[Bug 82451] Re: (Feisty) DBUS hangs after Gnome Login

2007-02-05 Thread Jamie McCracken
This should be fixed in latest svn - we now do the watching process in a
separate thread (this can take a long time if you have deep directory
trees which might be causing a dbus timeout and hence the crash in
deskbar)

I cant confirm yet as I dont run Feisty

[Bug 62300] Re: [Edgy] fonts are not displayed in GTK1 applications

2007-02-05 Thread Chris Rose
I don't see a bug here. If this can be fixed by undoing some changes to
a config file then we need to find out what package or software (if any)
is modifying the config file to a broken state in the first place. If
modifying paths in xorg.conf fixes it, then this bug needs to be refiled
against the relevant xorg package.

If someone can provide a set of steps for reproducing it that would be
great, I can't reproduce the bug here.

Martin Jürgens wrote:
I solved it deleting some configuration files, which I excepted not to
be existent on normal installations ( I used some gtk1 configuration
tools, among these a gtk1 font changing tool).

Can you provide some more details about which tools and what changes you
made?

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see a GTK bug here.

2007-02-05 Thread Albert Vilella
this happened to me as well. but, if i uninstall the nvidia-glx
package, then i do have 3D accel working with the i965 card. beryl
does not working with xinerama, though.

so it seems as if the nvidia-glx package interferes with the
acceleration for the i965 card.

I don't know if this bug fits in this thread or not. The problem I have

With the nvidia card I have all the 3d acceleration working but with the
945GM I don't. The problem is that I don't why this is not working.

My xorg.conf loads GLX and DRI, and the driver that I'm using is i810. I
have tried to load i915 and intel-agp manually and I get the same. The
most interesting error is found in /var/log/xorg.0.log

 Could anyone help me?

[Bug 83054] Re: Lack of Linux Culture Guide

2007-02-05 Thread wersdaluv
Thomas Hotz:
Thank you very much for subscribing to and replyinig to this bug! :)

I believe that, you will not regret paying attention to this bug. :)

I have edited the description of this bug to make it more detailed. :)

** Description changed:

  Context:
Windows Users have a certain culture. The culture is mainstream and they are
very used to it. They survive the Windows world because of having spent
resources using this popular OS.

The Linux Community has a culture too, and it is very different. The
Linux Culture is the reason why Linux Users survive the Linux world.

- Many Windows Users who try to use Linux are culture shocked. They are
- not used to deal with the Linux crowd, are not used to using the OS, are
- not used to searching the internet and using the forums as tools in
- order for them to use the OS which is new to them.
+
+ Problem:
+ Many Windows Users who try to use Linux are culture shocked. They are not
used to deal with the Linux crowd, are not used to using the OS, are not used
to searching the internet and using the forums as tools in order for them to
use the OS which is new to them.
+
+ Dealing with the Linux community is not much of a problem. A small
+ percent are composed of Elitists but majority are very very very helpful
+ . The problem could be with the cultural difference of Linux Experts and
+ New Users. As a New User, I have experienced communication problems.
+ Those problems are not due to the language but are due to the big gap of
+ Linux Literacy which makes it hard for the experts to understand what
+ makes it hard for New Users.
+
+ There is also a big difference with making the OS work between Linux and
Windows. As a Windows User, all I had to do was ask more experienced Users to
go and fix my computer. I also survived without searching the internet on how
to use Windows.
+ The Linux Culture is not inferior. New Users are just having a hard time to
adapt. Windows Power Users, after installing Linux, in many cases, are not
conditioned to think like they are there to learn so much about computers
again. As Windows Experts, many assume that they will not need to study the
basics whenever they do not realize that Linux is not Windows.
+ Making Linux work is a different story. You will have to do things you never
did when you were using Windows; you will have to know how to use forums well
(which is a problem for many because few know how to state their problems
well); you will have to know where to look for manuals; and most especially,
you will have to know how to use manuals (many people know that those manuals
exist but few realize that they should really spend time reading them if they
want to learn).

  Need:
The Linux Culture should be well-defined. Many new users are having a hard
time to adapt. If they can easily detect what their problems are, they could
learn more easily.
Once there is a good definition of the culture, it should be very accessible
to the new Linux User who just installed or is planning to install Linux.
+ Good manuals should also be accessible and abundant. After installing Ubuntu,
it would be very easy to find the manual, but the accessible manual, in my
opinion, is not comprehensive enough for the Average Windows User to be
motivated to read.

[Bug 45620] Re: mount_applet2 does not show DVD drive when a data DVD is inserted

2007-02-05 Thread Sebastian Brocks
Why did you change this bug to say that it affects gnome-applets?
As far as I can tell, it's a nautilus problem, because the DVD drive also does
not appear in nautilus' places bar/menu.

[Bug 83211] Re: [apport] ubiquity crashed with PartmanOptionError in must_find_one_script()

2007-02-05 Thread Colin Watson
ubiquity (1.3.18) feisty; urgency=low

  * New partitioner:
- Disable the mountpoint combo box when creating or editing a partition
if the method is changed to something other than a filesystem.
- Handle partman/exception_handler and partman/exception_handler_note
  (LP: #82848).
- Note that unadorned sizes are assumed to be in megabytes (LP: #82848).
- Display current partition sizes in megabytes (part of LP: #83166).
- Implement resizing. Ask for the size using a spinbutton (in megabytes)
rather than a text entry field.
- Offer 'fat16' and 'fat32' filesystem types for new partitions rather
than the non-existent 'fat' (LP: #83211).
- Fix crash when backing up to automatic partitioning page (LP: #83230).
  * doc/README: Add comment about language pack installation following a
query from Telmo Baía.

