[Bug 175044] Update of slocate.3.1 failed to install in Hardy Alpha-1

2007-12-09 Thread Stanley Sokolow
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: slocate

Installed 8.04 alpha-1, then received notification icon that 271 updates
are available. I clicked to start update. About 2/3 of way through the
installation phase, crash notification icon appeared. I clicked on it,
but icon unable to get data appeared. Scrolling back, I found the
error message which said that slocate.3.1-... encountered errors while
processing. Tried again to update (slocate was still listed as
available for update). Still failed.

Hello Nanley - I had been running the new Ubuntu 7.10 which I had downloaded,
burned, and installed. I got tired of it, so I reloaded a fresh instal of
Ubuntu 7.0.4. That stopped the behaviour. I've just upgraded to the new 7.10
again, and if the problem persists, I'll get back to you. Thanks for
responding. Are you part of the dev/bug team?

And if there's some tool out there that is better at recovering data
than fsck, why not investigate running that tool instead (or maybe in
addition to fsck).

Anyways, asking and making it CRYSTAL CLEAR and DEAD SIMPLE what needs
to be done to get back to a working state is better than what's there
now.

[Bug 150193] Re: Remote Login via XDMCP is not working in Ubuntu Gusty/7.10

2007-12-09 Thread brunus
Hi Jose,
I'm quite a linux newbie myself, but applying a patch seems to be an easy task,
according to what I've read on the wikipedia under patch
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patch_%28Unix%29). On ubuntu, you have to install
the package patch first, in order to apply the patch via command line.
I'm also longing to try the patch, but so far I'm too busy with other stuff, so
I root for you Jose! :-)
good luck,

brunus

[Bug 141161] Re: [regression] after recent upgrade to 6.7.192-4ubuntu1 dual-head support is broken

2007-12-09 Thread Henrik Nilsen Omma
This bug was nominated for Gutsy but does currently not qualify for a
7.10 stable release update (SRU) and the nomination is therefore
declined. According the the SRU policy, the fix should already be
deployed and tested in the current development version before an update
to the stable releases will be considered. With 7.10 now released, that
policy applies to this bug. See:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates .

The bug is not being closed as work will continue on fixing it for the
next release, Hardy Heron (8.04). To help improve the state of this bug
see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/HowToTriage and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .

[Bug 112444] Re: ubiquity does not scan for software RAID (mdadm) devices like /dev/md0 during installation

2007-12-09 Thread Dave Burton
This problem still exists in Gutsy Gibbon.

It is, indeed, most frustrating. Even after I manually created and
formatted the raid1 partition (ext3), ubiquity still refuses to
recognize them. Instead, its partitioner misidentifies both of the
mirrors as plain ext3 partitions.

I had to apt-get the mdadm utility. Then I did this:

mknod /dev/md0 b 9 0
modprobe raid1
mdadm -v -C /dev/md0 --level=raid1 --raid-devices=2 /dev/sda7 /dev/sdb7
mke2fs -j /dev/md0

It all worked fine. But it made no difference to ubiquity. The
install link on the desktop (ubiquity) still refused to recognize the
md0 device at the partitioning step.

[Bug 136469] Re: toshiba p100 series dsdt acpi error no sound, works with acpi turned off.

2007-12-09 Thread Henrik Nilsen Omma
The Hardy Heron kernel was recently uploaded for testing. We'd really
appreciate it if you could try testing with this newer kernel and verify
if this issue still exists. Unfortunately, the Hardy Heron Alpha1 LiveCD
was released with the older 2.6.22 kernel. You'll have to manually
install the newer Hardy Heron kernel in order to test. This should not
be the case for Alpha2. However, here are the instructions to install
(if you choose to do so):

1) edit the file /etc/apt/sources.list and add the following line:

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hardy main restricted

2) sudo apt-get update
3) sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.24-1-generic
4) reboot and select the new kernel from the grub menu

After you've tested, please feel free to revert back - ie boot into the
old kernel, sudo apt-get remove linux-image-2.6.24-1-generic, and remove
the line from /etc/apt/sources.list . Please update this report with
your results. Thanks in advance!

I've opened a task against the new linux package (now simply called
'linux') and will close the 2.6.22 package as this issue is not an SRU
candidate. See: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates . Setting
to Incomplete as there is no debugging info for 2.6.24 yet. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies ,

[Bug 174995] Re: xfdesktop or panels keep not starting, resurrection needed

2007-12-09 Thread André Pirard
** Description changed:

NB: my real point is not to fix the death cause.
It's resurrection, in the second paragraph.

