[Bug 239947] [NEW] HAL crashes with generated smb.conf

2008-06-14 Thread Daniel Fett
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

Yesterday I installed and ran gsambad to configure my samba shares. It was a
bit more complicated than expected, so I didn't complete the configuration. But
from the time the new smb.conf was written, the HAL stopped working:
- Nautilus crashed constantly
- When I restarted I got a message Failed to initialize HAL
At first, I didn't expect that this was caused by the new smb.conf and tried
reconfiguring HAL, restarting HAL and so on. Without success. After 2 hours I
did a dpkg-reconfigure samba and everything was fixed.

I think it shouldn't be possible to crash the HAL via smb.conf :-)

(I'm not sure whether this is a bug in samba in HAL...)

Hardy Heron,
samba 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.1
hal 0.5.11~rc2-1ubuntu8.1

[Bug 230016] Re: [intrepid] Rebuild with perl 5.10

2008-06-14 Thread Colin Watson
vim (1:7.1.293-3ubuntu1) intrepid; urgency=low

  * Merge from debian unstable (LP: #234766), remaining changes:
- Enable detection of GNU screen as a mouse-capable terminal.
- Add NoDisplay=true to gvim.desktop.
- Drop vim-lesstif package and lesstif2-dev build-dependency.
- Build-depend on libxt-dev.
- Restore a number of Conflicts/Replaces and include
  /usr/share/man/ru.{KOI8-R,UTF-8}{,/man1}, both to help with upgrade
  problems from 6.06.
- Enable Python interpreter on basic builds.
- Create a .pot file for translations.
- Disable autoindent, line-wrapping, and backup files by default.
- Omni completion for Launchpad bugs.

vim (1:7.1.293-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * runtime/syntax/debchangelog.vim,debsources.vim:
- Update the list of supported Ubuntu releases.
  * debian/policy/vim-policy.xml:
- Remove svn keywords since it's not being stored in svn anymore.
  * debian/vim-variant.postinst:
- Remove switching on $1 since it's safe to always add the alternatives.
  * debian/vim-variants.prerm:
- Add removal of alternatives during deconfigure. (Closes: #411697)
  * debian/README.Debian:
- Add information about mimicing Vim's default modeline behavior and the
  securemodelines plugin.  (Closes: #479060)
  * debian/rules:
- Separate build-arch and build-indep targets so Vim's policy document
  aren't built on the buildd's (thus avoiding the openjade segfault on
  arm).
  * debian/control:
- Move docbook-utils and docbook-xml to Build-Depends-Indep
  * src/if_python.c:
- If building against Python 2.5, use ssize_t instead of int according to
  PEP 353.

Does usage of sybase_connect() changed ? or anything else I don't know ?
Nobody else use sybase_ct with php ? Why always migrage sybase with mssql?
they are same in early age and have big difference now.

[Bug 239832] Re: SATA disk not recognized

2008-06-14 Thread aurelieng
Thank you for your quick replies :)

The problem happens with a external disk containing nothing but data.
This disk is usually disconnected when the laptop boots, and is
connected/disconnected from time to time by plugging the pccard to which
it is connected to, when I need to access the data it contains. The
system is thus boots and behaves normally, except that the disk is not
recognized anymore when I plug the pccard, as it used to be the case
before the last reboot, which occured yesterday. Once the pccard is
plugged, the system stays responsive, nothing happens from a user point
of view, but the message I sent are printed in the logs.

About the kernel I am using, I know it is already quite old, but nothing
else is proposed by apt-get or adept. I guess this is the current
version for Gutsy, but I may be wrong ?

[Bug 239926] [NEW] middle button to open a new tab

2008-06-14 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

1- If you left-click on the dropdown button to the left of the URL bar,
and then click on an URL, you're taken to that address.

2 - If you click on the button, then MIDDLE-CLICK on the URL, firefox
opens it on a new tab.

Something I usually do is clicking the dropdown button and keep pressed,
then release the button when I'm over the desired URL that allows me to
perform operation no.1 with just one click.

I would like to be able to perform operation no.2 with just one click
too, that is, MIDDLE-CLICKING the dropdown button and keep pressed, then
release when I'm over the desired URL to open it on a new tab. But it
seems middle-clicking the dropdown button has no effect at all.

