[Bug 118912] wrong behaviour of GeditDocument 'saving' signal
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit I was writing a few plugins for gedit using the python bindings and I found some incorrect behaviour with the 'saving' signal generated by Gedit Documents In particular, I was trying to extract the language id of the document at the time it was being saved, and this information was unavailable. However, if the file has already been saved, gedit correctly reports the language id, the reason for this behaviour is that on new files gedit has no way of knowing what language is being used, however when you save a file to harddisk gedit uses the filename extension (since this works even for empty files) to determine the file type and therefore the language. This information should be available when the saving signal is generated, since the filename is known before the file is actually written to disk. i could add a parser to retreive the language from the filename my self, but this would probably duplicate work since gedit must have a way to determine that already. [Bug 118914] Firefox: Please default browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll to true
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox Firefox is more usable with the browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll preference in about:config set to true. Most of the time, when I click on the URL bar, I intend to type a new URL, rather than edit the existing one. In every Windows and Mac browser, clicking the address bar selects the URL. Presumably, the reason that Linux browsers usually don't is due to X's odd habit of copying selected text to the clipboard, replacing whatever was there previously. I just want to add that any problems that occur after you start commenting out things in /etc/modprobe.d/lrm-video or puling up linux-restricted-modules-common and installing drivers not provided by Ubuntu repositories should not be reported to the launchpad bug area. If the drivers were downloaded from the NVIDIA web site then the NVIDIA Linux web forum (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=14 ) is an appropriate place to report issues. [Bug 14310] Re: fontconfig don't use autohinter as default
Hi, I read the recent font discussion at Mark Shuttleworth's blog that said autohinter is disabled by default in Debian and Ubuntu, vs. Fedora, interesting post: http://www.markshuttleworth.com/archives/119 I also do the “no hinting” thing in GNOME. The thing I don’t get is the difference in fonts between Red Hat/Fedora and Ubuntu/Debian. Fedora fonts look much nicer by default (a bit fatter), even without hinting disabled. I’m guessing it might have something to do with defoma. Default fonts– Fedora: http://www.phoronix.net/image.php?id=653image=fedora_7t2_08_lrg Ubuntu: http://polishlinux.org/stuff/screenshots/ubuntu/ubuntu_dapper_desktop_nautilus_libervisco.png Reply Fedora uses the autohinter whereas Ubuntu uses the font’s native hinting. The first is automatic and decent, the second is manually optimized for screens. But many “hinted” fonts have actually been generated with some automatic hinting instead of manual. So the native hint suck big time. Fontconfig allows you to choose which font you want autohinted by freetype, natively hinted or no hinting, but that’s only accessible by hacking fonts.conf, the font configuration tool only offers parts of those options. I agree a UI option to enable it would be nice in upstream GNOME. -- fontconfig don't use autohinter as default https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/14310 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