I (too vaguely) describe the events in case it could help.
I installed ubuntu-desktop on top of Xubuntu.
I started a few Gnome logins in test users' sessions, left active.
Then, I tested Gnome login on my main account.
Being satisfied, I logged this one out and back in to xfce.
If I recall well, the xfce's blue desktop showed, maybe its icons too.
Then suddenly, the desktop was painted in plain brown, no icons.
(I had changed my Gnome wallpaper to plain brown but my post-Gnome-login is
brown too)
The panels were the xfce's ones.
I right clicked some desktop context menu item to be just told that a gnome
component was not active; then the right click became inactive.

My point is that xfce kept logging in without desktop (sole brown wallpaper).
A web search pointed me to executing Alt-F2 xfdesktop.
This solved the problem forever (now logging correctly).

My point is that a common user is unable to find and do that.
- The desktop should obviously always start.
+ The desktop should obviously always start during login.
If there's any reason it shouldn't, I think it would be at the expense of a,
maybe timed, message asking the common user if the desktop has to be restored.

Exactly the same problem occurred with permanently disappeared panels.
A web search pointed me to an Alt-F2 xfce4-panel solution.

  Hoping this will help. André.

[Bug 175052] rfcomm / Bluetooth oops when disconnecting rfcomm session

2007-12-09 Thread Ian Howson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22

I've been using rfcomm + ppp to connect my laptop (running Ubuntu Gutsy)
to my mobile phone for Internet access.

At some point, the connection will drop unexpectedly (more on this
below). I verify that pppd is shut down and close the rfcomm connection
with 'rfcomm release 1'. At some point after this, I'll usually get a
kernel error of some sort - the exact message varies. It's always
related to freeing kobjects.

I've attached a few different logs showing the issue - the one in the
image caused the machine to hard lock.

The standard Ubuntu kernel logs will be attached in a minute.

---

Connection dropping unexpectedly: I'm not sure whether this is because
the Bluetooth signal is getting out of range or the cell network is
dropping the connection or what. The cell network (Three Australia)
seems to silently 'hang up' the connection if I leave it idle for too
long - constantly pinging a host definitely helps the connection stay
alive and stave off the kernel bug.

[Bug 104790] Re: feisty opens a busybox on boot with RAID0+reiserfs

2007-12-09 Thread Francesco Montorsi
Hi,
as I wrote in my comment dated 2007-07-09, since the kernel:

  Linux ubuntu 2.6.20-16-386 #2 Thu Jun 7 20:16:13 UTC 2007 i686
GNU/Linux

the problem is gone for me. Now I'm using

  Linux ubuntu 2.6.22-14-386 #1 Sun Oct 14 22:36:54 GMT 2007 i686
GNU/Linux

and I still don't have any problem.

Should this bug report be closed?
Or the fix in the newer kernels was actually a side-effect of unrelated
changes? In this case I fear the bug could reappear in future!
Putting some comments in the initialization scripts about the danger of a race
condition between md-building and root-mounting could be useful to avoid
such possibility in future...

tried on my other systems but where never able to reproduce.

I put the bug in state invalid, hops this is the right thing to do or

2007-12-09 Thread Elias Humbolt
And this is actually not a misinterpretation of the sys-mon app but
really how much cpu it consumes, unlike what people have suggested
before. I just setup Gutsy on a Celeron 500 and starting g-sys-mon makes
it very unresponsive! g-sys-mon is reporting it's cpu consumption
correctly, but it consumes way to much cpu!

[Bug 175054] mouse cursor disappear

2007-12-09 Thread ratalstar
Public bug reported:

My mouse cursor disappears when I use for instance konsole or kaffeine.
Unfortunately, it does not reappear, I have to guess position of cursor but I
can still click.

This is true only when I use nvidia driver, not with nv.
I was using compiz I removed - no improvement.
I tried several version of nvidia drivers, legacy and proprietary, no
improvement.

I was using feisty without any problems with following configuration :
2 x video cards nvidia 7600GS in SLI
After upgrade to gutsy, I had several problems I solved except this one.

I am still confused, is it a X or a driver problem (I did not see
anything abnormal in xorg log) ?

with acpi turned off.

The Hardy Heron kernel was recently uploaded for testing. We'd really
appreciate it if you could try testing with this newer kernel and
 verify
if this issue still exists. Unfortunately, the Hardy Heron Alpha1
 LiveCD
was released with the older 2.6.22 kernel. You'll have to manually
install the newer Hardy Heron kernel in order to test. This should not
be the case for Alpha2. However, here are the instructions to install
(if you choose to do so):

1) edit the file /etc/apt/sources.list and add the following line:

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hardy main restricted

2) sudo apt-get update
3) sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.24-1-generic
4) reboot and select the new kernel from the grub menu

After you've tested, please feel free to revert back - ie boot into the
old kernel, sudo apt-get remove linux-image-2.6.24-1-generic, and
 remove
the line from /etc/apt/sources.list . Please update this report with
your results. Thanks in advance!

