[Bug 147733] Re: [Gutsy] Blank screen while booting

2007-12-12 Thread Armin van der Togt
I have this same problem with a fresh install of Gutsy for amd64 on an
MSI megabook s270. I have another partition on the same laptop which had
Feisty and which I have upgraded to Gutsy and I don´t have the problem
there (this is feisty/gutsy for x86). So I guess it only happens with a
fresh install. My graphics adapter is an ATI radeon XPRESS 200M

[Bug 53388] Re: du reports existing files as missing

2007-12-12 Thread Cruncher
For reference, here is some detailed information:

The underlying code that changed was in lib/fts.c.
- du, chmod, chown, chgrp, and the new chcon use fts.
- ls and cp use explicit recursion (and are therefore not affected)

You are right. There was a time I loved Ubuntu, because it just worked.

Unfortunately I don't like most linux distros and other OSes I've tried

[Bug 175822] radeonhd driver segfaults - edid problem

2007-12-12 Thread Joachim Beckers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd

I'm trying the radeonhd driver on hardy x64 on an asus m2a-vm hdmi mobo.
this board has a RS690 chip with integrated radeon x1250 gpu.

when loading the xserver, radeonhd segfaults. the log is attached.

meanwhile on the screen, it says that it cannot get any edid data.
looking for information on edid, it found that there is no read-edid
package for x64 systems. I'm not sure the driver would need that though.
It might be another issue.

Saïvann Carignan schrieb folgendes am 12.12.2007 07:30:
 Thanks for your bug report.

Hi,
I'm not a expert with ssh but the debug outputs seems to demonstrate
that nautilus didn't have necessary files for authentication with the
 server.

It has. It's a local network, 2 computers directly connected via cable,
no Router between.
As I wrote, it works when I use SSH and SCP on Bash like ssh
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and with Konquerors fish.
I guess, it just takes Nautilus to long to verify the passphrase, so it
gives me an error.
Since SSH is a encrypted communication protocol that can be used for a
lot of purpose, can you be more specific about the configuration of the
server? Did you use sshfs to share files through SSH?

No SSHFS. Just openssh-server and openssh-client.
Unless someone that have more knowledge than me on this point, I would
suggest you to ask a question in https://answers.launchpad.net/ to see
if you get clues or answers that could help finding more informations
 about that bug/problem.

I appreciate your help, but I know how to connect via SSH with Nautilus.
It worked before.
I don't think people there can help me with that issue. But I can post
more infos later.

br
Kris

[Bug 174877] Re: Notification Area icon the wrong size

2007-12-12 Thread CatKiller
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 34156 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/34156

That's not really the same bug at all. That bug is about the arrangement
of icons in the Notification Area. This bug is about Rhythmbox's
Notification Area icon almost always being the wrong size. 16x16 is too
small, and is not the same size as any other Gnome Notification Area
icon.

It would be nice if Rhythmbox used its own SVG icon to scale to
arbitrary size, but even without that, 16x16 just looks stupid and is
inconsistent with the rest of the desktop.

Ubuntu allows mw to drag but not drop.
His allows him to do either but sometimes locks up thunderbird, I was
wondering if anybody could help. Except get my collegue to use ubuntu
instead which I am working on I promise ;)

Sorry for any confusion it was late for me ;)

[Bug 175827] [ruby-gnome2] [CVE-2007-6183] improper input sanitizing / format string vulnerability

2007-12-12 Thread hk47
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ruby-gnome2

References:
DSA-1431-1 (http://www.debian.org/security/2007/dsa-1431)

Quoting DSA-1431-1:
It was discovered that ruby-gnome2, GNOME-related bindings for the Ruby
language, didn't properly sanitize input prior to constructing dialogs. This
could allow for the execution of arbitary code if untrusted input is displayed
within a dialog.

Quoting CVE-2007-6183:
Format string vulnerability in the mdiag_initialize function in
gtk/src/rbgtkmessagedialog.c in Ruby-GNOME 2 (aka Ruby/Gnome2) 0.16.0, and SVN
versions before 20071127, allows context-dependent attackers to execute
arbitrary code via format string specifiers in the message parameter.

[Bug 175825] Gutsy broken sound: logs collected on a Dynabook AX480LS

2007-12-12 Thread Maxkun
Public bug reported:

Good morning everybody.

I am probably not the first person to report this bug. I followed the
instructions on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSoundProblems
and collected three log files I'd like to submit. I hope they can be helpful in
addressing this issue (not any sooner than after the Hardy release, I
understand?)

Behaviour: I can hear sound on Feisty, but after a while it will get
stuck on a sound and loop it endlessly (very much like a badly scratched
record... I hope you get the idea, sorry I'm a bit awkward at describing
it as I'm not a native English speaker). On Gutsy, after installation I
found the output muted. I unmuted it, unmuted every channel, tried
different mixers but could not hear anything.

