[Bug 62002] Re: [i945] Installer X server startup fails
It's supposed to be fixed in 1:7.2-3ubuntu1. I'm testing Gutsy Tribe 1 and the bug is still present (using version 1:7.2-3ubuntu3). Since intel driver is included, there are two workarounds: 1) Change i810 to intel. 2) Write sync ranges and use i810 + 915resolution for widescreen resolutions. Since my laptop has widescreen, I prefer workaround #1, but every time I use sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg, the driver is changed back to i810 and no sync ranges are written in xorg.conf. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Unconfirmed -- [i945] Installer X server startup fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/62002 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have installed Kubuntu Feisty again. Problems with this application happened to me also with the earlier installation. I am a newbie to Linux but it's kind of annoying these problems with adept as one is cut afterwards from all package updates (except one is a Linux geek and knows how to handle it). Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22 I cannot get apport to work on 2.6.22-6.13. There is no data passed, the core dumps are 0 empty by default, and CORE_REAL_RLIM is always -1. Let's create a crash hook and enable it: $ echo -e '#!/bin/sh\nenv /tmp/env\ncat /tmp/crash' /tmp/hook $ chmod 755 /tmp/hook $ echo '|/tmp/hook' | sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern For the default ulimit 0: $ ulimit -c 0 $ bash -c 'kill -SEGV $$' Segmentation fault (core dumped) $ ls -l /tmp/env /tmp/crash -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 2007-06-08 08:25 /tmp/crash -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 145 2007-06-08 08:25 /tmp/env $ grep RLIM /tmp/env CORE_REAL_RLIM=-1 In this case, CORE_REAL_RLIM should be 0 (since -1 means 'unlimited') and /tmp/crash should have the entire core dump (but is empty). Re: [Bug 119075] Re: Root password policy for mysql
Caspar Clemens Mierau wrote: 1. Are there any other applications where random passwords are set (that you need)? Yes, mysql. People are unaware of this, but there is another root user in mysql wich has random password. Check /etc/mysql/debian.cnf. 2. MySQL by default does not listen on a (remote) network interface. Not directly, but that's not important. Local non-root user can destroy databases and local user can set up a service wich would allow remote users to connect to local mysql as root, again making possible to destroy mysql databases. 3. I cannot name one distribution that sets a random password to mysql, this would lead to a lot of questions. You can - Debian. I didn't check others. 4. You need to store it somewhere on the disk. As said - /etc/mysql/debian.cnf I therefore still prefer offering a script using the skip-stuff, be it in an init script or not. It could of course also be a /usr/sbin or /usr/local/sbin script named mysql_set_rootpass or something like this. Such script could also be easily given back to the debian project. If you still want to warn the user you could check the mysql password on start (starting mysql ... mysql has no password set ... please do xyz) which could be stopped by setting a flag in a config script. Script/program that overrides root password is something every mysql has for years now. There is nothing special we have to develop. init script already uses debian-sys-maint mysql account for checking status of mysqld, stoping it and doing reload. Adding 'reset_password' should be fairly easy. We should take a look if it is possible to change root password with mysqladmin, authenticated as debian-sys-maint user. If that's possible, adding random password to root and changing it's pass with mysqladmin trough init script should be trivial. -- Root password policy for mysql https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/119075 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 116326] Re: No audio INTEL HD audio - Realtek ALC268 codec - Toshiba A205-S4577
I bought a Toshiba A205-S4577 and I've been trying to get the sound working for the past couple of days. I went to Chris Cheney's link http://hg.alsa-project.org/alsa-kernel/rev/dd701601157b and applied the patch_realtek.c to ALSA 1.0.14, compiled it for hda- intel and installed it. If I specify 3stack for the model as a module parameter, PCM doesn't show up in the mixer, so model=auto seems to work best, but alas I still don't have sound even with this new patch supporting 268. Would there be any additional technical differences between the Toshiba's configuration that would still prevent sound from working? [Bug 86666] Re: Feisty crashes after grub if usplash enabled (amd64)
Like the title says, this is about Feisty crashes after grub if usplash enabled (amd64). This has nothing to do with X.org, or problems with X.org drivers, or non-amd64 machines. It seems it's limited to ATI's R420/R423 cards (X800-series), though there was a mention about nvidia GeForce Go 6100 + 32-bit but indeed it might good to have a different bug for it. For comparison, this is how it looks like on 2.6.20: $ ulimit -c 0 $ bash -c 'kill -SEGV $$' Segmentation fault (core dumped) $ ls -l /tmp/env /tmp/crash -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 909312 2007-06-08 08:45 /tmp/crash -rw-r--r-- 1 root root143 2007-06-08 08:45 /tmp/env $ grep RLIM /tmp/env CORE_REAL_RLIM=0 So by default the entire core dump is piped and CORE_REAL_RLIM is 0. For 'ulimit -S -c 50', CORE_REAL_RLIM is 51200. 2.6.20 does not cap the piped core dump to 50 KB as the current 2.6.22 seems to do; this is correct behaviour since we want the entire core dump for apport, we just want to clip the written core files to 50 KB. ** Changed in: linux-source-2.6.22 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High Target: None = tribe-2 -- apport patches for CORE_REAL_RLIM and limit overriding do not work any more https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/119267 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

What is this bug about? Is this bug about starting up an AMD64 system with an ATI card and then being unable to ever get to X (even vesa X) because the kernel crashed? I've unsubscribed ubuntu-universe-sponsors as the submitted debdiff was not uploaded after review by a sponsor. Please resubscribe when a new candidate revision to address this issue is prepared.
