[Bug 113871] Re: [feisty] Gnomebaker crashes when trying to burn a CD iso image

2007-05-19 Thread Stanki
I think I'm using the original package now. After I had installed your
and tested it I just updated the package. Everything was OK, but I've
been also trying to uninstall it and install the original GnomeBaker
package by Synaptic. It should be the original one, but I'm not sure if
it really is. When i now try to uninstall and install the package
nothing is downloaded during the installation. Maybe it's messed up and
it's using your package, I'm not sure.

2007-05-19 Thread Kent deVillafranca
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 59981 ***

I have this problem as well (ipw2200 on a Latitude X1) using Feisty, and so far
it's happening 2/3rds of the time I come out of suspend or hibernate.
Unchecking enable networking in network-manager and then enabling it again
fixes the problem, but it's still annoying (and never happened in Edgy)

[Bug 115630] nsBuildID.h missing from firefox-dev on gutsy

2007-05-19 Thread Michael W. Olson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-dev

The file /usr/include/firefox/nsBuildID.h is missing from the latest
version of firefox-dev in gutsy. I currently build a custom version of
the kazehakase web browser (to base it on firefox-dev rather than
libxul-dev) and the lack of this file causes it not to compile.

When I manually copied the version of nsBuildID.h from the firefox-
dev_2.0.0.3+1-0ubuntu2 package to /usr/include/firefox, the build
proceeded as normal.

[Bug 84115] Re: -fstack-protector breaks some compiles

2007-05-19 Thread Chris Conway
See, for example:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/iptables/+bug/66681

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/distcc/+bug/68641

The suggestions here is only that the stack-protector option show up in
the specstring. As it is, the only way to figure this out is to Google
it or to dig into the Debian changelogs.

[Bug 115631] Possibility to set language from programs indepedant of time format etc

2007-05-19 Thread Fredrik Sjögren
Public bug reported:

This is not really a bug but a much needed feature (I think atleast).

If you like me want all programs to use english for all phrases (so if
something goes wrong, you have a chance google on it) but still want all
other things to be swedish, ie time format, money format, numerical
format ( . vs ,) you have no possibility other than hacking
/etc/environment or other config files.

This is mine:

LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=en_US:en
LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8
LC_NUMERIC=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_TIME=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_COLLATE=en_US.UTF-8
LC_MONETARY=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_MESSAGES=en_US.UTF-8
LC_PAPER=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_NAME=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_ADDRESS=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_TELEPHONE=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_MEASUREMENT=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_IDENTIFICATION=en_US.UTF-8
LC_ALL=

Wouldn't it be nice to let the user select a advanced mode when all
these could be specified using the pretty gnome interface? Much like MS
Windows that let the user select language BUT override time format and
such things.

I DO think you do not need to be a power user to want english phrases
but swedish for the rest. 12 hour clock is really AWFUL and never used
here in sweden.

I'm presently booting with usplash disabled. Adding 'vga=normal' makes
no difference.

Thanks!

[Bug 115633] No boot flag on any partition - Failure to boot after install - Intel motherboards

2007-05-19 Thread Nico
Public bug reported:

This bug may be because of a specific hardware behaviour only.

This bug should maybe be attached to the partition manager used by
Ubiquity.

On an Intel DG965WH motherboard, after a regular and non-problematic
install of Feisty AMD64 from the Desktop CD, at first boot, the BIOS
says it cannot find any bootable device.

The problem is resolved by using a live CD and setting the proper
partition with the boot flag using fdisk, cfdisk or the Gnome Partition
Manager.

The same problem was related using an Intel 975-based motherboard
(http://dev.osso.nl/herman/blog/2007/05/18/got-new-hardware-yay-doesnt-
even-boot/#comment-24680) using the same fix.

I will be testing using the Alternate install CD.

Additional info and specific dumps can be generated upon request.

Hurry, though, as I will want to make this system production at some
point.

Nico

[Bug 115102] Re: [edgy - feisty] no more display with nvidia drivers, can't switch to console

2007-05-19 Thread Rominet7777
Hi, bad news...