[Bug 66051] Re: [users-admin] Adding a previously existing user fails silently

2008-06-14 Thread Alan
OK, so here are the steps:

1. Go to System- Administration - Users and Groups
2. Unlock administrative privileges using your password
3. Click Add User
4. Enter: Username=test12; User Password=any; Confirmation=any
5. Click OK
6. The new user appears on the list
7. Click Close
8. Go to System- Administration - Users and Groups
9. The user is gone from the list...

Now - the list is just the symptom of course, the user was never
defined. Here's what you see when you invoke users-admin from a terminal
window:

(users-admin:7738): Liboobs-CRITICAL **: create_dbus_struct_from_user:
assertion `(login password homedir shell)' failed

(users-admin:7738): Liboobs-CRITICAL **: Not committing due to
inconsistencies in the configuration, this reflects a bug in the
application

So it is reporting some kind of error but I'm not sure what that error
is...

Lastly - yes, it happens with any user name.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

[Bug 239928] [NEW] KDE3 hangs out, KDE4 still working

2008-06-14 Thread garich
Public bug reported:

I had experienced a crash that i can't repair with my linux knowledge. I was
customizing my desktop (KDE3) with some themes, cursors, icons etc.
I've just installed Silver X11 cursors, that required logout. When I log in at
first sight everything was fine until i tried to do some job with the task
panel. The whole panel dissapeared and left a blank desktop screen (I could see
the wallpaper though) with working right button mouse menu. I could log out and
log in. The next time the desktop screen got black and i could see only the
task panel with the buttons. If i try to customize the panel (like removing
shortcut, or adjusting spaces etc.) however the panel also dissapear and a
BLACK SCREEN with a moving mouse is the only thing left. The right mouse button
menu ISN'T working anymore. So the only option left is to reboot with the shut
down button of my pc box.
Luckily for me I've installed KDE 4 some days ago and when I reboot and get to
the login manager i choose the KDE4 which (for now) works normally and i could
post that bug.
What should I do to get the old things back to normal.

[Bug 239929] [NEW] Not possible to switch language in address bar

2008-06-14 Thread gelin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Kubuntu Hardy
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008060309 Firefox/3.0

It's not possible to switch language when typing something to Firefox
address bar and list of suggestions is appeared.

How to reproduce:
0. Two or more keyboard layouts must be installed in your KDE system.
1. Start typing of address in Firefox address bar. For example, start to use
quick searches, type google .
2. List of suggestions must appear below the address bar. (If not so you should
create some history of similar addresses.)
3. Try to switch language to search something Russian in Google, for example.
Actual result:
It's not possible to switch language until you close suggestions list by
clicking to address bar.
Expected result:
It should be possible to always switch language.

[Bug 239931] [NEW] Please make it possible to have more than four keyboard layouts

2008-06-14 Thread Scott Severance
Public bug reported:

I'd like to be able to toggle between more than four keyboard layouts.
My current layout is US English. I sometimes switch to US International
when I want to type accented characters, as well as ©®¿¡, etc. I'm
learning Dvorak, so my third layout is US Dvorak. Finally, I sometimes
need to type Greek and Hebrew, but I have to choose between the two
since I can only have four layouts.

Please remove the limit on the number of layouts.

Now with the new gvfs we can see the share with firefox, browse them

with thunderbird it is possible to browse, open and save file to a
remote share (I tried sftp and Samba/windows shares)

A work around would be most welcome

[Bug 67129] Re: notification-daemon using 237MB of memory

2008-06-14 Thread Steve Beattie
I've reproduced the bug in the version of notification-daemon included
in the Hardy 8.04 release, and have verified that the package in Hardy-
proposed definitely improves the memory usage of it -- doing (in bash):

  $ for ((i = 1; i = 1000; i++)) ; do notify-send -i
/usr/share/icons/Human/48x48/places/distributor-logo.png Message $i
This is message $i ; done

caused the -proposed version to use about an additional 7.5M of memory
versus 57M for the version released in 8.04 (ia32 versions, the amd64
version in -proposed increases by about 10M). There is still likely more
more memory leaks, as the memory usage appears to grow without bound if
the for-loop is repeated multiple times, and it would be nice to address
those, but the -proposed package is a significant enough improvement to
mark this fix as verified.

I don't make extensive use of the notification-daemon, but I noticed no
regressions despite the heavy use I was giving it in for loops, plus the
occasional application usage.

