if yes, this bug is a duplicate of bug #38198.

[Bug 51425] Re: reproducible X restarts involving GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL

2006-07-04 Thread Reiner
tried to reproduce this bug on my Thinkpad R40 (ATI Radeon 7500), also
running a clean install of dapper, and failed to do so. so, perhaps this
has to do w/ TwinView or some other xorg.conf setting and/or the NVidia
driver. here's xorg.conf of the above Dell machine:

# /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type man /etc/X11/xorg.conf at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated

As above, direct rendering is enabled. eg fgl_glxgears runs.

[Bug 51660] Re: Look up with smart bookmarks opens results in new window

2006-07-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for your bug. The suggestions about design decisions are better
placed upstream since we are not likely to take a decision for them and
don't want the same application behaving differently on Ubuntu than
other distributions or than upstream. I've forwarded that upstream:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=346525

As said on the uptream bug I think the current behaviour is the correct
one. When you look to the dictionnary for a word on the page you are
reading you usually don't want to replace the page with the dictionnary
one by example

[Bug 44874] Re: auto smbfs mount in /etc/fstab causes hald hang at boot

2006-07-04 Thread Nathaniel B. Jayme
hello,

i encountered this experience with placing auto mountable smbfs in
/etc/fstab

if this is the case try the solution:

1) place a noauto option in your /etc/fstab smbfs entry

2) mount network shares using /etc/rc.local
if your network share is to be mounted to /mnt/shared then within /etc/rc.local
place

mount /mnt/shared

the mount command will further check fstab for correct mount options

Placing it in /etc/rc.local ensures that all modules are loaded before
mounting the network share.

Hope this helps

autofs (4.1.4-11) unstable; urgency=low

  * 072_fix_auto_net_sort: Update auto.net with regard to new sort syntax;
patch from Shawn Willden. (Closes: #339132)
  * 073_configurable_locking (and giving --disable-automount-locking to

[Bug 51662] Re: Runaway leak in composer

2006-07-04 Thread jmspeex
I'm running Dapper, but I remember seeing the problem on Breezy (and IIRC
earlier) as well. AFAIK, I don't use any special plugin and I don't use the
exchange connector. I tried running valgrind but not only is that incredibly
slow, but there are hundreds of errors and leaks reported. The summary is:
==17420== ERROR SUMMARY: 10757 errors from 583 contexts (suppressed: 211 from 1)
==17420== malloc/free: in use at exit: 19,248,789 bytes in 292,773 blocks.
==17420== malloc/free: 4,834,032 allocs, 4,541,259 frees, 280,995,543 bytes
allocated.

==17420== LEAK SUMMARY:
==17420==definitely lost: 26,492 bytes in 541 blocks.
==17420==indirectly lost: 67,047 bytes in 1,625 blocks.

==17420==still reachable: 18,779,357 bytes in 290,050 blocks.
==17420== suppressed: 0 bytes in 0 blocks.

As I mentioned earlier, the problem only happens once every few weeks
(but crashes my machine 50% of the time), so it's hard to reproduce.
Unfortunately, it's just not feasible to run evolution under valgrind
all the time.

[Bug 45033] Re: Resizing calendar items twice crashes Evolution

2006-07-04 Thread Romano Giannetti
Oops. Sorry for the above silly comment. It happened to me too; but I
discovered that in a freshly created user, virgin calendar it does not occur.
To reproduce, I need to import a .ics file (will attach, nothing private here)
from an old version of evolution. To reproduce:
Import the attached calendar.ics file
Go to 5th july.
Move the reunión... entry to 12:30 (with the mouse)
Try to extend the other entry ..junta
Sometime it works. Repeat: often crashes, sometime lock solid.

[Bug 51784] Re: Network Manager executes wpa_supplicant in too verbose mode

2006-07-04 Thread Chris Jones
I would agree that it is really quite spammy, but I would imagine it's because
it's still very new and the debugging information is useful to collect when it
goes wrong.
Having said that, it would be great to be able to get more control about how
wpa_supplicant is run and also when - I seem to get little pauses in my network
traffic every few minutes while it scans for Access Points, even though I am
already connected to one (the only one in range, as it happens).

[Bug 32355] Re: Can't set MTU during installation

2006-07-04 Thread Pavel Šimerda
But it seems ubuntu applications send packets with the Don't
Fragment bit set. So this really is an issue.

