[Bug 94119] Re: CDROM drive no longer working, unable to mount.

2007-04-29 Thread rcaelius
I am experiencing a similar problem on PS3 hardware, in that the drive read
DVD / CDROM / BLU-RAY disks anymore. The read errors that occur cause the CDROM
to go offline.
CDROM reported as /dev/sr0 in dmesg under edgy and still reports as /dev/sr0
under feisty 7.04. Haven't changed fstab after upgrade.

[Bug 106869] Re: e1000 locks up under load in Feisty.

2007-04-29 Thread Dylan
I've tried a few things. I did a blacklist ipv6, which seems to make it
harder to trigger the condition with MythTV traffic (I was able to
successfully watch a number of shows without the client locking up), but
this didn't stop the case where any NFS transfers to my Slackware server
locked up the client.

On a lark, I swapped the network card from the new e1000 to an old e100 card I
had in a drawer. It locks up identically under NFS load:
[ 341.152000] NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out
[ 341.172000] e100: eth0: e100_watchdog: link up, 100Mbps, full-duplex
[ 346.168000] NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out
[ 346.188000] e100: eth0: e100_watchdog: link up, 100Mbps, full-duplex

I suspect a deeper bug in the kernel, perhaps relating to interrupts, or the
networking parts common to both code paths (where the skbs are transmitted).

[Bug 110927] Boot progress bar not shown on Fiesty Kubuntu laptop

2007-04-29 Thread Johnre
Public bug reported:

The fix was:
add to /boot/grub/menu.lst
  video=vesafb vga=773

This is a sony vaio laptop, that used to display boot progress in gui mode with
Dapper or Edgy.

This seems to be a bug, should be fixed.

Otherwise, upon boot, the system gives the (GRUB?) message like loading
system, in text mode,
then the screen goes blank for about 30 seconds,
then the KDE startup process icons appear.

The problem is the blank screen for 30 seconds.

---
Perhaps safest for use on all laptops would be vga=769
which is 640x480 at 8 bit.

[Bug 110930] Format DVD+RW doesn't use dvd+rw-format correctly

2007-04-29 Thread Jem
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnomebaker

In gnomebaker 0.6.0, attempting to perform the operation Tools | Format
DVD+RW with options Eject and Force (also attempted without Force).
Operation completes in less than 1 second, specifies that the operation
was a success and results in the DVD not being formatted.

The console (show output) reports the following output from dvd+rw-
format

* BD/DVD±RW/-RAM format utility by [EMAIL PROTECTED], version 7.0.
* 4.7GB DVD+RW media detected.
- unimplemented command-line option for this media.
- you have the option to re-run dvd+rw-format with:
-lead-out to elicit lead-out relocation for better
 DVD-ROM compatibility, data is not affected;
-force to enforce new format (not recommended)
 and wipe the data.

[Bug 32357] Re: Installer doesn't recognise SATA disks as primary.

2007-04-29 Thread Jojo
I've just been hit by the same bug. In my desktop comuter with nForce2
I've got two drives. One SATA and one PATA. During Ubuntu install (Edgy)
I choose to install system and all stuff on sda and use hda only as
media storage (music, movies, etc.). Yesterday to my PATA drive failed
and to my astonishment I now cannot boot because there is no grub on
SATA. My system is now 704 distr upgraded from 610.

[Bug 110915] Re: Firefox crah when restarting Gnome

2007-04-29 Thread Hilario J. Montoliu \(hjmf\)
Thank you Caic for submitting this report.

Could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions on
[1], or upload the crash report that probably was generated during the crash
and that should be located at /var/crash/ to [2].

Please indicate which extensions/plugins do you have enabled; and if this crash
is reproducible describe the steps that lead to it (it is very important for us
to have a test case for each crash).

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 48792] Re: freezes pc when launched

2007-04-29 Thread Cesar Eduardo Barros
Another datapoint:

When upgrading from edgy to feisty, the upgrade manager (running on KDE,
if it makes any difference) somehow decided it would be a good idea to
install powernowd. In the middle of the configure phase, it was started,
and a few seconds later the computer crashed (no video output; the
monitor entered its powersaving mode). This had already happened before,
when I experimented with powernowd (which I uninstalled after I found
out it made the computer crash). Only that this time it left the
computer unbootable; for some reason, update-initramfs runs several
times during the upgrade (meaning the .bak file is useless), and
something (I'm guessing mdadm) got confused (probably because it hadn't
been configured yet before the initrd was generated) and booting stopped
in the waiting for root device line. Luckly, I could still boot with
the older 2.6.17-10 kernel, which was untouched at that point (mdadm
later regenerated every initrd it could find), and finished configuring
everything (and, of course, removed powernowd).

The motherboard is an Asus M2V, and the CPU is an AMD Athlon(tm) 64
Processor 3200+

Thanks for this post. I was updating to feisty and k3d could be neither
installed nor removed. I did alter pycentral and that allowed
installation of k3d.

[Bug 9068] Re: Serial mice are not autodetected

2007-04-29 Thread piotrko
Serial mouse can work in xubuntu 7.04 !!! I also couldn't make it work
for years :] on my old PC, but this time I did it :)

I'm just showing what helped for me. Read on and get your own
conclusions.

I had a serial mouse, inserted directly to a COM. The problem was not
only about X. cat /dev/ttyS0 didn't work.