[Bug 83420] Feisty herd 3 doesn't boot from Live CD

2007-02-05 Thread Steve. K
Public bug reported:

Feisty herd 3 (ubuntu) doesn't load on LiveCD. It just hangs on the boot
splash screen.

Am running a Toshiba Equium L20-197 and using the i386 ISO image.

Tried this by burning the image to a CD and also DVD - the DVD attempt
to load gives some information (since no boot splash image). It gets to
'udevet-event [4780] Run Programme /sbin/modprobe abnormal exit' - the
DVD then stops - then about 20-30 secs later flicks back into life - a
couple of lines of text appear, then it hangs completely with 'etho0
link is not ready'.

Cheers,

[Bug 79436] Re: Filename not quoted when calling cdrecord

2007-02-05 Thread Facundo Batista
Ah, ok! My ignorance, :p.

Another question, just to know what to do next.

How can I know If Serpentine is calling nautilus-cd-burner ok? Better,
how can I *prove*, that nautilus-cd-burner being called ok, is not
having a good behaviour?

(all this is just to open a better bug ticket in the library)

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

[Bug 79160] Re: Ubuntu Dapper screen saver crashes X server

2007-02-05 Thread Christian
I was running Ubuntu 6.06LTS with the nvidia driver
from their package NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9629-pkg1.run.
Xorg 7.0.0 crashed whenever OpenGL was used (e.g. glxgears, glxinfo).
Replacing the driver nvidia with nv in /etc/xorg.conf
fixed the crashes (but of course removed hardware accelerated OpenGL). I'll try
a newer driver when there's time ... hope my information helped a little.
The Graphics card is a GeForce 7600GS.

Cheers

[Bug 83423] NFSv4/krb5 - auxiliary groups are ignored

2007-02-05 Thread Bohuslav Blin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nfs-common

I use Dapper on server and i want to use NFSv4/krb5. I found that server
ignore auxiliary groups. Only UID and primary GID. The same bug is
reported here: http://linux-nfs.org/pipermail/nfsv4/2006-May/004256.html

Probably problem is in svcgssd_proc.c:
--
/*XXX: want add_supplementary_groups(secname, sname, cred)? */
cred-cr_ngroups = 0;
---

I think that new version (Edgy Eft) has resolved this bug.

I also found some patches, maybe not for this version:
http://linux-nfs.org/pipermail/nfsv4/2005-August/002412.html

Is it posible to use nfs-common from EdgyEft in Dapper or is here any
other way to solve this bug in Dapper?

[Bug 83428] VLC crashes when playing full HD over RTP

2007-02-05 Thread Nick
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vlc

I stream a full HD video sequence
(http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/blooddiamond/) over RTP using
following command:

vlc -vvv --color blood_diamond.hdmov --sout
'#duplicate{dst=std{access=rtp,mux=ts, url=192.168.13.51:5000}}' --loop

On the client side, I open a network stream over port 5000.

After a while of not fluent playing, the crash occurs.

[Bug 83429] [apport] compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV

2007-02-05 Thread Ralf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Here is what I did:

- installed Ubuntu 7.04 from daily-live cd
- made an update (only a few packages)
- installed the nvidia-driver
- rebootet the system
- made a dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and choose the nvidia-driver
- restarted xserver
- installed compiz
- activated compiz

What I noticed is, there are no window-borders. So I'm not able to move a
window (for example).
And then the crash happened, before a had any chance to do some other testings.

Regards,

Ralf

[Bug 82624] Re: console is not setup as said in /etc/default/console-setup

2007-02-05 Thread kaouete
Hi,

at boot my console is not setup, the font is not the one in /etc/default
/console-setup nor the size.

But when i start without usplash it works

It is like if the /etc/init.d/console-setup was not called when usplash
is on.

[Bug 82143] Re: Add main-accepted Voikko packages to a seed, language-support-fi should depend on Voikko spellchecking libraries in 7.04

2007-02-05 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Meanwhile... we've discussed on the Voikko mailing list (http
://hunspell-fi.org/mailman/listinfo/devel_hunspell-fi.org) about the
other language-support-fi dependencies as well.

wfinnish, aspell-fi and myspell-fi should be removed from the
dependencies.

tmispell-voikko replaces wfinnish completely. aspell-fi has no direct
replacement, though some programs are starting to support and prefer
libenchant and its Voikko plugin (like Abiword) instead. aspell-fi is
however currently responsible of underlining every other word in Gaim,
because of the poor quality of spell-checking. myspell-fi interferes
with openoffice.org-voikko, requiring often manual settings in OOo to
use the better quality spell-checking. Then again it removes spell-
checking from Thunderbird, but again the quality of myspell-fi
spellchecking is so low that people should probably seek to install it
themselves if they really know that they want it. Otherwise it is
probably more of a disturbance.

Re: [Bug 35741] Re: Wrong module directory used when loading i915_dri.so ?

2007-02-05 Thread Michael Ambrus

so it seems as if the nvidia-glx package interferes with the
 acceleration for the i965 card.

Yes, this was my conclusion also.

As I recall it (i could remember it wrong so better double check this)
the nvidia variant of libGL.so is not compatible with DRI. I.e. other
cards should have the same problem with DRI and not only i965.

I.e. in case one has any other card than nividia, remove all nvidia
related packages, restart X and DRI should work.

/Michael

[Bug 67133] Re: Strange upgrade behaviour from Dapper to Edgy

2007-02-05 Thread Timo Aaltonen
this from a duplicate:

Other packages are able to show their diff in update-manager correctly
without using the terminal. This should be changed in nfs-kernel-server
as well.

so it might be nfs-utils which needs fixing, after all.
