[Bug 147210] New upstream version available 1.2.2

2007-09-30 Thread Nicolas Nobelis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcstar

Hi,

Feisty and Gutsy have the version 1.1.1 of gcstar. Several new versions
of the software have be made available, the last one being 1.2.2
(http://www.gcstar.org/index.en.php).

I have downloaded a binary .tar.bz of the 1.2.2 version from this
website, and it work like a charm in Feisty.

Would it be possible to have this newer version in Ubuntu ?

Regards
N.

[Bug 147199] Re: previous linux security update fixed my ipw2100, but last one broke it again

2007-09-30 Thread vashik
More information about freezing: there are 2 different types of messages
in syslog:

1. kernel: [ 856.828000] ipw2100: Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.
2. kernel: [ 8556.332000] NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth1: transmit timed out

The first one is well known and I thought that it is inevitable.
Second one sometimes follows the freezing without the first message and after
the second message transmission is restored.

I was happy with 2.6.20-16.31 because it fixed both problems, but
2.6.20-16.32 returned them back.

[Bug 146990] Re: [Gusty] can't get my wired connection to work with Xubuntu

2007-09-30 Thread vonHalenbach
Thank you for testing Xubuntu Gutsy!

What does the command ifconfig and dmesg say? I know it is a live cd and
therefore it may be very difficult for you to put this information here. I just
want to know if ifconfig shows at least a device called eth0. Look if it is
there. If it is not, then look what the command dmesg says in a terminal. Look
for messages like this:
[ 39.057016] eth0: RealTek RTL8139 at 0xd4858000, 00:50:ba:b4:81:68, IRQ 10
[ 39.057023] eth0: Identified 8139 chip type 'RTL-8139C'

This means my network adaptor is found.

Do you maybe use a DSL-connection? then you may want to configure your
connection with the command pppoeconf

To open a terminal press on the middle button of your mouse and select
terminal.

I cannot write to my CDRW, mount NFS shares, view my /media folder via

with multiple copies of kded, and much of my desktop acts very bizarre
overall (too many things to list here).

I rebooted and reverted back to the prior kernel (2.6.20-15-generic),
and everything is fixed. It seems that the 2.6.20-16-generic kernel was
responsible for turning my system into a big mess.

zu_ZA

Does not show:
en_GB
es_ES, es_MX
fr_FR, fr_CA
it_IT, it_CH

[Bug 141146] Re: DPI is set incorrectly by new driver, even when DisplaySize is set in xorg.conf

2007-09-30 Thread Rudd-O
I have the same problem. Here is my xdpyinfo output AFTER setting
xrandr --dpi 125

screen #0:
  dimensions:1280x900 pixels (260x182 millimeters)
  resolution:125x126 dots per inch
  depths (7):24, 1, 4, 8, 15, 16, 32
  root window id:0x54
  depth of root window:24 planes
  number of colormaps:minimum 1, maximum 1
  default colormap:0x20
  default number of colormap cells:256
  preallocated pixels:black 0, white 16777215
  options:backing-store NO, save-unders NO

it's REALLY screwed up, and Kaffeine refuses to play video except for a
sliver, since the original resolution calls for something like 32000 DPI
vertically multiplied by 80 horizontally or something.

To be perfectly clear: for some reason DDC EDID retrievals retrieve the
RIGHT Display Size from the monitor, yet X seems to munge it somehow.
If I specify a manual DisplaySize, the log shows that X picks the manual
size up, nonetheless the DPI gets absurdly distorted (121x188 or
something, when it should be more like 121x122).

Please help!

[Bug 114427] Re: hald hangs when started

2007-09-30 Thread Michael Ummels
So I figured out that I still have the problem. Though, the system
boots up quickly, hal is not responding. Indeed, if I start hald in
verbose mode, I still get the message [W] device_info.c:984: Unhandled
rule (0)! repeated indefinitely. Without hal, I cannot do suspend,
standby or automount. Also, if I deinstall libgphoto2-2 the problem
persists, so I think this unrelated with gphoto. Anybody has an idea how
I can narrow down the problem?

[Bug 147230] Workspace switching via touchpad works badly

2007-09-30 Thread Jon Leighton
Public bug reported:

With desktop effects enabled I can switch to a different workspace by
scrolling my mouse wheel when on the desktop - each click of the mouse
wheel goes to a new workspace, in a continuous circle. When using my
touchpad, touching the right hand side of it emulates a mouse wheel. The
difference is that the touchpad's mouse wheel doesn't have clicks.
This means that when I switch workspace, it is very difficult to go to
exactly the one I want using the touchpad as it will often detect
multiple clicks and I can end up back on the one I was on.

One way to alleviate this might be to no switch workspaces in a circle,
but to only switch up to the last one in one direction - to get back
from that the user would have to scroll the other way. This would solve
my problem was I only have two workspaces, but if a user had four
workspaces it would still be difficult to get to numbers 2 and 3. Maybe
the touchpad just needs to be less sensitive?

[Bug 147228] icons on tool bars are located in the wrong place on Gutsy Beta

2007-09-30 Thread Mark
Public bug reported:

After installing Gutsy beta and installing the nvidia driver, the icon
location on the taskbars are incorrect. The log off icon is not in
the corner along with everything to the left of it. Instead, the user
switcher is on the far right.

On the bottom, the trash icon is like 5 inches from the right corner.
The desktop switcher is in the corner.

[Bug 147220] Re: [gutsy] gdm restarts X server over and over again if x server fails to start

2007-09-30 Thread pixl
No I used envy to setup my graphics drivers and nvidia-settings to set
up xorg.conf. Screen and Graphics Preferences (displayconfig-gtk) does
not work for me at all, it only shows 640x480 mode even though I have
defined 1280x800 in my xorg.conf.

Re: [Bug 147017] Re: [gutsy] trackerd vs. strigidaemon

2007-09-30 Thread Michael Biebl
It's the file
/usr/share/autostart/trackerd.desktop

which autostarts trackerd for kde and

/etc/xdg/autostart/trackerd.desktop

which autostarts trackerd for GNOME/XFCE.

If Ubuntu doesn't want to autostart trackerd for KDE, simply remove
the former file from debian/tracker.install.

[Bug 147242] 7.10 beta screen resolution

2007-09-30 Thread nakulpal
Public bug reported:

7.10 beta has problem with screen resolution
on installing live cd splash screen looks magnified out of place
after installing everything works
nvida propitiatory driver works but the resolution of 53hz instead of 60 hz
after installing update resolution goes haywire (screen resolution program
keeps on crashing)
this is due to new option wide screen monitor supporting the new resolution
panel which is not enabled by default and plug and play is unable to detect
resolution correctly which it did earlier
but after manual setting everything works but login screen is still not right

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