I can't recall exact steps, but the command inputattach was essential. I
did it in somehow ugly way, something like this... (case study):

1. Install xubuntu, logged into X (normally) - mouse doesn't work yet.
2. Switched to virtual console and log as root (i. e. Ctrl-Alt-F1).
Note: There is no root account explicitly given to you in (x)ubuntu. I made it
this (ugly?) way by changing root's password using sudo:
2.1. Log in as the ordinary user (suppose his login is johnny)
2.2. Change root's password:
 Type: sudo passwd
(type johnnyspasswd - sudo needs this)
 (set new rootpasswd)
 (confirm rootpasswd)
2.3 Log in as root with the new rootpasswd
3. Kill gdm.
To see gdm's PID, you can type: pstree -p |grep gdm. (the leftmost gdm! You'll
see two on the output)
4. Typing:
cat /dev/ttyS0
and moving mouse makes no output. (press Ctrl-C after testing)
(also type cat /dev/ttyS1 if you're not sure which COM you are using)
5. Type:
inputattach -bare /dev/ttyS0
(you may need to change -bare to other protocol; inputattach --help gives a
list of them)
This command also locks screen (should it?), so make a few movements with the
mouse and press Ctrl-C.
6. Type again:
cat /dev/ttyS0.
If you see strange characters-junk on the screen while moving your mouse,
you're a happy person!
Press Ctrl-C, type: reset (to clear the screen, if you can't see normal
letters) and... what's left to do is to configure mouse in X.

Sorry for such a bloated post, but I prefered to write too much than to
less.

Hope it helps someone. Cheers.

[Bug 110933] Socket credentials not supported on this OS when trying to connect to gnome-keyring-daemon

2007-04-29 Thread Cedric Schieli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-keyring

When tying to connect to gutsy's gnome-keyring-daemon (0.8.1-2), either
from gnome-keyring-manager or from nm-applet, I get a Socket
credentials not supported on this OS error.

I've tracked it down to a miscompiling caused by the current buggy
linux-libc-dev (2.6.22-1.3) :
the file /usr/include/asm-i386/socket.h is not included from
/usr/include/asm/socket.h, so the SO_PEERCRED constant is not defined.

The fix should be a rebuild when a fixed linux-libc-dev will be
available.

[Bug 77589] Re: debootstrap can't chroot

After a few moments I got a Debian sid debootstrap successfully

The workaround for me was to create a symlink of

so that the chroot's mount of /proc will work.

[Bug 110938] KDE Menu Editor inconsistent with K Menu items

2007-04-29 Thread Johnre
Public bug reported:

Couln't figure out the correct distro/package to mark this as.

The K-start menu items don't match what is shown in the KDE Menu Editor.
Kubuntu Fiesty.

The menu editor is showing items (in, ex, the Ksystem section)
alphabetical by Description,
while KSystem shows item alphabetical by Name.

This is very inconsistent.

How can these be made consistent?

I'm trying to group these into subgroups by functionality, separated by
the line separator. That is seeming to be impossible.

That kind of grouping worked properly in Kubuntu Edgy Eft, the last
release.

Please let me know any suggestions.

Thanks! :)

[Bug 83147] Re: [nvidia-glx-legacy] [apport] glxinfo crashed with SIGSEGV

2007-04-29 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Rodrigo:
Since you have a Geforce 4 card you shouldn't actually be using the legacy
drivers - nvidia-glx is a far better fit for you. If you decided to try legacy
because you are having trouble with nvidia-glx I would suggest filing another
bug or looking at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia .

[Bug 110939] [regression] Feisty has no separate PCM slider in mixer on an Audigy 2 Platinum PCI

2007-04-29 Thread David Warde-Farley
Public bug reported:

Basically, in Volume Control for my Audigy 2 Platinum [SB0240P] I've
lost the ability (since the upgrade from Edgy) to control PCM level
separate from the Master level. I don't see a PCM slider, if I go to
Edit-Preferences I see PCM and it's already selected, but deselecting
it and reselecting seems to deselect/reselect the Master as well (though
the Master slider doesn't disappear and reappear). PCM Center, PCM
Front, PCM LFE and PCM Surround all appear if I enable them, but these
have never done anything for me.

I can't find PCM in the alsamixer app. I first noticed this when using
mplayer, the volume control there (which usually controls PCM) is
completely broken, hitting either up or down volume basically mutes it,
and I get this debug message:

alsa-control: error setting left channel, Invalid argument
[Mixer] No hardware mixing, inserting volume filter.

I'm not sure what will be of use in diagnosing this so I'm attaching
dmesg and also /var/lib/alsa/asound.state . Let me know if there's
anything else I can provide.

[Bug 110942] File-Roller doesn't display names in dvd-video-isos correctly

2007-04-29 Thread ccc1
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

Steps to reproduce:

1) Rip a Video-Dvd to .iso with k3b.
2) display the content of the iso with file-roller

Every filename in the video_ts folder has the string ';1' appended at
the end.

This occurs also if one use another program to rip the dvd and it doesn't
matter if the dvd is encrypted or not. In winxp the filenames are displayed
correctly. It only happens with dvd-video-isos.
I'm using feisty.

[Bug 110667] Re: Enable Desktop Effects provides no feedback when it fails to enable Compiz

2007-04-29 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Setting back to unconfirmed. Please note that this bug isn't about
compiz failing to load but is instead about desktop-effects not
outputting anything (e.g. a dialog saying Couldn't enable desktop
effects).

[Bug 109529] Re: can suspend/resume once, suspending a second time hangs

2007-04-29 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
insyzygy:
Can you suspend multiple times with the nv open source driver too? If so could
you attach the following files when using nvidia-glx:
/var/log/Xorg.0.log
/etc/X11/xorg.conf
dmesg.txt produced by
dmesg dmesg.txt

Could you add the output produced by the following commands to this bug:
dpkg -l nvidia-\* | grep ii
lspci | grep -i nv
?
