[Bug 110581] Re: strange behavior and system hangs after a few minutes after resume form hibernation on hp compaq nx7400

2008-05-15 Thread booxter
I have no such problem. I used vanilla linux-2.6.25.2.tar.bz2 tarball, copied
/boot/config-2.6.24-16-generic to .config, made make oldconfig (just pressed
Enter on all the questions), then built it - and here it is!
I think the difference maybe be the result of our different nx7400
configuration. I have a Pentium M version, not Core Duo processor in it.

[Bug 81396] Re: After sync palm says: HotSync operation was interrupted

2008-05-15 Thread Matt Davey
John,
This discussion relates to a specific bug backing up databases in gnome-pilot.
It's not the best place to discuss bluetooth sync issues. Are you using
gnome-pilot? If so, bluetooth synchronisation is not supported until version
2.0.16, which is not yet available in Ubuntu (as far as I know). You can try
downloading the source from gnome.org and building it yourself if you want to
give it a go.

[Bug 227717] Re: interface.py crashed with ImportError in module()

2008-05-15 Thread Kame
SOLVED.

My problem was dued to ATi drivers previously installed from ATi packager 's
.debs and not to envy ones!
I had installed Cat 8.4 from ATi build .deb to test them out.
Unfortunatly diversion on file LibGL.so.1 wasn't removed by ATi deb uninstall.
The result was a corrupted system.

Thanks to Alberto I've figured out how to solve it:

sudo mv /usr/lib/fglrx /usr/lib/bakfglrx
sudo dpkg-divert --rename --remove /usr/lib/libGL.so.1
sudo rm /usr/lib/bakfglrx

Now everything is back to normal. With envy packed drivers running
great.

I think we could definitely close this bug...

[Bug 226561] Re: Can't escape full screen mode

2008-05-15 Thread James Legg
I have found that there is a button to leave full screen mode only when
I enable the navigation toolbar, which is then displayed in full screen
mode. So Firefox doesn't provide you with any kind of visual toolbar to
click on in full screen mode in ubuntu is wrong.

I have moved what I needed from the navigation toolbar to the menu bar
and turned off the navigation toolbar to save space. I do not think this
is an unreasonable thing to expect a user to do.

Again, I know the F11 keyboard shortcut, but I don't have any keys that
map to F11. My actual F11 key is mapped to middle click, this is the
Ubuntu default for my hardware. Also, any user who wasn't aware of the
shortcut would not know how to escape full screen mode in this
situation.

Users of Firefox should able to get out of full screen mode when they
use it with the navigation toolbar disabled, regardless of their memory
of the keyboard shortcut. This is a serious usability issue, and I think
that makes it a worthwhile bug.

[Bug 227475] Re: libao.so contains hardcoded paths

2008-05-15 Thread Daniel A. Freer
** Summary changed:

- zsnes 64-bit searches for libao files incorrectly
+ libao.so contains hardcoded paths

** Description changed:

- ZSNES cannot be compiled as a 64-bit binary, and therefore uses 32-bit
- libraries on 64-bit systems. A 64-bit package could be made of the
- 32-bit binary relatively easy (whether it would violate Debians
- packaging standards or not IDK).
+ libao2 currently hard codes the paths to it's plugins, located in
+ /usr/lib/ao/plugins-2/.

- Among others, it uses libao for sound output. In Hardy+ only, libao is
- available in the package ia32-libs (before Hardy, one had to download
- the 32-bit libao and install it manually). ia32-libs correctly places
- libao packages at the following path:
+ This can be shown by running this command:
+ [code]strings /usr/lib/libao.so.2 | grep / [/code]

- From http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/amd64/ia32-libs/filelist
- /usr/lib32/ao/plugins-2/libalsa09.so
- /usr/lib32/ao/plugins-2/libarts.so
- /usr/lib32/ao/plugins-2/libesd.so
- /usr/lib32/ao/plugins-2/libnas.so
- /usr/lib32/ao/plugins-2/liboss.so
- /usr/lib32/ao/plugins-2/libpulse.so
+ This becomes a problem when the 32-bit version of libao is used on a
+ 64-bit system. It'll check /usr/lib/ao/plugins-2/ instead of
+ /usr/lib32/ao/plugins-2/, which causes a segfault in zsnes (a 32-bit
+ only binary).

- However, zsnes currently seems to only look for the 32-bit libraries in
/usr/lib/ao/plugins-2/, leading to a segfault within zsnes when compiled with
--enable-libao and run using the OSS driver like so:
- ./zsnes -ad oss
+ This can temporarily be fixed on user's systems by symbolically linking
+ the 32-bit plugins located in /usr/lib32/ao/plugins-2/ to
+ /usr/lib/ao/plugins-2/. A better fix would be to use a relative path
+ such as ./ao/plugins-2/ instead of the absolute path of
+ /usr/lib/ao/plugins-2/.

