[Bug 91179] Re: [can-not-install] file overwrite failure

2007-12-17 Thread Luca Falavigna
I think conflicting with tau is not a good choice. Looking at the
related Debian bug, this bug should be addressed renaming pprof in
google-pprof (or similar). This change will probably require man pages
modifications too.

[Bug 160669] Re: Langton's Ant saver doesn't show up in xScreensaver list

2007-12-17 Thread Tormod Volden
Actually it seems like it has been taken away from the preferences
(application defaults) in the upstream release. I will ask there.
Ideally you should be able to use either xscreensaver or gnome-
screensaver together with the other xscreensaver-{data,data-extra,gl}
packages, although gnome-screensaver is Ubuntu's out-of-the-box
selection.

[Bug 176862] unsorted country list

2007-12-17 Thread Oliver Sauder
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gworldclock

gworldclock gets the country list (Add Timezone) from
/usr/share/zoneinfo/iso3166.tab. This file is ordered by country-codes and not
by countries. Therefore the country list in gworldclock is ordered by
country-codes too even though it shows you only the country names.
This order makes it difficult to find the right country.
e. g. You choose continent Asia and want to add Cambodia, which appears in list
close to Korea instead of close to China.

I've developed a patch which orders the country list. You'll find this
patch against version 1.4.4-6 attached.

  * Hopefully fix disabling Java support on ARM for real this time.
  * Disable Java on m68k as well.
  * Revisit debhelper calls and simplify.
  * Convert debian/copyright and debian/libbrlapi0.5.copyright to UTF-8.
  * Update Standards-Version to 3.7.3 (no changes).
  * Fix debian/rules so that dpkg-buildpackage -j2 does not fail.
  * Make python-brlapi part of section python.

[Bug 176736] Re: Tuxguitar isn't building, missing dependency

2007-12-17 Thread Jochen Kemnade
Could you please modify the java depends to make it run with icedtea?

-Depends: sun-java6-jre | sun-java5-jre, libswt-gtk-3.2-java, libitext-java
+Depends: sun-java6-jre | sun-java5-jre | icedtea-java7-jre ,
libswt3.2-gtk-java, libitext-java

I checked that it runs fine using the icedtea jre. I'm not sure, whether
it also builds using the icedtea jdk.

Maybe the dependencies could even be altered from the specific java
distribution packages to java-runtime | java1-runtime | java2-runtime?

Re: [Bug 156184] Re: vol_id takes way too long to finish on unavailable SCSI devices

2007-12-17 Thread Tore Anderson
* Kay Sievers

Scott, can you build a test package with this patch for Tore?

So Tore can test, if it makes the timing acceptable on his box.

Don't bother with that... It should be enough to just test vol_id:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# time /tmp/vol_id-udev113orig --export /dev/sdk
/dev/sdk: unknown volume type

real2m1.113s
user0m0.000s
sys 0m0.000s
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# time /tmp/vol_id-udev113patched --export /dev/sdk
/dev/sdk: unknown volume type

real0m6.047s
user0m0.000s
sys 0m0.000s

It's MUCH better with the patch. However I think it is possible to make
it even twice as quick, since it generates two I/O errors still:

Dec 17 09:36:13 cuba kernel: [3942923.936191] end_request: I/O error, dev sdk,
sector 0
Dec 17 09:36:13 cuba kernel: [3942923.946615] Buffer I/O error on device sdk,
logical block 0
Dec 17 09:36:16 cuba kernel: [3942926.955903] end_request: I/O error, dev sdk,
sector 0
Dec 17 09:36:16 cuba kernel: [3942926.966328] Buffer I/O error on device sdk,
logical block 0

In comparsion fdisk -l /dev/sdk takes 3 seconds and only one such
error is logged per invocation.

I can also confirm that the patch does not appear to break anything for
reachable devices:

[Bug 113862] Re: Volume and quality problems with dell inspiron 9300 laptop

2007-12-17 Thread sewmyheadon
I have the seen the same issues running Ubuntu on my Inspiron 9300.
Now, I'm running Gutsy and my main complaint with sound is that the mute
button on the front of the laptop doesn't mute the bass speaker by
default; only the main speakers, so it distorts or sounds funny and
there's no quick way to mute the machine without opening the volume
manager and dragging PCM control all the way down.

Even then, if the volume manager in Rhythmbox isn't all the way down,
you can still hear sound. Not good sound, but it's definitely audible
and not at all muted. Haven't found a fix yet.

[Bug 59695] Re: High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime

2007-12-17 Thread Mathieu HAVEL
First, thanks for good comments Brian

I have a complete business support in DELL, and I called them friday to tell
them about the problem. Here is their solution :
We're coming to replace your HD.

So, at least in the Business support, they do not consider the problem !
Pretty strange when we know that they sell some of their computer with
Ubuntu or Red Hat on it !

I should test (if I have time during christmas) to exhange my HD from my old
computer (which is not suffuring the bug) with the new one in the DELL. I would
like to see if on it I can manage to ugly fix it or if there is a problem at
all.
This could tell us if some HD are completely out of control (I mean, we cannot
change the behavior).

[Bug 137809] Re: Split View in dolphin causes the right panel to double size

2007-12-17 Thread Marcel Juhnke
Hi folks,

sorry for all these inconviniences, but at the moment I have really no
time to code on D3lphin because of personal issues :-(

So here my serious appeal to the package maintainer not to use D3lphin
in this state for Kubuntu 8.04 LTS as default file manager, because the
KDE 4 Dolphin is more stable, less buggy, has more features and is
better to use. Maybe you can use that one.

If one wants to help with D3lphin, send me a mail and I can give you SVN
access, maybe there are people with more time than me. Still wondering
if it was a good idea to take over maintaining of D3lphin :-( Sorry.

