Re: [Trisquel-users] Libre YouTube?
As well as MediaGoblin there is also Plumi (GPL/ZPL). For examples of Plumi sites see engagemedia.org and criticalcommons.org. YouTube raises a number of issue for people concerned about user rights and software freedom: 1) proprietary JavaScript 2) dependence on patent-encumbered formats (Flash, H264 audio) 3) vendor lock-in: no built-in way to download instead of streaming, even for videos uploaded under CC licenses 4) centralized storage: most of the world's video uploaded to one platform, run by one company 5) centralized access: most of the world's video streamed from one platform, run by one company 6) discoverability: the popularity of YouTube means that video not hosted by YouTube is less likely to be viewed There are a number of possible solutions, which resolve some of these problems. Using ViewTube (https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/1483-viewtube) or other ways of browsing YouTube content with free code solves only problem 1. Sites like VODO.net, which uses CC licenses and BitTorrent webseeds for distribution, solves 3, and to a limited degree 4 and 5 (in that their torrents could potentially continue being seeded by their swarms even if VODO went down). Setting up a site running MediaGoblin or Plumi solves 1, 2, 3, and if lots of people do it, that solves 4. The really tricky problem is 5, which is a consequence of 6. I've made a number of attempts to look for audio-visual material outside of YouTube, especially video under CC license. It exists, but its much harder to find what I'm looking for than if I use YouTube. Even search.creativecommons.org only searches for video on YouTube. What's really needed is a dedicated video search platform, accessible both on the web and from inside media players like VLC and Miro. The user would be able to toggle between: * searches across all video hosting sites on the internet or only those running free code on their servers * searches for video in any format, or only in libre formats * searches for video under any license conditions, or only video licensed under a specific license (eg Artistic License) or suite of licenses (eg CC licenses)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Problems installing new release of Cinelerra
The are many problems you may find with cinerella : If no sound, cineralla uses by default OSS. You'll have to chose like in Audacyty ALSA. You also mays havee problems with typographical accents (for example if you make a french video for France or Quebec). There are some solutions. Don't make active Compiz if you see some strange behaviour with it. Do you work with other people using cinerella ?

[Trisquel-users] Problems installing new release of Cinelerra
Hello community, I´m new both to triskel and linux. In spite of that I managed to compile linux programs on my distro by following instructions from articles and forums. I m trying to do the same with a new release from the linux video editor Cinelerra but I m completely unsuccesful. cinelerra.org/2015/index.php/2014-11-19-00-57-12/cinelerra Following instructions from the link above does not work for me: wget http://cinelerra.org/2015/downloads/cinelerra-5.0-ubuntu-14.04.1-i686-20150704.txz this work, and I got the compressed file, then I type: tar -xvf cinelerra-5.0-ubuntu-14.04.1-i686-20150704.txz so the content from.txz gets into the directory from where I´m typing these instructions, my home directory. I check files and folders... but I m unsuccesful on the last point To start Cinelerra simply: (on terminal in cinelerra) ./cinelerra !!! this does not run and the script exists on the folder where I m typing from. I suposse it means to start compiling Cinelerra. What am I missing?, or how could I compile this program by myself on trisquel?. Would like to run it on, so thanks in advance to those who could bring any light. Regards I already got git clone http://cinelerra.org/git-repo/cinelerra which is the source code complete.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Problems installing new release of Cinelerra
Try this sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cinelerra-ppa/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install cinelerra-cv
Re: [Trisquel-users] Crowdfunding a game I'm developing: ReTux (Mario-inspired game)
That would be a huge amount of additional work. I have decided to send gratis copies of the current game to reviewers, though. If you know of one which has a decent audience, that might give reTux a review, please do let me know about them. :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Problems installing new release of Cinelerra
I warn you. The author says Cinelerra works better with 64 bits computers.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Problems installing new release of Cinelerra
You have to make the script executablechmod +x /path/to/script (. means the folder you're currently in)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Problems installing new release of Cinelerra
After an installing with the solution I gave you I saw that Trisquel 7 (working on a 64 bits computer) needs the libquicktimecine-cv. I've been to the following adress : https://launchpad.net/~cinelerra-ppa/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+sourcepub/2783087/+listing-archive-extra to find it. But it does't seems to work. I've already tried to install cinerella but I finally gave up because of problem of dependancies.

