[Bug 97723] Re: winbind-based hostnames broken in feisty

2008-05-06 Thread wolfger
I don't understand why the status on this was incomplete. The definition of
Incomplete is:
# If you have to ask the reporter questions, set the bug to Incomplete
# Ask the submitter to provide any necessary information in a comment, and make
sure you subscribe yourself to the bug report so you will get any updates to
the bug via e-mail.
# In the event that a bug has been in the Incomplete state for more than 4
weeks, meaning it has not received a response to a request for more
information, the bug status should be changed to Invalid

Since the status has been improperly set all this time, I won't go marking
invalid just yet, but the bug is over a year old, so:
Does this bug still exist?

[Bug 227322] Re: [openssh] [CVE-2008-1657] possibility to bypass global ForceCommand directive

2008-05-06 Thread Colin Watson
Already fixed in Hardy/Intrepid and backported to earlier releases.
Please look at the changelog as well as just the version number!

openssh (1:4.7p1-8) unstable; urgency=high

  * Fill in CVE identifier for security vulnerability fixed in 1:4.7p1-5.
  * Rename KeepAlive to TCPKeepAlive in sshd_config, cleaning up from old
configurations (LP: #211400).
  * Tweak scp's reporting of filenames in verbose mode to be a bit less
confusing with spaces (thanks, Nicolas Valcárcel; LP: #89945).
  * Backport from 4.9p1:
- Ignore ~/.ssh/rc if a sshd_config ForceCommand is specified (see
  http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/28531/info).
- Add no-user-rc authorized_keys option to disable execution of
  ~/.ssh/rc.
  * Backport from Simon Wilkinson's GSSAPI key exchange patch for 5.0p1:
- Add code to actually implement GSSAPIStrictAcceptorCheck, which had
somehow been omitted from a previous version of this patch (closes:
  #474246).

I believe this is already on the security team's list for earlier

[Bug 227344] [NEW] bind-dlz und ldap api

2008-05-06 Thread Daniel Paufler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bind9

I was running bind 9.4.1-P1-3 with DLZ and openldap 2.3.35-1 with ubuntu
7.10 (gutsy)

Now i updated to bind 9.4.2 and openldap 2.4.7. My previous config
stopped working with lookup query must specify a search base error.

It seems, that it caused by the ldap API change regarding % sign.

I emailed with the bind-dlz guys. They changed their configuration to
not use % but $. I applied the patch, dpkg-build the package again
and it is working. Can you please put the patch to your binary package
and give out e new version for hardy.

[Bug 227410] [NEW] Catalog Backup fails because .my.cnf is not read

2008-05-06 Thread Hanno Stock (hefe_bia)
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bacula

Actually this is the last point of the original report of bug #207527.
I am opening this as a new bug report, since the other issues of bug #207527
appear to be fixed.

When running the BackupCatalog job, I get the following error:

06-Mai 18:27 baculatestsrv-dir JobId 17: BeforeJob: run command /usr/bin/awk
-f /etc/bacula/scripts/make_catalog_backup_awk -v cat1=MyCatalog
/etc/bacula/bacula-dir.conf

Access denied for user 'bacula'@'localhost' (using password: NO) when trying to
connect

It seems that .my.cnf is not read, since the command is not executed in
a login shell and HOME is not set.

I was able to get the backup running by specifying HOME in the mysqldump
command (see attached patch).

From /etc/passwd:

bacula:x:105:113:Bacula:/var/lib/bacula:/bin/false

But AFAIK running a command in the security context of a user does not
automatically set the home directory.

BTW: I have a fairly clean install of Hardy, since this is a VM
specifically set up for testing bacula before using it for production.

Last version of the kill-all-orphaned-phps workaround attached.

I recommend to run it hourly to catch php parents that die suddenly
AND (more important)
to add it in your /etc/logrotate.d/apache2 in postrotate after apache restart,
because this creates lots of orphaned processes most of the time.

Could you try to purge the slapd package before installing ?

