[Bug 81240] Gnome File Selector makes some left shortcuts disappear

2007-01-24 Thread Pascal Potvin
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu Edgy, the gnome save as... file selector makes the home and
desktop icons disappear, on the left column.

Steps to reproduce :

1- Open a file with gedit that is located in a directory located in ~, such as
~/scripts/hello
2- File -- Save As
3- Browse for other folders

Tadam! There is no Home, nor Desktop. However, if you click over the
left column, you will see that there is still two empty boxes in the
gnome list.

If it doesn't work the first time, just cancel the save as dialog, and File
-- Save As again.
The bug can be reproduced in firefox, or other apps that use the gnome file
dialog.

[Bug 81047] Re: [Feisty]hplip toolbox: PyQt/Qt initialization error

2007-01-24 Thread Michael.Heimann
Works as designed ?!?

Have a look at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hplip/+bug/54667 and
you can see that the hplip Toolbox GUI _needs_ the python-gt3 package.

If you don't want that on CD, you have to remove the hplip gui also. Or
get a version of the hplip gui, that doesn't need the package and runs
without it. But is has to run. A program that's installed by default and
not working by default is crap by default ...

Any other solution will confuse people. (Not the expert users, but the
normal I want it to work out of the box users - and there's much more
of them out there using the OS, that we all think is worse, and we want
then to use Ubuntu )

Please think about that.

[Bug 29434] Re: hid2hci not run by default, so hci0 not availabale.

2007-01-24 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Yes, seems to be a dupe of bug #32415. apparently this is fixed starting
kernel 2.6.19, so your best best would be to install / upgrade to Ubuntu
7.04 when it comes out, wait for a maintenance release of Ubuntu 6.06
LTS, or compile/install a newer kernel. Current kernel for Edgy is
2.6.17.

Can you verify if this bug still happens with an Ubuntu 7.04 live CD ?

The icon is not shown by default; if you explicitely enable it for the

disable it. Giving the user directions to make the package even work in

What more information can I give ?

The typical network concerned by this report is as is :

if the firewall or internet part is failling (non answering), Firefox
have the described behaviour.

When switching workspaces in Xwindow, the Firefox window is not
refreshed, you see the content of the previous workspace in the window,
you can't click anywhere, clicking on the close button on the title bar
has no immediate action you have to wait for the force to quit
message.

I get a 'this problem report does not apply to a packaged program'

for these, its probably better to just not show the dialog.

[Bug 81207] Re: Fails to report bug

2007-01-24 Thread Martin Pitt
I have no idea off-hand what could have gone wrong, so we need to poke a
bit: Can you please do the following:

  $ killall update-notifier
  $ touch /var/crash/*network-admin*.crash
  $ /usr/share/apport/apport-gtk

This should re-trigger apport-gtk for the network-admin crash. Do you
get any output at the command line?

What is your default browser? You said that opening the browser works
for other bugs/crashes?

What is the output of

[Bug 22985] Re: [x700] fails to infer lvds for primary connector on acer ferrari 4005 | card detected, but driver fails to use right output port

2007-01-24 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Someone who is used to compiling stuff etc. should also just take the
latest GIT code and test that. Report if it fixes anything here, and
report if the situation remains the same with regards to how it works
with current Ubuntu development branch driver which hasn't been updated
since edgy. Please also attach both before Xorg.0.log and after
Xorg.0.log, unless you check that they are exactly same.

Then someone should definitely apply the patch in the upstream bug 5473
attached there already in November (but untestable by the developer
since he hasn't got a X700 laptop), and give feedback there if there's
any difference between current GIT version and the patched version.

While doing this, remember to use prefix=/usr so that you are actually
overwriting the feisty-provided drivers when installing etc. :)

[Bug 76623] Re: default screensaver cumbersome on old hardware

2007-01-24 Thread Oliver Grawert
the logo gets as big as the svg defines, it will only scale down, not

i'll look into letting it move slower, but i fear rotating is to cpu

have a look at /usr/lib/gnome-screensaver/gnome-screensaver/floaters

[Bug 46475] Re: PCI USB controller causes keyboard to randomly lock up

2007-01-24 Thread TrinitronX
My Desktop is a Dell Dimension XPS Generation 2. I had lost track of this post
here, and forgot to update it with new info about the problem.
I am now running Edgy, and still occasionally run into the keyboard locking up
every once in a while, however, it seems much less frequent lately (or maybe
that's just the luck of the draw and I'll end up getting it more later to make
up for it... :P )

Anyway, I have found that when the keyboard locks up, I am able to unplug the
PS/2 from the keyboard jack in the back, and then plug it back in to the Mouse
PS/2 jack (I use a USB mouse, so that jack is free).
After this, the keyboard functions fine!
I think it must be some sort of weird race condition where the PS/2 ports get
switched inputs for some reason randomly.
When I reboot and the ports are back to normal, I must unplug the keyboard and
put it back into the port meant for it, so that it will work again.

[Bug 81249] PostgreSQL doesn't allow local access

2007-01-24 Thread uqbar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postgresql-8.1

After the installation I cannot access locally to the server. For example
$ psql template1 postgres
will say I have no persmissions. I have created a user with createuser
program but also this one was not allowed to access the server.
I think the problem is in /etc/postgres/8.1/main/pg_hba.conf.
I fixed the problem by replacing in that file the line saying:

local all postgres ident sameuser

with one saying:

local all all trust

I'd default for a default configuration allowing at least local user
postgres.

** Affects: postgresql-8.1 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed

2007-01-24 Thread James Tait
Updating the BIOS from 3A19 to 3A23 did not solve this problem for me.

Since the card works under Dapper, would it be worth including dmesg
output from a Dapper boot to compare with the Edgy boot? Would it help
us to narrow down the source of the problem?

Hi,

sorry for the extreme delay. Finally there is a fixed package in the
dapper-proposed archive, which needs to be tested. It would be great, if
you could help testing and leave a comment on bug #72951 if the package
solves the problems (or also if it doesn't work for you).

Thanks,

[Bug 64290] Re: Special keys on Asus A8F problems

I can confirm this on the Samsung R55 which is also not producing any
keycodes for the following hot keys:

fn+F2 (Show battery)
fn+F10 (Etiquette mode)
fn+up (Brightness up)

These keys could not be recorded using all the methods provided at:

in edubuntu we configure a second static interface for the thin client

[Bug 81252] update manager 's lack of functionnality

2007-01-24 Thread Jerikojerk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

I were pleased if update manager:

1) tell me the source of one updated package when i select proposed updated
package to update:
there are repository i trust more than other (some time you may use one
repository just for one conveniant package and not for all the system, so by
providing the orign of the update you give me one good information (and
popularity) of the update). Display this information in a tab would be easy.

2) respect my choice: ignore update. When i deselect one update, those update
wouldn't be selected next time i run this software. When using live update on
ms windows once you reject one update, the ms update manager ignore the update.
It would be great to get this functionnality.
- it would be casual,
- when i do no more use one software, i don't need it to be updated
- (your args here)
- Didn't have apt-get or dselect one black-list?

3) information provided by update-manager are generaly of poor quality.
Some time there is just the id of the bug it closed, sometime it just
says update provide by X confimed by Y do not explain me why i
should update and expose me to troubles.

4) the you have a new update icon may behave according to point 2).

The window must be maximized to see the bug.

The menu vertical offset is such that, right-clicking, the last menu
command is triggered.
