[U2] Report Generation

2014-01-16 Thread Charles_Shaffer
I have been asked to look into a report generation tool similar to Crystal
Reports for multivalued databases. and MS SQL server databases. I've
worked with BI Query before are you folks aware of other possible
solutions. The user has asked for
Ability to schedule queries to run at night
Ability to automatically distribute reports. I think saving them in a
shared area is good enough.
Ability to generate charts as part of the scheduled run.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Consider mvQuery, CoreVu (from Rocket).

I have been dabbling with Kendo UI and ColdFusion.

Dunno.

But if you're on Windows, install blat.

Then, Windows or linux, you can have the script that runs them also mail
them out. Quite possibly from inside U2 using a list stored in the
database :-)

Re: [U2] Report Generation

2014-01-16 Thread Bruce Decker
For lightweight reports and dashboards, I use U2 - XML - PHP -
JQuery. I've baked this into the Joomla Content Management system so
that users on browsers, smart phones, tablets can access U2 data in
responsive templates on any device. jQuery is fast and the sorting,
filtering happens in the browser so there is no back and forth to the
server. It's not a drill-down tool and is not the best choice for
massive reports but deployment requires no special licensing and only a
browser. With jQuery, we can show the data as grids, charts, and more
and with Joomla CMS as the front-end, it's very easy to manage. I'm
deploying customer invoices and statements using Joomla CMS with jQuery
so that the statement and invoice body is fully filterable, sortable,
and cleanly importable to office apps all in the browser.