[Bug 227592] [NEW] openssh-server install does not create privilege separation user sshd

2008-05-06 Thread David Munro
Public bug reported:

When I installed the openssh-server package on 8.04, it did not create
the sshd privilege separation user, which causes the /etc/init.d/ssh
script to fail to start sshd at boot time.

The problem turns out to be in the openssh-server.postinst post install
script. This script looks for the presence of user sshd, and does not
run adduser if it already exists. However, I had installed NIS, and my
NIS server had an sshd account; therefore the postinst script did not
add a local sshd user. At reboot, the order of the scripts in
/etc/rc2.d is to first run the ssh script, then run the nis script.
Since nis has not started when ssh runs, there is no user sshd, and the
ssh script fails with a message like, Privilege separation user sshd
does not exist. At install time, however, the NIS server was running,
so sshd started (apparently the remote sshd account is good enough) and
no error was reported.

When I ran the adduser line in openssh-server.postinst by hand, the
problem at boot time goes away, and sshd starts correctly at the next
boot.

I believe the correct fix is to grep for the sshd user in /etc/passwd in
the postinst script, and run adduser to create a local user if it is not
found, rather than using getent to detect the presence of sshd.
(Apparently getent will find an NIS account, which you don't want.) It
makes no sense for the sshd user to be on a remote NIS server; it should
always be a local account.

[Bug 226468] Re: LEAVE my tags the way they are

2008-05-06 Thread Interpreter
It seems to be just Rhythmbox's meta data base.
Ex Falso shows the correct tags, which means according to EF I would not need
to edit the tags in the first place.

So let me rephrase the entire problem:
RB already READS incorrect metadata or at least shows incorrect data; only
files that are affected by that seem to be affected by the editing issue as
well.

[Bug 110125] Re: [nvidia] GL xscreensavers crashed

2008-05-06 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hmm, ok sounds like for at least some people the issue is resolved.
emk2203, I'm curious if you have the crash after fully updating Hardy -
you mentioned upgrading -nvidia, do you mean to Hardy's latest or to a
newer version from nVidia?

Merlin, I can't say for sure if you have the same issue as everyone
else, although it does sound roughly similar. It's possible we have
more than one bug going around though.

Anyway, given that it seems the issue has resolved for at least some
people, I'm going to drop the milestone. I suspect we have a case of a
core main issue plus some similar secondary issues, and that the main
issue resolved.

[Bug 222931] Re: Gparted can't resize NTFS

2008-05-06 Thread shanen (Shannon Jacobs)
I still don't know how to describe it properly... This time I'm trying
to describe the workaround or quasi-fix. After tweaking it for a while,
my hypothesis was that gparted was looking for some information about
the bad clusters which had never been created on the NTFS partition (or
somewhere else?). My theory was that the Windows hard disk utilities
might be able to create the required information, but after that it gets
really fuzzy in a bunch of mysterious Japanese explanations that I
couldn't fully follow. Basically I used the disk checker from inside of
Windows. At first it wouldn't do anything useful, but when I tweaked one
of the few settings it gave me a warning and seed to do something more.
That still wasn't enough to satisfy gparted, but some more reboots
triggered the non-Windows checkdisk function, and after that it appears
that gparted was at least able to find the bad cluster information.

At this point I was mostly working with the latest bootable gparted CD,
but that one was still unable to resize the NTFS partition for some
reason. However, I used the version of gparted on the Hardy Heron CD,
and that was finally able to do it.

P.S. There was still some residual nastiness... I'll give the outline in
case someone else in a similar boat winds up here... The swap partition
had used up my last primary. To make the extended partition I had to
unmount the swap partition that the Hardy Heron bootable CD was using,
destroy the swap partition, shuffle things around, create an extended
partition, and then recreate the swap partition and install Hardy Heron.
However, at that point the original Gutsy Gibbon partition had an fstab
file that referred to a non-existent swap partition, so I had to
manually edit that file to add the swap information from the new Hardy
Heron fstab. So far everything seems to be working properly.

