[U2] MQ Series API

2007-12-12 Thread Brian Leach
All
According to the docs, the Websphere MQ Series API in UniVerse uses the
Application Messaging Interface (AMI). But, that isn't supported in the latest
version of Websphere MQ.
So what's the story?
What do I need, if I am upgrading Websphere MQ and will the UniVerse API still
work?
Thanks

[U2] sigh phantom ?

2007-12-12 Thread Doug Chanco
Sigh I feel like such a newbie but anyway is there a way to using
PORT.STATUS to tell if a process is a phantom process? If it wasn't for
the fact that I called my program FTP.PHANTOM ftp://ftp.phantom/ I
never know it's a phantom process.

All phantom process in jBASE are given port numbers above 10,000 so it's
very easy to tell a phantom process by it's port number

I won't say jBASE does .. anymore but assume that

:-)

PORT.STATUS output:

24998 chando 0xACEB9E59 RUN TEST FTP.PHANTOM [ FTP.PHANTOM @ 0x38
]

Any insight on what the text in brackets means?

[ FTP.PHANTOM @ 0x38 ]

Thanks everyone

I'd recommend ShoreTel and Inter-Tel (MiTel). Both seem to
 beat Avaya. We
are currently in the process of deciding between them, or an Asterisk
solution (which is looking more and more tempting and not
 based on cost
 alone).

 Karl

Karl, thanks for the tip. The project has been pushed back until Q3 of
next year, so we have more time for research now. We're already
planning to look into Shoretel and I'm going to add Mitel to the list.
I'd be interested to hear who you end up picking and how the
implementation went.

RE: [U2] sigh phantom ?

2007-12-12 Thread phil walker
Doug, the 0xACEB9359 indicates a phantom ;-).

I don't have access to a system at the moment so there may be another
way.

The 0xACEB9359 is a reference to a shared memory segment. The 0xACE
indicates that it is a Universe related shared memory segment. The B
indicates it is a user printer shared memory segment. The 9539 is a hex
number which when converted to decimal will give a user number. A
regular user number will be in the range 10 through nnn where nnn
represents the number of universe sessions on the system. A large number
around the 64k mark indicates a phantom user.

I think this is all correct from memory. Other types of Universe shared
memory segments have other letters, again from memory C,D etc...

The piece in brackets represents the program name and address within the
code. You can get the actual line number by doing a VLIST on the
program.

Cheers,

Phil.

RE: [U2] sigh phantom ?

2007-12-12 Thread bpaige
PORT.STATUS shows the last executed command - the info not in brackets. If
you're still in a program, that will show up in brackets. The hex number is
some kind of address or offset that points to 'where' in the program you are.

As for phantom vs. regular, if this were a 'regular' login, you'd see a port
number instead of the hex number between the user name and the command.

Re: [U2] sigh phantom ?

2007-12-12 Thread Dave Taylor

Doug,

In UV on Windows:

The LISTU command designates phantom processes as phantom:(PID) rather
than telnet:(PID) and displays both the date and time the process started.

Each phantom process also appears in the PH file and contains the name of
the process that was started as a phantom and the time and date it was
started.

This should help you identify any specific process.

On a slightly different subject

I downloaded the UniVerse Online Library, I have been going through it
but what's unsettling is that almost all the admin docs refer to
administering universe with some windows GUI tool (uniadmin) what I
cannot seem to find are any references to administering universe WITHOUT
uniadmin, surely there are people administering universe (on unix
systems) without uniadmin

I was hoping to find a doc that detailed things that Phil pointed out ,
but so far all I can find are ways to administer universe using uniadmin
