[Bug 60000] Re: Deskbar applet crashed

2006-11-12 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
I can reproduce this bug on Edgy, too.

Deskbar crashes relatively often when entering the GNOME session. The
only visible feedback about the crash is the bug reporter telling me
that the deskbar applet has crashed. Other than that, the applet works
as expected even after a crash.

I've attached a compressed copy of the generated crash report.

occurs with 64-bit Edgy. 32-Bit Edgy works beautifully.

[Bug 71462] Hauppauge WinTv Go2

2006-11-12 Thread Thomas Schmid
Public bug reported:

This Card doesn't work, doesn't edgy support this card?

i recived an answer to my question in v4l mailinglist:

the last time I checked the card the
only way to get the tuner working was hardcoding 56 in the module source.

ok i asked where i have to do this hardcording staff, answer:

The thing I did was just
check out the hg sources of V4L and compiled them a few times. Gives you
the latest development and no kernel pain ;)

  core-tuner_type = 56; (line: 1156 of core)
  tun_setup.type = 56; (line: 132 of i2c)

The only 'issue' I had was the tuner starts with NTSC instead of PAL-BG.
But that is easy solvable, isn't it?

so this seems to be a kernel related thing and i wouldn't build a custom
kernel whit harcoding code stuff, cause ubuntu sad custom kernel would
break support / only for developers etc.

Is there an ubuntu way to fix this with a kernel update or whatever?

if some files or output is needed i could provide everything just tell
me what.

thanks

[Bug 71463] WLAN enabled led is not lit on Travelmate 3000

2006-11-12 Thread Tero Karvinen
Public bug reported:

WLAN enabled led on Travelmate 3000 is not lit.

The led is also a button to disable WLAN on hardware level. When WLAN is
hardware disabled, it does not work. Because nothing indicates that user
has accidentally disabled WLAN, reason for problem is not obvious. User
often wastes time trying to fix problem by modifying configuration.
Because user actually modifies a working configuration, the changes most
can break the good configuration.

The led is on Travelmate 3000 front, between speakers, near bluetooth
enabled led, left of mic and headphones jacks. I have seen the problem
on Breezy and Dapper. According to other reports, it also exists in
Fedora Core 6. My test device was Acer Travelmate 3000, 3004WTMi.

To bypass the bug (I have tested that it works on Dapper):
### /etc/modprobe.d/ipw2200
options ipw2200 led=1

Another bypass, not tested by me:

[Bug 70314] Monitor and Display module won't load correctly in Hungarian install

2006-11-12 Thread phontanka
Public bug reported:

I have had the following problem for a while, in Dapper and now in Edgy too: my
system is installed in Hungarian language, and when I go into System
settings/Monitor and Display, it gives me an error message, and the actual
content of it just doesn't show up. The error message says something like this:
- An error occurred during your last KDE upgrade leaving an orphaned control
module
- You have old third-party modules lying around.

I only realized that the problem somehow has to do with the Hungarian
setup when I used the Edgy RC version which was in English. There, the
display module came up without problems. Later I installed Edgy in
English, again, no problems.

I might not remember well but I think I didn't have this issue in
Hungarian Breezy.

[Bug 71468] Networking doesn't work anymore since installing ipmasq

2006-11-12 Thread fuoco
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ipmasq

I had to install dnsmasq and ipmasq to get networking in MOL (mac-on-linux)
according to the guide in the wiki. It actually works and I get network access
in MOL.
Later I found out that when I restart my system I don't have access to network.
I found many lines in dmesg such as:

[ 232.870897] IN= OUT=eth0 SRC=192.168.1.101 DST=212.116.161.38 LEN=60
TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=39841 DF PROTO=UDP SPT=32770 DPT=53 LEN=40

Eventually I discovered that running MOL fixes it and then I get network access
on my system too (outside of MOL). I then found out that running:
'/etc/init.d/ipmasq restart' will suffice to fix the problem.
Something needs to be done so it is run automatically or configured in a
different way that still lets it run without MOL.

you can only buy. pls see http://www.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/philosophy about
why distributing photoshop with Ubuntu isn't doable. Thanks for the
report though. please feel free to report bugs as you find them :)

ps. gimp and krita are good (and free) substitutes.

