[U2] U2 - Universe - Sage MAS90 - Experiences?

2011-11-10 Thread John Thompson
So I'm in a situation, probably not unlike some of you have found
yourselves in before.

Our financial department was unhappy with the Accounts Payable system some
years back when we were on Ultimate Plus.
They purchased an Accounting Package called Sage MAS 90 to run the payables
piece and we just dumped data to it every night, etc.

Of course, since then, we have long moved to Universe.
In that time, we've known some of the Accounts Receivable apps are
outdated, but, its just been one of those projects in the heap.
And of course priorities seem to always change.

Lately, management hopes that they can use the A/R module of Sage MAS 90.
However, our POS is still a set of BASIC programs communicating directly
with Universe.
In my mind, I would think real time communication between the two would be
essential.
We are a wholesale auto parts business, and when a customer calls for a
part, or orders online, our people need to know whether they have
credit with us or not. So the credit balances being on another system, and
being a day behind would not work.

I'm told that Sage MAS 90 uses Providex as a database, and some newer
versions use SQL Server- for an extra fee of course.

I'm fairly ignorant of the Sage software...

Has anyone done any kind of integration like this, where you have made U2
talk to a Sage MAS 90 server in real time for Accounts Receivable purposes?
Or do you know of anyone who knows Sage MAS 90, because our current
consultant, seems to be clueless?

2011-11-10 Thread bradley . schrag
We use MAS90, but only for a small portion of our business and there's no
real time connection between it and our UD app. We just do a nightly feed
of GL data. The standard product does use ProvideX. I know there has been
a SQL option but I think it was discontinued. Sage (the provdier) only
works through VARs, so you'd need to track one down if you decide you
can't roll your own. I've heard good things about Blythe consulting.

I could talk more off-line if you'd like, but I don't know that I can
offer much.

This market could Really use new books that include platform-specific

2011-11-10 Thread Holt, Jake
I'd agree with those people, but from a different angle. If I can't
find a specific answer in the docs through a search engine, the docs are
worthless to me (and I'm far from alone in this). This is why I think
Rocket needs to ditch the logins and make all of the documentation
library public.

Right now, a lot of searches result in the same set of old dynamix docs.

Books you buy suffer from the same problem. This issue isn't unique to
the U2 platform.

Re: [U2] Suggestions for flattening Multivalues...

2011-11-10 Thread George Gallen
I'll have to check them out...although, in this case, I am pulling informtion
from multiple files to make up one table.

I developed a system that builds an image in a dynamic array of each of the
flattened rows. When it builds the arrary,
before writing it, it will read the image already on file based on a key. if
the image is different, it writes the old image
to a history file with a date/time added to the key, and then writes the new
image to a changes file using the source
file as an added key, as well as writing the changed image to the saved file.

Basicaly, I am left with a set of files (dynamic arrays) which mimic the MySQL
tables
I have a changes file which only has data which has changed (or is new) to be
exported to the MySQL table next time
I have a history file so I can compare the changes file against, so only the
fields that change are exported.
I run through the changes, sorted by the source file it came from (added to
the ID when written), the source file
tells the export program the name of the sequential output file that holds
the INSERT / UPDATE commands

Once the SQL files are completed it is pushed into MySQL to do it's thing to
update the MySQL database.
What is good is that if the MySQL database is ever corrupted, no big deal,
truncate everything, and do a full load
based on the dynamic images created, as opposed to doing a partial update.

But to answer the question, no, its not to be visible from U2

It works pretty good.

[U2] Unidata 7.1.20 Pick Flavor Selecting Multi-Values

2011-11-10 Thread Al DeWitt
I'm am trying to help out my users by helping them make sense of what they have
done to themselves. The field in question, Bin Number, is alphanumeric. About
three quarters of the entries are all numeric and one quarter are alphanumeric.
Below is a perfect example of my issue.

LIST INVWHS 27814*001 F1 F2 F3 12:43:18 NOV 10 2011 1

CPN*WH Qty On Hand Shipping Qty Bin Number

27814*001 158 070300

SO76127

My users want all the numeric sorted from lowest value to highest value as if
the field was actually numeric. My thought was to add to V-desc fields. One
that determines if the value is numeric or not (ALD.NUM.BIN) and the other is
the length of the field(ALD.BIN.LN). This would sort based on the length of
the value. The greater the length the greater the value. So the 10001 should
print after and not in the vicinity of 1000 as it's doing now.

My first question is: How do I make ALD.NUM.BIN report the condition of both
values. As you can see below it only shows the first value. I'm thinking I
need a -SUBR statement but can't find a list of them in the Unidata manuals.

