[Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share
Hello Amir Perhaps we need to evaluate and consider priorities for R-L language support, by considering how much an initiative put into improved R-L support will pay back with increased community contribution. To bring GNU/Linux to critical mass quickly, it is essential to focus on areas where we can generate a strong positive feedback effect. A very practical way users of R-L languages can help is by filing high quality test-case bugs against Openoffice and Firefox. Either through Ubuntu Launchpad, or through Firefox/OpenOffice's own bug tracker. Better still, write patches for the programs. -- Microsoft has a majority market share https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 127522] Re: gutsy: system freezes in battery mode
Some info regarding this behaviour on my laptop: 1. It happens every time I unplug the power chord; 2. It unfreezes normally upon replugging the power chord or disabling Silent Mode (a button with the drawing of a fan that should modulate cpu voltage thus diminishing the need for the fan); 3. It also happens on tty1 when I '/etc/init.d/gdm stop'; 4. When it 'comes back' it empties the keyboard buffer on the console, ie: shows the keys I pressed during the freeze; 5. It is undefinite, meaning that it doesn't come back until battery runs out; 6. It *doesn't* happen when I boot into safe mode (second Grub option); 6a. If I call startx from safe mode it also doesn't happen. One more thing: the system only freezes after some time of inativity (I guess that about 1-2 seconds). It means that it doesn't freeze if, upon disconnecting the power chord, I keep messing around with the mouse/touchpad. -- gutsy: system freezes in battery mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127522 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 62163] Re: variables from the session are not defined
dbus (1.1.1-3ubuntu1) gutsy; urgency=low * Merge from debian unstable, remaining changes: - debian/patches/80-dbus-change-at-console-policy.patch: Make at_console policy work with libpam-foreground. - debian/patches/81-session.conf-timeout.patch: Raise the service startup timeout from 25 to 60 seconds. It may be too short on the live CD with slow machines. - debian/rules: Start dbus at runlevel priority 12, so that it comes before gdm. This eliminates the race condition of starting the X session before hal is running. Also use 'multiuser' mode of update-rc.d. - debian/dbus.postinst: Migrate rc?.d symlinks from 20 to 12 on upgrades to this version. This needs to be kept until the next Ubuntu LTS. - debian/dbus.{postinst,prerm}: Reverted Debian's change to always restart dbus on upgrades. * debian/control: Drop dbus dependency to dbus-x11, since we crave to get rid of that Xsession.d script. (LP: #62163) * debian/dbus.preinst: Improve rm_conffile() to get the unmodified md5sum from dpkg instead of hardcoding it, and remove unchanged /etc/X11/Xsession.d/75dbus_dbus-launch on upgrade. * Fix debian/patches/80-dbus-change-at-console-policy.patch dbus (1.1.1-3) unstable; urgency=low * List arches where the build-dep on libselinux1-dev doesn't apply; thanks Michael Banck; closes: #430821. * Wrap build-deps and deps. * Misc cleanups, including quoting in maintainer scripts. * Add myself as uploader. * Add ${misc:Depends}. dbus (1.1.1-2) unstable; urgency=low * debian/control - Fix small typo in the dbus-x11 package description. (Closes: #430736) dbus (1.1.1-1) unstable; urgency=low [ Michael Biebl ] * debian/patches/02_dbus_monitor_no_sigint_handler.patch + Remove the sigint_handler in dbus-monitor so the application properly terminates on STRG+C. Re: [Bug 127131] Re: Cannot Install Tribe 3 on ASUS F3Jr Notebook
Thanks for your guidance on this issue. I normally use the kubuntu forum but I did find a way to get my desktop going. The web address and the procedure that I followed with Tribe 3 is: http://www.mikesplanet.net/2007/04/installing-ubuntu-704-ati-x-cards/ This quick guide will get Feisty installed and X.org 7.2 up and running. 1. Boot using PC (Intel x86) alternate install CD for Ubuntu or Kubuntu. 2. Start text mode installer and install Ubuntu/Kubuntu. 3. Finish Install and reboot. 4. Update package list and upgrade any packages needed. sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade 5. Install fglrx closed source driver for ATI video cards. sudo apt-get install xorg-driver-fglrx 6. Update loaded modules. sudo depmod -a 7. Configure /etc/X11/xorg.conf sudo aticonfig --initial sudo aticonfig --overlay-type=Xv 8. Reboot All I have to do now is get sound which seems to be a major problem at this stage and also get my notebook connected to the wireless network which uses a Netgear Wireless Router WGR614. I am currently spending all my spare time to resolve the problems. [Bug 123062] Re: apport-gtk crashed with AssertionError in __setitem__()
Thank you! The seahorse crash had an empty core dump (see bug 122688), so it indeed cannot contain anything sensitive. The dump does not cause apport to crash, though, so it does not help me to reproduce the circumstances. It looks like packaging.get_source('seahorse') returned None on your system. What does this print out for you: python -c import apt; print apt.Cache()['seahorse'].sourcePackageName It should answer with a warning about apt API not stable yet and print seahorse as the last line. -- apport-gtk crashed with AssertionError in __setitem__() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/123062 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 112803] Re: MASTER [Feisty] cupsd leaking file descriptors (was: Multiple jobs are not printed)