I tried the livecd :
- using restricted manager, it installed nvidia-glx -- blank screen -- blind
reboot
- by hand, I installed nvidia-glx-new ran nvidia-xconfig -- blank screen --
blind reboot

... Herrr ??? I'm doomed ;)

Next step would be ... the kernel ? Or another older nvidia restricted driver...
I'll try the second solution first I think (shoud I say : I fear ? ;) )

[Bug 109968] Re: K3b shows an inexact information if MP3 plugin not installed

2007-05-19 Thread ilia K.
Faced the same bug today. Why average user needs googling in order to
find, which packages he should install for correct mp3 support under
k3b? IMO, this is a serious usability issue. I understand, that
installing MP3 support by default is not acceptable due to some patents
issues. However, the message mentioned above should include a names of
packages, which need to be installed by user in order to get MP3
support. Even a button may be added to launch adept to proceed the
installation automatically. If Gnome users have the automatic
installation of multimedia support, so Kubuntu users deserve.

P.S. In Feisty libk3b2-mp3 depends on libmad0, so it's sufficient to run
the installation of libk3b2-mp3 only.

[Bug 115633] Re: No boot flag on any partition - Failure to boot after install - Intel motherboards

2007-05-19 Thread Herman Bos
I can confirm this bug. I installed feisty with the i386 desktop cd and
couldn't boot afterwards. Setting the root partition with the boot flag
fixed it. I attached lspci just in case it might be useful. This problem
also exists with the lastest BIOS version for the Intel DG965WH.

Re: [Bug 104873] Re: [apport] emacs21-x crashed with SIGSEGV

2007-05-19 Thread Micah Cowan
 Just now I wasn't able to either. I tried using up as much memory as
 possible (played video on youtube and ran SBCL) but it still refuses
 to crash.

 Emacs used to crash quite often when I was running Feisty Fawn Beta
 but doesn't happen very often now. In fact, I had to take the extra
 effort last time to make it crash and right now it refuses to happen
 again.

Do you mean that reproducing the problem requires a limited-memory
environment?

[Bug 115639] flashier echo, that search is in progress

2007-05-19 Thread Peter L.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: beagle

When i do a search with beagle-search, the only echo checkback signal i
get, that the search is in progress, is the little GNOME foot (and even
that foot stops moving often). I think it would be a really good idea to
have a more visible sign, that Beagle is still searching.

[Bug 63271] Re: ntfs-3g support for pmount

2007-05-19 Thread mlx
Excuse the rant, but what gives? As of 2007-05-19, this bug has been
here for more than 6 months, Feisty has been released with ntfs-3g
right in its repositories and we're still stuck on being unable to
automount removable ntfs volumes with it. A possible solution is right
in the bug report. Since ntfs-3g is supposed to be supported, I'm
increasing the importance.

Looking forward to a fix. Thanks.

[Bug 29787] Re: Not detecting Backspace correctly

2007-05-19 Thread Micah Cowan
Couldn't confirm in rxvt-unicode, but can confirm for xfce4-terminal. My
xfce4-terminal sends ^? (ASCII DEL) for backspace, and claims to be
xterm, but under screen, the backspaces become ^@ (ASCII NUL). I'm not
sure what is causing this, as it works fine under gnome-terminal and
(for me) rxvt-unicode, both of which are also using ^?, and gnome-
terminal claims to be xterm.

It may be that xfce4-terminal isn't as compatible with xterm as it
claims to be.

If you are still experiencing issues with rxvt-unicode as well, what
version of that package do you have installed?

[Bug 115644] KDE help: Search uses different language prefix

2007-05-19 Thread Cictani
Public bug reported:

Hi,

If I search with KDE help I get the following output:

khc_htsearch.pl --docbook
--indexdir=/home/andreasw/.kde/share/apps/khelpcenter/index/
--config=kde_application_manuals --words= --method=and --maxnum=5
--lang=en

As you can see it uses en as prefix but it should use de (because my kde
is localized for german). This bug also occurs if you create a new
search index. It will only index documentation in the en directory.

Best regards

[Bug 115624] Re: reportlab.graphics.barcode doesn't get installed

The only change necessary seems to be to add to setup.py

At least that worked for me when I downloaded the 2.0 package. I don't know if
that fixes the package problem, though.

