[Bug 116274] Re: [feisty] no currently active network device, won't activate VPN

2007-09-18 Thread JonPastore
Also have this problem.

would updating the driver help? I have Dell M90 with the intel chip. I
could probably switch out to a broadcom if I had to.

Is this a network manager problem? or a driver issue? I read somewhere
that someone was able to turn on ndiswrapper and get it working. I
followed the steps he posted online and got nowhere.

This seems to be something people are complaining about in many forums.
I think this needs to be a high priority bug. This is critical to users
outside the US who need to PPTP to their isp for internet access and
need to so over their wifi and corp. users (like myself) who need it for
work.

[Bug 139045] Re: Slow suspend on various Toshiba laptops

2007-09-18 Thread Peter Schwenke
It appears that the case varies for the Product Name returned by dmidecode
for different models of the U200. This is for the case Satellite U200.
My previous patch has SATELLITE U200.

In the version of this bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/90771
2 dmidecodes have been submitted which conform this.

I applied the patch referred to in

verified as working in the Feisty port of the patch for this bug (again

My apologies for my absense. I've had a similar [Feisty] Firefox bug

report it. Right now my results are:

1. I get the freeze up when I use the system. Usually I literally need
to reboot when this happens because the entire computer is frozen up.
My hardware is an older Toshiba Satellite laptop with the fan out ;^):

2. When I move the plugins to a different directory, I do not get any
prompting for re-downloading the plugin.

[Bug 134476] Re: Tribe 5: suspend hangs laptop

Same thing here (probably)
Asus a9rp (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/AsusA9RP) and it used to
wrk perfectly under feisty. Have not worked during the last upgrades in gutsy.

Symptoms: Suspend to ram gives a black screen with a blinking underline
in the left upper corner of the screen and a blinking light indicating
that caps lock is turned on-off-on-off rapidly (Which it is of
course not.) Suspend to disk just blankens the screen and then starts
over back into gnome.

I'll attack my outputs as well.

well, as I suggested, given the significance of the bugs (and the fact
that gimmie is hardly a heavily-developed app with a long history of
stability to lose), it may make more sense simply to push 0.2.7 as an
update for your stable releases than try to patch 0.2.4. That would
depend on how strict your update policy is, though, I guess.

2007-09-18 Thread Daniel Holbach
I wouldn't fix it. It's a substitution variable that is used by things
like dh_gconf. In most cases it is not used at all, but what if upstream
decides to add gconf schemas to the release or other scenario. Lots of
packages have this Depends by default and they all get substituted by
useful things when they are needed.

I wouldn't drop it for a cosmetic reason.

[Bug 140583] Re: [gutsy] GNOME terminal has inhumanly small font (estimated point size about 0.2)

2007-09-18 Thread LGB [Gábor Lénárt]
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 140540 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/140540

I've got this bug too since updating the system to be up-to-date gutsy
from the state of yesterday. When trying to resize the window of gnome-
terminal it reportes the same resolution as xwininfo reports, so I
assume it tries to use 1 pixel sized font? I try to play with font
settings in profile editor (both of 'Use the system fixed width font'
and my own font selections) but it does not help. Other X terminal apps
work, like xterm or rxvt. Opening new terminal sometimes result in very
large wide window, metacity cannot even decorate without borders etc ...

I guess it's not a global font handling problem since every other
applications work perfectly.

A screenshot on a gnome-terminal window is attached, Midnight Commander
is running inside it.

This is gnome-terminal from package versioned 2.18.1-1ubuntu2, i386
gutsy.

[Bug 139970] Re: [Gutsy] nm-applet no longer displays 'connecting' animated icons

2007-09-18 Thread Typhoe
This morning I tried to reboot my computer (old behavior lasting from
windows OS ;) ) and the problem was still there.

I saw there was new package updates (connecting with the Ethernet cable)
and decided to apply them.

I then unplugged my cable and rebooted one more time my system.

And Network-manager is working again for me ! But there was no update
for its package that I saw in this morning updates...

So, so far, I can't say what was exactly the origin of my problem... I
won't create another bug report as the problem is not anymore.

Thank you anyway.

[Bug 88152] Re: [nvidia-glx] Switch user/switch VT causes lockup with compiz/beryl/desktop-effects

2007-09-18 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Regarding the One X per GPU comment: It is not 100% clear whether that
comment only covers running two X servers simultaneously off the same
GPU (e.g. one card running two different X servers on two different
monitors simultaneously) or whether that covers the user switching
scenario too (two X servers on the same GPU but not not necessarily
changing the screen the same time but rather co-operatively). Someone
will have to explicitly ask NVIDIA what that statement does and doesn't
cover (ideally with examples).

