Merge is ready for review/upload. Probably easiest is to use the debdiff
on top of debian-multimedia source package http://debian-
multimedia.org/pool/main/g/gpac/gpac_0.4.4-0.3.dsc

[Bug 146946] Re: [gutsy] Gnome settings daemon does randomly not work

2007-11-18 Thread patrick_g
I encounter this bug in Gutsy (clean install and normal kernel) just after the
login. This is the third or fourth time that I have found this bug and I would
like to mention here.
Just after the login there is an error popup (in french) and the icon theme of
my system is changed.
You can see a screenshot of my screen here (note that the icon theme is not the
normal ubuntu theme) :
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2173/2042090445_1cc8341abc_b.jpg

The translation of the error message is :

There was an error during the startup of the Gnome preference daemon.
Some features, like themes, sounds or wallpapers may not operate correctly.
The last error message was :

Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-f55Haym6uz :
Conection denied

Gnome will try to restart the preference daemon the next time you log
in.

When i restart everything is fine (no error message and the ubuntu theme is
normal).
The frequency of this bug is (roughly) one per ten boot.

[Bug 88992] Re: Ricoh SD card reader does not work, loading mmc_block and inserting makes kernel go BOOM

2007-11-18 Thread ve4cib
Confirmed for me too. I'm running Gutsy 64 on an HP Pavillion
dv6000-series laptop. I had the card reader working just fine under
Edgy, but since upgrading it has ceased to work. I did not to a fresh
install; I downloaded the alternate install CD and updated from it. A
fresh install was (and still is) out of the question. Not having this
card reader working is a royal pain in the arse for me, and I would
definitely appreciate having it fixed ASAP.

Some additional information about my situation:

What's got me confused is this:

Maybe my card reader is /dev/something else, but I honestly don't know what.
I'll admit my knowledge of hardware/OS interaction is limited at best, but if
you need more information please let me know (and possibly include what command
I should run to provide you with that information) and I'll pass it along. You

Correction: in my intro I stated that the card reader had worked under

lot of difference.

[Bug 46015] Re: Sbackup should exclude browser cache files by default?

2007-11-18 Thread Brian Hart
This bug is marked as Fix Released and noted as fixed upstream, but the
problem persists in sbackup svn on sourceforge (and so in gutsy and
hardy). The latest revision (79) of /trunk/data/sbackup.conf.example
contains:

regex=\.mp3,\.avi,\.mpeg,\.mpg,\.mkv,\.ogg,\.ogm,\.tmp,/home/[^/]+?/\.thumbnails/,/home/[^/]+?/\.Trash,/home/.mozilla/.+/Cache/

The expression /home/.mozilla/.+/Cache/ doesn't actually match any
particular user's browser cache and doesn't effectively exclude
anything. The regex listed above (/home/[^/]+?/\..+/[cC]ache) seems
like a good candidate for a fix. Or, perhaps, to exclude only browser
cache:

/home/[^/]+?/\.mozilla/.+/Cache

I've tested the latter here. It works as expected.

The removal request seems sane. Lots of alternatives (although the

Try using:

pstoedit -f:plot-svg thingie.ps output.svg

and then reading that in inkscape.

It does a pretty good job but gets shapes with holes wrong, but can
easily be fixed; select the hole (which is a solid shape behind the main
shape) then also select the main shape and do a subtract.

The selection is hard, but you select the main shape and cut, then you
can see the solid hole which you select, then UNDO will put back the cut
shape but leave selection on the hole.

HOME will bring the hole to thr frint, you then also-select the main
shape and do a shape subtract and you have a proper hole back.

[Bug 161094] Re: knetwalk uses incorrect win conditions

2007-11-18 Thread Eloi [entfe001]
It seems that knetwalk not only checks that all computers are connected
to the server but also that all wires are too connected, so every square
on the board is connected.

I observed this behaviour in Gutsy if I left some wires to connect. For
the moment I had not encountered a game with more than one solution
involving all squares to confirm my theory, and I don't know enough
programming to look at the source code.

I told you something wrong. In the case it blanks I loose the cursor.
No chance to find the prompt.

Here's my workaround: When I've got the blank screen, I move my cursor
to the middle of the screen where it changes from an arrow to an I-beam.
Click once, enter your user name and hit enter. Click it again, enter
your password, and hit enter. Gets me right back in every time. The text
box is there, you just can't see it (at least in my case).

[Bug 159950] Re: alt + tab in compiz removes all window decorations

I have the same problem, but I am on KDE (64bit Kubuntu 7.10; Nvidia

emerald, the window manager (Emerald) restarts and you once again have
window decorations. You don't have to log out and back in, but it's
still aggravating.