[Bug 71470] In KDE 3.5.5 + ATI Radeon 9600 focus switches rapidly between overlapping windows

2006-11-12 Thread Auke Latour
Public bug reported:

On my desktop PC, the focus switches rapidly between overlapping
windows. This seems to start when I move my mouse from one window to
another if those windows overlap. I can stop this behavior by maximizing
one of the windows or clicking on one of the title-bars.

Incorrect behavior occurs when focus policy is Focus follows mouse,
follows under mouse or focus strictly under mouse. Correct behaviour
when focus policy is Click to focus.

I have an ATI Radeon 9600, and i use the 'ati' X-driver. I also tried
the fglrx-driver, but then it occurs as well. On my notebook PC,
everything behaves correctly. (X-driver: i810)

This behaviour was introduced in Kubuntu Dapper since upgrading to KDE
3.5.5, and in Edgy it also occurs.

Working combinations:
Dapper + KDE 3.5.4 + ati
Dapper + KDE 3.5.x + i810
Edgy + KDE 3.5.x + i810

Non-working combinations:
Dapper + KDE 3.5.5 + ati
Edgy + KDE 3.5.5 + ati
Edgy + KDE 3.5.5 + fglrx

[Bug 69326] Re: Danish keyboard for Apple white USB keyboard AWOL in Edgy final.

2006-11-12 Thread globetrotterdk
The status on this should confirmed and not unconfirmed. This issue
has been mentioned in Ubuntu forums for a number of other european
languages, such as French. The difference being that there doesn't seem
to be anyone that is able or willing to make a custom keyboard mapping
for Danish, when they get fed up with the lack of support from the
Ubuntu team. I personally fall into the category of not knowing how to
do it, as I am a newbie.

Also using LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, the zoom options:

Presumably someone that knows how needs to thoroughly review openoffice
.org-l10n-en-gb (?)

[Bug 68971] Re: Math symbols not displayed, substituted with red TeX tags

2006-11-12 Thread lyx
This bug report helped me a lot, thank you. In Dapper there was indeed a
dependence of lyx-qt on latex-xft-fonts. In Edgy, however, latex-xft-
fonts is only in Recommended and thus not installed by default. But for
a proper use of LyX I would certainly say this IS a dependence.

[Bug 24167] Re: firefox invokes totem for .rm files

2006-11-12 Thread lyx
this helped a lot, thanks,

sudo rm /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/libtotem-complex-plugin.*

is actually enough to get it working. If you want it back you just
reinstall totem-mozilla.

I've just downloaded Kubuntu 6.06 and tried it, and it works as
expected. So there is a difference between the Gnome and KDE
implementations here.

This works for me (in the 2 tests I have made :-)).

[Bug 17744] Re: libnss-ldap and libpam-ldap should use the same configuration file

2006-11-12 Thread Carlos Eduardo Pedroza Santiviago
I guess openldap's clients use /etc/ldap/ldap.conf, and not
/etc/*ldap.conf:

$ strace ldapsearch -x 21 | grep ldap.conf
open(/etc/ldap/ldap.conf, O_RDONLY|O_LARGEFILE) = 3

/etc/ldap/ldap.conf and /etc/libnss-ldap.conf (or pam_ldap.conf) have
some slightly different entries, and should not be symlinked.

On the other way, i think there's no problem to use only one file for
NSS and PAM. In fact, i already use it, making a link from libnss-
ldap.conf to pam_ldap.conf.

To be more precise, we _SHOULD_ be using only one file for these two,
just make a head in these two files, and note this line:

This is the configuration file for the LDAP nameservice switch library
and the LDAP PAM module.
