Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel without reinstalling
Ah, right, Sorry.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel without reinstalling
gnome-session-flashback isn't a package in Trisquel like it is in Ubuntu; the actual package is trisquel-session.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel without reinstalling
no
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel without reinstalling
Is MATE really available in Trisquel 7? I see the mate-desktop package, but the description of the package suggests it only provides some minor facilities, like an About window. Some things I don't see: - Caja (MATE's file manager) - Pluma (MATE's text editor) - Atril (MATE's PDF viewer) - Engrampa (MATE's archive manager) - MATE Terminal - Marco (MATE's window manager) - Mozo (MATE's menu editor) In fact, all I see in Trisquel 7's repo related to MATE seem to be things like icon themes and backgrounds, which I suppose could be used with another GTK+ DE like Xfce or GNOME Flashback, but are otherwise useless on their own.

Th method for Trisquel 6 is wrong (it should be exactly like for Belenos but with trusty replaced with precise).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel without reinstalling
My guess is you need to remove, perhaps among others: gnome-session-flashback, gnome-session, nautilus, gnome-terminal, gnome-control-center, gnome-panel, gnome-session-bin, metacity, gnome-power-manager, gnome-screensaver, unity-settings-daemon. What have I missed? Try sudo apt-get purge gnome-session-flashback gnome-session nautilus gnome-terminal gnome-control-center gnome-panel gnome-session-bin metacity gnome-power-manager gnome-screensaver unity-settings-daemonIt will ask to have the Trisquel metapackages removed but if I remember correctly none of the preinstalled packages are set to auto (somebody please verify) so it should be safe to remove the metapackages.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel without reinstalling
hi Magic Banana I am blind the NetInstall does not contain Screen Reader
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel without reinstalling
I hope it's not an insensitive question but how do you use your computer, being blind?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel without reinstalling
He uses Orca, which is a screen reader.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel without reinstalling
I can not find the interface package name
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel without reinstalling
I don't use the default desktop, but I think is 'trisquel' metapackage which installs all the GNOME stuff.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel without reinstalling
hi onpon4 is this mene I must remove the trisquel package? I'm afraid from break the system
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel without reinstalling
More accurately, the trisquel package depends on everything in the GNOME edition of Trisquel. The package which provides the Trisquel session itself is the trisquel-session package (though without a lot of other stuff depended on by the trisquel package, it would be a rather bare system; you could get around this without the trisquel package by installing the gnome package as well, I suppose).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel without reinstalling
Perhaps it would be easiest to do a new Trisquel install and not select a desktop environment? Or select mate if that is offered in the installer. This is a screenshot of the later stages of Install Trisquel in text mode. (Dunno if that works with orca.) It can also be triggered on an installed system withsudo tasksel

hi Magic Banana I can install it but I cant remove GNOME I can not find GNOME package name
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel
Maybe I did forget to attach, or it was rejected? It seems a moot point, now, anyway, thanks for the follow-up comments. If there is continued interest, I'll try again, or paste script into a forum message (note: the browser may wrap in strange ways). :) Anyway, since learning of the 'dd' command, I haven't used unetbootin.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel
if you want a tutorial of compiling unetbootin from source(works with both versions i listed) i made a video here: http://92.19.232.58:82/files/Compiling_unetbootin_from_source.ogv
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel
Thanks dave. I didn't see the script but I eventually solved it using dd.. assortment of tutorials. maybe I can try to document how I did so when I have more time.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel
Thanks magic banana. Yeah Building the source would not have been an option, but I ended up just doing a dd command.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel
Thanks. I installed trisquel eventually but I will look into that
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel
I downloaded UNetBootin, but how do you run it from trisquel?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel
what did you download if its a .deb file from the internet i don't recommend running it compiling it from source would be the best idea you can find unetbootin source here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/unetbootin/files/UNetbootin/608/unetbootin-linux-608/download?use_mirror=softlayer-ams also i made a fork of unetbootin that changes the non-free distro list to a libre distro list which you can get here: http://92.19.232.58:82/code/html/unetbootin_libre.html
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel
Herer is a little script I used to use for running unetbootin from the terminal; If I don't want persistent space, I just use the 'dd' command to write to my usb drives. The script prompts user for path to iso image, path to usb drive, and time to wait for the action to complete. It assumes unetbootin is in your command search path; e. g. you installed it from a ppa. Modify it as needed, and enjoy! Cheers, Dave
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel
@Dave_Hunt I don't see a script. Did you forget to attach it?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel
onpon is right - I didn't consider the possibility of you having the 14.10 version!! Don't do that - fresh install is required!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel
I am using Ubuntu 14.10 what variables would I change in the script? and will it not work because 14.04 is the counterpart unless i downgrade
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel
so thats a total conversion to trisquel?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel
Thanks! wish me luck
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel
Hi! welcome! fresh install is always the best thing to do if you have time and patience. that being said, the answers are yes and yes. BACKUP your data before running the script!!! cheers!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migrate from Ubuntu to Trisquel
If it works, it will break your system and/or put it at risk. You'll end up with newer versions of packages than will ever be in the Trisquel repo (preventing you from getting security updates), dependencies will be broken, etc. As the wiki page mentions, you should only use that script on a system that actually has a Trisquel counterpart (so, the LTS releases; 12.04 for Trisquel 6, 14.04 for Trisquel 7).