[Bug 163508] I think X restarts, happens when I watch a video, flash online or stream music

2007-11-18 Thread The Net Duck
Public bug reported:

Ok so this is what happens.

I can login to my Ubuntu desktop just fine etc but when I am watching a
movie about 3 min into the movie all the sudden either a couple of
things happen. My movie x's out and just crashes (I think?) or all the
sudden X restarts (I think?) and I am back to my login page. I have no
idea why this happens and I can repeat the bug every time I watch a
movie in flash or just on my desktop from an .avi etc.

It is not a problem with my Graphics card because it would happen with
my on board chip Intel graphics and so I purchase a new Nvidia 6200 card
that works great.

It's not a problem with my Ram I have tested my 1gb of ram many times
and it seems just fine.

Its not a problem with my CPU heating up because I have touched the heat
sink while running and never seems to hot, actually seems quit cool.
Also, it's a 3.4ghz Hypertheaded Intel processor.

The only two things I can image is my hard drive is some how faulty. I
am using SATA cables instead of IDE. Not sure if this is effecting this.
Could it effect it? The other thing, which I really think it is, is the
firmware or the drivers that connect Ubuntu to my motherboard don't work
properly. I am using an MSI motherboard :

MSI
VIA P4M800CE + VT8237R Plus Chipset Based
PM8M3-V

Thanks you for all your help, and hope this helps out. If you need me to
do some testing, just email me.

[Bug 163509] bind9 is not ready to run

2007-11-18 Thread frotz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bind9

I previously was running bind9 on a Feisty box which was upgraded
through apt to Gutsy. I decided today to wipe that machine and do a
fresh install of Gutsy. I dropped in my old /etc/bind directory,
installed bind9 and attempted to start up bind with /etc/init.d/bind9
start. Bind refused to start and I immediately got this complaint in
/var/log/messages:

Nov 18 00:24:29 zaphod kernel: [ 110.744892] Failure registering
capabilities with primary security module.

After flailing around with google and finding absolutely nothing
relevant to my problem, I stumbled across this:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gbindadmin/+bug/162821

I curiously installed gbindadmin and played around with it, telling it
to use /etc/bind instead of /var/named. It created /var /dev and /etc
in /etc/bind and lo, bind9 now starts up and works. Why isn't this done
by the bind9 package already?

[Bug 68960] Re: Vim locks up while editing a specific file (file attached)

2007-11-18 Thread dominiko
I can also reproduce this bug with the latest version of vim (vim-7.1.156)
which I downloaded from cvs and compiled from sources.

I move cursor from left to right over parenthese at line 89 (it's fine)
but when I move cursor from right to left over parenthese, vim
then takes 100% of CPU. I waited several minutes, so it
looks like it's an endless loop (or something that would be
very slow!)

If I attached with gdb to the running process, I see the stack trace
(quite deep) at given time (when it loops forever):

[Bug 119308] Re: Gutsy shutdown doesn't

2007-11-18 Thread Bambur
I faced the same problem with my old IBM Thinkpad 380Z after installing
Ubuntu 7.10 onto it -- the laptop did not shutdown. However, with Ubuntu
6.06.10 it used to. I added acpi=off and apm=on to the kernel booting
line in /boot/grub/menu.lst, and also apm power_off=1 to /etc/modules.
And I confirm Ubuntu starts up without acpi=force is required message
and the laptop shutdowns properly.

[Bug 163181] Re: [hardy] New upstream release 0.2.11.1

2007-11-18 Thread Emmet Hikory
I think an update to reduce the tar file size isn't a bad thing, but I'm
concerned about other things I see in the candidate version, and so
won't be sponsoring this candidate.

Section: universe/devel seems incorrect for a media player: sound would
be more appropriate.

The maintainer has changed without explanation. More relevantly, the
listed Maintainer does not have an Ubuntu email address, yet the package
carries an Ubuntu revision.

It's much preferable if python packages use the python-central or
python-support structures for install-time compilation.

Has iPod support been dropped? If not, it might be worth suggesting
python-gpod (or the equivalent)

It is generally not preferred to adjust the initial debianisation note
in debian/copyright. Additional work should be noted in the copyright
and licensing for the packaging at the bottom of debian/copyright.

Changes in debian/copyright silently drop attribution to Lee Willis for
mmkeys

Packaging contributions from Adam Cécile have been dropped silently

Not every window manager supports .PNG icons, so the menu file should
use an XPM.

