[Bug 14979] Re: Synaptic says it Successfully applied all changes when it didn't

2006-08-10 Thread Carthik Sharma
Sorry Sebastian,

I did not have a working internet connection when I tried to recreate
the bug. I wrote down the precise steps I carried out in order to
clarify what I did and did not do. I see that the difference between
what I, and the original reporter, did is that he had some failed
downloads and I had all failed downloads.

Thanks for clarifying and confirming.

Thanks for your bug report. We do not support manual installation of

[Bug 40324] Re: Nicer Icons

2006-08-10 Thread Corey Burger
Ok, now using Tango icons on edgy. I am sorry to say that they suck.
They are mushy and indistinct on the default panel. Here are the
specific issues:

On battery power: Too much extraneous colour, obscuring how much battery is left
On AC: Cord is very light grey, fading into panel

FWIW, the panel applet in OS X is very nice. Two colours and very easy
to see relative levels. Now I realize we cannot go that simple, but we
can be better than this.

** Summary changed:

- Nicer Icons
+ Icons are mushy and indistinct

** Description changed:

- Until gnome-power-manager is icon-theme-aware, it would be nice if the
- icons could be changed to tango icons. There is a complete set of tango
- icons for g-p-m, they work nicely with both Human and Tangerine and even
- look better with the stock Gnome theme than the current icons. Would be
- nice to get this in before dapper's release.
-
- Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'gnome-
- power-manager'; however, that package was not published in Baltix.
+ Gnome-power-manager now has tango icons, but they are mushy and
+ indistinct.

[Bug 55847] Mis/Non detection of D-Link DGE-530T

2006-08-10 Thread Stuart Young
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.15-26-686

Bug is also described on the Ubuntu forums at:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=187770

I have a D-Link DGE-530T that isn't detected by Ubuntu Dapper using the
kernel linux-image-2.6.15-26-686.

Basically, it seems this was fixed upstream in 2.6.17 as per the
changelog at
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/ChangeLog-2.6.17.

From there:

commit 2d2a387199bf38c6628adb9c6184d7ab6e306148
Author: Stephen Hemminger [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Date: Wed May 17 14:37:04 2006 -0700

[PATCH] Subjec: sky2, skge: correct PCI id for DGE-560T

The Dlink DGE-560T uses Yukon2 chipset so it needs sky2 driver; and
the DGE-530T uses Yukon1 so it uses skge driver.

Bug: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6544

Signed-off-by: Stephen Hemminger [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Any chance this could be addressed in a future kernel update?

[Bug 55428] Re: Helper applications cannot be changed, even when asked to do so by Firefox.

2006-08-10 Thread APF
I've also run into this bug -- to get firefox to change the helper
application, I had to edit the mimeTypes.rdf file by hand.

(The mimeTypes.rdf file is in your firefox profile folder, e.g.
~/.mozilla/firefox/9vwgqf0x.default/mimeTypes.rdf. If you know the
path or name of the old helper, you can just search for it; e.g. I
searched for 'helix-player' (which is no longer on my system), and
changed NC:path=/usr/bin/helix-player to NC:path=/usr/bin/realplay)

[Bug 55853] local .desktop files after package deinstallation should be removed/modified

2006-08-10 Thread Wiktor Grebla
Public bug reported:

When a user modifies her menu and sets an item as invisible, a .desktop
file for this item is created. When she decides to remove the package
~/.local/share/applications/$appname.desktop remains untouched. If the
package will be installed again (say half a year later) it will remain
invisible, and most probably a user won't remember the fact of using
alacarte to hide its menu item.

I guess that we should try to remove all .desktop files when removing a
package, or at least check if it has been hidden or not (I know it
sounds trivial, but not necessarily is trivial).

I was also wondering if it has any impact on the menu behavior, i mean
how much time does it take to parse these unused files when opening a
menu.

If you think it should be reported elsewhere (apt/dpkg) please set it as
invalid and let me know :).

[Bug 55854] Please remove bdftopcf source binary packages from the archive

2006-08-10 Thread Daniel T Chen
Public bug reported:

Rationale: Due to Edgy's realigning with Debian's X.Org packaging, the
xfonts-utils source package (that builds an xfonts-utils binary package)
now builds a bdftopcf executable. Breezy and Dapper both have bdftopcf
source packages that generate bdftopcf binary packages containing a
bdftopcf executable. Dist-upgrading from Dapper to Edgy with the
bdftopcf binary package installed currently causes dpkg to (correctly)
bail.

