Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
I also don't have that option! What is wrong?
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
Right click Whisker icon --> about
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
And that is not even the latest version! I can't find an option to reveal the version. Can you guide me?

Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
I suppose that means Devuan repo has a newer version of whisker menu?
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
I'm on Devuan live USB now. It's got Xfce4 4.10. I installed whisker menu sudo apt-get install xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin The 'categories next to panel buttons' is behind the first appearance tab.
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
Thanks a lot. Now I just need to find instructions of how to understand the instructions :-) Example of my uncertainty: The instruction says: 2. `mkdir build && cd build' to create a location for building. Don't I have to give it a name? What would be a suitable name in order to not make confusions for my self or the compiler later? I.e.: Can I follow the instructions as they are, or do I need to have further knowledge that allows me to understand underlying interpretations and perceptivenesses?

Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
One guy at the ask-ubuntu site advocates for sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.12 sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade sudo apt-get install xfce4 and then sudo apt-get install ppa-purge sudo ppa-purge ppa:xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.12 Would I afterwards have to update xfce manually then?
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
The 'xfce4-goodies' package is installed. I might give it a go with the gcppa if compiling is out of reach (for the moment).
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
I still haven't tried compiling myself. Could this be a nice littel first project, and can you guide me with/to instructions?h
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
I think it can be updated by adding a new repo. https://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/1721 https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=9559
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
>I see. It must be something that was introduced in a later version of Xfce. Debian 9 has Xfce 4.12 I had this option on Debian 8 too, and that one had xfce 4.10. My bet is your whiskermenu plugin is of an ancient version too muchy much, mateson. Compile only that one, no need to compile xfce only for whisker x_X
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
Thanks. It leave that idea and perhaps add a PPA for xfce
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
I doubt it will install. Unmet dependencies.
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
Would it work to add the Debian repo and install from there? and would that cause problems in other respects?
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
The packaged version in Belenos is Xfce4 4.10 only. To upgrade, you have a few choices: go with Flidas Alpha (don't know if it's packaged yet) or use a PPA, use Debian 9 Xfce or.. something else like wait until it's there. http://packages.trisquel.info/belenos/xfce4 https://trisquel.info/en/forum/xfce
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
I am running version 4.10. I'll try to upgrade. Thanks
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
Would I have to download it from e.g. xfce.org in order to get a newer version?
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
I see. It must be something that was introduced in a later version of Xfce. Debian 9 has Xfce 4.12.
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
I don't have it. And I've only got three tabs there...

Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
Hmm, I don't have hat option!
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
>In your menu you've got the categories to the left. How did you get them there? Oh, it's very easy mate, do this: right click on the whiskermenu icon, properties, tab 'behavior' -> mark 'position categories next to panel buttons'.
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
In your menu you've got the categories to the left. How did you get them there?

Re: [Trisquel-users] XFCE problems anew (anold!)
Thanks. Un-installing xfce4 and running sudo update, sudo upgrade and re-installing xfce4 did it. (I am not sure it sudo opgrade is really necessary)
Re: [Trisquel-users] XFCE problems anew (anold!)
Well, it is just a metapackage so accepting and uninstalling it should not remove any other relevant (to the proper functionality of the OS) dependency, if none at all.
Re: [Trisquel-users] XFCE problems anew (anold!)
In order to paste the output of I installed Icecat and was asked to accept to uninstall xfce4. I wonder why?
[Trisquel-users] XFCE problems anew (anold!)
I have successfully installed xfce on Trisquel on a number of devices now. Now I'm trying to get it to work on my 'new' T500 (not librebooted yet) and I encounter a problem, that I met the other times as well. I am not sure how I solved it the other times and I have no idea of why it emerges. I install xfce through Synaptic, choosing packages xfce4 and xfce4-goodies. After installation I'm told that there are some issues with some packages/dependencies (sorry for lack of clarity/memory). I am asked to filter by 'Defect' (broken? - sorry, it's translated from Danish), since I have two defect/broken packages on my system. It turns out to be 'e2fsprogs' and 'xfce4'. I have tried to reinstall and I have updated and upgraded with no impprovement. Does anyone know how to solve this?
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
Worried about "think" means "not sure" which to a security/privacy seeking itiot like me means: Could be a risk to privacy/security.
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
Worried about what? The license of the theme is GPLv3.
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
https://libreboot.org/docs/hcl/imac52.html It seems they know but haven't had the time yet, so I guess you are right, CalmStorm, they would probably appreciate that
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
I also would like to flash Libreboot myself I know what you mean. That one reason why I supplemented my x200 with a MacBook2,1 :-)
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
If imac 5,2 works for libreboot, tell the libreboot devs how you did it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
I could do that, but here are a few other advantages (for me at least) to having a separate desktop like having your documents and pictures on two computers in case a hard drive fails, better sound (this could be solved by external speakers for the laptop, too). I also would like to flash Libreboot myself, when I bought my thinkpad it was already flashed with Libreboot. Anyway, I'll keep your suggestion in mind.
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
Yeah, I reckon. How about a dock with attached larger display and keyboard? Two displays can be convenient.
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
I am planning to buy an imac 5,2 and flash Libreboot on it. It uses the same ROM as the macbook 2,1. If the macbook has some weird problems, the imac might also have them. But if you say the macbook works, I will just try and see how it goes.
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
Generally I'ld say it works fine. I still haven't had the time to work a lot with it so I have almost only done some email (Icedove) and web (Abrowser). So far I'm happy. This is more or less the first time I work on an Apple computer and I still need to get used to some keys different position. At this moment I don't know where the at-mark key is! When installing there are some quirks. I am working on a more detailed guide, but I need some time. So far it's: https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/liberating-macbook-21-flashing-libreboot-and-installing-trisquel Feel free to ask again...
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
This is good and enlightening information. But I am a little worried about the use of "think". Do you have the knowledge and insight to seek (and understand) verification on this issue?
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
Arc just happens to be a very complex one. I see no difference in terms of performance, and I have a very old laptop. :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
This doesn't answer any of your questions, but I wanted to ask if there are any quirks with the macbook not mentioned on the Libreboot website. So are there any? Thanks
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
Thanks. That looks good. Is there any performance issues with themes? That is, will complex themes eat the machines memory?
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
>...it looks like it's running on some old MS machine in safe mode. :D True, by default Xfce is not very sexy. But you can make it look very nice very easily. I am currently using the Arc gtk theme, with the Arc icon theme (inheriting moka icons). This is how it looks (I just set the panel transparent) -> https://framapic.org/JMFTHyGeSHAY/IMCnkSwwh8yw.png Here, dem links -> https://github.com/horst3180/arc-theme https://github.com/horst3180/arc-icon-theme https://github.com/snwh/moka-icon-theme
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
Thanks for pointing me to consider that as well. I was actually only concerned about security. Can't themes contain malicious software?
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
Thanks. Now I got Whisker running and I'm a happy man. About downloading themes via xfce-look.org, do you automatically trust that software?
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
1. You can make XFCE look like anything you want if you look for more themes. A good place is here: http://www.xfce-look.org/ 2. If you right click on the panel and then select Panel, and then Panel Preferences you will get a window like what you see in the attached image so that you can set your panel up the way you like. I hope this helps!
