[Bug 62557] Re: when partitioning disks manually, installer insists on reformatting to ext3
What I should have mentioned though is that this problem only occurred when I tried to install on a disk that already had partitions on it (including linux partitions of various kinds that I did not want to delete). I had no trouble installing a root partition and swap on an empty disk on another box recently using the same installer. [Bug 61979] Re: [Regression] 2.6.17-8-generic makes X crash if DRI is enabled in xorg.conf
Ok, it is not the vesafb. It seems strange to me that this happens since update to 2.6.17-8, because changes to agp/drm-portions of kernel-code are documented for 2.6.17-9. Even with broken kernel-drm-code, X normally should start up disabeling dri-part automatically. What completely seems strange to me is, that you say that a forced startx or sudo /etc/init.d/kdm restart works in some situations. How does the Xorg.0.log-file look like when you issue startx as mentioned earlier? The attached file from Comment #8 shows, that X obiously hangs while trying to allocate graphics-memory (at least the log ends there, no further comments in log after that, what seems strange to me, too). Does the whole system crash in this situation? What says the syslog file? [Bug 60160] Re: non-existing VIA 82xx Modem fails on startup
You may have a modem on your soundchip, but in general it is disabled by default in bios if you do not have a modem port, which sometimes can be optained from vendor as an assembly-option. Many sound controllers do have additional (soft)-modem functionality for certain configurations. In your setup, the modem part seems to be enabled by default. It should not matter, but if you do not like errors on bootup you can blacklist the module snd-via82xx-modem (or you should be able to disable the modem-part in bios, what is only recommended, if you know what you are doing). -- non-existing VIA 82xx Modem fails on startup https://launchpad.net/bugs/60160 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

So i checked the option that i want to handle myself. and now it hangs. i have tried it several times. Only if i format /dev/hda5 (ext3) it never would to resize the part. and the installatin went through. sorry for my poor english. i hope this could help you regards L. ** Affects: base-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- installer crashes if partition is not formatted https://launchpad.net/bugs/62735 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 62413] Re: Black screen with a ATI graphic card
I cannot see an error in your Xorg.0.log except error opening security policy file /usr/lib/xserver/SecurityPolicy, which is a remnant of http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=362246 seems similar to bug # 44370 , but that one has a fatal error. leaving as needsinfo [couldn't triage] -- Black screen with a ATI graphic card https://launchpad.net/bugs/62413 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This is not a bug. [Bug 62736] Volume Manager unresponsive in Gnome and command line
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager GUI Side: System Preferences Removable Drives and Media I receive the following error: The hald service is required but not currently running. Enable the service and rerun this application, or contact your system administrator. Note: You need Linux kernel 2.6 for volume management to work. I might be going about this the wrong way. I'm relatively new to Gnome. I have the latest kernel installed, as well as all the dependencies for hal, hal-device-manager, and gnome-volume-manager. I've scoured the forums and there seem to be quite a few people out there having problems with hal/g-v-m; none of them are exactly the same as mine, but it wouldn't suprise me if the same bug was responsible. One other note about those forum posts: they aren't getting a lot of action. Nobody seems to have any clue what's going on with hal and his package pals. ** Affects: gnome-volume-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Volume Manager unresponsive in Gnome and command line https://launchpad.net/bugs/62736 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 59228] Re: cpio build glitch breaks Unicode char handling
The patch does indeed build a proper cpio to use external setlocale(). Verified both on edgy and dapper. I am proceeding now with tests. Edgy: i386/ppc/sparc initramfs regeneration works fine (all machines booted with that) Edgy: i386 LSB tests in progress with the old cpio to make sure we hit the bug. Will follow soon with fixed cpio and a full rerun on powerpc. Dapper will need to wait once i am done with Edgy since i need to free the machines.