24k is slave wages, who would work for that. You might beable to pay to eat. That's it. Better to be dead if that were the case.

[Trisquel-users] Addon repository with free music software.
I have created an addon repository with free software that one can use for music production. Currently It only contains v.Connect-STAND, Japanese singing synthesizer and a newer version of the speech toolkit WORLD that is used by v.Connect-STAND. Unfortunately the developer of WORLD dropped the copyleft, but the software is still free. My repository is here[1], I do not use PPAs anymore. Instead I build the packages on my laptop using cowbuilder[2]. [1] http://ongakunix.isengaara.de/ [2] https://wiki.debian.org/cowbuilder

Re: [Trisquel-users] New Updates: Opensource/Free FPS standalone mod of Xonotic (ChaosEsque) version 57 etc.
The lin binaries don't lauch for you? (There the ones I compiled and use on my 64 and 32 bit boxen). Why is linux always like this. It's almost never binary compatable past a few years... (and gcc nolonger supports static linking I hear). If it complains it can't find a library, just symlink whatever version you have to what filename it's demanding. That usually works for me. If I still can't get something to work then I make. (you just need to compile darkplaces)
[Trisquel-users] Re : How to boot Trisquel netinstall in that chinese EPC 'smartbook's
If it is an Intel/AMD architecture, Trisquel NetInstall should run. You could even try Trisquel Mini. Otherwise, Debian (without the contrib and the nonfree sections of the software repository). The laptop must have a BIOS. Try writing the Live ISO on the SD card.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Problems installing new release of Cinelerra
Thanks for the links Adonay. It seems that Natron is more for post production and special FX than editing. I had a look at OpenShot but can really tell if it's more stable than Pitivi already installed in Trisquel. It seems really basic. It seems to be good software for people who have to make a video editing quickly without having the time to understand how it works. But comparing to Pitivi, I like when Pitivi is asking first what is your project (sreen size, frames per minutes) Both on Trisquel 6 7, I always have an unstable Pitivi. I always have to save my project or restart it because I can't do anything or Pitivi have bugs in showing my edition. But I always had correct out renderings. Blender doesn't support to work with ogg formats. You have to transfer into mp4 before. But it does a great job in editing ! Kdenlive seems to be a good compromise between OpenShot/Pitivi and Blender for usual editing (you tube, mediagoblin) but limits the video and audio tracks. Seems really easy to use.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Five nights at freddies for trisquel?
Well according to wine's website should run just fine five: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=applicationiId=16298 I wouldn't recommend it though, I don't think is in no way free software. But I may be wrong. I just fount out that a SMBX's re-implementation was made that is free software, so you never know.
Re: [Trisquel-users] How to boot Trisquel netinstall in that chinese EPC 'smartbook's
That is not exactly true. The restricted boot on ARM generally applies to devices running Windows (not Win CE). Now some may need a non-free stage one loader (that loads u-boot), but that is rare on many of these sub / cheap machines like the one pictured. I have had a few of these and they are not restricted in any way. No, you won't be able to run Trisquel on it, but you can run many other things on it (if you know what you are doing and have the time to hack on it).
Re: [Trisquel-users] How to boot Trisquel netinstall in that chinese EPC 'smartbook's
Now some may need a non-free stage one loader (that loads u-boot) The issue is: what the free stage one loader you suggest me, I prefer to ask here instead of other places. Lacks something to boot him. I wish to know what lacks in Trisquel netinstall to make it? Please tell me if possible, I need to know everything if needed, information around of it sparsely spreaded through internet. Not '(OFF) Debian' necessarily, only tell if possible the specifities of the 'how to boot free software at ARM?'. Thank you.

