Possibly. I think there is no default setting for the html mimetype
which means it applies the ask whether to save and the open in
application settings, which is actually the cause for this issue.

[Bug 189502] [NEW] Packaging request for Columbia Esterel Compiler

2008-02-06 Thread Julien Boucaron
Public bug reported:

HomePage: http://www1.cs.columbia.edu/~sedwards/cec/

The Columbia Esterel Compiler is an open-source compiler designed for research
in both hardware and software generation from the Esterel synchronous language.
It currently supports a subset of so-called Esterel V5, and can generate a C
program or a Verilog or BLIF circuit description from an Esterel program.
It is implemented in C++ using the ANTLR parser generator (version 2.7.2) and
the expat XML parsing library (version 1.95). It makes heavy use of modern C++
features such as namespaces, templates, and the standard library. Building it
requires gcc 3 or above. As of the 0.3 release, ANTLR is not necessary to
compile the system from source.
Its design is modular. Each pass is a standalone executable invoked by the cec
script. The passes communicate through XML files generated from internal data
structures by the IR package.

Copy-pasting the shell command from the package description has proven
to not always be easy enough, see link in my previous message. If you
don't think that's sufficient justification, feel free to close the bug,
 of course.

Well, this script would be in the kvm package, correct? The init script
in that package already provides this check whenever it's run.

I could add a check option to the init script to give roughly the same
output as you suggest.. Would that make you happy? :)

[Bug 189500] [NEW] erorr in /etc/init.d/kdm-kde4

2008-02-06 Thread Martin Gräßlin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdm-kde4

Just switched to kde-kde4 in 4.0.1. When trying to start /etc/init.d
/kdm-kde4 I receive the error that genkdmconf-kde4 does not exists. And
there is no such file in /usr/bin but there is a genkdmconf in
/usr/lib/kde4/bin

I changed my /etc/init.d/kdm-kde4 to have /usr/lib/kde4/bin in the PATH
and use genkdmconf instead of genkdmconf-kde4. But I think it would be
better to have the wrapper script in /usr/bin...

I don't understand it, but I could not switch back to kdm 3.5. I tried
dpkg-reconfigure kdm and dpkg-reconfigure kdm-kde4. I selected kdm in
both, but every time I tried to use /etc/init.d/kdm restart I received a
kdm is not the default display manager. Really strange.

Re: [Bug 189183] Re: sshd hardcodes SSHD_PAM_SERVICE

2008-02-06 Thread Tore Anderson
* Colin Watson

You might like to be aware that the Debian maintainer and the main
Ubuntu maintainer for openssh are the same person, namely me. Having a
go at Debian in Ubuntu bug reports often does not get the response you
 might be looking for ...

I was aware of that. No offence intended. I apologise if you felt that
way.

Red Hat, SuSE, and probably most other distros, are using the default
PAM config file location with no ill effects. This modification is
undisputedly eccentric to Debian (and by extension Ubuntu).

I could not think of any sound technical reason for making such a change
in the first place, and at the same time it's fairly obvious that it was
not an accident either. Whenever I stumble across «Debianisms» such as
this one they are usually due to some requirement in the Debian policy,
so I assumed that to be the case here too.

Since Ubuntu isn't bound to the Debian policy, I was hoping that the
Ubuntu packages could be changed back to the match the upstream default
and established practise of using /etc/pam.d/`basename $0` as the PAM
configuration file location.

[Bug 189504] [NEW] snmpd eats memory

2008-02-06 Thread airween
Public bug reported:

Here are several Ubuntu 7.10 server, them have snmpd. Snmpd runs with
this options:

/usr/sbin/snmpd -Lsd -Lf /dev/null -u snmp -I -smux -p
/var/run/snmpd.pid

After few days, on those systems the size of free memory looks like
decrease (we look them with several tools, like cacti, and top also
shows up, snmpd eats about 3-4% of total memory).

Here are some output when I have restarted snmpd:

# free
 total used free sharedbuffers cached
Mem:775568 567488 208080 0 190412 119996
-/+ buffers/cache: 257080 518488
Swap: 979832 0 979832

output of top:
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND
13453 snmp 15 0 20444 16m 2376 S 0.0 2.7 3:12.69 snmpd

# /etc/init.d/snmpd stop

# free
 total used free sharedbuffers cached
Mem:775568 412464 363104 0 190412 12
-/+ buffers/cache: 102052 673516
Swap: 979832 0 979832

# /etc/init.d/snmpd start

# free
 total used free sharedbuffers cached
Mem:775568 413604 361964 0 190412 12
-/+ buffers/cache: 103192 672376
Swap: 979832 0 979832

After the restart the top command shows up:

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND
28655 snmp 15 0 7500 4320 2376 S 0.0 0.6 0:01.09 snmpd

When we sense this first time, one of those systems has crashed - the system
has ran out of memory.
After this affair we look those systems, which has snmpd, and restart the
service on every week.

We didn't find with this effect on any other Linux (including Ubuntu)
version.

Any suggestion?