LIST INVWHS 27814*001 F3 ALD.NUM.BIN ALD.BIN.LN 12:45:51 NOV 10 2011 1

CPN*WH Bin Number Num Bin Bin Ln

27814*001 703001 5

   SO76127 7

Here is the dictionary item (it was built using System Builder):

Top of ALD.NUM.BIN in DICT INVWHS, 9 lines, 215 characters.

001: I

002: SUBR(SB.SMART.QUERY,'MK':@FM:'E;@1;C3;@6;X;Z#;I2;C1;J1;C0',@ID,@RECORD,@F

ILE.NAME,@NV)

003:

004: Num Bin

005: 1R

006: MV

007:

Assuming everything works correctly I need to modify my select statement:

Before I change:

SELECT INVWHS WITH WHS = 001 BY.EXP BIN

Followed up with READNEXT CPN.WHS,BIN.LOCATION

After I change my select to:

SELECT INVWHS WITH WHS = 001 BY.EXP ALD.NUM.BIN BY.EXP ALD.BIN.LN BY.EXP BIN

Which results in:

Top of ALD.TEST004 in SAVEDLISTS, 1,657 lines, 33,139 characters.

*---: L

1322: 27814*001ý1ü1ý-5ü-5

Top of ALD.TEST005 in SAVEDLISTS, 1,330 lines, 26,939 characters.

*---: L

0447: 27814*001ý1ü2ý-5ü-5

How should I modify my READNEXT statement so that BIN.LOCATION returns the
correct value for each value?

Thanks.

Re: [U2] Unidata 7.1.20 Pick Flavor Selecting Multi-Values

2011-11-10 Thread Wols Lists

Below is a perfect example of my issue.

I think you're tackling this all wrong. Let's create a field ALD.BIN
which is fixed width (let's pick 10) padded with spaces, and justifies
numeric to the right, alphanumeric to the left. The following
i-descriptor code is for a single-value field, but you should be able to
pull the same stunt for multi-value using the iirc IFS function?

0002: IF NUM(BIN) THEN FMT(BIN,10R) ELSE FMT(BIN,10L)

Or if you can't work that out, it's trivial to write a SUBR to do it :-)

LIST INVWHS 27814*001 F3 ALD.NUM.BIN ALD.BIN.LN 12:45:51 NOV 10 2011 1

CPN*WH Bin Number Num Bin Bin Ln

27814*001 703001 5

SO76127 7

Here is the dictionary item (it was built using System Builder):

Top of ALD.NUM.BIN in DICT INVWHS, 9 lines, 215 characters.

001: I

002: SUBR(SB.SMART.QUERY,'MK':@FM:'E;@1;C3;@6;X;Z#;I2;C1;J1;C0',@ID,@RECORD,@F

ILE.NAME,@NV)

003:

004: Num Bin

005: 1R

006: MV

007:

Assuming everything works correctly I need to modify my select statement:

Before I change:

SELECT INVWHS WITH WHS = 001 BY.EXP BIN

Followed up with READNEXT CPN.WHS,BIN.LOCATION

After I change my select to:

SELECT INVWHS WITH WHS = 001 BY.EXP ALD.NUM.BIN BY.EXP ALD.BIN.LN BY.EXP BIN

I don't get this ... if I understand correctly, all you want to do is
change the order in which things are selected. So instead of doing a
select BY.EXP BIN, you just change that to BY.EXP ALD.BIN, and then the
order of your select statement will change, but not the values in it.

Cheers,
Wol

Re: [U2] U2 - Universe - Sage MAS90 - Experiences?

Perhaps it would be better to find a replacement for the AP that had a decent
AR module as well that runs on u2 :-)

Subject: [U2] U2 - Universe - Sage MAS90 - Experiences?

So I'm in a situation, probably not unlike some of you have found yourselves in
before.

In that time, we've known some of the Accounts Receivable apps are outdated,
but, its just been one of those projects in the heap.
And of course priorities seem to always change.

Lately, management hopes that they can use the A/R module of Sage MAS 90.
However, our POS is still a set of BASIC programs communicating directly with
Universe.
In my mind, I would think real time communication between the two would be
essential.
We are a wholesale auto parts business, and when a customer calls for a part,
or orders online, our people need to know whether they have credit with us or
not. So the credit balances being on another system, and being a day behind
would not work.

I'm told that Sage MAS 90 uses Providex as a database, and some newer versions
use SQL Server- for an extra fee of course.

I'm fairly ignorant of the Sage software...

Has anyone done any kind of integration like this, where you have made U2 talk
to a Sage MAS 90 server in real time for Accounts Receivable purposes?
Or do you know of anyone who knows Sage MAS 90, because our current consultant,
seems to be clueless?