I am running here clustered X-terminal servers with cups on it as print service. I have the problem with feisty version as well as with the 1.2.11 (compiled as recommended above). I can contribute this: when i have a stalled print job, i see one additional pipe handle each time cups tries to reprint or reconnect to the printer. This way i the open file number is exceeded within minutes, you can watch it online. A cupsys force-reload brings the number of pipes back to two. Until the bug is fixed i have a small script driven by cron which does this reload when the number of pipes exceeds 50. That is not nice, but it prevents cups from getting quickly unusable. With Debian Etch file servers i do not see a similar problem. I desperately hope that someone can fix this...soon. -- MASTER [Feisty] cupsd leaking file descriptors (was: Multiple jobs are not printed) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/112803 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Sane-find-scanner or scanimage -L causes a kernel panic as follows: Bad Segment list supplied to AHA1542.c (1,0) 0:C0008000 5 ptr C04B000 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 00 08 12 00 00 00 00 00 00 0 Kernel Panic - not syncing:Fod fight! Googling around a bit suggests that this might be a regression in the aha1542 kernel driver as it seems to have appeared at irregualr intervals from late 2.4.x kernels, been fixed but then reappeared in 2.6.x kernels. I've not seen this before on this machine, but then I last ran breezy on it so perhaps the module was still ok then. Scanner/card/etc all seems ok on dual boot Windows XP. [Bug 127938] cifs mounts don't umount on shutdown
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22 Since feisty (i'm using gutsy now) when i shutdown the machine, it hangs on the last stage, while sending KILL signal to processes, waiting for cifs mounts umount. My guess is that network is turned off before we have networks shares umounted. So, when Ubuntu tries to umount that shares, it cannot find the network resource. ** Affects: linux-source-2.6.22 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- cifs mounts don't umount on shutdown https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127938 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 127940] logrotate script for acpid may send USR1 to innocent processes
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: acpid The script /etc/logrotate.d/acpid in version 1.0.4-5ubuntu6 of package acpid (which appears in 7.04 Feisty) issues the following command to restart the acpid process: pkill -SIGUSR1 acpid /dev/null If a user for some reason runs her own executables named acpid, that script will send the USR1 signal to the user's processes as well as to the true acpid. If the user's acpid handles signals, that may result in undefined behavior. As a workaround, you can add the '-u root' option to pkill, which will limit the possibility of unwanted signal sending to the processes run by system administrators. The right way to fix this, however, is to save the process id of acpid in /var/run/ and use only that pid to identify the process. ** Affects: acpid (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- logrotate script for acpid may send USR1 to innocent processes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127940 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 125267] Re: firefox always starts saying it wasn't closed well
The problem is that i don't do this! I always close firefox before shutting down the system. The only thing I see that might be causing it is closing all the tabs at once, clicking on the x cross on the title bar of firefox. But I have always done this since i started to use firefox a long time ago. It seems that when i close each tab separately and then close firefox, it does not happen. But if I close all of them together, even accepting the message that comes right after which says: you are closing n tabs. Is that ok?, firefox will tell me that it hasn't been closed right and asks me if i want to restart the session. -- firefox always starts saying it wasn't closed well https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/125267 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I am experiencing the same problem. When you maximize a gnome-terminal, you are not able to resize it, minimize it or close it by the buttons in the top right corner when using Compiz. When you try to either press one of the window buttons of the top right corner or double click on the title bar, then the window title bar look like it lost focus. When you then again click either one of the buttons or on the title bar, then it will ignore the terminal window and perform the action on the window behind it (which is really annoying, many times I have closed applications when I wanted to close the terminal). -- gnome-terminal and compiz / minimize and maximize behaviour https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/119608 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