P.P.S. About the ultimate cause, I suspect that it was some kind of non-
standard optimization by the Sharp people. This machine has a number of
peculiarities that cause problems with Ubuntu. The most annoying is that
the network adapter still doesn't initialize properly, even in Hardy
Heron. Each time I boot, I have to right click on the network and
unselect Enable Networking, and then do it again and select it as
enabled, and after about 10 seconds it will connect to the network.
There's also a problem with the display driver that freezes it once in a
while in Gutsy, but I haven't used Heron enough to know if that bug has
been fixed.

[Bug 218760] Re: Dock with USB devices + suspend == resume fails

2008-05-06 Thread Daniel Gnoutcheff
I can confirm this behavior on a Thinkpad R61 7733A82 (with Intel
graphics) on a ThinkPad Essential Port Replicator while running 64-bit
Ubuntu with a USB to parallel-port-printer accessory.

This bug also appears to be a kernel *regression*. This was not an issue
in Gutsy. Now, the upgrade has left Gutsy's 2.6.22 kernel sitting
around, and I find I can boot Hardy with that kernel; when I do so, this
bug is not present.

DaveAbrahams: am I correct to interpret your posts as saying that the
DOUBLE_CONSOLE_SWITCH workaround worked for you? It does not work for
me. Frankly, I'm surprised that /etc/defaults/acpi-support would do
anything, since acpi-support does not handle
suspend/hibernate/resume/thaw anymore (if I understand correctly).

Hi Stephan Schnitzer!

I am using office Excel 2003, Let me put it brief.

v 8 6 4
z 3 6 9
f 7 7 4
g 32 78 0

Assume A, B, C, and are the columns.

If I sort by Col A, in oocalc only A is sorted and not the other
columns, and if let say column B, C and D are data related to A. Then
the data wont be consistence to each other, the integrity is gone. I
hope you understand what I am saying.

In excel if you sort like this, a popup dialog appear asking you to sort
the other cell. I have attach the JPEG from excel function in the way I

2008-05-06 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Ok, the package built fine with that patch, so you can find it here:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/tjaalton/ubuntu dapper main

I'll upload to dapper-proposed once I get a confirmation that it fixes
the problem, so please test.

[Bug 227190] [NEW] symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/gst-0.10/gst/_gst.so: undefined symbol: gst_control_source_get_type

I don't know if this is related, but I get a similar error when starting

I'm getting the The network link was interrupted while negotiating a

It works however with wget and midori.

I will look into it and if I find something useful it will be posted

However, putting an executable file with the following contents in

[Bug 218736] Re: [Hardy] xine/mplayer/vlc/gstreamer output video in wrong colourspace

2008-05-06 Thread Chocwise
I confirm this Bug.
I use Compiz Fusion on my Hardy. I wasn't able to see if special Video's
changed the colors. It seems to happen at random to me, when I start a video.
Changing from auto to opengl in gxine works for me as well.
My System: Intel Core 2 Duo 2x 2,2 GHz, Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT with the
Nvidia-Drivers from the restricted Repository.

Thanks to Dirk for the Workaround with the gxine-Settings. Without that
I'd have to restart X to get back the normal colors. :)

[Bug 227195] [NEW] Caps lock toggle reversed

2008-05-06 Thread Will Kraft
Public bug reported:

Version: 8.04 LTS, upgraded from 7.10
Keyboard model: IBM KB7953
Key map: qwerty

This bug affects all applications that accept text input to the best of
my knowledge. The caps lock key function is reversed since my upgrade.
(I first noticed the bug after typing for an extended period of time, so
the system apparently initializes caps lock by default) Basically, text
is entered in all caps if the caps lock LED is NOT illuminated, while
the text is entered in lower case if the caps lock led on the keyboard
IS illuminated, the opposite of how thing should normally be. The shift
key functions seem to be reversed as well.

Prior to my upgrade, everything worked normally.

