[Bug 111951] Right click tomboy applet option, Open Plugins Folder shouldn't be there

2007-05-03 Thread Joseph Garvin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tomboy

1. Start tomboy
2. Right click its icon in the system tray
3. Observe the Open Plugins Folder option

You can get the same option by right clicking the system tray icon,
selecting preferences, then plugins, then clicking open plugins folder.
That seems like an appropriate place for the option. But I don't see why
it should be in the menu when right clicking the system tray. It's far
from a common action and mostly only of interest to power users, and
even to them only rarely. It also seems inconsistent with other apps,
like Pidgin, which usually avoid putting preferences tabs suboptions in
the list. I don't know whether it violates the HIG, but it certainly
looks out of place.

[Bug 34376] Re: debmirror try to mirror section main/debian-installer on all dists

2007-05-03 Thread Net Venture
I'll try to describe this to be more easy.

I have a netboot setup in my LAN so that I can boot and install ubuntu
from the a local server. To netboot and install, the main/debian-
installer section needs to be available in my local mirror. I use
preseeding to configure mirror information and packages so that
souces.list points to my local server instead of archive.ubuntu.com
(and installation requires almost no manual intervention). To that
extent, my debmirror configuration automatically fetches the following:

DIST=feisty
SECTIONS=main,restricted,universe,multiverse,main/debian-installer

I run the debmirror script every night in a cronjob so that it stays
updated with http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com. That means that updates that
come to feisty repo will automatically hit my local mirror. This
configuration allows me to install feisty with only the feisty repo
available (updates, backports and security updates not available in
local mirror and not available to clients).

But this means that the client has to use the internet and connect to
archive.ubuntu.com to download other repos (fesity-updates, feisty-
backports, feisty-security). I trust my LAN server and have no fear of
it getting compromised, so I would like to host all the repos (including
feisty-security) locally.

If I change the debmirror configuration to:

DIST=feisty,feisty-updates,feisty-backports,feisty-security
SECTIONS=main,restricted,universe,multiverse,main/debian-installer

It will try to download all updates but will fail when trying to get
main/debian-installer from feisty-security (or backports, updates).
Removing main/debian-installer will eliminate the problem, and all the
repos will be downloaded. But I won't be able to netboot and install.
(Note: debmirror automatically cleans the mirror, so anything that is
not in the DIST and SECTIONS will be removed. This means that I cannot
have 2 scripts; one to download main/debian-installer without all the
other repos and another script to download the other repos without main
/debian-installer)

FYI, in dapper, I am able to download all repos and the main/debian-
installer section since dapper-security has a main/debian-installer
section. But the section was added later, until which I had the same
problem as I described above.

Summarizing the usecase problem is that I if feisty-security does not
have a main/debian-installer section, local mirrors cannot serve feisty-
security to their clients. If they do add feisty-security, then they
will not be able to netboot and do automated installs.

Two possible solutions come to mind (and also suggested by Carlos Javier):
1. Modify debmirror to ignore repos that do not have main/debian-installer
2. Create main/debian-installer sections automatically for all repos

The second option sounds more simple and easy. (When feisty was
released, there was feisty-security available, but no packages in it.
This allowed the feisty ISO to enable the security repo without clients
getting any 404 errors. Later, when packages were added to feisty-
security, it trickled down to clients (through update-manager) without
any additional sources.list modification.

Hope that helped.
--NetVenture

FYI, here is my debmirror wrapper script for dapper:

#/bin/bash
DEST=/home/Repository-ubuntu-dapper
HOST=gb.archive.ubuntu.com
ARCH=i386
DIST=dapper,dapper-security,dapper-updates,dapper-backports
SECTION=main,universe,multiverse,restricted,main/debian-installer

/usr/bin/debmirror --dist=${DIST} --section=${SECTION} ${DEST}
# End of script

[Bug 73733] Re: Palm Sync Crashes with calendar conduit in Evolution

2007-05-03 Thread elyk
I'm experiencing a similar issue, only it doesn't actually crash. What
happens is the palm will time out and throw a connection failed error,
while the hotsync progress dialog on the computer continues
indefinitely, stuck on synchronizing ECalendar. I have to do a killall
gpilotd gpilot-control-applet gpilot-applet to restore hotsync
functionality. As this is not an actual crash I don't think there's any
debugging symbols, but this seems to be a related issue. I'm running
Ubuntu Feisty Fawn and trying to synchronize a Handspring Visor Prism
using the USB cradle. I've got the port set to usb:, but I've also tried
running modprobe visor and setting it to ttyUSB0/1, with the same
results.

[Bug 111964] gnome-cups-manager does not change duplex option in cups

2007-05-03 Thread svasie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-cups-manager

I've added an Infotec IS2225 multifunction network printer (PPD file
downloaded from linuxprinting.org) via gnome-cups-manager. The printer
has a duplex unit and after setting up the printer I have enabled that
parameter in gnome-cups-manager (Duplex unit Installed ; Double sided
printing Long Edge). These settings get saved correctly and printing
works correctly in apps like OpenOffice or Adobe Reader.

The problem comes when I try to print double sided from Evince. Evince
does not show the duplex option so i cannot print doubled sided.

If I change the printer configuration manually from cups web interface,
Evince show duplex options and I can print double sided correctly.

It seems that gnome-cups-manager does not change duplex option in cups.

[Bug 111972] Kamera ioslave causes data loss

2007-05-03 Thread Bhavani Shankar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdegraphics

Copying quite huge files from the camera results in a target file of 0
bytes size. There's no error message at all, the copy process aborts
after being stalled at 0% quite some time.

The data loss now can happen, if you actually _move_ the file, rather
than copy it, because the source (on the camera) gets deleted after the
0-byte-file had been created.

[Bug 96663] Re: [nvidia-glx-legacy] glxinfo crashed with SIGSEGV

2007-05-03 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Timo:
If people can use later drivers than legacy then they should because the driver
behaviour has changed. legacy will disable GLX when the COMPOSITE extension is
on (and COMPOSITE is enabled by default since Edgy). See Bug #91064 for details
on this. If people are seeing this and have an old card which can ONLY use the
legacy driver it would be interesting to see how they ended up in this
situation because if they enabled drivers via restricted-manager then this
particular problem should be worked around.

[Bug 111981] getting Beryl Working on Feisty

2007-05-03 Thread Bhavani Shankar
Public bug reported:

Have been using
http://wiki.beryl-project.org/wiki/Install_Beryl_on_Ubuntu_Feisty_with_nVidia
to try to get Beryl working, I have however previously installed the
'Official' Ubuntu Beryl packages (not sure if this is relevant). I
have installed the 'new' binary nVidia drivers and they seemed to work
(were in fact VERY fast).

Anyway if I forrloed the instructions, restarted gdm and when I turn
on the desktop affects in the Ubuntu (Preferences?) menu I get wobbly
windows (but the desktop switch is not working). Thing is as soon as
I start the beryl-manager I seem to loose the windows manager (i.e. I
can see/use the windows but the theme has gone and I can move/resize
windows).

Any idea whats going on?

Thank you for your bug report.

To the best of my knowledge this has always been the case. Without the symbols

[Bug 97333] Re: Zaps /etc/wifi-radar.conf occasionally

2007-05-03 Thread era
And my recent comment is re: the claim in the manual that wifi-radar
will recreate the wifi-radar.conf file if it's missing, which isn't
correct as of the version I have.

Like I wrote above, I removed that claim from the manual in one of the
patches for bug #97413 but I was wondering if that change went in, since
the changelog only refers to formatting errors (my bad for using that
as the bug title, and then fixing other issues too in the patch).

[Bug 96669] Re: [feisty] deleting a song from the ipod only updates the database

2007-05-03 Thread Brian Fulkerson
I can also confirm this bug, on Feisty (Rhythmbox 0.10) as well was with
the current SVN version of Rhythmbox.

As Ben Hall mentions, an (annoying) workaround is to create a
.Trash-$USER folder in the root of the mount location of the ipod. Then,
Move to Trash will move the file to this location after removing it from
the ipod database. Now, you are free to remove the files manually from
this folder to actually free up the space (Empty trash in Nautilus
doesn't work for me).

I believe this bug stems from the fact that the ipod plugin
impl_move_to_trash (rb-ipod-source.c) uses rhythmdb_entry_move_to_trash
(rhythmdb.c) to remove the file. In rhythmdb_entry_move_to_trash, if no
trash exists for the volume (ie trash == NULL) the function will return
without doing anything.

See the related Rhythmbox bug thread:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=346434

There is a patch there which modifies the behavior so that when the
trash cannot be created on the ipod, it instead unlinks the file (with a
confirmation dialog).
