[Bug 62557] Re: when partitioning disks manually, installer insists on reformatting to ext3

2006-09-28 Thread Robert Persson
What I should have mentioned though is that this problem only occurred
when I tried to install on a disk that already had partitions on it
(including linux partitions of various kinds that I did not want to
delete). I had no trouble installing a root partition and swap on an
empty disk on another box recently using the same installer. I was able
both to choose reiserfs as the file system and to specify the amount of
swap space I wanted.

[Bug 60851] Re: shares-admin crashes on launch

2006-09-28 Thread Robert Persson
For some reason the problem has gone away. I suspect that this may have
had something to do with me installing some package necessary for samba
to work, although I can't remember exactly what I did. What I mean is
that I think the problem may have something to do with shares-admin not
being able to grasp that samba hasn't been installed properly.

[Bug 61706] Re: HAL error after return out of hibernation

2006-09-28 Thread teardrop_onthefire
I'm afraid to say, trouble is back and worse. I can only see this problem as
the cause.
-Since hibenation worked I continued using it, untill the last time, the error
message returned.
Since all progrmams worked I ignored it.
I did a liitle work, even changing users showed no problems.
But then I logged back into my own account, I by just pointing the mouse at the
clock applet made it crash. While trying to send an error report X crashed, I
tried to reboot, but mouting of hda1 with the root dir failed, fsck automatic
failed. I ran fsck manualy with the option -v.
All bad inodes fixed, the system runs normal again (even a bit faster as
before).
I'm never hibernating the system again !

[Bug 62722] When surfing to a webpages - redirecting

2006-09-28 Thread teardrop_onthefire
Public bug reported:

When surfing to a certain webpage http://www.jolipa.be
Firefox closes itself, even when multiple tabs are open. I tried surfing to the
http://www.jolipa.be/index.html with the same results.
I surfed to the same webpage with de Windows version of firefox (on XP) and it
acted normal, showing me the index page, but I saw I was instantly redirected
from index.html to index3.html.
My guess is ubuntu firefox can't handle redirecting that good.
When knowing the origin of the problem I surfed (with ubutu firefox) to
index3.html, firefox did not close.

[Bug 62729] Installation Ver 6.06 LTS for PC crashed during assignment of partitions

2006-09-28 Thread Iovah
Public bug reported:

On my HP XH226 laptop, I booted the installation CD from ubuntu (obtained in
snail mail) and double clicked on the install desktop icon.
I deleted my old partitions, then created
(boot) 50MB as primary ext3
(swap) 1GB - primary linux-swap
(/) 10GB - primary ext
(/home) rest of 30GB - extended-ext3

At the step of assigning the boot, swap, /, and /home partitions, the
installation process crashed and provided the following popup
information:

[Bug 61979] Re: [Regression] 2.6.17-8-generic makes X crash if DRI is enabled in xorg.conf

2006-09-28 Thread Gert Kulyk
Ok, it is not the vesafb. It seems strange to me that this happens since
update to 2.6.17-8, because changes to agp/drm-portions of kernel-code
are documented for 2.6.17-9. Even with broken kernel-drm-code, X
normally should start up disabeling dri-part automatically.

What completely seems strange to me is, that you say that a forced
startx or sudo /etc/init.d/kdm restart works in some situations. How
does the Xorg.0.log-file look like when you issue startx as mentioned
earlier?

The attached file from Comment #8 shows, that X obiously hangs while
trying to allocate graphics-memory (at least the log ends there, no
further comments in log after that, what seems strange to me, too). Does
the whole system crash in this situation? What says the syslog file? Can
you still boot in a sane state when dri is disabled?

[Bug 62413] Re: Black screen with a ATI graphic card

2006-09-28 Thread Olivier Prieur
As i try to boot from the Edgy knot 3 live-cd :
- if i boot with the test or install Ubuntu : it boots but i've got a black
screen (I can hear the Gnome music)
- if i boot with the failed safe graphics option (i.e. xforcevesa option), it
is the same result : black screen but i hear the gnome music

so i switch to another console and run a dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg,
choosing the vesa driver and it works !!! But in 1024*768 and not in
1280*800 (15.4'' laptop screen)

BUT if choose the ati driver, it does not work at all !

