2008-04-09 Thread Nick Barcet
It appears that line 6 of this files defines:
   Port 443:x
I do not believe this is a valid syntax for port definition.
Moreover, are you sure you want ssh to listen on port 443, which is the
default port value for https?

Could you please try to comment out this line from your config file and
test the upgrade process again?

[Bug 213482] Re: Dapper to Hardy upgrade fails with slapd

2008-04-09 Thread Michael Vogt
The database gets dumped/reloaded because the format changes.

The libldap-2.2-7 that is needed to make slapcat work is removed because
it depends on libsasl2 that is no longer available (replaced with
libsasl2-2) and it has a exact version dependency on the
libsasl2-modules packages (libsasl2 has the same for its version). This
force libsasl to be removed and that in turn force libldap to get
removed.

It should be sufficient to rename the libsasl2-modules-$foo packages for
libsasl2-2 to libsasl2-2-modules-$foo to avoid the removal of libsasl2

[Bug 208419] Re: Integrate samba password in PAM

2008-04-09 Thread Steve Langasek
The necessary changes to pam have been uploaded, but now there's a
question of how to go about incorporating the libpam-smbpass package so
that the password synchronization actually takes place.

I've spoken with Kees Cook about the security implications, and he
strongly discourages enabling libpam-smbpass password synchronization by
default on the grounds that the NTLM password hashing is weaker than the
Unix password hashing. I've conceded this point, so I think the correct
thing to do here is to install libpam-smbpass at the same time that
samba is installed. For servers this means making it part of the samba-
server task, and for desktops that means hooking into nautilus-share so
that it will install both packages when filesharing is requested.

In the desktop case, we may want to provide users with some notice about
the fact that not all users will automatically have passwords available;
however, because the PAM integration will auto-sync passwords from the
Unix password store to the Samba password store on every successful
/authentication/, not just on password changes, if bug #212098 is
addressed then this already takes care of the problem for most desktop
users.

former in their depends or suggests.

I ran a upgrade test with the fix (in the kvm auto-tester and it looks
good). It does not break on the upgrade any longer. I will attach the

[Bug 155947] Re: ldap config causes Ubuntu to hang at a reboot

2008-04-09 Thread Jamie Strandboge
ldap-auth-client combined /etc/libnss-ldap.conf and /etc/pam-ldap.conf.
If either or both of these files exist on upgrade, then the user is
prompted with a message to manually migrate the files. From debian
/ldap-auth-config.templates:

Template: ldap-auth-config/move-to-debconf
Type: boolean
Default: true
_Description: Reconfigure LDAP with debconf?
The LDAP authentication libraries now use the new unified configuration
file ${newfn}, and no longer use ${pamfn} or ${nssfn}. One or both of
these old configuration files were found. These files cannot be
automatically migrated to the new ${newfn}. You MUST either reconfigure
 your settings with debconf, or manually migrate your settings into ${newfn}
and verify your configuration before logging out.

[Bug 155947] Re: ldap config causes Ubuntu to hang at a reboot

2008-04-09 Thread Dustin Kirkland
Okay, snapshot of conclusions at this point...

(1) Any systems Feisty (and earlier) upgraded to Hardy (and later) would
require a manual migration of /etc/libnss-ldap.conf and /etc/pam-
ldap.conf if either or both of those files exist.

(2) None of the 5+ Ubuntu developers who have looked at this bug has
successfully reproduced the boot hang aspect of this bug. A boot hang
involves a system which is not responsive to a network ping, not responsive to
banging keys, and toggling caps-lock/num-lock does not affect the associated
LEDs. (That's a crude definition, of course, but some decent guidelines.)
ANYONE who is able to reproduce such a boot hang, please respond and attach (a
cleansed copy) of:
 * /var/log/syslog (as retrieved from a subsequent rescue boot)
 * /etc/ldap.conf
 * /etc/nsswitch.conf
 * /etc/libnss-ldap.conf
 * /etc/pam-ldap.conf

(3) We have been able to reproduce a hang on login. I'd argue that
this is a functions as designed scenario. If you require an LDAP
server to login, and it's not available, logins should not succeed until
the target LDAP server becomes available. In the case where you want to
relax that requirement, a system can be configured to use a soft bind
policy.

Also i would like to know how did you backport postfix, changing the
sources to hardy ones and installing postfix using apt-get or just
downloading the packages and installing them using dpkg

Assuming you mean dovecot, we backported it in the normal way,
i.e. downloading the dovecot source package from hardy, and
recompiling it for dapper and then installing the resulting binaries
with apt/dpkg.

[Bug 204064] Re: [hardy] kernel crash

2008-04-09 Thread tyler
Hi!

Looks like it is a hardware problem. Seems like one of my ram modules
starts producing errors after some hours of activity.

This is odd, as I was running a memtest some weeks ago, which was ok.

So sorry, seems to be my fault.

Thanks for the help.

[Bug 182489] Re: Atheros wireless (AR5007) not working on ASUS Eee PC

2008-04-09 Thread Matt Bamford
The Debian EEE PC team (http://debian-eeepc.alioth.debian.org ,
http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEeePC) has created a package, madwifi-eee
containing the patched version. It builds on Hardy after I built a new
version of madwifi-tools 1:0.9.4~rc2+dfsg-1 from Debian lenny. (Hardy
only has 1:0.9.3+dfsg-3, and madwifi-eee requires 1:0.9.4~rc2+dfsg-1).

Any chance we could see a new updated madwifi-tools for hardy, and then
the madwifi-eee packages included so that EEE (and other AR5007) users
aren't left in the dark?

