[Bug 123569] Re: [GUTSY] firefox crashed on dialog windows

2007-08-15 Thread K8BeBop
I reported on a bug #128185. I had the exact same problems you are
experiencing, and didn't see this bug when I searched for mine.
Actually my crash appeared in Thunderbird first, opening a new window
for a new message. Probably since it was first app I ran. Here is what I
did.

I was looking into past bugs and came upon bug #45008. I remember that I
just downloaded a bunch of themes thru Art Manager, to try them out. I
was using Aluminum-Alloy-Volcanic, and then all these crashes started
happening.

Just for the heck of it, I switched back to the Human default theme, and
everything works ok. Firefox, Thunderbird, and OpenOffice. All dialogs
work now.

[Bug 107766] Re: system-config-printer adds menu item the same as gnome-cups-manager's menu item

2007-08-15 Thread Ralf Nieuwenhuijsen
I would vote for Martin' solution.
Just giving them different names doesn't really solve the issue.

I did do a fresh install of Tribe 2, but have been updating ever since.
When we update from Feisty, we will also have two different
administration programs. It's not just that their name is equal. It's
just confusing to have two printer adminstration capplets installed by
default.

PS. Should I file a separate bug reports about the test-page of the new
admin not being Ubuntu-specific?

[Bug 130832] Re: nvidia-glx installation is broken after reboot

2007-08-15 Thread foolishchild
Problem resolved by:

remove all of linux-restricted-modules*, nvidia* with --purge

install envy
- use envy to install nvidia-glx
- use envy to remove nvidia-glx
- use envy to clean-up all ATI and Nvidia installations
remove envy

install linux-restricted-modules-generic* first, then install nvidia-glx

All now works.

Things that made it hard were (hoping this might help somebody else):
- after about a dozen attempts and reboots, realising that the latest kernel
(2.6.20-16) does not work with current ubuntu provided nvidia-glx, so had to
revert to 2.6.20-15.
- remembering to install linux-restricted-modules BEFORE nvidia-glx, because
nvidia-glx drags in the -386 stuff instead of the -generic stuff. Why?

Thanks to Sitsofe and Alberto, and I owe Alberto an apology - envy is
very verbose, you can see what's going on, my issue now is it installs
about a million other packages than the ones you get if you go the
ubuntu way, and I don't want to do that whenever I change kernel. The
only thing it didn't clean up after itself (as far as I can tell) was
/usr/share/envy - it said it wasn't empty.

[Bug 107766] Re: system-config-printer adds menu item the same as gnome-cups-manager's menu item

2007-08-15 Thread Martin Pitt
We do not install gnome-cups-manager by default any more, but I do see
that this creates confusion on upgrades. We shuold probably make g-c-m
and s-c-p conflict to each other, so that you can only have one of them
installed. This would both solve this bug and also do the right thing on
upgrades.

What do you think?

[Bug 92997] Re: desktop loads incredibly slow after todays upgrade and wireless doesn' t come up automatically

2007-08-15 Thread Kazakx
Hi guys i have the same problem. I have a dell inspiron 6000 with an intel pro
2200 wireless card.
The problem started after I changed the domain for localhost.localdomain.
Changing back to localhost.localdomain did not solve the problem. It looks like
the system is searching for something and after a timeout (4 minutes) its
resumes his things. The funny thing is that I cannot see any cpu load :( via
ctrl-alt-F1 console access.

1 of 4-5 boots inititiates this problem. Then i do a hard reset and it will
solve.
Also a logout an login again initiates the problem.
Very frustrating.

Who can fix this???

[Bug 132227] Re: Configuring a new printer should be easier and have better defaults

2007-08-15 Thread Martin Pitt
In order to not overload one bug number with several issues, let's
dedicate this bug for the 'configure a new printer' workflow. I changed
the title accordingly, since "Bad UI" is too generic and does not
support searching for bugs very well.

Current s-c-p's workflow is similar to g-c-m's now, so let's consider
that fixed. If you still have improvements about new printer
configuration, we'll reopen this one. For other bugs (hanging UI, broken
buttons etc.) there should be separate bug reports.

Thank you for your report!

[Bug 132227] Re: Bad UI

2007-08-15 Thread Martin Pitt
Tim, that's an awesome improvement, thank you very much!

Till packaged the current svn snapshot, I uploaded it now after a small
cleanup:

 system-config-printer (0.7.71+-svn1399-0ubuntu1) gutsy; urgency=low
 .
   [ Till Kamppeter ]
   * New upstream release
  o Subversion snapshot r1399
o GUI improvements on add-printer wizard
   * debian/patches/66_os_environ.patch: Removed, merged upstream
   * debian/patches/20_support_cups_nonroot.patch: Rediff
 .
   [ Martin Pitt ]
   * Drop 20_support_cups_nonroot.patch. Our cups runs as root now, so this is
 not necessary any more.

I leave the bug open, there still seem to be some smaller issues left
here?

