[Bug 201776] Re: Syntax highlighting for LaTeX fails on existent *.tex-files on Hardy

2008-03-26 Thread Matthias Metzger
Hi,

I think I just found out what the problem is. In almost every of my .tex
files I have a comment on the first lines like

line 1: % Essay by Matthias Metzger
line 2: % Date: 08-03-26
line 3:
line 4: \documentclass[]{}...

When I open these files the syntax isn't highlighted, even when I save them
once more.
But when I remove the comment and save them, the syntax is highlighted.
I found two old files without comment at the beginning and there the
highlighting works perfect.
Well, I installed for testing purposes a latex-plugin for gedit
(http://live.gnome.org/Gedit/LaTeXPlugin) and that also detects the commented
files and highlights them as .tex-files.
I attach a file with such a comment, that isn't highlighted.

Regards
Matthias Metzger

2008-03-26 Thread mcas
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively [WWW] http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd
be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the
problem.

With your informations i cannot reproduce the bug.
Wich ubuntu version are you using? Which version of epiphany are you using?

2008-03-26 Thread fargiolas
I've experienced the same problem after upgrading from gusty to hardy a couple
of days ago.
I've removed 70-persistent-net.rules to force udev to regenerate it and the
boot delay disappeared.
Maybe old rules cleanup should be automated at upgrade time?

[Bug 207010] Re: Program abandoned - please update to Stepmania

2008-03-26 Thread Caroline Ford
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 135874 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/135874

i'm going to merge this bug in with the one requesting that stepmania is
packaged. If you want to make a case that pydance is so bad that it
needs to be removed from the archives (and potentially not replaced with
anything) then you'll need to file a new bug.

The argument against packaging stepmania seem to be that the themes
are/were totally ripped from commercial software.

2008-03-26 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

There is no need in listing cities that are wrong.

Almost all cities are incorrect, as the timezone that is nearest the

[Bug 207122] [NEW] file created on fat32 is corrupt in XP

2008-03-26 Thread ed-ong
Public bug reported:

I am using Hardy Beta.

After copying a file to FAT32 partition, I reboot into Windows to access
the file. The file is missing, then a reboot back to Ubuntu will find
that the file also does not exist anymore in Ubuntu.

To compare, if, after copying a file to FAT32 partition i instead reboot
back to Ubuntu Hardy, the file is still there.

The sharing partition has files from January, therefore I suspect that the
situation was okay upto Ubuntu Alpha 3.
To troubleshoot, i have run chkdsk /f from Windows before performing the
above file copy.

As a reference, this is the mount info (mounted by hal):--
/dev/sda6 on /media/12_5SHARE type vfat (rw, nosuid, nodev, uhelper=hal,
shortname=mixed, uid=1000, utf8, umask=077,flush)

I have also tried mounting the disk via:-
   sudo mount -t vfat /dev/sda6 /media/sda6

[Bug 207124] [NEW] 2.6.24 hard lock while using Option UMTS card

2008-03-26 Thread Charles
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image

I'm using:
* ii  linux-image-2.6.24-12-generic  2.6.24-12.22
* PCMCIA UMTS Option card

When the card is inserted in the slot, nothing special happens. But
after setting up an PPP connection, I do get random lock-ups, and I mean
hard lock ups. The system does not respond to SysRq anymore.

Switching back to 2.6.22 kernel (Gutsy) the problem does not occur. More
information and debugging information I don't have at this moment, but
I'm willing to provide more information.

Below the messages from /var/log/syslog while inserting the card.
Unfortunately no kernel panic or other logs in /var/log/syslog at the
moment of the crash.

This was shortly after installing the 8.04 beta for the first time.

[Bug 110246] Re: Firefox main window losing focus performing certain tasks on gmail

2008-03-26 Thread John Vivirito
Nattgew please add the link in a comment.
What version of firefox does this happen with and is it only gmail that shows
this problem? Im not seeing by the complaints how this is related to firefox if
it depends on what version of gmail you are using. If google changed the
behavour of gmail than it is a bug on googles code not firefox. Please try to
reproduce with other web browsers (opera, epiphany,seamonkey,ect..) from Ubuntu
repos and let me know if same problem is present.