[Bug 214437] [NEW] Bad dialog design in Open folder

2008-04-09 Thread jhansonxi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ristretto

While testing Xubuntu Hardy 8.04 beta the Firefox menu entry icon didn't
show up, only on the panel. It appeared after an update. Prior to the
update I tried to view /usr/share/pixmaps/firefox-3.0.png using
ristretto 0.0.17 via the open folder icon on toolbar. In the Open
folder dialog the hint for the button used to select manual entry is
Type a file name but after entering the aforementioned full path the
error dialog The folder could not be created is shown. The correct
hint text should indicate Type a directory name and the error dialog
shouldn't be implying a directory creation failure (unless it is trying
to create one which is bizarre). Using the File Open dialog works as
expected.

Essentially that update-manager needs better awareness of the presence

agree then we can mark this bug as a duplicate of 194984 or do you feel
this is a separate issue

[Bug 214440] [NEW] Brightness only works using manual controls

2008-04-09 Thread joss
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I can control display brightness using the keyboard but the settings in
Power Manager preferences, seem to be ignored. For example, when I
unplug the AC power, the screen dims, but when I plug it back in again,
the screen notifier shows the brightness increasing to about 90% (it is
set to be 100% on AC power) but in fact the screen remains dimmed and
does not actually increase. If I unplug the AC power again, the display
brightness decreases and so on until after unplugging the AC power four
times, the display brightness is at its lowest level and plugging in AC
power makes no difference to the actual brightness. I can rectify this
by using the FN-F11 keys.

I'm running the latest Hardy updates on a Lenovo 3000 N100. I've
attached some logs. This is not a recent problem but started occurring a
few weeks ago.

Thank you.

[Bug 208419] Re: Integrate samba password in PAM

2008-04-09 Thread Patrice Vetsel
Patched pam packages seems to not work at all.

patched package installed, and system rebooted, samba installed.

I create an user : popo + pass : popo
i look at samba user with sudo pdbedit -L -w, user is not listed - PROBLEM
i restart samba sudo /etc/init.d/samba restart and, user is still not listed.

Ok. I force creation of user in samba : sudo smbpasswd -a popo and put popo
as password.
i list samba users sudo pdbedit -L -w, popo is listed and encrypted password
is shown. I note it.

I login with popo, change my password and logout.
Be back in admin user, i verify if password is changed with sudo pdbedit -L
-w. No it's always the same - PROBLEM

[Bug 213868] Re: Security Warning in Wine

2008-04-09 Thread Stephan Hermann
Well,

I wonder how many people will just click yeah, let's start this awesome
movie which is actually a trojan horse, i don't care what windows is
telling me, just because I want it so badly.

Seriously:

1. If you click on a movie file, or you think it's a movie file, and suddenly
firefox/webbrowser of your choice, asks you to open an .exe file with wine, I
think the default layer 8 firewall should alarm yourself. (OSI Model only goes
up to 7, so think about layer 8 ;))
2. For having Windows Signature Handling in Wine, we need to have the positive
checks too. Means, asking the user when he tries to start an .exe/.msi file,
even when it's signed by a known authority, which windows does.
3. What we can easily achieve is, adding an UI wrapper before actually wine
will start, but this won't prevent people from having heavily SM Games during
pr0n browsing on the internet.

What we have to think about is: Wine is not an emulator. It gives users
the possibility to run windows applications...it shouldn't be handled as
replacement for cheap windows running on Linux. It's a tool not a
replacement for an expensive windows license.

regards,

\sh

PS: But yes, I tend to prevent people from commiting suicide, but this
is not always their wish.

[Bug 213104] Re: Package internet in ubuntu-docs: press return instead of press enter

Thanks for reporting this bug. Return seems to be the standard name
for this key - not all keyboards have an Enter key (the one on the
numeric keypad), but many do call the Return key Enter. As such, I
don't think that the term should be changed.

Wow! Thanks for the config. It solved the one last problem I had with
fluid. The drums now come through much more clearly instead of being
rather quiet in the background.

[Bug 214178] Re: USB mounts in a new folder if left plugged in on shutdown

2008-04-09 Thread fluteflute
Thi has just started happening to me yesturday on Hardy Herron. On each
reboot I end up with a disk_ then disk__ then disk___. I think it
is something to do with the permissions of the /media/disk 'file'?

This is really annoying because for example my document library is held
on the USB disk and rhythmbox cannot find it if it has moved from
/media/disk to /media/disk_ .

At first it was moving to disk-1 then disk-2 but changed the options to
always mount under 'disk' (hence the disk_ and disk__).

[Bug 214178] Re: USB mounts in a new folder if left plugged in on shutdown

2008-04-09 Thread fluteflute
Sorry I forgot my way of fixing.

My way of 'fixing' this is each reboot I do gksu nautilus and delete
all entries under /media/ that are unused and only accesible by root.
Back in normal user nautilus I unmount the disk_ and remount it.

[Bug 205990] Re: [hardy] splash screen disappears after a few seconds

2008-04-09 Thread Saïvann Carignan
Can someone follow these instructions to get relevant debugging outputs
from usplash?

1. Switch to another tty with CTRL + ALT + F6
2. Start usplash in debug mode with this command : sudo usplash -c -v
/tmp/usplash.log 21
3. Wait few seconds.
4. Go back to your graphical environment and attach the /tmp/usplash.log file
(if it is not empty, of course).

information about it in the future, please feel free to re-open that bug

[Bug 190737] Re: Hi load average using in 8.04a4 NIS/Autofs setup copied from 7.10

2008-04-09 Thread Paul Smith
This is impacting me quite a bit as well. I don't have as many
automount points as robogeek but I see the same issues: my logs are full
of trackerd (I suppose) trying to read mount/.Trash where mount is
an automount point configured in auto.master.

You might check this Gnome bug:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=511474 it contains a patch
(although it's not an attachment so it's not reasonable to apply it). I
haven't tried it but it seems to be on-point for this bug.