Thanks:

airween

[Bug 86642] Re: usplash on ubuntu 6.10 amd64 doesn't display 1024x768 theme.

2008-02-06 Thread Saïvann Carignan
Thanks for your participation to ubuntu.

Launchpad Malone is designed to help developers to work around bugs. From the
description of your bug report, I think that what you search for is answers and
support. I suggest that you take a look here :
https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usplash/
You will get more chances to get your answers and people will be happy to
assist you there.

I can already say to you that modification to the /etc/usplash.conf file
does not take place if you don't type this on a terminal : sudo update-
initramfs -u . You can also use the graphical startupmanager tool which
you can download by typing this on a terminal : sudo apt-get install
startupmanager

Feel free to report any other bugs you might find.

[Bug 86103] Re: azureus- java: xcb_xlib.c:50: xcb_xlib_unlock: Assertion `c-xlib.lock' failed.

2008-02-06 Thread Matthew Wardrop
There is a work around posted at:
http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6532373 .

QUOTE:
I worked with jcristau and christoph4 via IRC on #debian-x, and we managed to
track down the problem with broken locking in Sun Java 1.5 and 1.6. It only
occurs if Java finds the Xinerama extension, at which point it does something
broken with locking and triggers the assertion. If Java never finds the
Xinerama extension, it doesn't trigger the assertion for broken locking.

The following workarounds address this problem:

For sun-java5-bin:
sed -i 's/XINERAMA/FAKEEXTN/g'
/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0.11/jre/lib/i386/xawt/libmawt.so

For sun-java6-bin:
sed -i 's/XINERAMA/FAKEEXTN/g'
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.00/jre/lib/i386/xawt/libmawt.so

The same fix (applied to the appropriate file) might work for other
proprietary JDKs.

- Josh Triplett
END QUOTE.

It worked for me.

Kind Regards,
Matthew

Re: [Bug 173190] Re: firefox does not render some pages some of the time

2008-02-06 Thread empraptor
I ran into this bug again and made a few more observations.

Was using Firefox 2.0.0.11 on Ubuntu 7.10 to view

http://www.domainbyproxy.com/

First tab displaying this bug was grey. Opened a few tabs to browse other
sites and they were fine. Afterwards, directed browser to the problematic
URL on a new tab. The bug displayed there also, except the page was white
instead of grey. All subsequent tabs with bug displayed white.

Refreshing, retyping the URL, etc all resulted in the same symptoms - the
document is retrieved as evidenced by the title bar but the page is not
displayed and no context menu appears when right-clicking within the tab.

http://www.domainbyproxy.com/index.html

gives me a 404 page but the bug is still there.

View-View Source opens source window but does not show any content
initially.

Maximizing, restoring, or resizing the browser/source window will cause
page/source to render. This remedy works only if the tab is in focus.
Changing size of parent window while another tab is in focus does not render
the page on the tab with bug.

Once the page is rendered correctly on a tab, I wasn't able to recreate the
bug on the same tab. Bug continues to occur on new tabs, though.

After some time, the bug could not be produced again.

Dunno what's special about the website that could cause this problem. The
domain name? DOCTYPE declaration? Character encoding?

Maybe the problem lies with a component involved in rendering to display
area which is shared by both page and source view windows.

Could it be the proprietary ATI driver I'm using? But in that case can't
think why the bug applies just to certain sites and doesn't happen all the
time.

-Paul

[Bug 133363] Re: suspend-to-ram problems with fglrx module loaded

2008-02-06 Thread Anders Lund
2.6.24-5-generic kernel
Hardy updated as of today.
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility X1400
Lenovo T60 laptop

What I see is:
 * I can suspend and resume when I've got the login screen of GDM
 * I can suspend but NOT resume when I've logged on and working in X environment

Using fglrx without compiz (haven't been able to enable desktop effects
without Xgl yet)

In /etc/default/acpi-support I have:
SAVE_VBE_STATE=false
POST_VIDEO=false
RADEON_LIGHT=true
(tried different mix of changes to acpi-support, but nothing seems to work)

[Bug 188878] Re: Utility to see if kvm acceleration can be used

2008-02-06 Thread Lars Wirzenius
I don't think running /etc/init.d/kvm start is as easy as running
kvm-ok (or whatever command name you choose). It also tries to load a
kernel module, which may be an unwanted side effect, but that's easily
fixable by adding a new argument (/etc/init.d/kvm check or something).

If you add the command, you could call it from the init.d script, and
centralize the checking.

[Bug 189509] [NEW] Desktop Appearances Properties crashes repeatedly - gnome-appearance-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in XSetCloseDownMode()

2008-02-06 Thread Motin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

This is a fully (for me at least) reproducable crash. Steps to
reproduce:

Right-click on desktop - Change wallpaper - Crash within a minute or
some seconds

This bug invalidates Bug #187337 which is the same but for which I
wasn't sure what I was doing when the crash happens. Turned out that
nothing needs to be done but wait after having launched gnome-
appearance-properties.