I've just uploaded a new build of xfonts-utils that Replaces/Conflicts
bdftopcf, so the next step in smoothing out the Dapper - Edgy dist-
upgrade process is to ensure that the bdftopcf source/binary goes
away.

Sorry, this was during an installation. I've no way to go back in past

To help the developers understand what went wrong, include the
following detail in your bug report, and attach the files
/var/log/installer/syslog and /var/log/partman:

So if you are sure that you need /var/log/syslog (beside
/var/log/installer/syslog) then the message should be modified to say
so.

[Bug 55861] error in running lsb-leafpad on ubuntu 6.06

Public bug reported:

I ran lsb-leafpad 3.1 on ubuntu 6.06 as the site
http://freestandards.org/appbat/fvt-3.0.0/lsb-leafpad_fvt.html .
I could install leafpad successfully, but when I have done the step 2:
Type some text into the leafpad window, enough so the screen scrolls to the
right. Select Options and then Word Wrap.
I did not get the expected result: A check flag appears on the drop-down menu.
The scrollbar on the bottom of the window disappears and the document is
wrapped.

[Bug 55862] local .desktop files after package deinstallation should be removed/modified

2006-08-10 Thread Wiktor Grebla
Public bug reported:

When a user modifies her menu and sets an item as invisible, a .desktop
file for this item is created. When she decides to remove the package
~/.local/share/applications/$appname.desktop remains untouched. If the
package will be installed again (say half a year later) it will remain
invisible, and most probably a user won't remember the fact of using
e.g. alacarte to hide its menu item.

I guess that we should try to remove all .desktop files when removing a
package, or at least check if it has been hidden or not (I know it
sounds trivial, but not necessarily is trivial).

I was also wondering if it has any impact on the menu behavior, i mean
how much time does it take to parse these unused files when opening a
menu.

I'm not really sure where this report should go, so again, if it's not
valid here, please reject it and suggest where it should be reported.

gconv-modules.cache is done now. locale-archive would need to be done by

[Bug 41302] Re: resolvconf update-libc error

2006-08-10 Thread ShyWolf9982
Perhaps invoking postfix to run earlier, just after configuring network
interfaces, would be a better solution?

I don't think so. Starting it before would mean:
a) starting postfix with a temporary invalid resolv.conf (might create problems
with any security check postfix run on startup)
b) changing resolv.conf while postfix is running

They are not huge problems, but I think it's better to set the resolving before
starting any smtpd, named or whatever.
Actually, the very first solution that came to my mind was to completely delete
the postfix reload thingie: but thinking at it a little more made me discover
that there were a case where it could be useful; when, for example, you have to
reaload your network service and/or change network card settings without having
to reboot or manually reload services.

With my patch we have a clean startup (not starting anything before the
basics are up and running) and we still cover the (rare) case in which
the network service needs to be reloaded on a hot machine, and we want
to keep the services running while this happens.

Best regards,

Simone

[Bug 17510] Re: smb io_slave authentication popup never works

2006-08-10 Thread Nicolas Dumoulin
I'm on kubuntu dapper, and I've related problem with smb authentification to
browse shared directory on a AD network.
All works fine with smbclient, but it's not possible with konqueror. I've tried
with an empty user account with several addresses :
 - smb://server/directory
 - smb://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/directory
 - smb://user:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/directory
But it doesn't work.

Maybe related ?

/var/log/syslog is not strictly neccessary but may help with some kind

diagnose the proble so I guess that's why it wasn't included in the

[Bug 55245] Re: Autofilter cut or delete removes additional rows

2006-08-10 Thread Phill
Ah. This issue is now fixed in the official builds of 2.0.3 (tested it
on Linux and Windows) but there is still a patch that exists for ooo-
build (linked to above) to fix something that now works. Can we now
have the patch removed as it looks like this is causing the problem.

This problem seems to fixed upstream some weeks ago - and the fix should
already be integrated in Cups1.2.2.
Do you still have the reported problem when printing to a 1.1.2x server over
IPP using the latest Cups packages?
If not I suggest to close this bug.

possibly earlier). There are two other related issues to this:
