[Bug 160906] Exception when saving to file in OpenOffice using UNO API (Java bindings)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org I have a blocking problem with OpenOffice in Gutsy. I get the error with the official OpenOffice repository version (2.3.0-1ubuntu5) and with the updated version (2.3.0-1ubuntu5.2) available from http://codeprobe.de/tmp/ooo/ (provided by dAniel hAhler). I'm using OpenOffice in server mode: I run it on Ubuntu Server 7.10, using xvfb (so I have no gnome desktop). I'm developing a java application that makes use of UNO interface to connect to a live OOo server and do some work on text documents. To achieve this I keep a running OOo instance with this command: xvfb-run --server-args='-screen 0 800x600x16' -a /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice -headless -nologo -norestore accept=socket,host=0.0.0.0,port=2002;urp; The problem I get is an exception when I try to save the document to disk: com.sun.star.task.ErrorCodeIOException: at com.sun.star.lib.uno.environments.remote.Job.remoteUnoRequestRaisedException(Job.java:187) at com.sun.star.lib.uno.environments.remote.Job.execute(Job.java:153) at com.sun.star.lib.uno.environments.remote.JobQueue.enter(JobQueue.java:349) at com.sun.star.lib.uno.environments.remote.JobQueue.enter(JobQueue.java:318) at com.sun.star.lib.uno.environments.remote.JavaThreadPool.enter(JavaThreadPool.java:106) at com.sun.star.lib.uno.bridges.java_remote.java_remote_bridge.sendRequest(java_remote_bridge.java:657) at com.sun.star.lib.uno.bridges.java_remote.ProxyFactory$Handler.request(ProxyFactory.java:159) at com.sun.star.lib.uno.bridges.java_remote.ProxyFactory$Handler.invoke(ProxyFactory.java:141) at $Proxy60.storeAsURL(Unknown Source) The Java code is this: public void storeDocComponent(String storeUrl) throws java.lang.Exception { storeUrl = storeUrl.replace(\\, /); XStorable xStorable = (XStorable) UnoRuntime.queryInterface(XStorable.class, xComponent); PropertyValue[] storeProps = new PropertyValue[1]; if (storeUrl.endsWith(.doc)) { storeProps[0] = new PropertyValue(); storeProps[0].Name = FilterName; storeProps[0].Value = MS Word 97; } xStorable.storeAsURL(storeUrl, storeProps); xComponent.dispose(); } Please note that: - it's not a write permission issue: I tried to chmod 777 the destination directory with no success, and the OOo engine is able to create the file with 0 length; - this whole system (my own application, the OOo headless server installation and configuration) works fine in Ubuntu 6.10 (the OOo version is 2.0.4). - I tried in Ubuntu Server 7.04, with OOo 2.2 with no success (there is another type of error: while inserting an image into the document, but the exception is aways about UNO calls) - the same installation works fine with OOo 2.3 on windows xp, without changing a single line of code, so I'm confident it's not an UNO API issue changing from OOo 2.0 (which works on Ubuntu 6.10 and windows xp) to OOo 2.3 (which works only on windows xp). It's almost a week of hard work that I'm trying to resolve this problem with no hope, so now I'm forced (due to my deadline) to setup my production environment with an Ubuntu Server 6.10 (the only system I was able to make working). If there's any other info/dump/stack trace I can supply, I would be glad to. [Bug 120834] Re: intel gm965 freezes with 3d applications
Hi, I faced some problems too with the Compaq 6510b... I solved installing the xserver-xorg-video-intel and the compizconfig-settings-manager packages... The 3D, resolution, all working well. My xorg-conf is attached. Please notice that the resolution of the monitor is fake However, the dual-screen does not work properly. Sure, but it doesn't crash anymore when opening this file. Instead, sometimes OpenOffice closes, then wake with proposal to recover the .xls file. [Bug 90271] Re: Regression: RealTek 8139 hard-locks system on installation/modprobe (affects Averatec, Philips laptops)
What happens on the box I just built using an old Realtek 8139 card I had lying around is that the 8139too driver will load. But, after using the network for a while, the whole computer will hang. I finally figured out to swap the Realtek 8139 card out for a Linksys and my computer is running flawlessly. That does leave the posibility that my problem is a bad NIC and not some issue with the driver. I haven't tried the NIC under another operating system. I was able to reproduce the problem in a simple test case here by simply downloading a 700 MB iso image. It would consistently hang within an hour with the Realtek, it always worked fine with the Linksys. -- Regression: RealTek 8139 hard-locks system on installation/modprobe (affects Averatec, Philips laptops) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/90271 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 152794] Re: nis daemon fails to attach to domain the first time it is run in Gutsy
I had the same problem since upgrading to Gutsy. The problem seems to be that the dhcdbd (some DHCP daemon) is started after NIS and autofs, so the interface has no chance to come up before init attempts to start NIS. One solution seems to be to start dhcdbd earlier, i.e. rename S24dhcdbd to S13dhcdbd in /etc/rc2.d. It seems to work for me. Another solution may be to uncomment the iface ethX inet dhcp (or similar) line in /etc/network/interfaces, but I have not tried that one. -- nis daemon fails to attach to domain the first time it is run in Gutsy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/152794 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 105882] Re: OpenOffice.org have problems when using bold, italic and underline
The following can be used as a workaround for this problem. Note that this problem affects ALL of the font-style buttons: BOLD, ITALICS, UNDERLINE In the following workaround the pressing of [CTRL+B/I/U] is indicated by the brackets: [CTRL+B] bold is on [CTRL+B] bold is off [CTRL+B] bold fails to turn on. Highlight the offending word or phase and press [CTRL+B] again. This will cause the effect to work and 'resets' the problem, which will repeat the next time bold is turned off. [Bug 131983] Re: [gutsy] trackerd kills disk io
I agree, trackerd should NOT be enabled by default. However nice it might be in theory, right now it's much too buggy and hogs too much memory and disk. Frankly I'm amazed that it got into a default install of Gutsy in this state. Jamie McCracken, do you not care about all the users who complain about it? Would you not rather disable it by default until it's stable and people are happy with it, than breaking the Ubuntu experience for millions of innocent users and giving trackerd a VERY bad name? (search Google for trackerd if you don't believe me) I don't think Ubuntu releases are a good place to beta-test new software on anyone, especially not if it's been tested in testing and people have asked for it to be removed from the final release and those requests have been ignored. On our first Gutsy system I discovered trackerd eating 100% cpu... by sitting in a loop of continuous SIGSEGV. Catching SIGSEGV is usually a bad idea, and then reinstalling the signal handler is even worse. Please fix that. [pid 13171] --- SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) @ 0 (0) --- [pid 13171] sigreturn() = ?
