The debconf script for xserver-xorg is not very good for reconfiguration
after hardware change. It won't detect the card driver, and it always
asks useless questions about keyboard and modules.

Please attach the output from ``amixer'' in a Konsole.

Are you using ``aplay /usr/share/sounds/*up.wav'' to test whether audio
is audible? If not, please use this method, and attach any output in

2007-05-04 Thread winkler
I just installed the test packages for kde-guidance and
guidance-powermanager.

The good thing: Now guidance-powermanager works again! :-)

However, displayconfig-restore.py still crashes... and still, it only
happens when I use the xorg.conf with dual monitors enabled.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the good work!

[Bug 112271] Gaim Buddy-List Takes Excessive Time Starting Then Dies

2007-05-04 Thread Sam Williams
Public bug reported:

When I fire up gaim 2.0 beta6 I've discovered that it takes between 15
-40 seconds for the buddy list to be fully usable. Normally the window
frame appears quickly, but it takes the majority of the time to fully
populate with icons... After a couple of minutes the window dies
completely... For the record my current gaim Buddy list contains
connections to yahoo Messenger, Aim, Gtalk, and a second jabber
server...

I can send a partial trace from gdb. You can see a clear error file
e-book.c. I do find that gaim does not die if I keep it running in
gdb

Please let me know if there is any additional info. Trace will be
attached after the ticket is open.

[Bug 77990] Re: [feisty] cdrom double entries

2007-05-04 Thread radostyle
Changing /dev/hda (the dvd drive's device entry) to /dev/dvd in
/etc/fstab as per Robert's comment fixed it also for me.

My fstab was like this after the upgrade and my cdrom/dvd-rw drive
didn't work properly and couldn't read audio cds:

# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# file system mount point type options dump pass
proc/proc procdefaults0 0
# /dev/sda1
UUID=5d0da75e-802f-4fd9-9b5f-f8d2471a1d33 /   ext3
defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1
# /dev/sda5
UUID=6de62efe-7c61-4e38-a0de-5ef0ecfc40f0 noneswapsw
  0 0
/dev/hda/media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0
/dev/ /media/floppy0 autorw,user,noauto 0 0

and I made it like this:

# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# file system mount point type options dump pass
proc/proc procdefaults0 0
# /dev/sda1
UUID=5d0da75e-802f-4fd9-9b5f-f8d2471a1d33 /   ext3

# /dev/sda5

  0 0
/dev/dvd/media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0

and now audio cds can be mounted.

[Bug 108643] Re: nautilus cannot unmount USB media containing multiple partitions

2007-05-04 Thread Thomas Schiex
I confirm this too on a Feisty Fawn. But it does not seem related to
multi-partition not to owneership problems.

My USB hard drive with a single ext3 partition is mounted automatically
but then it cannot be ejected without being immediately remounted. Owner
of the corresponding directory in /media is effectively root.root. But
changing it by hand does not correct the bug. The volume still
autoremounts immediately after eject (saying it cannot be ejected).
Worked fine under Dapper and Edgy.

2007-05-04 Thread Don Edgar
Ditto with gaim. Aside from the fact that users should be able to
choose which IM client they use or don't use, it also affects those who
do want to use the newly released pidgin. Unfortunately pidgin and gaim
conflict, but you cannot remove gaim as previously stated.

[Bug 112274] Firefox constant cpu spikes at http://www.hoopsworld.com

2007-05-04 Thread Q
Public bug reported:

When I have http://www.hoopsworld.com open in Firefox, I get constant
cpu spikes. This prevents my cpu from throttling, eventually causing my
laptop's thermal sensor to shutdown the machine. This problem started
immediately after upgrading from Edgy to Feisty. I have tried with a
clean profile and still have the problem. This is 32bit install of
Feisty.

[Bug 72499] Re: payment schedule

2007-05-04 Thread lymz
After examining it, I noted 2 formula enhancements; please feel free
to add or elaborate on them. Also, Principle should be Principal as
noted and fixed in bug #67991.

1. Total Payments Paid formula changed from:
Interest sum + Loan Amount + Extra Principal sum
to:
Interest sum + Principal sum + Extra Principal sum

2. Extra Principal formula (E13:E371) changed from:
IF(Balance = 0); then $0; else Extra Principal Payment
to:
IF(Balance=0); then $0; else IF (Balance + Interest - Principal =
Extra Principal Payment); then Extra Principal Payment; else Balance +
Interest - Principal

I think both of these are more than just enhancements, these are bug
fixes. If you enter a large amount for Extra Principal Payment(i.e.
$50,000) both of these bugs are pretty evident; your Total Payments
Paid would be incorrect and you would overpay in Extra Principal.

There is still a bug in the spreadsheet; currently it is possible to
overpay the loan in one period (i.e. enter an Extra Principal Payment
larger than Loan Amount and you will get a negative balance). To fix
this, just extend the formulas from E13:F13 to E12:F12.

I attached a spreadsheet with this minor fix and the correct spelling.
I like the references from the Print worksheet instead of
recalculating. Very good work!

[Bug 112276] allow for tag renaming

2007-05-04 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tomboy

The new tagging capabilities of Tomboy could be more useful if you could
rename tags or even delete them from the search menu. I'm thinking of
something very similar to Epiphany's bookmark menu, where you can right-
click a tag (topics, I think Ephy calls them) to get a menu with both
options.

In case you want to rename a tag and there already is another with the
same name, you could get a dialog window asking you if you want to
proceed and merge them.

[Bug 82312] Re: [nvidia-glx] X is blank after upgrade (laptop/Geforce Go)

2007-05-04 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Simon:
The comment was not aimed at you. I don't expect people to be psychic and
magically know that they can get faster (and sometimes better) responses
without an endless back and for (which can last days, months or even years on
bug reports) elsewhere depending on their problem. I don't expect them to
already know that the system works better if a new bug is marked as duplicate
of an old bug if it turns out to already be a known issue (Why? Because if it
turns out that the bug was new and not related then you haven't confused the
original bug with unrelated information). I don't expect them to have already
scanned through the entirety of the BinaryDriver help page (including the
disjointed Troubleshooting section at the bottom which most people won't get to
due to its buried nature). You can't expect people to do any of these things
unless you tell them about them first. I thought I was informing people - your
comment clearly tells me that I was wrong. All I was doing was creating angst.

I don't want to discourage people from reporting new bugs when they are
using the Ubuntu provided software. I want people to get the fastest and
most appropriate resolution to their problem (and bug reports are not
always the best way to do that). I want Ubuntu to improve in the long
run and for it to be supportable. I don't want people to add a comment
and then never have a reply (and then in turn become frustrated) simply
because they commented in the wrong place. I don't want bugs that are
so big that people no longer know what they are about and where the
solutions are no longer visible. I don't want to chase away the people
who look at bug reports and take the time to reply to them by
frustrating them with bugs that contain dozens of issues. I don't want
the bustling river that is launchpad to turn into a becalmed lake but
nor do I want it to burst it banks and turn the surrounding land into
marsh.

(A brief aside. Since you have working TV-Out do you think you can help
the people over in Bug #109703 solve their int10 issue?)

Like you I am just another Ubuntu user. I have been spending time
looking at NVIDIA binary driver bug reports
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bugs?field.searchtext=nvidia+glxorderby=-date_last_updated
) trying to make some of them useful and ensure they have the
information they need, trying to check whether the original reporter's
issue is clear and has been resolved and trying to adjust titles to try
and maximise the information they provide. Given your reaction, I think
we might be better off if I scaled back this work (or stopped entirely)
as it seems to be counter-productive.

Flabdablet:
I think the best thing would be to see if NVIDIA can be contacted and helped to
improve their display detection so that the right thing is more likely to
happen out of the box for more people. I don't know how feasible or easy this
is to do though.

Hi,
There is no window list and I also don't have any window borders, no icons
to resize or to close the windows. I have just one window in the bottom
panel and can't add any or increase the number and I had 6 switcher windows.
Was working fine yesterday. I did download a new background image, have
since gone back to my older background a simple watercolour.

[Bug 112284] Gaim does not see typing notification of users of QIP

2007-05-04 Thread rpolach
Public bug reported:

For most users, Gaim notifies in conversation window other's user typing by
changing tab title color and displaying small icon...
But this does not work for QIP (ICQ client for MS-Windows) users...
Note, that QIP user claims that:
1) He had enabled typing notification in QIP's options..
2) He can see my typing notification
3) Other people using QIP or official ICQ clients can see his typing
notification,
it seems to be problem only when communitation between QIP and Gaim.

Gaim for Windows has exactly the same problem as Gaim in Ubuntu,
so this bug should be probably forwarded upstream...

Gaim for Windows has exactly the same problem as Gaim in Ubuntu,
so this bug should be probably forwarded upstream...

[Bug 112166] Re: Bad french translation on Evolution

2007-05-04 Thread Claude Paroz
Bob,
Versions of GNOME after 2.18.1 are not always pushed in Ubuntu, excepting
security updates, of course.
So I think someone should find the string in Rosetta and correct it so as the
next language-pack update has it. But I know it's always hard to find the right
string in a large package like Evolution :-) Maybe through .po download -
upload...

[Bug 112155] Report Needed

2007-05-04 Thread Hilario J. Montoliu \(hjmf\)
Thank you miauuu for submitting this report.

Could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions on
[1], or upload the crash report that probably was generated during the crash
and that should be located at /var/crash/ to [2].

Please indicate which extensions/plugins do you have enabled; and if this crash
is reproducible describe the steps that lead to it (it is very important for us
to have a test case for each crash).

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 110484] Re: k3b causes system freeze

2007-05-04 Thread oz_ollie
It appears to be a problem with the k3b launcher splash screen.

I installed AcetoneISO, after reading a review in Linux Format 92. One
of AcetoneISO's options is Burn CD/DVD, clicking on this launched k3b,
but without displaying the splash screen and straight into the regular
k3b window. I have only tried burning CD ISOs this way (successful), not
DVDs yet.

2007-05-04 Thread Héctor
I tried that boot option noapic acpi=off
It seems to solve the problem, but now I can only switch windows by clicking on
their titlebars.
At least I can use my mouse btw.
