[U2] PickWiki
I'm trying to breathe some life into the wiki sites available to this community. Please have a look at my recent blog on the topic. It introduces the concept of a wiki for those unfamiliar, and leads to how we can make use of existing resources and how people can use wiki for their own purposes: nospamNebula-RnD.com/blog/tech/mv/2009/01/wiki1.html There you will also find a comment with a link to a discussion on this topic in comp.databases.pick. Discussion here is welcome as well. I tried to contact Rex Gozar and Ian McGowan with no success so far. It would be nice to coordinate with them on some of this. As mentioned elsewhere, I'm not trying to centralize content to PickWiki but encouraging development of that resource And others, including the U2UG Wiki which I believe is hosted by Brian Leach. Comments, suggestions, and of course contributions are all welcome. Thanks for your time. RE: [U2] Looking for advice on upgrading from Unidata 6.0 to Unid ata 7.1 o n HP9000 HPUX 11
I have another question that is more generic: Can we upgrade one box to 7.1 and NFS mount a file that is on the 6.0 box and still read and write the data? Or is there something about the upgrade that changes the underlying file? This would allow us to begin testing without having to perform a full restore of the data. We are using SB+ but other than that we do not do too much that is too exotic or fancy. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated! you cannot use NFS mounts to access UniData files on another box that are being accessed locally without risking file corruption. period. no matter that the releases. The reason is that record locking and group locking (which maintains the integrity of data within a group in a hashed file independent of 'logical' record locks) is maintained in shared memory (or Windows memory mapped files) that are local to each system. You CAN use NFA to safely read/write UniData files on another system running UniData. Locking should not be a problem. This will be to a test account that nobody else is using. -Original Message- From: owner-u2-us...@listserver.u2ug.org [mailto:owner-u2-us...@listserver.u2ug.org] On Behalf Of Ken Wallis Sent: Friday, January 23, 2009 2:28 PM To: u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org Subject: RE: [U2] Looking for advice on upgrading from Unidata 6.0 to Unid ata 7.1 o n HP9000 HPUX 11 So long as you don't care about locking! -Original Message- From: owner-u2-us...@listserver.u2ug.org [mailto:owner-u2-us...@listserver.u2ug.org] On Behalf Of Lunt, Bruce Sent: Saturday, 24 January 2009 8:42 AM To: 'u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org' Subject: RE: [U2] Looking for advice on upgrading from Unidata 6.0 to Unid ata 7.1 o n HP9000 HPUX 11 I have another question that is more generic: Can we upgrade one box to 7.1 and NFS mount a file that is on the 6.0 box and still read and write the data?