[Bug 207127] [NEW] fn key doesn't work in hardy with macbook pro fourth generation (4, 1)

2008-03-26 Thread Eitan
Public bug reported:

hardware: macbook pro generation 4,1 (feb 2008)
problem: fn key not detected
test: run xev. press fn key. nothing happens.
consequences: home/end/pgup/pgdown don't work.

i was able to fix this issue by compiling my own kernel.
i downloaded linux-source from ubuntu hardy
(VERSION = 2,PATCHLEVEL = 6,SUBLEVEL = 24,EXTRAVERSION = .3)

and revised this file:
 drivers/hid/usbhid/hid-quirks.c

used lsusb to grab the id of the internal keyboard device:
Bus 005 Device 003: ID 05ac:0230 Apple Computer, Inc.

and revised the c file accordingly:

/* next line commented out by eitan and replaced with line below;
changing address for device from 0x021b to 0x0230 which is what lsusb tells me
my internal keyboard device id actually is
#define USB_DEVICE_ID_APPLE_GEYSER4_ISO 0x021b
 */
#define USB_DEVICE_ID_APPLE_GEYSER4_ISO 0x0230

rebooting with the new kernel, the fn key now works.
i don't know if this breaks other versions of the macbook pro
and am otherwise ignorant of the linux kernel source code.

thanks,
/ eitan

[Bug 207125] [NEW] [hardy] libopenmpi-dev creates dangling symlink in /etc/alternatives

2008-03-26 Thread Morten Kjeldgaard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libopenmpi-dev

When libopenmpi-.dev is installed, it creates the following dangling
pointers in /etc/alternatives:

slave libmpi.so: /usr/lib/openmpi/lib/libmpi.so.0
slave libmpi++.so: /usr/lib/openmpi/lib/libmpi_cxx.so.0

(clipped from update-alternatives --display mpi output)

The *.so.0 files are non-existing. In fact, the .so.0 library is meant
for the loader and should never be used for linking. These links must be
corrected so they point to the correct .so targets.

[Bug 207128] [NEW] Inkscape can not maximize in 1024x768

2008-03-26 Thread ischnura
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: inkscape

Just installed Hardy and Inkscape from the repositories.

I am using a resolution of 1024x768

The default layout of the Inkscape toolbars make the height of the

For this reason I can not maximize the Inkscape window.

[Bug 206630] Re: merge flamerobin-0.8.6 from debian

2008-03-26 Thread Mariuz
we tested the version from debian unstable and it worked without problem , i
will atach an buildlog and screenshots
this is an stable version that fixes many bugs that are described in the
changelog
Also the main developers recommend that this version should replace and 0.8.1
or 0.8.3 versions in the main linux distributions
In fact Debian and gentoo already includes this new stable version
Also it doesn't affect the other packages in the distro.
Yes i was late with this report , i first tested it and used it from my ppa
repository and waited then the debian version to be published

[Bug 207138] [NEW] Malayalam: is a pre-processor required?

2008-03-26 Thread JasonVenkiteswaran
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: texlive-lang-indic

The description for texlive-lang-indic says, malayalam -- Fonts for
typesetting Malayalam, with a pre-processor.

Does this mean that the pre-processor is required? If so, is it
included in the package?

The malayalam package and help file (mm-usr-0.9.6.pdf) over at sarovar
(http://sarovar.org/frs/?group_id=17release_id=795) indicate that the
LaTeX file gets saved as a .mm file. Then the the script mal is run on
that .mm file. The resulting output is a .tex file that can be
processed with latex or pdftex. BUT, the mal script and the mlym binary
that it calls are not packaged with texlive-lang-indic.

If i grab the latest version malayalam-0.9.6.tar.gz from sarovar and
install it, then i have the mal script and mlym binary. But I had
expected them to be installed with texlive-lang-indic since
/usr/bin/devnag and /usr/bin/ebong are installed as part of texlive-
lang-indic.

This is all with Ubuntu 7.10 and texlive-lang-indic 2007-12ubuntu3.1.

[Bug 207135] [NEW] pulseaudio uses too much CPU

2008-03-26 Thread Guillaume Desmottes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

Pulseaudio uses between 6 and 8% of my CPU (AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor
3500+) when I'm just listening music using Rhythmbox. Seems too much
IMHO.

[Bug 207134] [NEW] dumping a kernel crash dump to a file does not work

2008-03-26 Thread cedric milesi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kexec-tools

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 7.10
Release:7.10

kexec-tools:
  Installed: 20070330-1ubuntu2
  Candidate: 20070330-1ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 20070330-1ubuntu2 0
500 ftp://ftp.free.fr gutsy/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

What happens:
- when forcing a crash the (crash) kernel is indeed started
- but it fails to copy /dev/vmcore to /var/log/crash

Reason:
the cp version in initramfs does not support the flag --sparse=always which is
used in /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-bottom/0_kdump

Fix: removing the flag does solve the issue (but a better solution might
be to update the cp version present in initramfs.)

I also put the patch below
