Re: [U2] HP-Ux, Samba, and Windows 7

2010-07-22 Thread John Hester
You're welcome, Bill. Glad to hear it worked. It works for us with the
client joined to the domain, but our Samba servers are also joined to
the same domain. I can't say for sure if it will work once you join the
client back to the domain, but I think it should.

Victory... John Hester is once again my hero.

I did unjoin the Client from the domain and renamed the Samba WorkGroup
and the Client WorkGroup to something different from the domain name. I
expect to tinker with these settings some more.

Thanks so much John.

I've been through that with a Windows 7 client. You need to change a
setting on the client side:

Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Local Security Policy -->
Local Policies --> Security Options

Under "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level", enable "Send
LM & NTLM responses".

If that doesn't work, also try:

Enable "Minimum session security for NTLM SSP"
Disable "Require 128-bit encryption"

With our new Windows SBS (Small Business Server) 2008 and (Vista or)

see the Samba share no problem.

I put a post on the HP Forum yesterday but got nothing back. I am on
the brink of punishing MS by making the new PC into Fedora.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

That may be the problem. You may need the nmbd in order for it to work.
Also check the windows firewall to be sure that smb traffic is not being
blocked.

Re: [U2] HP-Ux, Samba, and Windows 7

2010-07-22 Thread Israel, John R.
I am not the SAMBA guy at our place, but we use it all the time w/o many
issues. I personally use Windows 7, 64 bit w/o any problems.

However, 2008 server DOES have a problem. It does not communicate well (or at
all) with HP-UX (and maybe others). This is a known bug, but there does not
seem to be any real desire for it to be fixed.
