[Bug 127668] does not clean up incomplete downloads

2007-07-23 Thread Shirish Agarwal
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-granparadiso

Take some rapidshare or any other file-hosting site. Start downloading
the file. Stop anywhere before the download is complete. Now try to
cancel and/or clean up the download . Nothing will happen. Delete the
partially downloaded file but still the download remains. There is no
way to clean/clear it. :(

[Bug 127667] Desktop freezes when compiz terminates (on logout or otherwise)

2007-07-23 Thread Anders Kaseorg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

As of recent gutsy upgrades, when compiz terminates, the entire desktop
freezes. This happens on logout, and also after typing metacity
--replace (in which case the desktop freezes so quickly that the next
shell prompt does not even appear). Ctrl+Alt+F1 does nothing, although
the cursor still moves with the mouse.

[Bug 122949] Re: Tray icons take a LONG time to appear with compiz enabled

2007-07-23 Thread Anders Kaseorg
I still see this in gutsy, with and without compiz. gnome-power-manager
and network-manager take two minutes (fairly exactly) to appear after
login. Furthermore, the System Quit dialog will not appear during
this interval, either.

[Bug 56894] Re: WLAN disconnects repeatedly from AP when using WPA on a SMP machine

2007-07-23 Thread Ketil Malde
Does Fix Committed mean that I shouldn't be seeing this? 'Cause I do,
this on Feisty with 2.6.20-16-generic. Large file tranfers over wifi
break, confusing the wifi setup. Interestingly enough, resetting the
access point allows me to restore things (by rerunning iwconfig/dhclient
on the client). However, I've seen this happen on several different
access points now, from three different vendors (Apple, Billion, and
D-link). Less intensive use (web browsing) cause no problems, it seems.

It may be related to encryption, I've only tested this with WEP (both
short and long keys).

Reducing the bandwidth to 2Mbit seems to alleviate the problem a bit,
but I'm unable to make the setting stick, it gets reset to max at
regular intervals.

After the network is broken, I noticed that I couldn't make my wifi card
associate with the AP, repeated iwconfigs would mostly display not
associated, and only occasionally the AP MAC address - which would then
disappear at the next invocation. dhclient would broadcast, but never
get any replies.

This is on a Core 2 Duo Dell 620m. I haven't tested the maxcpus option
to see if the problem is related to SMP.

I have exactly the same bug has described above, but with mp4 files.

When I click on the first blank under auto for the audio, nothing
happens. When I try the second one, I got no sound and after a while,
the auto is selected.

[Bug 122979] Re: Video playback gets buggy when Compiz is on

2007-07-23 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
fenix:
XShm which is not accelerated by the video card can still be pretty fast (just
at the expense of CPU). However you will tend to notice a certain blockiness
when the video is scaled up. It is possible that is what you are ending up with.

I'm not quite sure why Bug #73471 was forward duped on to this one. It would
have been better to back dup this on to #73471 (credit where it's due - the
first person to report an issue should have their bug as the canonical one)...
However since the deed is done it's not worth changing things.

I really would recommend that this bug be split into two though - one
bug for Intel AIGLX users and the other for open source ATI AIGLX users
(and perhaps a comment linking to the other to help people find the
right bug). It is quite possible that one of the drivers will be fixed
and the other won't before Gutsy is released.

[Bug 127395] Re: nvidia binary locks up system with an NVIDIA 8400M GS card

2007-07-23 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 120943 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/120943

According to
http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/100.14.11/README/appendix-a.html
100.14.11 (as you have mentioned) supports your card so this is
effectively a request for 100.14.11 to be available. Closing as a
duplicate of Bug #120943.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a duplicate
of bug Bug #120943 and is being marked as such. Please look at the other
bug report to see if there is any information missing that you can add
or to see if there is a work around. Feel free to continue to report any
other bugs you may find.

[Bug 85370] Re: amd64: Random system hangs and mouse issues with 6.10 (cpufreq related?)

2007-07-23 Thread Sense Hofstede
About the 100% processor usage, I sometimes have also that problem. I
have only Firefox, Thunderbird and Rythmbox(playing) on. I think the
priority should be higher, I couldn't install it with the livecd, and
after I installed it with the alternate CD I had to remove powernowd in
the recovery mode before I could properly use the system. But at the
Duron, I could install it with the LiveCD, but after a while it began to
freeze. A very few times after removing powernowd, it also freezes, but
this happens almost never. I can't access the log files at the
moment(and I still can't the next three weeks), but if you want them,
please ask me.

[Bug 110394] Re: Keyboard freezes completely and mouse interaction doesn't work for some tasks (Happens randomly but inevitable)

2007-07-23 Thread dennda
Hi,
I have to correct what I said in this threads first post:
This not only is a Feisty-related problem.