- A fix that works is to symbolically link the 32-bit libs in
/usr/lib32/ao/plugins-2/ to /usr/lib/ao/plugins-2/, making sure not to
overwrite the already existing 64-bit libs. Most of this information I believe
I've covered in detail on the ubuntu forums thread I created:
+ This affects ia32-libs in hardy especially, since it now contains
+ libao2.

[Bug 230780] [NEW] Broadcom glitch in 2.6.24-17

2008-05-15 Thread douglas_smith
Public bug reported:

pertinent lspci output:
Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI (rev 01)

Wireless worked flawlessly under the -16 generic kernel with this
integrated card. Update to -17 generic appears to have broken something.

APs are visible, but connection fails. Even to unsecured APs...
Took the lazy way out and reverted to use of -16 kernel so I could use my
wireless.

Just ask if more info is needed.

[Bug 227704] Re: Error checking out a Subversion repository

2008-05-15 Thread Russel Winder
I think bzr-svn 0.4.10 cures this bug. Certainly I have been able to
successfully checkout the Subversion repository into a Bazaar shared
repository without error. The problem with 0.4.9 remains reproducible
though, however as this is a consequence of deleting the SVK annotations
from a Subversion store, this could be considered a unique circumstance.

[Bug 195784] Re: Please sync 1.6.0.1 with debianSync request.

2008-05-15 Thread Lee Garrett
(argh ... missed to subscribe to this bug.)

Yes, labplot 1.6.0 fixes some important bugs I ran as I still ran
debian/sid.

See here:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=409551
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=409490

I think this is rather nasty as I ran into the first one (which is far more
annoying) quite often.
And if you don't save all the time, some of your work might be gone then :(

Regards,
Lee

When I have used Gutsy Gibbon it worked fine. When printing with Inkscape the

[Bug 227742] Re: package nvidia-glx-new 169.12+2.6.24.12-16.34 failed to uninstall

2008-05-15 Thread mmharris
hey sorry for the delay, i was pounding away and my brain and forums
yesterday so i eventually went to sleep!

ok so good news and bad news

I reinstalled the whole system and left the nvidia-glx-new package alone, and I
installed the beta driver from NVIDIA:

  NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-173.08-pkg2.run
 or
 -171.06-...

So both drivers installed perfectly and build their own files for the system
after a clean install. ok so Compiz-Fusion was
BEAUTIFUL on my new Gateway 24 monitor! (1900 x 1200 resolution) I just
mean BEAUTIFUL!

And the bad news everything was great until I rebooted and Ubuntu
reverts to low-graphics mode, yes I had, oh wait I mean still have right
this moment 640 x 480 on this beautiful 24 LOL its ironically funny
really...

ok and on the bright side, Compiz-Fusion is still running and is doing
its job with the cube and all because luckily even though the resolution
reset, direct rendering is still enabled so all in that matter is still
fully functional!

I'm not sure but it could be as simple as waiting until the drivers are
not Beta drivers anymore because out of all the drivers I have installed
or should I say tried to install these two are the only two that work
for if I am correct the whole 9 series of NVIDIA cards if not a few
others that may have not worked before. On their website it gives
details about the drivers and what new bugs were fixed but it may just
be they have not come across this one quite yet, thus why they are still
Beta drivers and not final releases.

Although it is a little painful looking and this resolution I am
actually quite proud of my failure LOL because I have been pounding away
at this driver since Monday and did not get anywhere until yesterday.
Most of this is probably because I am new to Linux and well I can say
through this I learned the Beauty of the shell. The beta drivers where
the first actual file that I have run in the shell as opposed to running
just a few commands that executed in their own way. The beta drivers
were very straight forward once you get them running and just a few
strokes on the keyboard and its finished, so do try a clean install and
see if you have the same trouble.

I left my previous install and its partition alone because I had the
space so now I can play with that and see what I can mess up or
hopefully improve...

I am going to switch over to the 32-bit install of Hardy and try the
same drivers and see if they have trouble there as well and I will post
a follow-up on that!

Thanks guys!

-Mark

[Bug 230789] [NEW] Liferea font size in feeds changes at random

2008-05-15 Thread James Hall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: liferea

The text in the feed text frame of Liferea (1.4.14-0ubuntu4) changes
arbitrarily. On opening the program I notice that the font size has
shrunk from what would normally be expected. However logging out then
back in fixes this problem with no need to alter the text size settings.

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy) and I'm using the Firefox 3 beta 5 release
that comes with the default install (It's my understanding that Liferea
uses the gecko engine to render feeds.)