I am attaching alsa-info.txt, lspci-vvnn.log and uname-a.log Thank you
very much for your attention.

Just a personal PSI am a happy and passionate Ubuntu fan. I trashed
all proprietary software from computers at home and at work (I am the
caretaker of a control system laboratory) and replaced it with Ubuntu.
Works like a charm and never had a problem with it. (Well, except for
ATI hardware... every time I let the restricted drivers manager install
the fglrx video driver it wouldn't work, but I always managed to get it
working by hand installation) So I would really like to express my
greatest kudos to the whole Ubuntu community - I have bought a very
smart Ubuntu T-shirt from the canonical shop, and I would like to know
if there is any other way I can contribute. As for this laptop, it's my
fiancee's. It breaks my heart to see her use Windows and wait 8 minutes
for startup (not to mention malware and things) so if anyone could drop
me a hint about how to fix or work around this problem, I would be
REALLY really grateful./RANT

[Bug 154416] Re: hfsplus unlink problems

2007-12-12 Thread till busch
thanks leann for your suggestions. i just tested 2.6.24-1. i'm sorry, but
2.6.24-1 does not fix the problem. it persists just as before.
creating hard links links works fine (the link count is updated correctly).
deleting any file with multiple links sets the link count to 0 immediately
(which also makes it impossible to delete the other links).

the main area where this makes trouble is .Xauthority -- since using
hfsplus as my home partition i often get banned from using my X11. when
i look at the .Xautority-file i see its link-count being 0 and its size
being zero, too. i frequently need to boot to os x and run fsck_hfs to
fix the link counts in my home directory and delete the broken files
(that once were hard links).

greetings,

- till

[Bug 172508] Re: non western character disappears in oo writer

2007-12-12 Thread Peter Wagner
The thing happens really only if

* a file has been founded in oo (CTRL-N)AND
* something has been pasted containing un-western characters

After the first operation, starting a new document, everything is
consistent. Documents are stored and loaded without loss of charatres.
After pasting something containing only western characters, everything
goes all roight. After pasting just a single non-western charcter, THE
WHOLE FILE is infected by the non western character of the pasted
input. This doesn't matter immediately, but only after saving and
reloading the whole file. Lots of non-western characters disappear.

The problem occurs independently of formation. If I paste-special
without formatting, the same happens. Even if I store the text to be
pasted into a plain file, copying from it results in the error.

I have also tried storing a document not founded under oo as a 'ott'
template, but the error continues.

For the time being, I have to have some blank document (founded in Word)
stored at some place, and any new doc I have to clone from this, because
CTRL-N causes data loss.

This happens similarloy to a friend who is running oo under Windows,
I've just seen him replacing odd copyright signs by our special
characters.

Peter Wagner

saving. One is founded in oo, the other in win.

[Bug 50624] Re: smb.conf Unix Password Sync chat script incorrect

2007-12-12 Thread Steve Langasek
Here is a patch to the default smb.conf which enables password sync by
default, via PAM, and updates the password chat script for compatibility
with current Linux-PAM prompting. This patch is relative to the
pristine Debian version of the smb.conf; for some reason that's not
clear to me, the Ubuntu package currently has a different default passwd
chat value than the Debian package does, and the Debian one works
whereas the Ubuntu one doesn't. The password chat value provided here
is still a change, generalized for use with systems that use something
other than pam_unix.

When I use Totem or mplayer, memory usage is stable and Firefox does not

stopping bug but it is a curiosity. I have not tested Firefox default

The merge is generally ok, some bits that are superfluous:

 - Standards-Version bump, debian/dirs drop, drop of duplicate build-depends
(these could get forwarded to debian instead)

RE: [Bug 175231] Re: Update Manager Failure

2007-12-12 Thread Novice Lady

I discovered that the CD had bad files only after I had already installed it
and had been using it for quite a while. A young student of mine had installed
and introduced me to this OS and I knew nothing about it. At some point later,
I discovered that I can actually check to see if the files were ok on the CD.
I think that might have been when I reinstalled it at some point.

I assume that the Update Manager has been disabled in some way (by a
Hacker or virus) since I cannot update anything. When I click on
Install Updates, I get a window asking for a password. When I clear
that window, it goes back to the Update window again. It keeps going
back and forth from these two windows.

Thanks for your help.
Sheila

/var/log/syslog and dmesg are less verbose, the only relevant line seems
to be this:

Thanks for your comments. This does not appear to be a bug report as
such. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make
more sense to raise your question in the support tracker.

[Bug 174634] Re: scite version 1.75 not in repo

2007-12-12 Thread Actam
Very much thanks for the quick update.

Btw, must --I-- change the status of the bug or just wait for a
moderator to close it?

P.S: libc6 is integrated in Hardy? Before, if I remember correctly,
scite not was libc6-dependant!

Could you attach the list of programs running? The backtrace seems to
indicate a gnome-keyring issue rather than a gdm one. Does using startx
to start xorg make it work correctly?
