[Bug 89595] Re: failure while starting a maintenance shell

2007-09-06 Thread beefcurry
I confirm this, it still exists on Gutsy Gibbon (as of now Tribe 5).
This was fsck'ing a drive mounted as /media/sda4 as ext3. fsck fails
every time on this, therefore it could be another bug as well. However
one behaviour of this bug is that It does not seem to locate any
packages at all. It recommends installing it through sudo apt-get
install less however it fails to find both the sudo and apt packages.

[Bug 137792] displayconfig-gtk recognizes the correct resolution but uses 640x480 instead

2007-09-06 Thread unggnu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: displayconfig-gtk

Displayconfig-gtk recognizes and shows the correct resolution but if I
change driver or something like that and then accept with Ok
displayconfig-gtk adds this modeline [EMAIL PROTECTED] 25.2 640 656 752 800
480 490 492 525 -vsync -hsync to monitor section and changes
Screen\Display section to use the 640x480 mode. Even the new new Intel
driver which works fine without xorg resolutions uses 640x480 after this
changes.

[Bug 136302] Re: Sylpheed POP3 Format String Vulnerability

2007-09-06 Thread Cesare Tirabassi
There is no mention in your references about the code change. The only
valid reference is the one given in comment #10 above, which concerns
the function:

alertpanel_error_log

which is used in sylpheed-claws and sylpheed-claws-gtk2

not the function:

alertpanel_error

which is used in sylpheed.

Without a reliable reference (as asked by the security advisor above
already) to the code change we cannot proceed.

[Bug 135783] Re: Superscript/Subscript buttons have no effect

2007-09-06 Thread rfdparker2002
I can can confirm this on Gutsy on a Lenovo 3000 N100 (which has been
upgraded). It seems also affect the right click menu on text (right
click -- Style -- Superscript/Subscript), as well as tool bar buttons
(but still works via Format -- Character... method) across all
OpenOffice.org applications. This needs fixing SERIOUSLY before Gutsy is
released as it will have a seriusly adverse effect on use/opinions of
Ubuntu in places such as school where, for instance, superscript is
often used for squaring or cubing numbers in mathematics.

[Bug 78559] Re: python-qt crashes

2007-09-06 Thread Stéphane Bugat
Strange behaviour... It's been a long time since I tested our application.
Following your comment, I just tried right now and it works, although I have
the same warning :

  Major opcode: 148
  Minor opcode: 3
  Resource id: 0x0
Failed to open device
X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 170

Key point: as I had a AMD64 processor I decided to move to a 64-bits
Feisty Fawn Ubuntu distribution... So you seem to be right: this bug is
no longer included in python-sip4 v4.5 at least!

Thanx

[Bug 94161] Re: Shutdown problem in Dell Inspiron E1505

2007-09-06 Thread Jon Anderson
I followed the procedure at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend... I now have a bunch of
/var/log files that show being edited in AD 1916, but there's also
something that looks useful:

[2.032000] Magic number: 7:951:842
[2.032000] hash matches device ptyu8
[2.032000] hash matches device ptyrb

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend says that I should rmmod
the second driver (ptyrb), but lsmod | grep pty shows absolutely
nothing.

I'll try suspend/resume with ptyrb in /etc/default/acpi-support's
MODULES list.

Is there anything else I can do that might help?

[Bug 136302] Re: Sylpheed POP3 Format String Vulnerability

2007-09-06 Thread Adna rim
Again take a look at the differnce between 2.4.4 and 2.4.5 which was
just a security fix. The secunia advisorie tells the bug is in inc.c and
if you compare the versions 2.4.4 and 2.4.5 you see:

$diff sylpheed-2.4.4/src/inc.c sylpheed-2.4.5/src/inc.c
1367c1367
 alertpanel_error(err_msg);
---
 alertpanel_error(%s, err_msg);

So the author of sylpheed himself fixed this bug exaclty on this location in
this way, so I think that more than a reliable reference and the error in
sylpheed is in alertpanel_error and not alertpanel_error_log.

2007-09-06 Thread Barry deFreese

Hello,

In Feisty Apache went from 2.0 to 2.2 causing mod-cband to fail to work.
A simple rebuild should fix the issue.

