[Bug 147463] Booting into tty1 instead of tty7
Public bug reported: Installed Gutsy yesterday on my E1505n (which came direct from Dell with Ubuntu on it). After installing and reboot the default tty is 1 instead of 7. I have to do a ctrl-alt-7, to get to the Desktop. I also get an oem-config-dm error on tty1 and a Xserver failed to start error. oem-config doesn't seem to be running but Xserver is up and running. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Booting into tty1 instead of tty7 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147463 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 147464] Heavy network activity (torrent/nfs file transfers) causes Hard System Locks and/or Network Freezes.
Public bug reported: Simply downloading a torrent at high speed (speed caps mitigate this somewhat) or transferring large files at high data rates over a network (for instance transfering files to NFS mounts as some users have reported) for any period of time longer than a few minutes may cause one of two conditions to occur: 1) The system Hard Locks (no i/o response from keyboard or mouse and the display manager freezes) and needs a hard reboot. 2) The network connection freezes, but still identifies itself as having a signal and being connected. The only way I could determine to fix this was to soft-reboot the system. This is basically a complete show-stopper bug as these are common activities. [Bug 22930] Re: Newly-sensitive button ignores clicks until cursor re-enters it
Looks as though this bug has been around since 2001. Sadly it retains an upstream priority of normal which ignores the very serious impact it has on Ubuntu first impressions and greatly highlights one of the problems with FOSS. Given what has been a very poor track record on this bug why doesnt Canonical do a workaround for this bug so the installer atleast is not effected. I noticed the following in the upstream bug discussion: For what it's worth, developers can work around this bug by simply hiding/showing the button after they make the button sensitive again. This will too fast for the user to see, and it will allow them to click the button without moving their mouse from the button. -- Newly-sensitive button ignores clicks until cursor re-enters it https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/22930 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 147354] Re: Outstanding bugs in Gutsy Beta
Thanks for the advice. I will start posting the 100 bugs in Gutsy one at a time. *sigh* Off I go to Launchpad! rhY Thank you for your comments, and for trying to help make Ubuntu better. However, these reports are not useful in their current state. Bug reports really should have 1 bug per report - that way we can easily assign the bug report to the appropriate place, and monitor it's progress. Furthermore, the issues you raise don't have sufficient detail for someone to fix them at this point. To address some of your problems: (1) It seems that you have installed the xserver-xgl package. This means that you will be using the Xgl server, and so glxinfo will return direct rendering: no. This is not a bug, and does not indicate that you don't have 3d acceleration. Wine does not detect the available 3d acceleration under Xgl. This is a bug in wine, and sadly the wine developers aren't very interested in fixing it. There does seem to be an Xgl bug here, though, since 3D performance under Xgl should not be significantly worse than under standard Xorg. Could you please file a bug against the xserver-xgl package, with information about your 3d card and driver setup? https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xgl/+filebug (2) MP3 encoding technology is patented, and these patents are actively enforced; we cannot include this out of the box. (3) I have no experience of, sorry. (4) There is a camera wizard when cameras are plugged in. That you didn't see one suggests that your camera is not yet supported. Could you please file a bug with the details of your camera? (5) Is possibly a consequence of (1), at least the Wine part. Problems with the various emulators should be filed as bugs against the packages they come in. (6) Again, bugs in compiz should be filed against the compiz package https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+filebug. This seems to be a problem with your setup, however, becuase it *should* work :) Since it is not possible to use this bug as it is written, I'm marking it as invalid. This doesn't mean that I'm dismissing your problems, just that, as they are presented here, it is not possible to fix them. If you need any help in filing a bug report that we will be able to use, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs, ask in #ubuntu-bugs on IRC, or ask in another comment to this bug. ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New = Invalid -- Outstanding bugs in Gutsy Beta https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147354 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Olivier, what part of the packaging process are you having trouble with? I have put together an *experimental* package (one of my first too, definitely *not* done in the right way :-) ). Try at your own risk! At the very least you should: a) be running feisty on amd64 with kernel 2.6.20-16-generic (I haven't made other versions yet). b) have completely removed acer_acpi in case it was manually installed. c) have backed-up /etc/modules (the package is supposed to do that automatically but you never know...) and know how to restore it in an installation that doesn't boot. d) feel comfortable with removing the package manually in case it refuses to uninstall on its own. This shouldn't happen but if it does you may have to edit /var/lib/dpkg/info/acer-acpi*.(post|pre)rm. [Bug 147474] Can't upload files to flash website
