[Bug 120302] Re: Feisty Sound not working at all on a toshiba a200 satellite has intel HDA
I did this : sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r) wget ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/driver/alsa-driver-1.0.14.tar.bz2 tar -xjf alsa-driver-1.0.14.tar.bz2 cd alsa-driver-1.0.14 ./configure sudo make sudo make install Now I should have the current drivers. Which I think I already had. Rebooted and ...nothing ..went to alsamixer there are only 4 sound controls. Master, PMC, Caller I and Off hook. MAster and PMC were at 100% the other two were muted. unmuted them both. Still no sound. Does this look right? [Bug 120302] Re: Feisty Sound not working at all on a toshiba a200 satellite has intel HDA
Found this from another fellow. Seems to have a similar situation: [alsa-devel] bios update alters hda-intel and alsamixer Chris Pemberton cjpembo at gmail.com Wed May 23 06:55:55 CEST 2007 * Previous message: [alsa-devel] Default Sample rate Conversion * Next message: [alsa-devel] bios update alters hda-intel and alsamixer * Messages sorted by: [ date ] [ thread ] [ subject ] [ author ] After updating the bios on a Lenovo notebook, my hda-intel sound changed Before the bios update I used kernel 2.6.20.3, external alsa-driver-1.0.14rc3 and the attached patch_realtek.c (in-kernel alsa wouldn't work) After the bios update I use just the alsa contained in kernel 2.6.20.3. Before bios update, my mixer contained many items: including master, front, mic, pcm, etc. Now it only contains master and pcm. So, I have a few questions: How can I determine what items are supposed to show up in alsamixer? Where can I submit my laptop soundcard information to help finalize support of this model/card? [Bug 121644] Re: no sound fiesty fawn HDA ATI sigmatel stac9200
Dear Chen, What is cross-country ATM? Also, Im fully aware that ubuntu is humanity of others, no one gets paid, everything is free -- FSF, GNU, etc. I LOVE That mantra and for that reason -- despite all the infuriating input/output erros when I read from any disk, sound bugs, video errors, and the other thousands of bugs I'm encountering, I've been staying onboard as long as I have been. Also, the free software seems to have a more appealing interface because it can pick and choose best of both worlds (from mac and/or windows) without the competitive, profit factor. I love mac, windows was more widespread, but the Ubuntu ideology is the best. Hopefully it's ideology will make it practically useable in time. I've strongly considered signing off of it and reverting back to windows and/or mac, but if I get all the bugs fixed, it will, by default be far better than mac OS and/or windows OS combined simply because of its altruistic backbone. Now, how do I get on the #alsa/Freenode channel ?? Is that IRC? I've been very patient. INCREDIBLY patient. [Bug 102240] Re: eclipse crashed while I was trying to install a few addons through their updater.
Sorry about the long delay. Here are some things that have become more obvious since the original incident: 1. The machine I was using seems to have a hardware problem that causes it to freeze. I don't believe that has anything to do with Ubuntu. The problem appeared around the same time as this bug, so hopefully, the actual crash was caused by that. 2. There is a problem loading Eclipse packages from within Eclipse because they try to write to directories that require root access. Therefore, you would indeed have to launch Eclipse with sudo, as Josir recommended. However, I would prefer not to run something as sudo unless I have to, especially when writing code. I know what kind of damage I am capable of doing! 3. I am currently downloading Eclipse (non-repository) for my new machine, which is running much better than the old one. I still have the other one available, but due to the fact that there seems to be a hardware issue, I think that it is unfair to Ubuntu to use it to work off bugs. BTW, my new machine is dual-boot Feisty/Vista and running beautifully, though I can't speak much for the Vista side because I rarely use it. [Bug 121833] LCD backlight turns entirely off when set between brightness levels.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager When gnome-power-manager dims the screen when on battery or when idle, the backlight turns entirely off. In addition, during the fade the screen blinks: 100%, OFF, 75%, OFF, 50%, OFF. cat /proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCD/brightness: levels: 100 37 12 25 37 50 62 75 87 100 current: 100 The screen is turning off whenever something requests a brightness level between the available discrete levels; thus the default dim-when- inactive brightness of 30 turns the backlight off. For a while, I thought my system was freezing at a black screen at login (battery) or idle (AC), until I remembered the brightness controls. One factor in this is the new /sys/class/backlight/ interface for brightness control, common to all ACPI drivers: This structure does not seem to provide the same, necessary information, such as available discrete brightness levels. /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/max_brightness: 100 /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/actual_brightness:62 == changes even when keyboard hotkeys are used; g-p-m does not notice this. /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness: 62 == changes only when software requests a change. HAL lists num_levels=101, while ideally it should be 8 or 9. Better yet, the kernel itself should provide the discrete levels, or rounding issues may appear. Oddly. the brightness levels 12, 37, 62, and 75 work through echoing into 'brightness', but turn the backlight off if used in g-p-m. oz: This is actually more of a support query than a bug report (How do I get 3D going on my NVIDIA graphics card under Ubuntu?) and may have been better asked on one of the areas listed on http://www.ubuntu.com/support/communitysupport . You did not say what version of Ubuntu you were running (however I from the log posted I can deduce that it is probably Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty). If you are using 7.04, the short answer is to take a look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia . The long answer is that you are using the open source nv driver and the open source driver for NVIDIA cards does not have any 3D support. This is because NVIDIA have not released specifications on how the 3D (or dual head for that matter) portion of their cards works and nor will they in the future (see http://www.abclinuxu.cz/clanky/rozhovory/andy- ritger-nvidia?page=1 ). There is a reverse engineering effort called Nouveau (http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/FrontPage ) that is attempting to rectify this but the project is in its infancy. The closed source NVIDIA binary driver DOES have accelerated 3D support and other features not available in the open source nv driver but is not installed out of the box. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BinaryDriverEducation talks a bit about the pros and cons of binary drivers. [Bug 121836] deluge crashed with ImportError in find_class()
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: deluge-torrent Deluge crashes on startup. I believe this is due to an error in handling old configuration ~/.config/deluge - I had the previous version of Deluge installed (0.4.x - the one removed from the archive by bug #105187) and when I move that config away deluge starts fine. Moving the old config back makes deluge crash on startup again. I'll attach the contents of my ~/.config/deluge directory which causes this crash. [Bug 121837] No automount for ntfs external drive using usb port
Public bug reported: Here is the bug. When I plug in a usb-stick (Sandisk Cruzer Mini) using a fat32 file- system, Konqueror pops up, ask me what to do and after choosing to browse the media, a new window opens. However, when I plug in a hard-drive (Hitachi IDE 120 Go) installed in an external box (enermax) with USB 2.0 connection, the kde deamon pops up, ask me what to do, but after choosing to browse, nothing happen. To enable the automount feature, I must edit the /etc/fstab file in this way : /dev/sdb1 /media/sdb1 auto uid=1000 Once the fstab saved, when I connect the USB port, everything goes well, if the ntfs disk is the first to be connected, because if I connect my USB-key first, it will take the /dev/sdb1, and an other line in fstab will be necessary to mount the other drive. ** Affects: kdebase (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- No automount for ntfs external drive using usb port https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/121837 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is a bug contact for kdebase in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 117621] Re: Hang during boot after kernel update (2.6.20-16.28) due to missing hddtemp partitions
Vajra: A new kernel (2.6.20-16.29) reverting the piix changes was released: http://www.ubuntu.com/usn/usn-470-1 on 08 June 2007. This will have changed the partition block device names back to what hddtemp was expecting.