Re: [Trisquel-users] How to boot Trisquel netinstall in that chinese EPC 'smartbook's
Yes, it's ARM 8650. I found that there are Debian's solutions to EPC's Smartbooks. We should to encourage what supports software freedom. If he runs Debian so also must to run a fully free distribution. But free as in freedom never will be easy.
Re: [Trisquel-users] How to boot Trisquel netinstall in that chinese EPC 'smartbook's
Hi dear, Excuse my ignorance, but if nothing stop the boot at least the SD Card read that script, what would be of him freedomless?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Crowdfunding a game I'm developing: ReTux (Mario-inspired game)
Why not release a free (an in freedom) prototype for people to play then decide to fund?
Re: [Trisquel-users] How to boot Trisquel netinstall in that chinese EPC 'smartbook's
My gut says that isn't an X86 system. Trisquel won't work if my gut is right. Windows CE usually ran (always or almost always?) on non-X86 devices. No BIOS is probably also a pretty big hint that it isn't X86. Though I'm assuming we're being pretty broad in scope when we say BIOS.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Five nights at freddies for trisquel?
Five Nights at Freddie's is proprietary software. I recommend you find some better-- and free-er-- games.
Re: [Trisquel-users] How to boot Trisquel netinstall in that chinese EPC 'smartbook's
You're in trouble, I think that it has a ARC cpu with no BIOS, so, it's a trash hardware. ARM has a fully restricted boot. I searched for buy a one chinesse Andorid/WindowsCE netbook, but you get it fully restricted, you can't isntall anything. Don't buy this cheap restricted trash.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Is this Librem13 fully free this time?
That's kinda the point I'm making. There are people who are *really* dedicated to making this stuff happen. Some people are working on it part time with 2nd real jobs and others have muster'd up the bare minimum of resources to survive, but as a result can work on these issues full time. We're funding a few of them because want the same thing (ie freedom, not for them to barely survive, but hopefully they'll thrive in time). I can think of 4-5 people who post here regularly or occasionally like this. There are some people who have also done well financially and are also contributing *a lot*. Some are working on stuff part time and some are working on stuff full time.
[Trisquel-users] Very basic: How to actually instal Radeon Kernel ?
Thanks Jason/jxself Denis 'GNUtoo' Carikli for info on a patched kernel for radeon. It would be great to get my screen resolution working properly. I have downloaded the kernel key, but I really don't know how to instal it? I'm not always online I'm assuming I can instal offline. I've looked at jxself.org pasted /etc/apt/sources.list into my terminal to no avail (?) Can someone point me in the right direction or give me very basic ABC instructions on how to instal a new kernel/package please. I'm not running the latest Trisquel, but last stable release. I realise this is way below all of you, but any help appreciated, Many thanks, J

Re: [Trisquel-users] Crowdfunding a game I'm developing: ReTux (Mario-inspired game)
Regular version, under the GPL and with source code (in fact, there currently isn't a binary version at all; I've had trouble using cx_Freeze for the past year or so). I will never send a proprietary version of any program I write to anybody (at least, not on purpose).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Problems installing new release of Cinelerra
Well, I've been using OpenShot for video editing. The key to avoid most headaches is: Use only the most popular audio and video codecs (encoders AND decoders) used by default by free software when editing the videos. When you do have to work with the other codecs, convert them first. I'm not into video editing that much (besides: I'm not into various areas that much, as I'm between every of them, D). However, you can adventure yourself with Natron (https://directory.fsf.org/wiki/Natron) for video compositions, and if you're using KDE (that is Triskel, which is a version of Trisquel with KDE preinstalled), try Kdenlive. :D If you want other suggestions: Try OpenShot and Shotcut (https://directory.fsf.org/wiki/Shotcut). All of these are available in the main Trisquel repositories (except Natron and Shotcut). Respectfully, Adonay.