[Bug 130511] Re: Gusty updates broke my wireless connectivity

2007-09-06 Thread Andrew Callender
Hardware: BCM4306, rev 02

Using the bcm43xx driver, *not* ndiswrapper. Kernel package is
2.6.22-10 (all updates applied as of this morning, although it broke a
couple weeks ago). The correct firmware is definitely installed in
/lib/firmware and nowhere else.

Problem: I can see networks to connect to (using e.g. KNetworkManager).
Trying to connect fails; for instance, again using KNetworkManager, it
stops at 57% complete Activation Stage: IP configuration started.

From bug#124159 (Broadcom bcm43xx Wireless driver regression in
gutsy), it looks like a connection *can* be made (using the bcm43xx
drivers in the current kernel), but the throughput is very low and
strongly dependent on distance/signal strength - so perhaps I'm simply
too far away. Of course, then it works out as bcm43xx hardware can't
connect to anything farther than 5 feet away, which is still pretty
broken...

dmesg shows repeated error messages:
[   29.036000] bcm43xx: TODO: Incomplete code in keymac_write() at
/build/buildd/linux-source-2.6.22-2.6.22/drivers/net/wireless/bcm43xx/bcm43xx_main.c:1112

(and also at line 1114). (Yes, the full output of dmesg, as well as
version_signature, lspci -vvnn, and uname -a, is all attached.)

Looking at the source confirms this - that bit of keymac_write() really
is just a stub. That function is exactly the same in the 2.6.20 source
(package 2.6.20-16.31 from feisty).

So I guess this turned out to be a me too and/or a bump.

Re: [Bug 137779] Dapper Server: Postfix dependency on emacs?

2007-09-06 Thread Andrew Glen-Young
Thanks for the fast response. I really should have tried 'apt-get'
before filing.

$ sudo apt-get -s install postfix
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Suggested packages:
  procmail postfix-mysql postfix-pgsql postfix-ldap postfix-pcre sasl2-bin
Recommended packages:
  mail-reader resolvconf
The following NEW packages will be installed
  postfix
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Inst postfix (2.2.10-1ubuntu0.1 Ubuntu:6.06/dapper-security)
Conf postfix (2.2.10-1ubuntu0.1 Ubuntu:6.06/dapper-security)

Looks good as a quick fix. Is aptitude being more aggressive and
including the 'mail-reader' package for some reason?

I believe that aptitude is the preferred method for installing
packages (on Debian and Ubuntu) and this makes me more than a little
worried about other packages I have installed and may install in
future.

Regards.

[Bug 137758] Re: nvidia-glx-new installs 386 kernel

2007-09-06 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
mewt:
I've had a look but I can't find the bug (if there ever was one) where this was
mentioned in detail (Martin PItt briefly mentions the issue in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20/+bug/99122/comments/5
). Basically because there is more than one linux-restricted package which can
satisfy an install for nvidia-glx apt basically fell back to the wrong one. You
would have already needed the correct linux-restricted-modules to have already
been installed (which is generally the case unless you manually uninstall it)
for it to guess correctly.

As a side note you may find that your system fails to keep the NVIDIA
module up to date with kernel updates due to missing meta packages.

[Bug 137779] Re: Dapper Server: Postfix dependency on emacs?

2007-09-06 Thread Scott Kitterman
Aptitude install recommends packages by default (IIRC). If that's what
you want, then use Aptitude. In any case there is not postfix bug here.
The actual recommends that was triggering that is mail-reader. If, for
example, you have Mutt installed, it would have satisfied that. Having
mail-reader as a recommends is quite reasonable I believe.

[Bug 137743] Re: gnome-session: Refusing to initialize GTK+

2007-09-06 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
I believe it is a change in Gutsy that means if you install XGL it will
be automatically started and is known to cause issues for people
upgrading who made their own tweaks to get XGL going (because it will
now be started twice). This probably means this bug is a duplicate of

[Bug 128521] Re: GNOME applications delay to start

2007-09-06 Thread astupidog
I also encountered this bug. It is extremely annoying and difficult to
find the fix to it.

Besides delay when opening applications from the gnome menus/desktop, I
also had long delays when openning the midnight commander from terminal
or just the midnight commander editor (mcedit), some strange delays /
random freezes while editing messages in Evolution - all fixed when I
added the hostname back to the hosts file.

All this started when I was trying to get samba to work, so I guess I
added the workgroup in the network-admin, however I wasn't able to
reproduce the bug this way again.

Anyway, it's very easy to reproduce the bug by simply deleting your
hostname from the hosts file.