I prefer if debian/ is not from upstream, as it makes it harder to
adjust packaging if significant variance is preferred. Most critically,
it is impossible to delete a file in the diff.gz, so if there are any
files that the maintainer would like to remove, this requires special
effort. The previous packaging repacked the tarball for this, which is
also not an ideal solution.

DH_VERBOSE should be commented out in a production release

Some of the debian/rules rules don't seem to be doing anything useful
(e.g. configure dependencies)

Watch files should avoid using .*, as perl is greedy.

I've unsubscribed ubuntu-universe-sponsors pending resolution of the
above. If a new candidate is prepared, please upload an interdiff
generated with `interdiff -z exaile_0.2.11-0ubuntu1.diff.gz
exaile_0.2.11.1-0ubuntu1.diff.gz`, and resubscribe ubuntu-universe-
sponsors to request upload.

[Bug 163518] .desktop files say OnlyShowIn=GNOME, should be NotShowIn=KDE;

2007-11-18 Thread Vincent
Public bug reported:

The gnome-utils are perfectly useful in an Xfce environment, however,
they are set to only be displayed in Gnome.

gnome-search-tool.desktop, baobab.desktop, gnome-system-log.desktop,
gnome-dictionary.desktop, gfloppy.desktop and gnome-screenshot.desktop
*all* contain OnlyShowIn=GNOME .

As said, they can equally well be used in Xfce, so in that case it would
have to be NotShowIn=KDE; . I even think these apps may be useful in a
KDE environment too, so perhaps even that shouldn't be there.

[Bug 147187] Re: OpenOffice Calc produces unintended striktthrough marks

2007-11-18 Thread Wolf Rogner
Yes you are right.

However, I have seen this behaviour only in files that were created in
MS Excel and read into OO. Usually, copying and pasting solves the
issue.

So I think that your analysis about text overflow might need some
extension.

Sorry for the late reply. I had to reinstall everything on this laptop

I can also reproduce this bug on Gutsty. I downloaded the latest

and I can still reproduce this problem with this latest vim.

This is vim in a terminal. I think it only uses X for copy/paste or perhaps
mouse support.

If I start vim with vim -X (to disable connection to X-server, then
it does not crash).

[Bug 129518] Re: glabels crashes when switching paper size in template selector dialog

2007-11-18 Thread mtwells
Workaround:

Download and install the 2.1.3-3 builds for debian sid from

http://packages.debian.org/glabels

You need glabels_2.1.3-3-x and glabels-data_2.1.3-3-x

Then open a shell and run
 sudo dpkg -i glabels_2.1.3-3_amd64.deb glabels-data_2.1.3-3_all.deb

(all one line)
This will replace 2.1.3 with 2.1.3-3
Clearly, someone with bigger powers than I needs to replace 2.1.3 with 2.1.3-3
in the Ubuntu Gutsy package set

[Bug 163517] laptop_mode waking up the CPU.

2007-11-18 Thread Kimmo Ahola
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: laptop-mode-tools

1. When laptop mode is enabled, powertop http://packages.ubuntu.com/powertop
shows line:
  26.4% ( 11.3) laptop_mode : queue_delayed_work_on
(delayed_work_timer_fn)

2. Then I run a command:
  sudo invoke-rc.d laptop-mode stop

3. Now laptop_mode should stop? but powertop still shows that same kind
of line.

4. I turn laptop_mode back on:
  sudo invoke-rc.d laptop-mode start
and powertop still shows that line (like it should).

5. When I unplug the power cable from my laptop, powertop does not show
that line anymore.

6. I plug the power cable back to my laptop, powertop does not start to
show that line, like it previously did when the cable was plugged in.

I'm using packages from Gutsy.

Should it do like that? Or is there a bug that is causing this?

[Bug 163521] WLAN commention not being picked up after hibernation

2007-11-18 Thread aspa
Public bug reported:

Quite frequently my laptop fails to reconnect to the wireless lan after waking

Sometimes the network manager applet shows the network signal level indication

[Bug 155495] Re: touchpad does not work after upgrade from feisty to gutsy

2007-11-18 Thread VincentRC
Hi dbensimon,

It is not exactly what I said. I don't know if it was turned off by default
(it's an Acer Aspire 5102wlmi, not an 5002).
What I know is that I had played with those buttons on the laptop (I've got
no laptop, it's not mine), without knowing what is was for, and I think I have
disabled it myself.

So, my explanation is that as I am not used to laptops and as I didn't
really know what I was doing with those buttons, I though it was a bug
whereas it was not.
