[Bug 90319] cursor redraw lingers
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: epiphany-browser With epiphany 2.17.92 on AMD64 the cursor re-drawing is faulty. When typing some text and then going back on the line with Left the cursor pipe symbol isn't properly removed. In ascii art this yields: a|b|B|B|C|C which is quite annoying. This is only in webforms - so it may wel be a gecko problem. [Bug 79578] Re: Regression: grub - Error 18 sometimes since edgy
Hmm. Sometimes old BIOSes can't boot files past the 1023rd cylinder. What can happen is that initially after the install, all the data needed by grub to boot falls below that limit. However it could be that after installing a new kernel/upgrading your distro has caused some of the needed data to be beyond cylinder 1023 and thus a problem occurs. I am working on the idea that BIOSes after a certain date won't manifest this problem... -- Regression: grub - Error 18 sometimes since edgy https://launchpad.net/bugs/79578 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 51879] Re: default config doesn't rotate syslog al
I think in the default configuration sysklogd will rotate the mentioned logfiles itself, not logrotate. This is because logrotate is no longer part of the default installation. The sysklogd package comes with the cron jobs /etc/cron.daily/sysklogd and /etc/cron.weekly/sysklogd. These rotate syslog daily and /var/log/mail.warn /var/log/uucp.log /var/log/user.log /var/log/daemon.log /var/log/messages /var/log/debug /var/log/auth.log /var/log/mail.err /var/log/mail.log /var/log/kern.log /var/log/lpr.log /var/log/mail.info weekly. [Bug 90328] file-roller leaves gigantic hidden files on disk when it fails due to lack of disk space
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: file-roller == Steps to reproduce == 1. Open File Roller 2. Create a new .tar.gz file on an almost-full disk (If you have a USB flash disk that is almost full, that will work fine.) 3. Add so many files to it that it will take up all free space on your disk == What happens == 1. You get an error message[1] 2. A huge partially-complete .tar.gz file is left on your disk (in my case, I had a few 100MB+ files lying around in various places on my hard drive, as it is often nearly-full yet I often take new backups of my USB drive.) 3. **Big problem**: this .tar.gz file is a hidden dotfile == What should have happened == File Roller should never leave dotfiles on disk after you close it, no matter what errors it encountered. == Proposed solution == File Roller should never name its temporary files starting with a period. Instead, it should name them something like temporary_archive_6313. Yes, it looks somewhat ugly when these files are visible to users, and yes, there are other possible solutions. But all other solutions are either slower or can leave dotfiles around in pathological cases. This is the only way to prevent File Roller from leaving orphaned dotfiles around. == Notes == I am using file-roller 2.16.1 which came with Edgy. [1] Here is the error text I got: tar: /home/j/.fr.6313.0.jason_backup.tar: Cannot write: No space left on device tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now gzip: /home/j/.fr.6313.0.jason_backup.tar.gz: Cannot write: No space left on device mv: cannot stat home/j/.fr.6313.0.jason_backup.tar.gz:: Aucun fichier ou repertoire de ce type (note to readers: this means No such file or directory) ** Affects: fileroller (upstream) Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: file-roller (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Assignee: Ubuntu Desktop Bugs Status: Confirmed -- file-roller leaves gigantic hidden files on disk when it fails due to lack of disk space https://launchpad.net/bugs/90328 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 90325] Re: Seg fault in gtk-2.0/sexy.so when using gimmie, apport doesn't catch crash
Hi, I did the whole procedure again. This time I could switch from gnome-terminal to geany once using gimmie, the next time it crashed. After I did `(gdb) thread apply all bt full' and arrived at another (gdb) prompt, gimmie hadn't exited yet (had to confirm exit from gdb) I cut away all the no debug symbols and enter to continue from the gdb output. Note: I downloaded lastest gimmie release from its website, installed it with my stackless python (no connection with the stock python at all) and I didn't have to install sexy-python for it to run. That gimmie does crash, but all within python code. I just installed more python binding modules when gimmie imports smt not there yet. ** Attachment added: gdb output after (gdb) thread apply all bt full http://librarian.launchpad.net/6651983/gimmie2.txt -- Seg fault in gtk-2.0/sexy.so when using gimmie, apport doesn't catch crash https://launchpad.net/bugs/90325 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 54115] Re: No DNS at computer start
I found what seems to be a bug in resolvconf. to specify static dns servers for a netiface, you can add the following to /etc/network/interfaces: iface eth1 inet static name faraway address 200.69.231.1 netmask 255.255.255.252 broadcast 200.69.231.3 gateway 200.69.231.2 dns-nameserver 200.69.193.111 200.69.193.112 # this one resolvconf is executed via /etc/network/if-up.d/000resolvconf when the netiface is brought up, with some environment variables set up. within those envvars there is IF_DNS_NAMESERVER, which has the value of the dns-nameserver field there above. the problem is that /etc/network/if- up.d/000resolvconf is checking for IF_DNS_NAMESERVERS, with a trailing S, so it thinks there are no nameservers and acts accordingly. I'm not sure if the bug is in resolvconf or in ifupdown, though. -- No DNS at computer start https://launchpad.net/bugs/54115 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 90339] [edgy] Can't read signed + encrypted mail when sig-key not available
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I just got a mail that was encrypted (for me) and signed (from the other person). Because I did not yet have his key, Evolution showed a red error message about not being able to find the public key, together with the encrypted mail. Saving the mail and decrypting on the command line (gpg -d mail) was possible, though GPG also complained about not being able to verify the signature. Evolution should at least decrypt the message, showing only errors about the signature verification. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open Evolution 2. Receive GPG-encrypted -signed mail 3. Open the mail 4. Enter GPG password Actual results: I see a red error message about the public key for the signature not being found + the encrypted mail text.
