Re: [TV orNotTV] Kim Stands Up For Kanye

2020-07-22 Thread Kevin M.
Yesterday when Dave Chapelle was trending on social media, I clicked to
make sure he hadn’t died. Turned out he had dropped by to check on Kanye.

Kanye has been a giant bag of douche throughout most of his public life. If
people want to justify his antics by blaming them on his mental health
struggles, that’s up to them. Regardless, I’d like he and the entire
Kardashian cluster to leave the public life for their sakes as much as for
my own. Everything about them exhausts me, and... well... they are the
opposite of enlightening... I feel like we lose something of value whenever
they make headlines.

[TV orNotTV] Kim Stands Up For Kanye

2020-07-22 Thread Joe Hass
One of the things "the media" has never really reconciled is their roles in
pushing people who very clearly need to take time out of the spotlight back
into it because it suits their need to fill the news hole. When West made
his White House bid announcement, a friend of mine asked what I thought. My
reply: they know West isn't well, they don't care, and as someone who knows
lots of people with mental issues, this is crass, manipulative bullshit. A
pox on the lot of them.

Re: [TV orNotTV] Re: "Perry Mason: Official Teaser | HBO" on YouTube

2020-07-22 Thread Steve Timko
An unscientific survey of people on my Facebook timeline shows they declare
it a hit.
The most common comment is that it compares to "Carnavale." I have not seen
that show so I can't comment.
One Facebook friend said it compares to "The Wire" and "The Sopranos."
Seems unlikely, but it is being praised.

Re: [TV orNotTV] What show were you watching when a major news event happened?

2020-07-22 Thread David Risner
I was watching Bear in the Big Blue House on Disney Channel with my just
starting to walk daughter when my friend called me up and told me to put
the news on the morning of 9/11.

Most things, though, have happened during the day when at work or in
school. I did watch the tsunami that hit Japan, but I turned on the TV to
see it after reading something on Twitter about it.

2020-07-22 Thread daniel anderson
I was watching the World Series in 1989 when the Earthquake happened. I can
still remember hearing Al Michaels say "I'll tell you what, we're having an
earth-" before the feed cut out. I remember ABC airing something else for a
few minutes, before Ted Koppel came on form Washington(where he was hosting
Nightline).

Not so fast my friends. The Penna. Department of Health, which may still be
bitter over the 1993 World Series, scuttled the plan.

It sure looks like it ain't happening:
https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/news/blue-jays-pittsburgh-why-it-works/1cfi00t6k038a1hwi798ah2svh
(disregard
the link copy).

I have repeatedly taken the stance that the obsession of organized sports
to interject itself in the middle of a national health crisis is an
indictment of the entire field. That MLB literally has a homeless team 48
hours before this farce is supposed to begin is where I'd laugh if I didn't
know people who have Covid-19.

[TV orNotTV] IYC: "The Bell" narrows menu

2020-07-22 Thread 'Bob Jersey' via TVorNotTV
Useless to nondriving me. The local store offered a pickup window where its
dining-room entry would have been, but it's allegedly only for folks who
(1) ordered through the app (NOT the website) and (2) would still be
driving. Delivery adds a minimum of $4 to the bill.