[Bug 132650] Sony Laptop doesn't shut down

2007-08-15 Thread nacktmull
Public bug reported:

Experienced bug in Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 - installed from alternate herd 4 /
Laptop: Sony Vaio
Model: VGN-S5HP

When trying to shut the notebook down, it stops the shutdown process with
saying "[numbers.numbers Power down]". Laptop stays on with the harddisk
spinning. Only a hard shutdown (power swith) helps. After this, rebooting
sometimes the system doesn't work. I did not experience these issues on Feisty
7.04 final version - only Gutsy 7.10 creates this problem.

[Bug 132646] firmware files do not have any license

2007-08-15 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hplip

COPYING assigns licenses to various files, but data/firmware/* does not
have any license.

Since firmware does not have any source code and thus is not available
in the "preferred form of modification) (as mandated by the GPL), these
files should be distributed under the BSD license. This is something
upstream has to explicitly change, there is nothing we can do about it
ourselves (short of repackaging the tarball to throw out the firmware).

[Bug 132641] Default games only represent few game types

2007-08-15 Thread Duncan Lithgow
Public bug reported:

--== Do not use this bug report to discuss which games are best ==--

Ubuntu strives to include 'best of category' GNU software, but in the
games menu it only represents one or two types of game. I think it
should include a 'best of' for each different genre of computer game. I
know there are many excellent games out there from different genre which
are GNU licensed and would be great in Ubuntu. The current selection
seems like an extension of MS's set of bundled games.

The wikipedia article lists these main genre:

1.1 Action games
1.2 Adventure
1.3 Fighting
1.4 Role-playing games
1.5 Platform games
1.6 Simulation games
1.7 Sports
1.8 Strategy

Using that list I can only see strategy represented in Ubuntu.

So:

a.) Why is it like this?
b.) What could be done to change it?
c.) What's the first step to getting a wider selection of games in Ubuntu?

Version: 0.9.1+20060806-3
Depends: python, gcc, make, binutils, ccache
Suggests: distcc
Size: 33170
Description: Compilation controller
The ccontrol program takes over the roles of the compiler, linker and
make, and reads a configuration file to decide what to do before
invoking them. This is particularly useful for centralized control over
commands and options, such as enabling distcc and ccache. It is also
great for controlling parallelism and which compiler versions to use,
based on the directory and make targets.

Does it help?

[Bug 50430] Re: NIS has problems starting before the network comes up

2007-08-15 Thread Dag-Erling Smørgrav
One thing that just occurred to me, could this be caused by
interoperability issues between NetworkManager and the specific NIC
driver being used (tg3 in my case), as in this report of a similar
problem which was fixed by switching drivers: https://bugs.launchpad.net
/network-manager/+bug/38586

[Bug 128850] Re: firefox hangs before GUI is shown

2007-08-15 Thread glenner
Hi,

i have been able to use firefox a few times without any problems however now
i'm having the exact same problem again. I don't remember changing anything
which could be related to this.
Is there something else i need to try? Do you need more information?

thanks!

[Bug 131163] Re: wrong Dutch translation

2007-08-15 Thread Vincent van Adrighem
Corrected the correction. The sentence was far too Englishy. No Dutch person
would ever say it that way. New translation:

[Bug 50430] Re: NIS has problems starting before the network comes up

2007-08-15 Thread Dag-Erling Smørgrav
Once again, this is *not* a NIS problem, it is a NetworkManager problem
that affects far more than NIS. I do not have -no-dbus in
/etc/default/nis.

Re: [Bug 85488] Re: some usb_devices fault if usb_suspend enabled

2007-08-15 Thread Hans van Esdonk
Andrej,

I have the same problem with my BenQ (=Acer) scanner.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sane-
backends/+bug/85488/comments/40

works for me, but not always..

Sometimes it looks if nothing happens and then, after a while (5-10
minutes) the scanner starts!!! I'm using xsane scanner program.

Good luck

Hans

[Bug 132635] delete from font path not working

2007-08-15 Thread Wousser
Public bug reported:

I get the following warning in my xorg log file:
(WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/X11/cyrillic" does not exist.
Entry deleted from font path.

Thats right, if I go to the directory there is no map cyrillic.

Xorg tries to set the font path without cirillic but thats not working.

(**) FontPath set to:
/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc,
/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/:unscaled,
/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/:unscaled,
/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1,

the font cyrillic is still in the list and it looks like the list is printed
twice.
Can anyone confirm this, I found nothing on launchpad or xorg bugtracker.
Thanks.

[Bug 132630] Package PySms for universe

2007-08-15 Thread Andreas Maechler
Public bug reported:

PySms is a text messenger for various swiss provider that I wrote.
Though I have already built a package (available on sourceforge:
http://pysms.sourceforge.net) it probably isn't good enough (the
package) for being added to the ubuntu universe. It would be great if
some MOTU or swiss ubuntu person could review it, so that PySms could be
found in the universe repositries soon.

[Bug 132633] Video playback is horizontally stretched for GMA965 (X3100)

2007-08-15 Thread Julian Edwards
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I am using Kubuntu Feisty but with a backported Gutsy driver
(2.1.0-1ubuntu1) because the Feisty-shipped one is unusable on my Dell
D630.

Playing any videos in any player (kaffeine, mplayer etc) results in the
video being stretched horizontally. It looks like it's applying a 4:3
to 16:9 correction wrongly because the screen is already 16:9.