[Bug 226597] Re: [hardy] FSC v5505 problem with special keys to set brightness

2008-05-06 Thread cbrmichi
what the key should do:

FN + F8 - brightness down
FN + F9 - brightness up

keycodes:

FN + F9 - 0xef
FN + F8 doesn´t give me any code, i tested all 4 methods provided at the linked
page, but the key works with vista.

identifying the laptop:

FUJITSU SIEMENS
ESPRIMO Mobile V5505
20

dmesg gives me the following for FN+F8:

[ 542.997769] atkbd.c: Unknown key pressed (translated set 2, code 0xd9 on

[Bug 180087] Re: Processes tab causes GLib error

2008-05-06 Thread BandD
Well I was able to fix the problem AND keep my icon set, though the
average user isn't going to want to go through the hassle of this VERY
ugly fix.

It seems that the system monitor doesn't like to use .svg images as
icons; rather it likes .png images. So to resolve this issue I had to
'hide' my firefox icon originally found in
/home/.icons/custom_set/scalable/apps/firefox.svg in a new folder I
created within that same director (named whatever you choose, I choose
firefox. Then I tracked down where the default firefox icons were
kept, which was in /usr/lib/firefox-3.0b5/icons/. I think the really
important one here is mozicon128.png as /usr/share/pixmaps/firefox-3.0
is linked to mozicon128.png. So I opened up Gimp and saved my original
firefox.svg icon as a 128px x 128px .png (and as a 16x16 and 48x48, just
to be safe as files of these sizes also exist in
/usr/lib/firefox-3.0b5/icons/) named mozicon128.png (and mozicon16.png
and mozicon50.png) to a convenient folder. Then I replaced the files in
/usr/lib/firefox-3.0b5/icons/ with my newly created files--you need root
privileges for this. The last thing I had to do was change the path for
my firefox panel launcher. For this I choose my original .svg icon in
it's newly created folder in /home/.icons.../firefox/.

So now firefox and the system monitor work together in harmony. But it
took me an hour of looking for the various icons and testing different
situations out. If someone follows my instructions here, then they will
probably be ready to go in 15-20 minutes, maybe less. But it is an
awful lot of work and if other icons cause similar issues then the whole
process will start over again.

So with that said, the System Monitor should be programmed to find more
suitable icons if it doesn't like the one that is set as the user's
preference. If it comes across a .svg then if should skip it and move
on to the next directory until it finds a suitable .png file instead--as
the panel, nautilus, and all other programs do. A .svg icon should not
keep the system monitor from running. So I agree with Frank.

I've attached the icon causing the issue. The original path was
/home/.icons/CURRENT ICON SET/scalable/apps/firefox.png

[Bug 226525] Re: Unable to update to 7.10 from 7.04, problem with HAL

2008-05-06 Thread Agostino Russo
7.04 upgrades are not supported, since Wubi 7.10 was not an official
release (because the 7.10 kernel did not fully support r/w operations in
loopfiles) and the gap between 7.04 and 8.04 is a bit too wide.

There is a known bug in 8.04 that is probably the reason of what you
experienced (#222690), but it has been fixed and workarounds are
available here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=767540

e-data-server-ui-Message: Key file does not have key 'exchange:__qliu;[EMAIL
PROTECTED]' in group 'Passwords-Exchange'

From this, I can see evolution got an invalid URI 'owaauth.dll'. Such URI is
the used as the POST URI of a form-based authentication of OWA. Here is the
HTML code from the OWA authentication page:

form action=owaauth.dll method=POST name=logonForm autocomplete=off
input type=hidden name=destination
value=https://mail.company.com/exchange;
input type=hidden name=flags value=0
input type=hidden name=forcedownlevel value=0

Our company uses a customized HTML page as the form-based authentication
page. Here, the action URI is a relative URI containing only
owaauth.dll. It is relative to
https://mail.company.com/exchweb/bin/auth/owalogon.asp?url=https://mail.company.com/exchangereason=0replaceCurrent=1;.
So the actual absolute URI should be
https://mail.company.com/exchweb/bin/auth/owaauth.dll;. Firefox and
Internet Explorer both have the correct behavior, while evolution-
exchange connector thought owaauth.dll is an absolute URI (though in
most cases, it is an absolute URI like /exchweb/bin/auth/owaauth.dll).

The fix should be parsing the POST URIs per standard like Firefox and IE
do.
