[Bug 19749] Re: SATA HDD not recognized during Breezy Colony 4 install or Dapper Flight 3 or Edgy Eft or Feisty Fawn

2007-10-27 Thread Aaron Waite
Leann, I just finished downloading 7.10 and I'll try to do an install
this weekend. I'm still running a little slow due to my medical
problems, but I promise I WILL do it ASAP! Luckily my aforementioned
homemade keyboard fix has worked on this laptop and after sitting idle
for nearly a year I've been able to keep it busy again lately. I just
need to do some shuffling to make room for a basic Ubuntu install - or
at least an attempt. That should tell us whether or not the modules are
being recognized in the right order or not.

[Bug 157640] [needs-packaging] dragbox

2007-10-27 Thread Murat Güneş
Public bug reported:

http://www.student.lu.se/~cif04usv/wiki/dragbox.html

Dragbox is a tool for connecting the commandline with the desktop
environment. It summons a drag handle from nowhere when you are managing
files or information in a shell, further empowering you in your
workflow.

Dragbox accepts both drags and drops once started, and can be made to
output dragged-to items to the standard output. You can also pipe text
to dragbox, or a list of files using xargs.

[Bug 155497] Re: [Gutsy] Sound stopped working on laptop after hibernate

2007-10-27 Thread Sam
Hello,

It looks like the source of my suspend/hibernation problems (which lead
up to my sound not working) was that I did not designate my swap
partition as such when I reinstalled Feisty in order to do the network
upgrade to Gutsy. I have since reinstalled Feisty again, remembering to
specify the swap partition, and did a network upgrade to Gutsy.
Everything works beautifully for now. Thanks for producing a great OS!

Sam

2007-10-27 Thread Jordan
I have actually already upgraded ( using apt-get dist-upgrade and doing A
LOT of fixing ) but I had to download many packages manually from
packages.ubuntu.com and install them with dpkg -i because they were being
held back, they are still being held back but they are all currently at the
newest version. Sorry if I have made it harder to debug this problem, should
I still remove hpijs and see if those packages are still held back? Here is
the output of apt-get upgrade:

 sudo apt-get upgrade

The following packages have been kept back:
apt aptitude brltty dpkg evince evolution-exchange gdebi gnome-applets

openoffice.org-writer perl perl-base
  python python-software-properties python-support rss-glx ruby1.8serpentine

[Bug 154762] Re: [GUTSY] NetworkManager eating 100% CPU time

2007-10-27 Thread uqbar
Some more details.

First.
The problem seems to arise actually from the interaction between
KNetworkManager (front end) and the NetworkManager
(back end).
The CPU goes 100% when KNetworkManager is not running or has been
killed/closed. This seems to be fixed by restarting the KNetworkManager as
shown by Serkan Hosca.

Second.
While NetworkManager is correctly bringing up my ethernet as required,
KNetworkManager (v0.2) incorrectly says the cable is unplugged.

The problem is still there in Gutsy, (with the MX1000 mouse) and the workaround

refers to hotplug and not to udev.
It would be really helpful to give an hint on what file(s) the permission

Sorry, I didn't notice that the fix is pre-released. It's available in

To get it you should enable gutsy-proposed updates in System

could install it.

[Bug 156555] Re: libgnomeui-common_2.20.1-0ubuntu1 won't install

2007-10-27 Thread Suger
Well, fwiw, here is how I solved the problem

The version I had installed was libgnomeui_common_2.20.0_0ubuntu1. For
some reason, the removal script was trying to do a gconf-schema
/usr/share/gconf/schemas/libgnomeui-apport-gtk.schema. The problem is
that libgnomeui-apport-gtk.schemas has been removed since
libgnomeui-2.19.1-0ubuntu1.

So I downloaded libgnomeui-2.19.0-0ubuntu1, cp'ed libgnomeui-apport-gtk
and all went well. Not very clean, but I didn't find any better way

I still think that having the removal script of
libgnomeui_common_2.20.0_0ubuntu1 looking for a file which didn't exist
anymore since a previous version looks like a bug, but who am I to tell
?