Anyway I wouldn't add any question to the installer. Changing MTU is for
expert users (you have to yous registers even on windows).

I suggest editing '/etc/network/interfaces' (and using 'man interfaces' to get
help). It's simple and it
s the right way to do network configuration. During install you can use either
'ifconfig' or 'ip'.

If this is right, can the bug be closed?

[Bug 51807] Re: Firefox equation rendering problem in Ubuntu Dapper Drake

2006-07-04 Thread shanen \(Shannon Jacobs\)
I'm not a different Ubuntu machine now, and I don't see the problem,
either. What it was displaying on that machine was \mathcal... and a
whole bunch of other notation that was pretty obviously a mathematical
notation system rather like TeX or LaTeX. It was doing that for all of
the equations on the page.

Actually, looking at it now on this machine, I see that what I saw was
almost surely the ALT text for the equation graphic, so what was really
going on is that the PNG file was somehow blocked on that particular
machine and Firefox was just displaying the ALT text.

Now why Opera was able to get the PNG is kind of mysterious... Anyway,
right now it looks like one of those weird things. If it persists
tomorrow, then I'm going to be very suspicious, but I think it was just
a temporary weirdness, and I'm sorry to have troubled you--though I'm
very impressed by the speed of your responses.

[Bug 49137] Re: NFS mount does not mount on boot

2006-07-04 Thread Carsten Raskgaard
I can confirm that this is also a problem with nfsv2 mounts.

In 1 out of approx. 20-50 reboots I actually do get the nfs mounts from
/etc/fstab mounted. When I eventually get a successful mount, nfs-
locking is not always working.

Also, everything (including nfs-locking) worked fine before upgrading to
6.06.

[Bug 6627] Re: lexmark z53 blank pages

2006-07-04 Thread frogzoo
Make and Model: Lexmark Z52 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.0-rc2
Using only black ink cartridge.

Updated from the test repo deb
http://www.grad.hr/~ivoks/ubuntu/gutenprint ./

Definitely an improvement - there is now ink on the paper, but the print
quality is terrible. At 600dpi, it's print appears in stripes - about a
cm across, then a 1/2 cm is blank, repeated down the page. 1200dpi is
very faint, and 2400dpi is non existent.

The only thing that's printed half way reasonably was the ubuntu test
page at 600dpi.

[Bug 51822] Konqueror crashes on Microsoft's site

2006-07-04 Thread Noah Medling
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: konqueror

I'm on Kubuntu 6.06 (386), and I can't open Microsoft's site in
Konqueror.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open Konqueror

2. Load the Kubuntu Web profile (Settings - Load View Profile -
Kubuntu Web). If you clicked the Konqueror button next to the K and
System menus on the panel, you can probably skip this step.

3. Enter http://www.microsoft.com/ in the address bar and press Enter.

Note that this only happens with the Kubuntu Web profile. If I enter the
URL while using Konqueror as a file manager, or if I start konqueror by
running the command konqueror from the terminal, it doesn't crash. If,
however, I run Konqueror from the menu or the panel (which both execute
kfmclient openProfile webbrowsing) or explicitly switch to the Kubuntu
Web profile (step 2, above), then it crashes.

Here's a backtrace (sans a hundred or so lines of (no debugging symbols

[Bug 37821] Re: Regular network drops with madwifi

2006-07-04 Thread Adam Lindberg
A temporary workaround for avoiding those annoyning disconnecting
sessions is to run wpa_cli:

$ sudo wpa_cli

and issue the command ap_scan 0

 ap_scan 0

This will tell wpa_supplicant to stop scan. I tried to enter this into
the /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf but nothing seems to happen.

[Bug 51829] Fonts installed on the wrong place

2006-07-04 Thread bisho
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfonts-dosemu

Dosemu complains about not finding the needed fonts, even if they are installed:
-
   You do not have the DOSEMU vga font installed and are running
   remote X. You need to install the vga font on your _local_ Xserver.
   Look at the readme for details. For now we start with an fixed font,
   which does not display all national characters correctly.
   ... be warned
-

The font path (see /etc/X11/xorg.conf) for misc fonts is:
/usr/share/X11/fonts/misc

But this package install them at:
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc

At least a link should be created in the right place.

** Affects: dosemu (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Untriaged
 Status: Unconfirmed

Dennis: thanks for the check, but Matthias confirmed the wxwidgets2.6

I could not sync kiki (also bug 5392) or python-xml due to mismatched