I have this issue (8.04). I did not have it in previous releases 7.10, 7.04.
CPU goes very high.
Very noticable with dirs of 1000+ entries.

Please re-open and fix. This is a serious issue.
Is it related to the 25 year old BSD bug?

[Bug 117730] Re: cannot use sqlite3 on cifs mount

2008-05-15 Thread Radomir Dopieralski
We have also run into this problem with our installations. We have over
300 workstations at our university, all have CIFS-mounted home
directories. So far we managed to somehow avoid using any applications
that used SQLite, but now with Firefox3 using it we are in a very
difficult situation.

As a temporary measure we use a custom compiled SQLite library with the
-DSQLITE_DISABLE_DIRSYNC=1 flag enabled, as per advice in
http://sqlite.org/cvstrac/tktview?tn=1751

Of course this makes all the databases sensitive to data corruption.

[Bug 214156] Re: openoffice.org-base openoffice.org-core not installing

2008-05-15 Thread bmarsh
(Hardy) I am currently unable to install many of the Openoffice
modules, including the updates that are available.

The error is that dpkg cannot unpack the modules/updates because
'liblzma.so.0' is not found. I have been unable to find any such lib.

This problem started to occur under gutsy and has occurred now on 4
different machines.

[Bug 197068] Re: No stream found to handle url dvd://1 in 8.04 Alpha 5

2008-05-15 Thread m_yates
Did anyone try adding -dvd-device to the mplayer or gmplayer start
command?

I found in Hardy that this command won't work:

gmplayer dvd://1

It results in the error No stream found to handle url dvd://1

However, this command works:

gmplayer -dvd-device /dev/scd0 dvd://1

2008-05-15 Thread Ours
before I install myspell-fr I had nothing at all: SpellCheck don't see
anything.
- with myspell-fr it works for some words but not for all. For example it don't
recognize à very common in French!
- with myspell-fr-gut it's much more better but some words are still not
recognize.

[Bug 230799] [NEW] Anagramarama causes video weirdness

2008-05-15 Thread Elijah Bailey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: anagramarama

Expected behavior: Anagramarama will play nice with my computer. It
will not cause issues with my display.

Actual Result: Upon starting the anagramarama application the video goes
blank. It comes back, but if the application is left open, when my
screensaver comes on, the LCD flickers badly. This does not happen when
anagramarama is not left open.

I did not notice this issue before the purchase of the LCD, however, the
upgrade to hardy and the purchase of the lcd were on the same day.

I am using Hardy Heron - recently updated from Gutsy
I have an ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 512MB DDR2, PCI Express Video Card
I am using the fglrx proprietary ATI accelerated graphics driver that came with
hardy
I have a Samsung 245BW Lcd screen

[Bug 223235] Re: ata probing delays booting by 1/2 minute

2008-05-15 Thread Tormod Volden
Unfortunately, all_generic_ide seems to reduce performance drastically.
Everything disk intensive (update-manager, firefox, etc) becomes really
slow. Seems like top reports a lot of hi time (hardware interrupts?).
I have thus gone back to the default, slow booting.

[Bug 186382] Re: [nvidia 169.xx] gtk window decorator somtimes draws decoration ugly or not at all

2008-05-15 Thread Sympy
According to what Dusan said, it originally pointed to libnvidia-

I'd guess this is the /usr/lib/xorg/modules/libnvidia-wfb.so.169.12
provided in the nvidia-glx-new package.

[Bug 230797] [NEW] Totem crashes after using sleep mode

2008-05-15 Thread Atax
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

If my IBM Z60m was in sleep mode, then I try to play a mp3 file
with Totem, which is then crashing. Sometimes the notebook
freezes totaly with absolutly no reaction of the keyboard,
or somtetimes the LC display shows a complete distorted picture
and the notebook freezes also. Under Gutsy Gibbon there was no
fault like this; it worked fine.

[Bug 230804] [NEW] Street Address missing when importing contacts (ldiff format)

2008-05-15 Thread Jorge de la Garza
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I'm moving from Windows Vista to Ubuntu 8.04.
And I'm moving from Outlook 2007 to Evolution 2.22.1
I installed Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.14 on my Windows Vista Computer, and
Import the mails and contacts from Outlook into Thunderbird.

From thunderbird I exported the Contacts in LDIF format, and move the
contacts.ldif file to my ubuntu machine... I imported the contacts.ldif
file and it imported successfully.

I realized that some information is missing such as the street address of each
contact.
I opened the ldif file and that information is in there... It is just that it
is not importing as it should be.

I expect to have all the information of my contacts in Evolution.
I've been looking in forums and the web, and I have seen that I'm not the only
one having such a problem.

Is there any workaround, patch or solution for this?