[Bug 115648] Ubuntu halts when Shared Key is selected on network configuration

2007-05-19 Thread Oleg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nm-applet

When, in the network manager, you select a network and input the WEP key
and select Shared Key instead of Open System, Ubuntu halts. I have
an rt61 wireless card, and although using a shared key isn't required, I
tried it once and Ubuntu just froze. I didn't have time to press Ctrl-
Alt-F1 to see the log. To reproduce this problem, just connect to a
wireless network by using the nm-applet at the top in Feisty, and select
Shared Key. Note that roaming mode has to be enabled for it to work.

Also, this might be another bug, but when roaming mode is enabled, and I
try to connect to my network, by entering the correct WEP key and try to
connect, the Internet doesn't work. You have to go into manual
configuration and enter the same information there. My guess is that it
doesn't assign a DHCP IP address, but instead tries to use a static one.
Thanks in advance for any help.

[Bug 115646] pcmcia card reader takes ages to mount

2007-05-19 Thread GreatBunzinni
Public bug reported:

I have a PCMCIA card reader that came with my Acer laptop and when I
plug it in and insert a card, it takes ages to get mounted. The strange
thing is that as soon as I plug in the card, lspcmcia reports a PCMCIA
device plugged in and nonetheless it takes several minutes for it to get
mounted.

Re: [Bug 112186] weird scim setup

2007-05-19 Thread Ming Hua
Okay, now let's do a summary:

 The default scim configuration is still different from other
 distributions and harder to use.

Different, yes. Hard to use, depends on who you ask, I think.

 The
 on/off is global (in contrast to other distributions which set up scim
 so that it can be turned on/off in each window separately).

This is a deliberate choice made by Ubuntu, as you can see in the patch
[1]:

diff -ruNad scim-1.4.6~/configs/config scim-1.4.6/configs/config
--- scim-1.4.6~/configs/config 2007-05-11 10:18:00.0 +0800

There is no detail rationale to my knowledge. You can file a bug if you
want.

1. http://patches.ubuntu.com/s/scim/scim_1.4.6-1ubuntu2.patch

 The on/off
 is also bound to Shift+Space which triggers scim quite often (I never
 had such problem elsewhere, even when scim was installed).

This is also a deliberate choice, made for Japanese users' accustomed
setting.  In the same patch:

If you have reasons to object to this change, you can discuss in that
bug. The reason given in that bug is quite brief.

 I think I chose no localization during setup. I can try to switch to
 an English locale but I am not interested in things like inches,
 special date formats, etc.

 OK, changing the language to US English gave an UTF-8 locale which fixed
 the problems with terminals.

SCIM is not designed to work in a C locale. The input method needs the
locale support to send non-ASCII characters to X and other programs. If
you don't want US measurement units, there are always other English
locales such as en_GB and en_AU. And if you don't like special date
formats, there is always LC_TIME for you to do micro-management.

 Sure the C locale is not very fitting for writing characters that are
 outside of ASCII. I could have figured out if I looked. But if Gnome can
 warn about such trivial things like missing icons (or more serious
 things like failure to load keymap) there is always room for more
 warnings.

Yes, but I don't see how that's related to this bug. You may want to
file a bug against gnome-session or something.

 How should I figure out that US English is an UTF-8 locale is a mystery.
 I could just try a few. Or try to find out how gdm maps the pretty names
 to locale names. But that is not the sort of thing a GUI user is
 supposed to do.

Ubuntu installations for any language uses UTF-8 locale by default, and
I believe it's mentioned in the document. And the default choice in GDM
should be a UTF-8 enabled locale, too. If you make the choice of a C
locale yourself, I think it's fair to assume you know what you are
doing.

 The gnome dictionary applet is still broken.

I've seen similar things in Debian before, you may want to file a bug
against the applet.

 The good thing is that dead keys work when scim is not enabled (hidden).
 In some setups they only work when scim is enabled and the
 English/keyboard method is selected.

IIRC, that's also a choice Ubuntu made and the configuration file got
patched. The new 1.4.6 release seems to have the dead key working
setting as default now, so it shouldn't be an issue for other
distributions either once they update to 1.4.6.

So is there anything else in this report that I haven't addressed?
Please file separate bugs as necessary, and I incline to reject this bug
once that's done, as the main issue is your locale setting.