[Bug 157646] Can't use vncviewer if not logged in

2007-10-27 Thread Rich Wales
Public bug reported:

Is there any way to configure a Gutsy desktop so people can connect to
its screen even if no one is logged in on the screen?

I can't do this with vncviewer; it only lets me connect if someone who
permits remote desktop access is already logged in locally.

I need some way of capturing control of the screen when it's showing a
login prompt, in order to do remote management of a host that might need
to be rebooted (or might reboot on its own). I can SSH into the box, of
course, but I would also like to be able to use the GUI.

[Bug 157647] Please sync traceroute-nanog 6.4.2-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2007-10-27 Thread Emmet Hikory
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: traceroute-nanog

Please sync traceroute-nanog 6.4.2-1 (universe) from Debian unstable
(main)

Rationale:
New Upstream version contains many bugfixes
New Debian revision contains all outstanding Ubuntu variations
New Debian revision builds and installs in hardy

Additional Debian Changelog:

traceroute-nanog (6.4.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream version.
  * Added patches:
+ [05_opacket_packed]
Retain changes from version 6.3.10 that seem to have gone lost
  upstream.
+ [40_respect_prohibition]
Honour administratively prohibited destinations. Closes: #425847
  * debian/{postinst,prerm,rules}: Install binary and man page with suffix
.genuine and handle traceroute-nanog names via alternatives as
vanilla traceroute comes with a -nanog flavour as well these days.
Closes: #439447

 -- Daniel Kobras [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu, 11 Oct 2007 00:09:44 +0200

traceroute-nanog (6.3.10-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Added patches:
+ [30_rfc_violating_ttl_fix] New.
Be more lenient in accepting returned packages with bogus TTL field.

[Bug 157650] ATA port freezes randomly

2007-10-27 Thread gwi
Public bug reported:

My system has random freezes, sometimes during boot, sometimes after a few
minutes, sometimes after a few hours. Everytime there are ata port errors like
ata1.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x1c0 action 0x2 frozen (see
logs). I had this with Feisty, but even after a fresh Gutsy install the problem
doesn't disappear.
I tried three different motherboards, two different harddisks, on the current
motherboard two different SATA-controllers.

When the system freezes, I sometimes can continue after a minute or so.
Sometimes I have to reboot using either the reset button or the alt-
sysreq-SUB sequence. Sometimes after a reboot Grub is loading, and the
gives a Read error.

Usually after a fresh install the system runs fine for about two weeks
(only running a few hours a day, then shut down). The frequency of
freezes then increases up to a point where it becomes unuseable.

[Bug 151168] Re: Memory leak in nvidia-glx-new's GL_EXT_texture_from_pixmap

2007-10-27 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
As far as I can tell, you will see this bug on any nVidia card with the
nvidia-glx-new drivers, but only once you've exhausted the onboard
texture memory. So I need to open a *lot* of windows on my 512Mb card
before it starts leaking, but it still does. With 64mb of memory,
you'll hit the limit much faster, but now instead of seeing black
windows, the texture memory for that window will get added to
compiz.real's memory space, and won't be released.

So, having enough more memory will greatly reduce the likelyhood that
you trigger this bug, but cannot eliminate it entirely.

let it try to fix that (add the language-pack-kde-eo stuff), and
restarted the system, but that directory is still empty.

The package that needs to be (fully) installed is:

language-pack-eo

Maybe you need to reinstall it.

 Also try this command:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales

Synaptic reinstalled language-pack-eo, but that made no noticeable
difference. /usr/lib/locale/eo_XX.utf8 is not in the list of installed

I was just noticed this problem on my Gutsy system. I think the
answer's here already but not entirely intuitive. To do a sync now,
you have to go to manual mode and hit synchronize now. I saw my

[Bug 38946] Re: Totem-gstreamer: Aspect ratio not correctly detected

2007-10-27 Thread Eythian
I've just found that gv does the same thing when showing a PDF. So I don't
think it's specifically totem's fault. I'm running with one screen above the
other, and xdpyinfo says:
screen #0:
  dimensions:1280x1568 pixels (625x231 millimeters)
  resolution:52x172 dots per inch

whereas a regular screen says something more like:
screen #0:
  dimensions:1024x768 pixels (347x260 millimeters)
  resolution:75x75 dots per inch

Curiously, xrandr -q gives different measurements in mm:
Screen 0: minimum 1280 x 800, current 1280 x 1568, maximum 2560 x 1568
default connected 1280x1568+0+0 0mm x 0mm
I don't know if this means anything though.

