[Bug 94119] Re: CDROM drive no longer working, unable to mount.
I am experiencing a similar problem on PS3 hardware, in that the drive read DVD / CDROM / BLU-RAY disks anymore. The read errors that occur cause the CDROM to go offline. CDROM reported as /dev/sr0 in dmesg under edgy and still reports as /dev/sr0 under feisty 7.04. [Bug 106869] Re: e1000 locks up under load in Feisty.
I've tried a few things. I did a blacklist ipv6, which seems to make it harder to trigger the condition with MythTV traffic (I was able to successfully watch a number of shows without the client locking up), but this didn't stop the case where any NFS transfers to my Slackware server locked up the client. On a lark, I swapped the network card from the new e1000 to an old e100 card I had in a drawer. It locks up identically under NFS load: [ 341.152000] NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out [ 341.172000] e100: eth0: e100_watchdog: link up, 100Mbps, full-duplex [ 346.168000] NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out [ 346.188000] e100: eth0: e100_watchdog: link up, 100Mbps, full-duplex I suspect a deeper bug in the kernel, perhaps relating to interrupts, or the networking parts common to both code paths (where the skbs are transmitted). -- e1000 locks up under load in Feisty. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106869 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 110816] Report Needed
1-the crash is reproducible to infinitesimal. 2- I did run firefox through dbg and attached the result. 3- I also attached pluginreg.dat file that installed on firefox. 4- it seems gmail + some plugin swf flash are to do with crash. [Bug 48792] Re: freezes pc when launched
Another datapoint: When upgrading from edgy to feisty, the upgrade manager (running on KDE, if it makes any difference) somehow decided it would be a good idea to install powernowd. In the middle of the configure phase, it was started, and a few seconds later the computer crashed (no video output; the monitor entered its powersaving mode). This had already happened before, when I experimented with powernowd (which I uninstalled after I found out it made the computer crash). Only that this time it left the computer unbootable; for some reason, update-initramfs runs several times during the upgrade (meaning the .bak file is useless), and something (I'm guessing mdadm) got confused (probably because it hadn't been configured yet before the initrd was generated) and booting stopped in the waiting for root device line. Luckly, I could still boot with the older 2.6.17-10 kernel, which was untouched at that point (mdadm later regenerated every initrd it could find), and finished configuring everything (and, of course, removed powernowd). [Bug 9068] Re: Serial mice are not autodetected
Serial mouse can work in xubuntu 7.04 !!! I also couldn't make it work for years :] on my old PC, but this time I did it :) I'm just showing what helped for me. Read on and get your own conclusions. I had a serial mouse, inserted directly to a COM. The problem was not only about X. cat /dev/ttyS0 didn't work. I can't recall exact steps, but the command inputattach was essential. I did it in somehow ugly way, something like this... (case study): 1. Install xubuntu, logged into X (normally) - mouse doesn't work yet. 2. Switched to virtual console and log as root (i. e. Ctrl-Alt-F1). Note: There is no root account explicitly given to you in (x)ubuntu. I made it this (ugly?) way by changing root's password using sudo: 2.1. Log in as the ordinary user (suppose his login is johnny) 2.2. Change root's password: Type: sudo passwd (type johnnyspasswd - sudo needs this) (set new rootpasswd) (confirm rootpasswd) 2.3 Log in as root with the new rootpasswd 3. Kill gdm. To see gdm's PID, you can type: pstree -p |grep gdm. (the leftmost gdm! You'll see two on the output) 4. Typing: cat /dev/ttyS0 and moving mouse makes no output. (press Ctrl-C after testing) (also type cat /dev/ttyS1 if you're not sure which COM you are using) 5. Type: inputattach -bare /dev/ttyS0 (you may need to change -bare to other protocol; inputattach --help gives a list of them) This command also locks screen (should it?), so make a few movements with the mouse and press Ctrl-C. 6. Type again: cat /dev/ttyS0. If you see strange characters-junk on the screen while moving your mouse, you're a happy person! Press Ctrl-C, type: reset (to clear the screen, if you can't see normal letters) and... what's left to do is to configure mouse in X. Sorry for such a bloated post, but I prefered to write too much than to less. Hope it helps someone. [Bug 110933] Socket credentials not supported on this OS when trying to connect to gnome-keyring-daemon
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-keyring When tying to connect to gutsy's gnome-keyring-daemon (0.8.1-2), either from gnome-keyring-manager or from nm-applet, I get a Socket credentials not supported on this OS error. I've tracked it down to a miscompiling caused by the current buggy linux-libc-dev (2.6.22-1.3) : the file /usr/include/asm-i386/socket.h is not included from /usr/include/asm/socket.h, so the SO_PEERCRED constant is not defined. [Bug 110938] KDE Menu Editor inconsistent with K Menu items
Public bug reported: Couln't figure out the correct distro/package to mark this as. The K-start menu items don't match what is shown in the KDE Menu Editor. Kubuntu Fiesty. The menu editor is showing items (in, ex, the Ksystem section) alphabetical by Description, while KSystem shows item alphabetical by Name. This is very inconsistent. How can these be made consistent? I'm trying to group these into subgroups by functionality, separated by the line separator. That is seeming to be impossible. [Bug 110939] [regression] Feisty has no separate PCM slider in mixer on an Audigy 2 Platinum PCI
Public bug reported: Basically, in Volume Control for my Audigy 2 Platinum [SB0240P] I've lost the ability (since the upgrade from Edgy) to control PCM level separate from the Master level. I don't see a PCM slider, if I go to Edit-Preferences I see PCM and it's already selected, but deselecting it and reselecting seems to deselect/reselect the Master as well (though the Master slider doesn't disappear and reappear). PCM Center, PCM Front, PCM LFE and PCM Surround all appear if I enable them, but these have never done anything for me. I can't find PCM in the alsamixer app. I first noticed this when using mplayer, the volume control there (which usually controls PCM) is completely broken, hitting either up or down volume basically mutes it, and I get this debug message: alsa-control: error setting left channel, Invalid argument [Mixer] No hardware mixing, inserting volume filter. I'm not sure what will be of use in diagnosing this so I'm attaching dmesg and also /var/lib/alsa/asound.state . RJ, yoasif: Thanks for plugging away on this issue. You may have discovered a workaround for a few other NVRM: Xid sufferers. It might not be the cause in every case but it's something to bear in mind.
