RE: [U2] [AD] Green Screen Dev. Environment
Well, the .NET environment works fine with UniObjects in the Windows world. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Kevin King Sent: Monday, October 08, 2007 10:37 AM To: u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org Subject: Re: [U2] [AD] Green Screen Dev. Environment True, not everyone has difficulty with SB+, but having trained a lot of SB+ developers over the years, that's the opinion I hear the most. As you stated, SB+ has a lot of features and functionality, but equally important is the ability to rapidly get results, which can be a significant cost saver over the development lifecycle. And with that being said, there are still a number of shops trying to implement SB+ solutions using BASIC implementation paradigms and trading away much of the rapid development features in the process. This then leads to the perception that development actually takes longer and is more difficult using SB+ than it does in BASIC, when the reality is that personal choices of how the product is used is more likely to have contributed to the reduced productivity. -K --- u2-users mailing list u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/ --- u2-users mailing list u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/

RE: [U2] [AD] Green Screen Dev. Environment
I never thought of SB+ having a "steep learning curve". My spin is that SB+ has a lot of features and functionality. --Bill --- u2-users mailing list u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/
Re: [U2] [AD] Green Screen Dev. Environment
SB+ is generally known to have a pretty steep learning curve, but once you figure it out it can provide amazingly rapid results with minimal effort. --- u2-users mailing list u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/
RE: [U2] [AD] Green Screen Dev. Environment
Have you looked at OpenInsight from Revelation Software. The same people that have done Advanced Revelation for years. They now have a product that will allow the OpenInsight development platform to interface with the U2 database. This is jointly marketed by Revelation and IBM/U2. This allows you to keep the green screens where you want them, but do the new development in a true GUI environment. The report writing abilities are outstanding and from my experience the response time is more that acceptable. You should look into it. This allows you to keep the same data base, the same subroutines and a lot of the same programs and fix up the new ones. I have put the AD in the subject because I know this sounds like and ad. I am not a re-seller for OpenInsight although I have done some development work in the development environment and the U2 interface tool. Environment Hi list, I'm researching the types of character based development tools that are available in the UV environment for screen and report development. We're cutting/pasting code from our vendors software, which is poorly coded btw, to create new screens and what not. It's a mess and I really want to get away from this practice. I know we can use gui tools like VS, MV.net, etc, but our transactional system is all character based and that's what we want to stick with for the time being. I know AREV and SB+ are out there, but are there others that anyone is using that is not 'home grown'? And if you are using AREV or SB+ how do you like it?