Yesterday it also appeared with a fresh install of Debian Etch.
(I was browsing the web [with flash content] and chatting [with gajim], if this
is of any interest.)

I have an AMD Athlon, but unfortunately I cannot tell whether it uses or even
HAS this powernode thingy.
I am not at home right now so I cannot tell. This has to wait until the weekend.

I hope this is further information you need to fix this.
(By the way: I bought a new computer with Intel Core 2 Duo. It never happened
with this machine as far as I remember. But that may be coincidental.)

regards

[Bug 36547] Re: scim: im-switch configuration for XIM mode should check user's locale

2007-07-23 Thread Michal Suchanek
It think it is possible to add the current locale to the configuration
file if it is an utf-8 locale.

However, I do not know what the format of the file is so I am not sure
if this can be done safely.

Another option is to start scim in en_US locale if the current locale is
not supported. This would be suboptimal if scim translation for the
current locale exists, though.

Another option is to make a default config file the locales for which
scim is translated, and use en_US otherwise.

[Bug 81782] Re: Realtek ethernet controller detected but no automatic dhcp on edgy

2007-07-23 Thread Martin Pitt
This sounds worth considering for the dapper point release. Can you
please give a pointer to the patch here? (GIT URL, or an attachment).

Setting back to Triaged because 'fix committed' means 'in -proposed' for
SRUs.

Re: [Bug 127341] Re: [needs-packaging] UFO:Alien Invasion

2007-07-23 Thread Aaron Whitehouse
That is a fair question.

Putting it on the mirrors would make life a lot easier than it is at
the moment. It is quite possible that we have 50, less-popular, 5MB
applications than this one.

If we really can't warrant the space then perhaps we could create a
dummy package. That would mean that we could have it get the
dependencies sorted (something that some people have had issues with),
download the files and start the installer. The installer is pretty
good, so that shouldn't cause too many problems.

Is there a policy on this issue? This can't be the only time it has
been asked and I'm sure it will not be the last.

[Bug 127678] ubiquity crashes when configuring boot loader

2007-07-23 Thread Sundaram
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

In x86_64 system with dual Fiesty Ubuntu (32-bit) and XP, I formatted
the drives of Ubuntu from XP so as to install 64-bit Fiesty Ubuntu.
After the format I used XP's bootable disc and fixed MBR by (fixmbr) and
now the system had only XP with normal boot. Now I booted using Ubuntu
64-bit disc and choose manual partition. I used the same freespace for
'/ ' with ReiserFS as the filesys. In the next step, which detects
user(s) info from XP, unusually showed none in the list, saysing no
user/OS compatible. The installation crashes around 94 to 96% when
Configuring Boot Loader

Then I formatted the whole HDD (SATA HDD) with DOS fdisk and tried
installing Ubuntu from scratch. I kept the / (reiserfs) mount point in
the very beginning of the 160 GB disk. The same occured.

Then after formatting the whole disk I installed Vista, then booted with
Ubuntu, and this time too it ended up the same way.

After this I tried in many ways (10 times!!!) which include '/' as
Primary, some times as Logical, and some with Extended Dos Partition
(logical). All of the tries ended up the same way - crash while
Configuring Boot Loader.

I am so sorry that I do not have any logs with me since I am currently
working in another system.

[Bug 127649] Re: nm-applet doesn't work unless I start dhclient manually

2007-07-23 Thread Bogdan Butnaru
I've just done a restart and recorded the logs for the entire procedure.
When I log in, the first thing that pops up is the keyring dialog asking
for the keyring password. I started iwevent in a console (so every event
that came up before this doesn't appear), then:

(1) I unlocked the keyring. The events from the start until about 09:56:09 are
from that time. Then, the NM dialog asking for the wireless password comes up.
(Interestingly, the not-associated message at 9:56:27 comes up _after_ the
dialog appears.
(2) Then I give the network password, and the same thing happens. (The dialog
asking for the password appears before the non-associated event. While I was
opening a console to start dhclient, I noticed that the cycle of
association/disassociation comes up several times, without me entering the
password.
(3) I start sudo dhclient eth1 and give the network password to NM. The
address comes up immediately:
**

Below is the /var/log/daemon.log file between the boot time and until
after the network started. What I noticed for the first time today is
that lots of messages from rrd_update appear at the bottom; I didn't
notice them before, they might be caused by the fact that yesterday I
uninstalled ntpd. Second, during the password entry above I noticed the
system clock does something weird; the clock applet wasn't well
synchronized with the timestamps given by iwevent; it seemed about a
minute fast.

If the cause is a timeout as per my suspicion in the first post, maybe
it's caused by some re-aligning of the clock at boot. (Though it's a bit
late for that when GDM started already, isn't it?)
