[Bug 119463] Can't burn CD's; freezes OS.
Public bug reported: I have XP and Ubuntu Feisty Fawn 7.04 installed in my PC. In XP I can burn discs without issues, but Ubuntu has problems. I tried burning music CD's with Amarok, Gnome Baker, the built-in burn utility, and a couple of others with bad results. Each program prepares the files to write to the disc, and as soon as any of the programs get to the preparing disc for recording part, the OS comes to an almost complete halt. The programs become non responsive, the mouse moves at about one frame per 30 seconds, and the LED light on the disc drive doesn't blink. I tried the cdrecord command, and I got a repetitive output message of resid: 64512 and a partially halted system. Again, I'm certain the hardware works because I can read and write discs with XP, but Ubuntu only allows me to read them. Is it possible that you pressed button for a bit longer? On my HP nw8240 laptop, I need to do a short press in order to get logout dialog, otherwise the laptop just powers down. I can't comment about Kubuntu anymore but I'm using 3.5.7 from Debian. And still the problem is the same. The exchange connector will not work in offline mode. And when online too, it is very resource hungry. [Bug 119465] ati radeon cards won't work

Seeing the same problem here in Ubuntu Feisty on my Dell XPS M1210 laptop. DVD mounts, but fails to play. Trying to access it produces I/O errors in dmesg. Totem says Totem cannot play this type of media (DVD) because you do not have the appropriate plugins to handle it. I can browse the disc in Nautilus, but when I double click on a .vob file I get the following error Cannot open vts_01_3.vob The filename vts_01_3.vob indicates that this file is of type MPEG video. The contents of the file indicate that the file is of type plain text document. If you open this file, the file might present a security risk to your system. Do not open the file unless you created the file yourself, or received the file from a trusted source. To open the file, rename the file to the correct extension for plain text document, then open the file normally. Alternatively, use the Open With menu to choose a specific application for the file. line 39 still malformed. can't access updates. checking synaptic pkg. .can't get synaptic. This is Saturday. Will try on Monday, except I always seem to try again before I said i would.