I've opened a task against the new linux package (now simply called
'linux') and will close the 2.6.22 package as this issue is not an SRU
candidate. See: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates . Setting
to Incomplete as there is no debugging info for 2.6.24 yet. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies ,

such. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make
more sense to raise your question in the support tracker.

[Bug 175059] Please sync openh323 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2007-12-09 Thread Steve Kowalik
Public bug reported:

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

 affects ubuntu/openh323
 status confirmed
 subscribe ubuntu-archive

Please sync openh323 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
The only remaining Ubuntu change is to not include linux/compiler.h, which was
fixed by Debian in 1.18.0.dfsg-2. As a bonus, this sync will fix bug 159307.
The package builds and installs fine in a Hardy chroot, and allows asterisk to
actually build, fixing bug 159102.

Changelog since current hardy version 1.18.0.dfsg-1ubuntu2:

openh323 (1.18.0.dfsg-7) unstable; urgency=high

  * Fix dh_strip using libopenh323-develop rather than $(PACKAGE)-develop as
should. (Closes: #442974)
  * Setting high urgency due to fixing RC bug.
  * Remove implicit rules-ignores-make-clean error.
  * Add Homepage field as added in dpkg-dev 1.14.6.

 -- Kilian Krause [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat, 22 Sep 2007 12:08:49 +0200

openh323 (1.18.0.dfsg-6) unstable; urgency=low

  * Re-add doxygen to Build-Depends as most of the buildds don't install it if
it's only in Build-Depends-Indep.

 -- Kilian Krause [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue, 11 Sep 2007 19:45:33 +0200

openh323 (1.18.0.dfsg-5) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Faidon Liambotis ]
  * Update to Standards-Version 3.7.2, no changes needed.
  * Use debian/compat instead of DH_COMPAT.
  * Remove doxygen from Build-Deps, since it is part of Build-Deps-Indep.
  * Adapt shlibs to depend on the upstream's version number and not the Debian
version number, since we don't extend the ABI. This also imitates
debhelper's behavior.
  * Build-Conflict on libopenh323-1.18.0 since it will FTBFS if present.
  * Drop Build-Conflicts on pre-sarge linux-kernel-headers.

  [ Kilian Krause ]
  * Update debian/watch.
  * Update backport hooks.
  * Adjust debhelper build-dep to compat level in debian/compat.

 -- Kilian Krause [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue, 11 Sep 2007 17:07:58 +0200

openh323 (1.18.0.dfsg-4) unstable; urgency=high

  * Add myself to Uploaders.
  * Urgency high because of an RC bug fix.
  * Drop the notrace variant and provide the ptrace variant as
libopenh323-1.18.0. This reverts to the old ABI and the one that the
libopenh323-dev compiled for. (Closes: #438817)
  * Drop Conflicts/Replaces for liboh323-dev, they are ancient enough.
  * Don't conflict with libopenh323-dev from libopenh323-dev (i.e. itself).

-- Faidon Liambotis [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu, 23 Aug 2007 11:45:27
+0300

openh323 (1.18.0.dfsg-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Don't build notrace version with -DPASN_NOPRINTON to fix FTBFS in gnugk.
  * Don't conflict with previous API/ABI version. Move plugins to their own
namespace. (Closes: #424049)
  * Don't suggest libopenh323-dev (Closes: #369339)
  * Fix Source-Version to binary:Version depends to allow clean binNMUs.
  * Don't ignore make clean error.

 -- Kilian Krause [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat, 11 Aug 2007 11:47:38 +0200

openh323 (1.18.0.dfsg-2) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Kilian Krause ]
  * ixjuser.h.dpatch, ixjlid.h.dpatch: Fix compilation without compiler.h
header (Closes: #428946, #429002, #429007)
  * Build opt and debug versions of library. (Closes: #345512)

  [ Mark Purcell ]
  * Patches after discussion with Faidon Liambotis at DebConf7
- Should use libgsm instead of embedding a copy (Closes: #426681)
- Should use libspeex instead of embedding a copy (Closes: #426631)

[Bug 174427] Re: Tremulous causes X server crash (signal 11) on Radeon 9250 (M9+) 5C61 (AGP)

2007-12-09 Thread Tormod Volden
If crashing on start is reproducible you could maybe try to set a
breakpoint on SDL_Init and step it from there. If it crashes randomly
after half a minute it is more difficult, unless you ltrace it and find
some near-crash function call you can set breakpoint on.