If NVIDIA indicate that the later case is not supported (and can say
why) and they do not wish to hear about issues arising from it, then I
would recommend a new bug report be created separately from this. That
way VT switching issues are kept separate and people having user
switching issues on the NVIDIA binary only drivers are at least informed
about its situation.

[Bug 140624] when i start wincfg or wine , xorg crashes and back to login window

2007-09-18 Thread lionkingfly
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I am a Chinese collage student , my system is Ubuntu gusty upgrade from Ubuntu
feisty. My pc is using NVIDIA card, and using latest card driver
(NVIDIA-Linux-x86-100.14.11-pkg1.run).I has reinstalled it,because its glx
module seems conflict with xserver-xgl.But i cannot log into desktop,so I add
the file ~/.config/xserver-xgl/disable.
but it doesn't work fine. So i have to look at file add with gusty to make xgl
autostart,such as
/etc/X11//Xsession.d/98xserver-xgl_start-server,/usr/share/xserver-xgl/Xgl-session
 and so on.
I cannot understand all ,but i can get some information.,because I haven't
learned bash script.

finally,i remove the file 98xserver-xgl_start-server,so that xgl can't
autostart. It works. haha!

But when i start wincfg or wine ,xorg crashes and back to login window.

My english is not good,I am not sure i have discripe in all.I hopes you
can understand!

[Bug 135141] Re: Gutsy: Intel should be preferred over 810

2007-09-18 Thread Franck
Well, saying the xv problem is solved is quite optimistic...
The workaround the said patch implements is _not to use_ xv but gl instead. So
it kind of solves the problem for totem when using gstreamer, but in no way
does it solve the problem with intel + xv. Just try any other video player, and
you'll see it (say vlc for example) !

Or am I missing something ?

[Bug 103210] Re: ipw3945 Wifi connection is very slow

2007-09-18 Thread Ketil Malde

Me three.

Dell C620 with ipw3945, lots of packets dropped, note the Invalid misc
and RX dropped in the information below. (Checks to see nobody is
listening:) As things seem to be much better connecting to my neighbor's
unprotected LAN (SpeedTouch ADSL with wireless, I think), I tried
disabling WEP, but it doesn't help against my router (Billionton el-
cheapo model).

There appears to be an abundance of people reporting similar problems,
but the only fix I've seen so far is to replace the router and/or the
wifi card.

  http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?t=525300
  http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-506271.html
  http://osdir.com/ml/drivers.ipw3945.devel/2006-11/msg00025.html

Here's the relevant output. It seems pretty clear that invalid misc
wifi packets in turn become RX dropped packets on the eth1 interface
(closely correlated numbers). The enourmous packet drop rate means that
web pages load extremely slowly, and often fail entirey. Other
computers work against this router, and mine work against others (at
least better than this), so my guess is some sort of incompatibility.

[Bug 139686] Re: Pidgin 2.2.0 in Gutsy

2007-09-18 Thread Caspar Clemens Mierau
Thanks Flávio for providing the binary. Until now it runs without
crashes for me. I will continue testing.

Can you please check #52801? In my eyes proxy settings is still an issue
in pidgin under ubuntu.

In the windows version you have a global pidgin setting allowing you to
set a proxy/noproxy setting for *all* procotolls and to override it with
every account setting. In the ubuntu or maybe linux version you have to
set it for each protocol - the global dialog boxes are just missing. You
can try to mess around with the Gnome proxy settings but that is still
buggy. So my question: Would it be possible to enable this dialogue in
2.2.0?

I will attach two screenshots showing the differences.

[Bug 140625] Terminal window became graphically corrupt

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Hi,

I've just done a clean install of gutsy tribe 5, but with an existing /home
partition from 7.04.
At first the terminal worked but after installing some packages (don't know
which one, I installed a lot) the terminal became corrupt.
The terminal window, when run, shows up as a very short very wide window with
parts that don't appear.
It is also impossible to click on any buttons, I could only close it by hitting
Alt+F4.
This currently happens every time I click on the terminal icon.

Thanks.

that's acceptable to the packaging gods though.

[Bug 140540] Re: [Gutsy update] Gnome application font sizes too small to read

2007-09-18 Thread Heiko
I've the problem too since the last Update on Sep 18th morning.
gconftool-2 --get /desktop/gnome/font_rendering/dpi gives me 96:
~$ gconftool-2 --get /desktop/gnome/font_rendering/dpi
96

gconftool --type float --set /desktop/gnome/font_rendering/dpi 96
solves this issue. I think that the right value but wrong type is set for this
gconf entry. (May be it is set to int and not float or so.
