[Bug 213482] Re: Dapper to Hardy upgrade fails with slapd
The database gets dumped/reloaded because the format changes. The libldap-2.2-7 that is needed to make slapcat work is removed because it depends on libsasl2 that is no longer available (replaced with libsasl2-2) and it has a exact version dependency on the libsasl2-modules packages (libsasl2 has the same for its version). [Bug 208419] Re: Integrate samba password in PAM
The necessary changes to pam have been uploaded, but now there's a question of how to go about incorporating the libpam-smbpass package so that the password synchronization actually takes place. I've spoken with Kees Cook about the security implications, and he strongly discourages enabling libpam-smbpass password synchronization by default on the grounds that the NTLM password hashing is weaker than the Unix password hashing. I've conceded this point, so I think the correct thing to do here is to install libpam-smbpass at the same time that samba is installed. For servers this means making it part of the samba- server task, and for desktops that means hooking into nautilus-share so that it will install both packages when filesharing is requested. In the desktop case, we may want to provide users with some notice about the fact that not all users will automatically have passwords available; however, because the PAM integration will auto-sync passwords from the Unix password store to the Samba password store on every successful /authentication/, not just on password changes, if bug #212098 is addressed then this already takes care of the problem for most desktop users. ** Changed in: nautilus-share (Ubuntu Hardy) Importance: Undecided = Medium Assignee: (unassigned) = Ubuntu Desktop (ubuntu-desktop) Status: New = Confirmed ** Changed in: ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu Hardy) Importance: Undecided = Medium Status: New = Confirmed ** Changed in: nautilus-share (Ubuntu Hardy) Assignee: Ubuntu Desktop (ubuntu-desktop) = Ubuntu Desktop Bugs (desktop-bugs) -- Integrate samba password in PAM https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/208419 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is a direct subscriber. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 155947] Re: ldap config causes Ubuntu to hang at a reboot
Okay, snapshot of conclusions at this point... (1) Any systems Feisty (and earlier) upgraded to Hardy (and later) would require a manual migration of /etc/libnss-ldap.conf and /etc/pam- ldap.conf if either or both of those files exist. (2) None of the 5+ Ubuntu developers who have looked at this bug has successfully reproduced the boot hang aspect of this bug. A boot hang involves a system which is not responsive to a network ping, not responsive to banging keys, and toggling caps-lock/num-lock does not affect the associated LEDs. (That's a crude definition, of course, but some decent guidelines.) ANYONE who is able to reproduce such a boot hang, please respond and attach (a cleansed copy) of: * /var/log/syslog (as retrieved from a subsequent rescue boot) * /etc/ldap.conf * /etc/nsswitch.conf * /etc/libnss-ldap.conf * /etc/pam-ldap.conf (3) We have been able to reproduce a hang on login. I'd argue that this is a functions as designed scenario. If you require an LDAP server to login, and it's not available, logins should not succeed until the target LDAP server becomes available. In the case where you want to relax that requirement, a system can be configured to use a soft bind policy. :-Dustin ** Changed in: libnss-ldap (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- ldap config causes Ubuntu to hang at a reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155947 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is a subscriber of a duplicate bug. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 214440] [NEW] Brightness only works using manual controls
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager I can control display brightness using the keyboard but the settings in Power Manager preferences, seem to be ignored. For example, when I unplug the AC power, the screen dims, but when I plug it back in again, the screen notifier shows the brightness increasing to about 90% (it is set to be 100% on AC power) but in fact the screen remains dimmed and does not actually increase. If I unplug the AC power again, the display brightness decreases and so on until after unplugging the AC power four times, the display brightness is at its lowest level and plugging in AC power makes no difference to the actual brightness. I can rectify this by using the FN-F11 keys. I'm running the latest Hardy updates on a Lenovo 3000 N100. I've attached some logs. This is not a recent problem but started occurring a few weeks ago. [Bug 213868] Re: Security Warning in Wine
Well, I wonder how many people will just click yeah, let's start this awesome movie which is actually a trojan horse, i don't care what windows is telling me, just because I want it so badly. Seriously: 1. If you click on a movie file, or you think it's a movie file, and suddenly firefox/webbrowser of your choice, asks you to open an .exe file with wine, I think the default layer 8 firewall should alarm yourself. (OSI Model only goes up to 7, so think about layer 8 ;)) 2. For having Windows Signature Handling in Wine, we need to have the positive checks too. Means, asking the user when he tries to start an .exe/.msi file, even when it's signed by a known authority, which windows does. 3. What we can easily achieve is, adding an UI wrapper before actually wine will start, but this won't prevent people from having heavily SM Games during pr0n browsing on the internet. What we have to think about is: Wine is not an emulator. It gives users the possibility to run windows applications...it shouldn't be handled as replacement for cheap windows running on Linux. It's a tool not a replacement for an expensive windows license. regards, \sh PS: But yes, I tend to prevent people from commiting suicide, but this is not always their wish. -- Security Warning in Wine https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/213868 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 It seems that every time i print a page i have to change the options for header and footer if I want the page to print without the url, title, page numbers and date. [Bug 214178] Re: USB mounts in a new folder if left plugged in on shutdown
Thi has just started happening to me yesturday on Hardy Herron. On each reboot I end up with a disk_ then disk__ then disk___. I think it is something to do with the permissions of the /media/disk 'file'? This is really annoying because for example my document library is held on the USB disk and rhythmbox cannot find it if it has moved from /media/disk to /media/disk_ . At first it was moving to disk-1 then disk-2 but changed the options to always mount under 'disk' (hence the disk_ and disk__). -- USB mounts in a new folder if left plugged in on shutdown https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/214178 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
