well, for now I decided not to try the mic anymore. I will just wait for a major solution to come. I also tired the live cd, no solution. I have to finish all updates first) So, I will just for now:( -and I know that ubuntu is really good at using hardware, I tried a couple of other distros which gave me nightmares(especially suse). We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. [Bug 196278] Re: driver scheda video ati
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively [WWW] http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at [WWW] http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 119672] Re: Gutsy Gibbon and FN keys on Sony Vaio
Aaaah, crap!! Since last weeks hardy heron update to kernel 2.6.24-10-generic the power management on my Sony Vaio VGN-FS195VP seems again rather broken. First of all the possibility to set the dimming precentage for battery mode in the gnome-power-manager has simply disappeared! Why the hell did this happen? It was there since I first installed the Hardy Heron Alpha 1 and it was working perfectly. And second: If I pull out the power cable the computer goes into power save mode - but there is no dimming of the screen which - as I recall - should be part of the power saving process. To me, it is sometimes an enigma why things that are working perfectly are changed again to the worse. I am well aware that the seems to be major challenge to get the kernel, the sony modules, hal and finally gnome together to work smoothly. So I hope this will be solved again with some of the next updates ... fingers crossed, folks!! -- Gutsy Gibbon and FN keys on Sony Vaio https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/119672 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: hal hal did not get a new upstream release for about half a year, so we piled up lots of patches and are missing 5 months worth of upstream fixes (who has been very active). Thus Debian and us started to package a git head snapshot. Just today David Zeuthen (main upstream) confirmed that it is time for 0.5.11: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/hal/2008-March/010975.html, so if we get our git snapshot into Hardy now, then there is a good chance to get in 0.5.11 without much pain, since it will only be a couple of fixes. I attach the relevant part of the upstream changelog, which has ~ 100 fixes, many of them highly relevant for Ubuntu. There is only three commits which we didn't have as patch yet and which can be considered features: commit 3831b5b4076d0a1dcfa7bfec5e67b6e727d69c92 Author: Holger Macht [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Thu Feb 7 18:54:17 2008 +0100 new interface org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.DockStation Change the platform_add method to an add 'info.docked' property to all dock devices. [Bug 131094] Re: Heavy Disk I/O harms desktop responsiveness
I have tried the vanilla kernel (2.6.22-14) on Gutsy. Now I get better disc performance, (ext3 / bs=10 ~4MB/s / bs=100 7MB/s), but desktop responsiveness becomes worse. I have tried Hardy too for a while and recognise, that the responsiveness of the desktop is sometimes worse than under gutsy, even when there is no or light disc access only. Sometimes the gnome menu needs about 2 seconds before it appears. And there are only logos and metadata to load. This are the problems as in gutsy and especially in gusty with 2.6.22 kernel. Hdparm reposts, that UDMA is on. And there is only iowait cpu consume on lowest cpu frequency and a great disc performace, when coping a normal blocksize (= 4k) with dd. Compiz is disabled on every of my installation. I use a 64-bit version of gutsy and hardy. I don't know the internal design of the linux kernel, so it's only a guess of mine. There must be a bottleneck, which is especially caused by high disc access, but also occurs on other activities. Perhaps interrupt handling. Powertop reports ~400 awaking of the keyboard while copying to files from one partition to another partition with a block size of 4k and writing this text. And I am writing only maximal two or three letters per second. And the count is only as high, when coping the files. Without disc access there are only about 200 awaking, while writing in the same speed. With two writing and two reading disc access 38,9% (445,7) interrupt : PS/2 keyboard/mouse/touchpad 17,5% (200,7) interrupt : extra timer interrupt 14,5% (165,8) interrupt : libata 8,8% (100,5) interrupt : uhci_hcd:usb1, eth0 Without high io access 31,2% (213,6) interrupt : extra timer interrupt 25,6% (175,2) interrupt : PS/2 keyboard/mouse/touchpad 14,7% (100,5) interrupt : uhci_hcd:usb1, eth0 8,9% ( 60,8) interrupt : uhci_hcd:usb3, ahci, yenta, nvidia -- Heavy Disk I/O harms desktop responsiveness https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131094 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