Public bug reported: The problem is noticed on http://www.rsizr.com/ and after filing a bug report with the site owner, he tested some Linux flash versions and concluded that the problem is with the 9.0.48.0 version that Ubuntu (Gutsy and Feisty, at least) is using. [Bug 145887] Re: Gutsy Beta: Tablet Notebook's Stylus Not Working
I can confirm this on an Acer Travelmate C200. The stylus worked very well out-of-the box on Feisty and the Gutsy Tribes (LiveCDs and installed systems). But with the new Gutsy Beta it neither works with the LiveCD nor with the installed system. The reason are the following commented lines in xorg.conf: Section ServerLayout Identifier Default Layout screen Default Screen Inputdevice Generic Keyboard Inputdevice Configured Mouse # Uncomment if you have a wacom tablet # InputDevice stylusSendCoreEvents # InputDevice cursorSendCoreEvents # InputDevice eraserSendCoreEvents Inputdevice Synaptics Touchpad EndSection When you uncomment them it works again. [Bug 129500] Re: APIC error on CPU0: 40(40) followeb by CAPS LOCK LED STARTS BLINKING AND THE NOTEBOOK CRASH
I have had none of the APIC error on CPU0: 40(40) messages in my dmesg log since my last posting. However, I did continue to get the crashes more and more frequently (the blinking caps lock light). I had installed kdm, and was running the kde desktop sometime before all this happened. One day, after I decided to run GNOME, and I did not have the problems. However, due to a problem, that I am not sure about, I could not reconfigure GDM to be my default desktop manager (there are numerous postings about this, such as http://ircarchive.info/kubuntu/2007/3/18/124.html ), where I get the invoke-rc.d: initscript gdm, action reload failed. message, and even if I double checked that sudo dpkg --configure kdm or gdm was good. Anyhow, I no longer get the crashes, so I believe the issue for me, with the blinking caps lock light where my computer freezes, was associated with the KDE desktop somehow. Since I had complete freezes, and it could not log the error in dmesg, I have no idea where the crash was coming from. Since I reinstalled Ubuntu, and have not reinstalled KDE, I have had no problems whatsoever with either the CPU0: 40(40) flood or the blinking caps lock crash. Please note that both bennyatc and I have AMD64 Athlon CPU's, and we both have ATI Radeon Mobility Video cards (although his is a X700 and mine is a Xpress 200M). I'm sorry I cannot give more specific information as to what exact program was causing the crashes. Thank you very much for the assistance you have provided thus far. [Bug 147495] (Gutsy?) Gnome keyboard layout switcher (Dvorak-Qwerty) not fully monotonic (fails on ^D, ^E)
Public bug reported: I'm running the latest (as of 20:00EST 30Sep07) Gutsy build on an IBM Thinkpad T40. I use a software-mapped Dvorak keyboard, and switch to QWERTY when I want to play nethack, which is where I first noticed this bug. It seems to effect all terminal applications, and may effect others as well. In short, software-mapping to Dvorak, and then switching back to Qwerty, doesn't fully remap the keyboard, and while I haven't exhaustively examined every key combination to see what doesn't get remapped, the ones I've found are pretty annoying. Reproduction: Create a new, clean user. Go to System/Preferences/Keyboard. Layouts tab. Keyboard model: Generic 101-key PC (not sure if this is important) Press Add Layout: U.S. English Variant: Dvorak Press Add Now drag U.S. English Dvorak above U.S. English in the keyboard layout list. It's the new default. Press Close. Now, add the Keyboard Indicator to one of your panels. Log out. Log in. The keyboard indicator should say USA, and if you open a terminal and strike left-to-right along the home row with your left hand, you should read aoeu. Hit ^a^k to kill this line. Click on the keyboard indicator. It now says USA2. When you type along the home row again, you should see the familiar asdf. Here's where you should see breakage: Hit ^A. The cursor will jump under the 'a'. Hit ^e. Where it should jump to the end of the line, you'll probably see it insert a dot, or some other nonsense. Hit ^d, and you'll see the cursor jump to the end of the line. So clearly, everything's getting swapped in the remap back to Qwerty except ^D and ^E, which are still in their Dvorak positions. I don't know whse fault this is. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- (Gutsy?)
