, Unreal Tournament, Starcraft, etc. I know as far as ethics go I'm breaking the rules but I do really love playing libre games like Burger Space and FreeDink.

for me man- i broke the rules on libre on this subject but as much as i want to be free i a steam user and not planning of going way from the best platfrom for gaming - i 100% GNU but not when it comes to games sadly. Jupiterbroadcasting has touch this subject but there need to be less Distros before the Gaming inderusty starts giving us triple A Games!
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
Some of the games i enjoy are non-free too. Minecraft, Doom/Doom II/Final Doom (does that count?), GTA4 (formerly) and UT3 (I sucked at it) and how do you get UT to run on Trisquel?
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
havent been on for a while due to studying for my linux+ exam!
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
i remember when i quit steam and stopped playing all my favourite games *Such a painful time... :'( but seriously it wasn’t that bad i got over not playing Halflife, Portal, GTA etc etc so just try going without all the non-free video games and only playing libre games for a week and you may find that you can have just as much fun playing libre games if you can get past the withdrawal symptoms! *video game addiction is a thing!
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
Hey, I use steam too. You're not the only one.

Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
I don't tend to play games much personally that aren't ones I am developing at the time. When I do play games, what I play kind of depends on a lot of factors and is selected from a huge pool. I can make some recommendations, though (in no particular order): - Any of the games by Kenta Cho (Torus Trooper, Tumiki Fighters, etc) - Alex the Allegator 4 - Kobo Deluxe - Dopewars - MegaGlest - Warzone 2100 - Xonotic - Konquest - OpenClonk - Hedgewars - Battle Tanks - GLTron or Armagetron - Endgame: Singularity - Scavenger (either XScavenger or, preferably, SDLScav) - Powermanga - Project: Starfighter These are games that I personally think are great, and the last one is one I've worked on (I'm the current maintainer).

[Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
Hello again. It's that newcomer again. You remeber my Doom/Doom II on Trisquel Forum page don't you? Well now i have something else to say. What games do you like to play on your computers. Again i like to play Doom/Doom II because those are my favorite games, Even though they have proprietary content. Send me screenshots of your desktop and your favourite game to play on your Trisquel GNU/Linux system. (you dont have too by the way, Only if you want to) I am a gamer. I want to know if some people in this beautiful community are gamers too. Do you prefer the real thing? or do you settle for a clone, because your favourite game is nonfree software? Tell me about it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
Do you know any free software games i can play in the meantime?
Re: [Trisquel-users] What games do you play on your computers
I used to play Open Arena a few years ago. That was fun even though everyone online was better than me. I have wanted to try Seven Kingdoms for a little while but haven't found time yet. Both are in the repos. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Kingdoms_(video_game) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Arena
