[Bug 158250] user logs out in multiseat makes other seat lockup

2007-10-29 Thread luis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

When a user logs out of the first seat on a multiseat configuration the second
user session locks up with X consuming 100% CPU. Mouse and keyboard are
unresponsive, kill -15 does not work, only kill -9

problem was present in Feisty as well.

[Bug 156561] Re: Enigmail does not cache passphrase anymore

2007-10-29 Thread Jon V
I've got the same problem. Enigmail worked fine in Feisty but doesn't
remember any passphrases in Gutsy. I'm also using Thunderbird version
2.0.0.6 (20071022) with Enigmail version 0.95.5 (20071027).

gpg seems to get called twice while signing an email, so I get asked for
my passphrase twice for every one I send. Output on the Enigmail console
seems normal:

enigmail /usr/bin/gpg --charset utf8 --batch --no-tty --status-fd 2
--digest-a lgo sha256 -t --clearsign -u addr --use-agent

enigmail /usr/bin/gpg --charset utf8 --batch --no-tty --status-fd 2

[Bug 55150] Re: The headphone jack in the docking station doesn't work

2007-10-29 Thread fisherman783
This still happens; I've got a D610 running Gutsy. Natively, I can get
no sound through the docking station's TRS headphone jack while docked.

There is a fix -
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=370909
Enable the IEC958 checkbox in the ALSA mixer and it starts putting sound out
through the docking station's headphone jack.

[Bug 26338] Re: Adding a user to a group modifies other users' groups and passwords

2007-10-29 Thread andreax
Greetings
yesterday after system disk failure, I reinstalled my Debian box. The default
enviroment was gdm and gnome. So I proceeded to add some user-accounts. After
this and closing the user administration tool rebooted the system to make a
change in boot device priority, in bios screen. After this, and booting in
debian, I noticed that there was a message saying chown: root/admin no souch
group or something like this. This one followed by a ton of other messages
about udev, groups and so on. Logging as the first user, created during
installation, there was a message about the sound server that it was unable to
initialize. I decided to reinstall. Succesfull install was followed by full
install of kde. So I tried to add users with kusers. This time there was no
problem. So I think this is a nasty bug in the user-administration tool of
Gnome solely.
In my system there are two disks. One is system disk and the second is home
disk. I didn't tried to reproduce the problem, but if you want I can send you
detailed system configuration.
Best regards and thank in advance for the permission to post the problem in
your list
Andreas

[Bug 32178] Re: Installer couldn't mount NTFS partitions.

2007-10-29 Thread Tony Yarusso
Also experienced this bug, with the Alternate CD installer of Ubuntu
7.10. At first I thought maybe the NTFS filesystem was corrupted, so we
did a defrag, clean up temporary files, and force CHKDSK, and retried
the Ubuntu install, but with the same results. After about a dozen
attempts with varies things, eventually I decided to say do not use
this partition so we could continue with the installation. After the
system was installed, I checked the blkid and added the appropriate line
in /etc/fstab and it mounted fine, so it seems to be specific to how the
installer uses it.

Sparklehistory - please attach the requested files from your system when
you get a chance.

[Bug 115616] Re: Device-mapper errors: dm-linear, lookup failed

2007-10-29 Thread Manfred Usselmann
In my opinion the only possibility is that these people have explicitly
chosen to not remove obsolete software when asked by the installer.

At least in my case this is simply not true. I did use update-manager
and did agree to remove all absolute packages. There are other reports
above which say the same. But the responsible people seem not to believe
in this and continue to state that we must have done something wrong,
because they can't reproduce the problem. ;-) It obviously does work in
the standard test cases but it looks like that under certain
circumstances evms does not get removed although it should.

The common denominator _seems_ to be that all those systems started with
an earlier version than feisty.

2007-10-29 Thread Artships
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 134712 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/134712

My only problem has been with plugging-in a USB harddrive. Worked in
Edgy. Hasn't worked since. I get a popup from gnome-volume:

'CANNOT MOUNT VOLUME.
Invalid mount option when attempting to mount the volume Mediagate.'

Tried Rashind's solution. Resintalled hal and all the things removing it
removed:
gnome-mount* gnome-power-manager* gnome-session* gnome-volume-manager* hal*
  hal-cups-utils* hal-device-manager* hwdb-client-common* hwdb-client-gnome*
  network-manager* network-manager-gnome* sound-juicer* ubuntu-desktop*
  update-notifier*

Solved the problem of the 'CANNOT MOUNT VOLUME.' Now, nothing happens
when I pug it in.

[Bug 136582] Re: No loading text or usplash when loading

2007-10-29 Thread andrewsomething
Well, when I posted on 2007-10-16 it was recent.

I have not experienced this issue since this update to the Gutsy usplash
package. I don't know if that was my solution or not, but IIRC there
didn't seem to be any other packages updated at the same time which
could have possibly effected this issue.

