Diane,
As stated the uvlictool will show you the list of pids and what ip they
are connected with, a pid without an ip/computer name is a pid that
is connected from a client that is not using device licensing.
Accuterm, Dynamic Connect (the free wintegrate lite emulator on the U2
client cd)
and other pick terminal emulators do support device licensing,
it is an open interface with a dll that you can include in your client if
you would
like to add the support (unfortunately if you are using a commercial
emulator
that doesn't support device licensing then you are out of luck)
Device licensing is part of the UV telnet server on a Windows based system
so there
is nothing more that needs to be done BUT on a UNIX based system you need
to invoke universe using the uvdls command instead of the uv command.

Hope this helps,

Dianne,

Device licensing only works with SBClient/UV tools. It does not work with
other terminal emulators. And for SBClient to work, it must be at least
5.2.x. Each tool, UniObjects, SBClient, etc. has a device licensing .dll
that handshakes with the server to determine the license count.

Use UVLICTOOL (an executable outside of UV) or UniAdmin to see the actual
license count.

I hope this helps.

I don't have a LISTUSER command in my copy of Universe so I think that's
unique to UDT. The only way I've been able to feel comfortable that
device licensing was working was when I do a LISTU and see the uid
column has the same value for multiple entries of the same User Name. I
believe if you count the UNIQUE values in the uid column, that gives
you your true number of license seats that are in-use currently.

Of course I could be totally wrong, too. Maybe if I take TWO

RE: [U2] [UV] Device Licensing

2005-01-20 Thread Veenhof, Peter
Accuterm has this option in the Telnet Settings Dialog:

Use U2 device licensing (advanced option)

If this option is set, multiple connections (sessions) to Enterprise
versions of UniData and UniVerse consume only a single user license.
When the suppress LF option is checked, the response sent to the host by
AccuTerm is not terminated by a line feed character. Contact your IBM U2
dealer for more information regarding device licensing.

Re: [U2] [UV] Device Licensing

2005-01-20 Thread Leroy Dreyfuss
Dianne,

Assuming you have a version of Accuterm that supports U2 Device Licensing,
you can run bin/uvlictool from the OS command line to see. An example using
my laptop:

C:\IBM\UVbin\uvlictool
Device licensing is in effect.
No. Pid, Package Device name IP address Device sub-key
1 3532 lfdjrlaptop2192.168. 0.101

2076
1 license seats are in use.
24 license seats are available.

C:\IBM\UV

Note there are two PIDs, but only one IP address and one license consumed.
This was a test using two Dynamic Connect telnet sessions.

Dianne,

Does Accuterm have a switch for device licensing? wIntegrate/Dynamic Connect
both have preference settings to support device licensing on UniData and
UniVerse, so it may be that Accuterm does not have the ability to support
the feature.

The help text on wIntegrate say's the following about device licensing:

Specify your preference for device licensing for UniVerse and UniData on
UNIX host systems. UniVerse 9.5.1c or later and UniData 5.1or later are
licensed per client device. If you are connecting to any of these database
versions on UNIX host systems then you should probably check the Enable
Device Licensing for UniVerse and UniData on UNIX box to prevent each
individual Dynamic Connect session from consuming a license (normally
Dynamic Connect will only consume one license however many sessions to a
particular database are open).

14 license seats are available.

If you're running device licensing on your UV host, you would see
something different from Server Edition mode of licensing is in effect
- Server Edition doesn't do Device Licensing as far as I know.

Also, if client devices are using Device Licensing, presumably you'll
see some Device sub-key entries.

Hi,

We have a problem where by we have activated device licensing on UV
system, but device licensing does not seem to work on all our PC's
effectively.

Let me explain we use wIntegrate, Dynamic Connect, Viaduct as terminal
emulators, in the vast majority of cases these connections are happy to
share a license regardless of which emulator we use. We also have some
API's developed using UniObjects, now this is where the crux is whenever
we use these API's they take a new license rather than sharing with the
one already in use, we have been advised that UniObjects is device
license aware!!

My question is are we missing a setting somewhere or a dll that is
required, any help would be greatly appreciated.

We are using UV 10.1.4 running on AIX 5.2

Thanks
