[Bug 154491] openoffice.org base crashes when loading robust form
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org-base Background: I recently installed ubuntu 7.10. I had previously developed a robust database in openoffice.org This bug has been present since previous versions of openoffice in ubuntu (7.04 at least). Problem: When trying to load a form which is built upon many queries, and which stems from different tables, openoffice.org base, when trying to run the queries to execute the form, simply takes too long, and suddenly starts coming up with java bugs, telling me that I can't find this or the other primary keys, and it simply seems too much of a form for it to open it in a clean and easy manner. I think it is due to the default JRE openoffice comes with. I ran the same odb file in a suse 10.3 machine and it took it 5 seconds to open the database, with no single error. I'm not sure, but I think it uses a different Java Runtime Environment, which is implicated in the execution of queries. I assume this also because the errors ubuntu openoffice.org base comes up with are like this: the contents of a combo box or list could not be determined. General Error: java.lang.NullPointerException. When trying to open the specific form for several (many) times, it finally loads it with no problems. I assume this is because it somehow loads it in RAM or cache, and can finally execute it after attempting for several times. Something else: If I execute the queries first, and THEN, I try to load the form, it doesn't crash. It takes way more time than in other distros, but it works good. [Bug 154479] kdepim still in version 3.5.7 while KDE 3.5.8 has already been released and (apparently only partly) packaged
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdepim It is probably not right to report this here, but neither is it right, IMHO, to bug Jonathan Riddel via personal e-Mail, so I'll take my chances here. As mentioned [1] KDE 3.5.8 was released a few days ago and apparently most of it has already been packaged for Kubuntu (7.04 and 7.10), for example kdebase [2], kdemultimedia [3] and others. But kdepim [4] still remains in version 3.5.7 (4:3.5.7enterprise20070926-0ubuntu2 to be exact). I highly doubt it was simply forgotten, but on the off chance that it was I hereby issue a reminder :) Version 3.5.8 of kdepim fixes a number of quite critical [5] or inconvenient [6] bugs and I have been waiting for some time now to be able to fully use KMail again on my machine at work. I'd be interested in learning the reason why there is a hold-up with kdepim for Kubuntu (7.10 in my case)? Do I just need to be patient or are there any major showstoppers that are Kubuntu-specific? [Bug 32357] Re: Installer doesn't recognise SATA disks as primary.
I have a mixed SATA / ATA system and same thing happens. During the installation, it seems that the ATA drive was detected as hd0 and grub installed itself there. SATA were hd1, hd2. During the boot, grub detects SATA discs as hd0 and hd1, while ATA is hd2. I fixed it by re-doing the grub-install from the rescue console and editing /boot/grub/menu.lst to change every occurence of hd1 with hd0. Happened to me before, on Ubuntu 7.04. I'm really amazed it didn't get acknowledged/fixed so far. @ Simon Law: The problem is different detection of drives during the installation and after, ie. during the boot of the installed system. If you're feeling particularly adventurous you could build the kernel EDD module. 1. Edit debian/config/*/config matching the PC's architecture e.g: $ sudo sed -i 's/# CONFIG_EDD is not set/CONFIG_EDD=m/' debian/config/*/config 3. Build the kernel package (See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMaintenance) $ fakeroot debian/rules binary-arch 4. Install the edd module (not the entire custom kernel) $ sudo cp drivers/firmware/edd.ko /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/drivers/firmware/ $ sudo depmod -a $ modinfo edd You should see the module's basic details. If you do you can go ahead and load it: $ sudo modprobe edd 5.