I can't find a quick way of changing the DPI of the monitor (is this
even possible on a running X session?), but it seems to that if I could,
the problem would go away.

[Bug 157652] Booting not possible after installing GutsyGibbon x64 on Q6600 on x38 Mainboard

2007-10-27 Thread bscholz
Public bug reported:

Hi!
When booting GutsyGibbon x64 from Harddisk, it fails right when the kernel
tries to initialise CPU-Cores by ACPI.

I couldn't get a screenshot so the Message might not be totally correct:

Using localACPI

Initializing Core 1/4
not responding

ACPI ID# failed
ACPI ... failed
ACPI ... failed

initializing Core 2/3
not responding

ACPI ID# failed
.
.
.

After enumerating all 4 cores the system reboots without any further
error-message.

I tried all apm, acpi and apic kernel switches but they won't work for
me at all. The surprising thing is that the x64 LiveCD will work
occationally (nearly always). Furthermore it seems that slowing down the
boot process by entering a lot of random kernel parameters which
actually don't exist might get the system to boot properly every once in
a while.

Mainboard: GA-X38-DQ6
Processor: Intel Q6600 G0-stepping
Memory: 4x 1GB G.E.I.L. DDR2-800 CL4

I sure hope this is worse a bug report and somebody can help :(

[Bug 157654] No Belarusian Latin locale generated

2007-10-27 Thread booxter
Public bug reported:

There is a new l10n effort made in Belarusian l10n community - translation of
GNOME and other packages into Belarusian Latin ([EMAIL PROTECTED] locale).
Though even when Byelorussian language is chosed in Language Selector and
appropriate packages with gettext files are installed, there is no [EMAIL
PROTECTED] locale generated and that's why a user can't use this language
variant for Ubuntu UI. After some investigation, I found that to use it a
person should edit /var/lib/locales/supported.d/be to be like that:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /var/lib/locales/supported.d/be
be_BY.UTF-8 UTF-8
[EMAIL PROTECTED] UTF-8
[EMAIL PROTECTED] UTF-8
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$
and then run sudo locale-gen to reflect the changes. This kind of changes
should be done automatically after Byelorussian language is chosen in Language
Selector.
PS: And we should also fix bug #119122 too I think.

[Bug 133712] Re: [Gutsy] Rhythmbox crashes X-Server

Why do you guys ask for bug reports if you don't care? That'll be my

care and just wants me to do the work to fix the bug.

[Bug 114331] Re: xserver starts but display is corrupt

2007-10-27 Thread furry_gizmo
Peter,

Sorry to say that the new driver hasn't solved the problem, however,
there is a slight difference in what happens.

Previously, once the splash screen progress bar reached the end, the
display would go black, the round cursor with the spinning dots would
appear, then after a few seconds the cursor would freeze. The display
would then corrupt. Then after another second or so, the screen would
change to black again then the corruption would re-appear.

This time, everything happens the same with the exception that once the
screen goes black after the initial corruption, it stays black.

I've left the PC running to see if it continues to the login screen, but
it never gets there (you don't hear the login drums).

I've attached another log file for you which seems to have some errors
listed.

I hope this helps.

[Bug 59724] Re: kpdf: zoom level and window size not restored properly

2007-10-27 Thread Jukka Suomela
In Kubuntu 7.10, there are still some problems with the window size.

The following occurs regularly even if I have only one kpdf window:

- The KPDF window is maximised vertically when I log out.

- On the next login, the window is no longer maximised vertically, and
the height of the window is very small.

2007-10-27 Thread Stéphane Loeuillet
The very same error is here with hwdb-send when you try to submit a
non-existing xml file.
If the file doesn't exist, it can't calculate its md5sum, it can't bzip2 it and
it can't rename it