Best regards,
Marcel Juhnke

[Bug 176736] Re: Tuxguitar isn't building, missing dependency

2007-12-17 Thread Jochen Kemnade
I just tried building the package using the icedtea jdk, and it works. As to
the Makefile, I hardcoded the location of the swt.jar:
-SWT_JAR?=${JAR_DIR}swt.jar
+SWT_JAR?=/usr/lib/java/swt.jar
Of course, this is a quick and dirty fix, but it makes the package build.

[Bug 140619] Re: [Gutsy] OpenOffice.org : Unknown error forking main binary / abnormal early exit

2007-12-17 Thread Iván Campaña
Had the same error yesterday with the latest updates, tried all the
recommendations, removing, purging and then reinstalling all the oo
package, used the gconf tool, changed the GTK_IM_MODULE, even tried with
the fonts elimination found on some forums, still didn't work.

I did an strace to the main open office executable and then I found that
it was looking for some libflac8 library and then it segfaults (weird
since it is and audio library), checked the list of updates and there it
was, a security update for that library, went back to the previous
version digging through the packages available at
http://packages.ubuntu.com/ and after downgrading the library all
problems dissapeared and openoffice went back to normal.

I'm not sure if it is the same cause for all, but at least that way we
can get to know what is causing those issues.

In case anyone wants to try, this is the command line:

strace /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin

That way we can get to catch those pesky errors.

And if someone wants to know where the old libflac8 version is, here is the
link:
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/f/flac/libflac8_1.2.1-1ubuntu1_i386.deb

The weird thing is, I have the latest version on my laptop and it works
fine.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that

[Bug 176889] k3b 1.0.4 in KDE 3.5.8 doesn't verify disc after burning

2007-12-17 Thread fgcc
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: k3b

k3b 1.0.4 doesn't seem to be able to verify the CDs/DVDs that I burn after
burning them. I already enabled the 'verify after burning' option. But after
k3b ejects my discs after a successful burn operation, it doesn't continue to
verify them. That is, only 50% overall progress gets done.
I tried reinstalling (and even purging) k3b, k3b related software, cdrecord
etc. just to give my Ubuntu 7.10 a 'start from zero' state when it comes to
scanning my DVD drives. However, that too didn't work.
Please help.
Thanks.

[Bug 176891] Power off button disappeared, so did restart.

2007-12-17 Thread Djihed
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

power off and reboot buttons are not present in system menu.

When I click that, I only get options to logout, switch user or cancel.

I googled a lot and tried various solution. Like question #966 and
related bugs.

Also:

$ gdmflexiserver -a -c QUERY_LOGOUT_ACTION
OK HALT;REBOOT;SUSPEND

Show Actions Menu is enabled.

There is no SystemMenu=false in gdm config files.

[Bug 176892] Select the search box when the tray icon is clicked

2007-12-17 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tracker

I have been using the Tracker tray icon for a couple of days and many
times I click it and start writing the search terms right away. I think
that the search box should appear selected when you click the icon, and
previous searches highlighted, to make searching handier.

It would also be convenient to have the box disappear when you perform a
search, e.g. when you enter a search term and hit intro.

[Bug 176893] Please sync yaws 1.73-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2007-12-17 Thread Marco Rodrigues
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yaws

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
- It should fix Bug #97431 and Bug #131774.
- The current Hardy version is too old and miss a lot of fixes from Debian.
- Debian has last Ubuntu change about init script to create directory
/var/run/yaws on start.
- It builds fine in Hardy pbuilder.

yaws (1.73-2) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Remove /etc/mail/yaws-webmail.conf if it wasn't modified by a user when
upgrading from pre-split yaws package (version 1.66-1 or older). This
config file is moved to yaws-mail package and therefore isn't needed in
 main package anymore (closes: #454962).
   * Moved yaws pages cache from /var/run/yaws (which may be on a tmpfs) to
/var/cache/yaws and create /var/run/yaws in init.d script if necessary
 (closes: #456300).
   * Added Homepage field to debian control file.

yaws (1.73-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream bugfix release.
   * Removed patch which fixed SSL connections as it is included into upstream
 distribution.

yaws (1.70-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release.
   * Replaced deprecated ${Source-Version} substitution variable by
 ${binary:Version} in debian control file.
   * Rewritten clean target in debian/rules to ignore only missing Makefile
error (in fact, it is a missing include.mk error).
   * Made clean-patched target in debian/rules depend on patch-stamp.
   * Redefined HOME environment variable to fix Erlang compiler warnings in
case when HOME points to an existent inaccessible directory.

yaws (1.68-5) unstable; urgency=low

   [ Sergei Golovan ]
   * Fixed licence agreement in debian/copyright (closes: #440402).
   * Added Sergei Golovan [EMAIL PROTECTED] to uploaders list.
   * Bumped debhelper compatibility level to 5.

yaws (1.68-4) unstable; urgency=low

   [ Sergei Golovan ]
   * Added dependency on erlang ABI virtual package.
   * Relaxed dependency on erlang-dev (moved it to Suggests from Recommends).
   * Added Yaws homepage to the package description.
   * Added build-indep and build-arch targets to debian/rules.

[Bug 139955] Re: prboom hangs a few second after starting a game

2007-12-17 Thread Rob Watson
I can confirm this. X hangs as soon as the opening level starts. I can
switch to a text console and 'kill -9 prboom PID', but switching back,
X is in 640x480 resolution (if I'm lucky?). Didn't run it with
'-nofullscreen' (shouldn't have to).

This might be a dupe of Bug #101936, but without the sigsegv. Then
again, it might not.
