[Bug 146946] Re: [gutsy] Gnome settings daemon does randomly not work
I encounter this bug in Gutsy (clean install and normal kernel) just after the login. This is the third or fourth time that I have found this bug and I would like to mention here. Just after the login there is an error popup (in french) and the icon theme of my system is changed. You can see a screenshot of my screen here (note that the icon theme is not the normal ubuntu theme) : http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2173/2042090445_1cc8341abc_b.jpg The translation of the error message is : There was an error during the startup of the Gnome preference daemon. Some features, like themes, sounds or wallpapers may not operate correctly. The last error message was : Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-f55Haym6uz : Conection denied Gnome will try to restart the preference daemon the next time you log in. When i restart everything is fine (no error message and the ubuntu theme is normal). [Bug 88992] Re: Ricoh SD card reader does not work, loading mmc_block and inserting makes kernel go BOOM
Confirmed for me too. I'm running Gutsy 64 on an HP Pavillion dv6000-series laptop. I had the card reader working just fine under Edgy, but since upgrading it has ceased to work. I did not to a fresh install; I downloaded the alternate install CD and updated from it. A fresh install was (and still is) out of the question. [Bug 46015] Re: Sbackup should exclude browser cache files by default?
This bug is marked as Fix Released and noted as fixed upstream, but the problem persists in sbackup svn on sourceforge (and so in gutsy and hardy). The latest revision (79) of /trunk/data/sbackup.conf.example contains: regex=\.mp3,\.avi,\.mpeg,\.mpg,\.mkv,\.ogg,\.ogm,\.tmp,/home/[^/]+?/\.thumbnails/,/home/[^/]+?/\.Trash,/home/.mozilla/.+/Cache/ The expression /home/.mozilla/.+/Cache/ doesn't actually match any particular user's browser cache and doesn't effectively exclude anything. The regex listed above (/home/[^/]+?/\..+/[cC]ache) seems like a good candidate for a fix. Or, perhaps, to exclude only browser cache: /home/[^/]+?/\.mozilla/.+/Cache I've tested the latter here. The only two things I can image is my hard drive is some how faulty. I am using SATA cables instead of IDE. Not sure if this is effecting this. Could it effect it? The other thing, which I really think it is, is the firmware or the drivers that connect Ubuntu to my motherboard don't work properly. I am using an MSI motherboard : MSI VIA P4M800CE + VT8237R Plus Chipset Based PM8M3-V Thanks you for all your help, and hope this helps out. If you need me to do some testing, just email me. [Bug 163509] bind9 is not ready to run
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: bind9 I previously was running bind9 on a Feisty box which was upgraded through apt to Gutsy. I decided today to wipe that machine and do a fresh install of Gutsy. I dropped in my old /etc/bind directory, installed bind9 and attempted to start up bind with /etc/init.d/bind9 start. Bind refused to start and I immediately got this complaint in /var/log/messages: Nov 18 00:24:29 zaphod kernel: [ 110.744892] Failure registering capabilities with primary security module. After flailing around with google and finding absolutely nothing relevant to my problem, I stumbled across this: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gbindadmin/+bug/162821 I curiously installed gbindadmin and played around with it, telling it to use /etc/bind instead of /var/named. It created /var /dev and /etc in /etc/bind and lo, bind9 now starts up and works. [Bug 68960] Re: Vim locks up while editing a specific file (file attached)
I can also reproduce this bug with the latest version of vim (vim-7.1.156) which I downloaded from cvs and compiled from sources. I move cursor from left to right over parenthese at line 89 (it's fine) but when I move cursor from right to left over parenthese, vim then takes 100% of CPU. I waited several minutes, so it looks like it's an endless loop (or something that would be very slow!) I faced the same problem with my old IBM Thinkpad 380Z after installing Ubuntu 7.10 onto it -- the laptop did not shutdown. However, with Ubuntu 6.06.10 it used to. I added acpi=off and apm=on to the kernel booting line in /boot/grub/menu.lst, and also apm power_off=1 to /etc/modules. [Bug 163181] Re: [hardy] New upstream release 0.2.11.1
I think an update to reduce the tar file size isn't a bad thing, but I'm concerned about other things I see in the candidate version, and so won't be sponsoring this candidate. Section: universe/devel seems incorrect for a media player: sound would be more appropriate. The maintainer has changed without explanation. More relevantly, the listed Maintainer does not have an Ubuntu email address, yet the package carries an Ubuntu revision. It's much preferable if python packages use the python-central or python-support structures for install-time compilation. Has iPod support been dropped? If not, it might be worth suggesting python-gpod (or the equivalent) It is generally not preferred to adjust the initial debianisation note in debian/copyright. Additional work should be noted in the copyright and licensing for the packaging at the bottom of debian/copyright. Changes in debian/copyright silently drop attribution to Lee Willis for mmkeys Packaging contributions from Adam Cécile have been dropped silently Not every window manager supports .PNG icons, so the menu file should use an XPM. I prefer if debian/ is not from upstream, as it makes it harder to adjust packaging if significant variance is preferred. Most critically, it is impossible to delete a file in the diff.gz, so if there are any files that the maintainer would like to remove, this requires special effort. The previous packaging repacked the tarball for this, which is also not an ideal solution. DH_VERBOSE should be commented out in a production release Some of the debian/rules rules don't seem to be doing anything useful (e.g. configure dependencies) Watch files should avoid using .*, as perl is greedy. I've unsubscribed ubuntu-universe-sponsors pending resolution of the above. If a new candidate is prepared, please upload an interdiff generated with `interdiff -z exaile_0.2.11-0ubuntu1.diff.gz exaile_0.2.11.1-0ubuntu1.diff.gz`, and resubscribe ubuntu-universe- sponsors to request upload. ** Changed in: exaile (Ubuntu) Assignee: Emmet Hikory (persia) = (unassigned) Status: In Progress = Incomplete -- [hardy] New upstream release 0.2.11.1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163181 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 163518] .desktop files say OnlyShowIn=GNOME, should be NotShowIn=KDE;
Public bug reported: The gnome-utils are perfectly useful in an Xfce environment, however, they are set to only be displayed in Gnome. gnome-search-tool.desktop, baobab.desktop, gnome-system-log.desktop, gnome-dictionary.desktop, gfloppy.desktop and gnome-screenshot.desktop *all* contain OnlyShowIn=GNOME . [Bug 163521] WLAN commention not being picked up after hibernation
Public bug reported: Quite frequently my laptop fails to reconnect to the wireless lan after waking up from hibernation. Sometimes the network manager applet shows the network signal level indication bars but there's no connectivity, sometimes the applet shows the connecting to network indication but connection is never established. Sometimes after hibernation I get the keyring password prompt and the system is able to reconnect just fine. I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 with all the latest updates on Dell Latitude D620. [Bug 155495] Re: touchpad does not work after upgrade from feisty to gutsy
Hi dbensimon, It is not exactly what I said. I don't know if it was turned off by default (it's an Acer Aspire 5102wlmi, not an 5002). What I know is that I had played with those buttons on the laptop (I've got no laptop, it's not mine), without knowing what is was for, and I think I have disabled it myself. So, my explanation is that as I am not used to laptops and as I didn't really know what I was doing with those buttons, I though it was a bug whereas it was not. -- touchpad does not work after upgrade from feisty to gutsy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155495 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 129106] Re: [gutsy] Vim crash when gnome terminal tab is detached
When bug happens, vim exits from x_error_handler() without core dump. I added a call to abort() in x_error_handler() in my CVS sanbox (vim-7.1.156) to have a core dump and thus see the call stack etc when that bug happens.
