[Bug 91179] Re: [can-not-install] file overwrite failure
I think conflicting with tau is not a good choice. Looking at the related Debian bug, this bug should be addressed renaming pprof in google-pprof (or similar). I have the seen the same issues running Ubuntu on my Inspiron 9300. Now, I'm running Gutsy and my main complaint with sound is that the mute button on the front of the laptop doesn't mute the bass speaker by default; only the main speakers, so it distorts or sounds funny and there's no quick way to mute the machine without opening the volume manager and dragging PCM control all the way down. Even then, if the volume manager in Rhythmbox isn't all the way down, you can still hear sound. Not good sound, but it's definitely audible and not at all muted. [Bug 59695] Re: High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime
First, thanks for good comments Brian I have a complete business support in DELL, and I called them friday to tell them about the problem. Here is their solution : We're coming to replace your HD. So, at least in the Business support, they do not consider the problem ! Pretty strange when we know that they sell some of their computer with Ubuntu or Red Hat on it ! I should test (if I have time during christmas) to exhange my HD from my old computer (which is not suffuring the bug) with the new one in the DELL. I would like to see if on it I can manage to ugly fix it or if there is a problem at all. This could tell us if some HD are completely out of control (I mean, we cannot change the behavior). [Bug 137809] Re: Split View in dolphin causes the right panel to double size
Hi folks, sorry for all these inconviniences, but at the moment I have really no time to code on D3lphin because of personal issues :-( So here my serious appeal to the package maintainer not to use D3lphin in this state for Kubuntu 8.04 LTS as default file manager, because the KDE 4 Dolphin is more stable, less buggy, has more features and is better to use. Maybe you can use that one. If one wants to help with D3lphin, send me a mail and I can give you SVN access, maybe there are people with more time than me. [Bug 140619] Re: [Gutsy] OpenOffice.org : Unknown error forking main binary / abnormal early exit
Had the same error yesterday with the latest updates, tried all the recommendations, removing, purging and then reinstalling all the oo package, used the gconf tool, changed the GTK_IM_MODULE, even tried with the fonts elimination found on some forums, still didn't work. I did an strace to the main open office executable and then I found that it was looking for some libflac8 library and then it segfaults (weird since it is and audio library), checked the list of updates and there it was, a security update for that library, went back to the previous version digging through the packages available at http://packages.ubuntu.com/ and after downgrading the library all problems dissapeared and openoffice went back to normal. I'm not sure if it is the same cause for all, but at least that way we can get to know what is causing those issues. In case anyone wants to try, this is the command line: strace /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin That way we can get to catch those pesky errors. And if someone wants to know where the old libflac8 version is, here is the link: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/f/flac/libflac8_1.2.1-1ubuntu1_i386.deb The weird thing is, I have the latest version on my laptop and it works fine. -- [Gutsy] OpenOffice.org : Unknown error forking main binary / abnormal early exit https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/140619 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