Published in gutsy-release on 2007-10-15

usplash (0.5.7) gutsy; urgency=low

 * usplash_svga.c, usplash_svga_text(): When running in 16bpp mode,
calling gl_setpixel() (which takes a palette index) does not make sense,
since we never set a palette (this happens only in 8bpp modes). Use
gl_setpixelrgb() in 16bpp mode and look up the RGB values from
vesa_palette, which is initialized from the theme.

This repairs operation on i386 and amd4 where SGVA is used, so that text
appears in the color set by the theme, instead of being fixed to dark blue.

Um, alternatively, if your /etc/resolv.conf gets changed automatically,
you can prevent access to modifying it (Even root can't modify) by
giving:

sudo chattr +i /etc/resolv.conf

(You can undo this by manually giving -i later, if you need something
changed within)

I would like to notice that my laptop does have a Power_Cycle_Count near

I don't know if this problem really affects some computers which suffer
from bad detection, but it's not my case.

[Bug 158259] wide windows have messed up window decoration

2007-10-29 Thread StuartYeates
Public bug reported:

When making windows wider than the screen width (usually twice or three
times as wide), the top window decoration is not updated correctly.

I've run into the bug only with the terminal, and only when ssh'd into
another machine using that terminal.

Steps to reproduce:

(1) Start a new terminal window
(2) ssh into an other machine
(3) start emacs on the remote machine
(4) move the window to the 95% off the left hand side of the screen, so only a
thin sliver is visible.
(5) using the window decorator, widen the window by dragging from the left hand
side of the screen to the right
(6) repeat (4) and (5) several times
(7) the window decoration at the top of the new wide window should now be
visibly corrupt

Why do I want to do this? So I can cut and paste long lines from the
emacs window onto the local machine.

cheers
stuart

[Bug 158169] Re: Maximizing window in Dual screen mode in Xfce does not work in the panel display, if panels vertical

The difference between this and #158172 is that in this bug window does
maximize under existing panel, but in #158172 you can not move the
window to the edge of a display even if there is no panel there.

[Bug 81396] Re: After sync palm says: HotSync operation was interrupted

2007-10-29 Thread Fedor Isakov
I just had the same error while synchronizing my palm TX with freshly
installed Gutsy. With Feisty I never experienced anything like this, and
I changed nothing in the palm/desktop config.

After I closed the gnome-pilot dialog, the applet's icon stays green. On
any attempt to restart/pause daemon it keeps telling me the
synchronization wasn't finished I that I have to wait for it to finish.
There's no way to restart the daemon from the applet's menu.

'killall gpilotd' doesn't help either.

Surprisingly, the hotsync still works and finishes without problems,
although the gnome-pilot status window does not appear during the sync.

Note: I have Evolution window open at the time of hotsync, this may be
related.

New intel driver doesn't support Xinerama anymore. You have to use
xrandr instead. Please remove the Xinerama lines from your xorg.conf or
 create a new one.

[Bug 59695] Re: default value in power.sh potentially kills laptop disks

2007-10-29 Thread Guy Widloecher
I confirm on 2 DELL laptops, the 1st one 18 months old with
Load_Cycle_Count around 90, the 2nd one 1 month old with 25000. I
just applied the hdparm.conf workaround as explained several time above.

This issue in Wishlist is inapproprate. It should be considered as
high or critical.

[Bug 80613] Re: Ubuntu install CD does not boot correctly on HP dc7700p

2007-10-29 Thread Reinier Boon
After spending 2 days trying all sort of kernel boot options, I finally
decided to take one last desperate attempt to get Ubuntu running, and
boldly flashed the BIOS with the newest firmware.

This fixes the problem!

Importing seems to be fixed in Gutsy 7.10 and KDE 3.5.8 but i still
can't sign my messages with the key iported via kleopatra. I'm getting
something like Signing failed: general error (Signierung
fehlgeschlagen: Allgemeiner Fehler).

Re: [Bug 156469] Re: Firefox Java applet not loading

2007-10-29 Thread AJ
Alexander,

Thanks. Being new to Ubuntu it took me some time to realise that the plugin
had to be uninstalled using the Synaptics package manager. I tried
installing the icedtea-java plugin as you suggested but got a 'bad
signature' error. The Sun plugins also refuse to get installed. Anyway, I
will try again later.

Overall Ubuntu does not yet give me the confidence to switch over completely
from Windows.

Regards
Aniruddha

this is probably a problem of classpath or even of gcj itself (but not
firefox). As a workaround I would suggest to try icedtea-java7 plugin or
 the multiverse sun-java6 plugin packages.

 Reassigning to classpath for now.

And I'm getting this behavior on a clean install of Gutsy, using a wired

[Bug 156168] Re: package emacs-goodies-el 27.1-1 failed to install/upgrade:

I also got this error while upgrading with update-manager... So no
console log.

Afterwards I manually unsinstalled emacs 21 and installed 22.. Seems
like there was a conflict.