I don't even have tested the fglrx driver ...

[Bug 60160] Re: non-existing VIA 82xx Modem fails on startup

2006-09-28 Thread Gert Kulyk
You may have a modem on your soundchip, but in general it is disabled by
default in bios if you do not have a modem port, which sometimes can be
optained from vendor as an assembly-option. Many sound controllers do
have additional (soft)-modem functionality for certain configurations.
In your setup, the modem part seems to be enabled by default. It should
not matter, but if you do not like errors on bootup you can blacklist
the module snd-via82xx-modem (or you should be able to disable the
modem-part in bios, what is only recommended, if you know what you are
doing).

[Bug 57502] Re: JMicron PATA/SATA Controller does not work

2006-09-28 Thread sgifan67
I tested the 27/09 daily build.

I have a P5B and the CD and Harddrive are both on the IDE channel drived
by the JMicron

The CD is now correctly detected, the harddrive also, the files are copied on
the harddrive,
all is OK until the installation finishes and the PC reboot.

but then GRUB starts and display an Error 21...

So i think grub has problem booting my HD connected to JMicron IDE
connection.

GRUB should be also on the list of trouble maker...

all i now is that with MANDRIVA 2007.0 RC2, the LILO bootloader boots with the
exact
same configuration.

[Bug 62735] installer crashes if partition is not formatted

2006-09-28 Thread Lukas Pataki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: base-installer

hello,

sorry but i dont know if i had choose the correct package.
I have ubuntu edgy Knot3 that i booted from the cd. and simply klicked on the
install icon on the desktop.

my partitions are as follow:
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 11945156231817 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hda21946498424410767+ 83 Linux
/dev/hda34985741619535040 83 Linux
/dev/hda47417973318611302+ 5 Extended
/dev/hda574178632 9767488+ 83 Linux
/dev/hda686339617 79119817 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hda796189733 931738+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris

note: hda5 was only flagged as PartID83 but new not formatted ( before
it was an NTFS part.)

As the installer came to the part to select the partition it would like to
?resize hda5? and appears an error message.
So i checked the option that i want to handle myself. and now it hangs. i have
tried it several times.
Only if i format /dev/hda5 (ext3) it never would to resize the part. and the
installatin went through.

sorry for my poor english.
i hope this could help you

regards
L.

[Bug 62736] Volume Manager unresponsive in Gnome and command line

2006-09-28 Thread greymaiden
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

GUI Side:

System Preferences Removable Drives and Media

I receive the following error: The hald service is required but not
currently running. Enable the service and rerun this application, or
contact your system administrator.

Note: You need Linux kernel 2.6 for volume management to work.

I might be going about this the wrong way. I'm relatively new to Gnome.
I have the latest kernel installed, as well as all the dependencies for
hal, hal-device-manager, and gnome-volume-manager. I've scoured the
forums and there seem to be quite a few people out there having problems
with hal/g-v-m; none of them are exactly the same as mine, but it
wouldn't suprise me if the same bug was responsible.

One other note about those forum posts: they aren't getting a lot of
action. Nobody seems to have any clue what's going on with hal and his
package pals.

[Bug 59228] Re: cpio build glitch breaks Unicode char handling

2006-09-28 Thread Fabio Massimo Di Nitto
The patch does indeed build a proper cpio to use external setlocale().
Verified both on edgy and dapper.

I am proceeding now with tests.

Edgy: i386/ppc/sparc initramfs regeneration works fine (all machines booted
with that)
Edgy: i386 LSB tests in progress with the old cpio to make sure we hit the bug.
Will follow soon with fixed cpio and a full rerun on powerpc.

Dapper will need to wait once i am done with Edgy since i need to free
the machines.