[Bug 239485] Re: sound card not detected after update

2008-06-14 Thread eyefry
thanks, you guys. i don't know what the trouble was, but in the process
of checking for all the above information and restarting, my sound's
started working again. there were a couple of things that i installed
along the way, like for the lspnp reading. maybe that's what fixed it.
i'm a noob and not a programmer either, so i have no idea what happened.
thanks anyway :)

[Bug 220656] Re: zenity --progress cancel button doesn't return a value

2008-06-14 Thread bodhi.zazen
This looks like an old report, but I ran into the same type of issue.

I do not have a solution, but an ugly hack to test if zenity is running
and if not kill the children processes.

That statement just looks wrong o.O

At any rate ...

Take a command foo ...

foo | zenity --progress --auto-kill # Need to add an at the end so the
script continues.
RUNNING=0
while [ $RUNNING - eq 0 ]
do
 if [ -z $(pidof zenity) ] ; then
pkill foo # You may need to kill -9 `pidof foo`
RUNNING=1
fi
done

NOTE : this just kills the children precesses, you may also want to
clean up after them (remove temp files ...)

[Bug 239938] [NEW] Update disables lircd.conf (i.e. the remote control) without appropriate notice

2008-06-14 Thread TEN
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lirc

A package update apparently distributed on or around 2008-06-11 renames
/etc/lirc/lircd.conf to /etc/lirc/lircd.conf.dpkg-old - causing the
remote to fail due to having its configuration overwritten with a file
containing only these comment lines:

#This configuration has been automatically generated via
#the Ubuntu LIRC package maintainer scripts.
#
#It includes the default configuration for the remote and/or
#transmitter that you have selected during package installation.
#
#Feel free to add any custom remotes to the configuration
#via additional include directives or below the existing
#Ubuntu include directives from your selected remote and/or
#transmitter.

#No default remote configuration was included for Home-brew (16x50 UART
compatible serial port)
#You will need to include your own custom configuration for
#this remote, and file a bug at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lirc/+filebug

...which I hereby do, in spite of this appearing to be an omission in
the package installer rather than a bug in the source as such.

This behaviour might cause users some headaches as not everyone is
supposed to know that this is easily remedied by testing the remote
(typically requiring the physical presence of root to push its buttons
though) and rolling back the changes by performing e.g. the following
steps:

irw
cd /etc/lirc
/etc/init.d/lirc stop
cp lircd.conf lircd.conf.dpkg_2008-06-11
cp lircd.conf.dpkg-old lircd.conf
/etc/init.d/lirc start
irw

Given that it is not known whether /etc/lirc/lircd.conf.dpkg-old will be
preserved over multiple generations of updates, the automatic
replacement of /etc/lirc/lircd.conf without warning might lead to final
loss of one's configuration even if submitted for inclusion with
http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/, as no updates have been made
available on the latter since 2008-03-02.

 trying to overwrite `/usr/share/games/warzone2100/mods/global/grim.wz', which
is also in package warzone2100

Description of what I think happened:
You installed/tried to install the Warzone 2100 version included in Hardy Heron
(warzone2100_2.1.0~0.svn3595.dfsg.1-1_i386.deb). Additionally you
installed/tried to install the corresponding data-package. The data-package has
at least one file that is also included in the warzone2100-package. Both files
(grim.wz) should be exactly the same, so overwriting should not be a problem.

How you could work around this problem:
I have not checked those two packages and do not use them at all. Instead I am
using the latest stable version (2.0.10) which is also available as a
.deb-package at the Gna! project site
(http://download.gna.org/warzone/releases/2.0/). It is working with Ubuntu 8.04
Hardy Heron (i386).

I recommend to not use the more or less randomly chosen outdated svn-
versions included in the Ubuntu repositories as reporting bugs for those
versions is almost no use (one would have to verify the existance of the
bug in the current svn-version).

Possible source of the bug:
This could be a bug in the packages, but the package-maintainer could tell you
more about it.

[Bug 239946] [NEW] initscript fails silently because of optimized modules

2008-06-14 Thread Kjell Braden
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cryptsetup

My /etc/crypttab contains the following disk which is not yet mapped:

$ cat /etc/crypttab
sdb_crypt /dev/sdb /keyfile luks

But the initscript won't process it:

$ sudo LC_ALL=C invoke-rc.d cryptdisks start
 * Starting remaining crypto disks...

 invoke-rc.d: initscript
cryptdisks, action start failed.

Debug output gave me the following:
$ sudo LC_ALL=C bash -x /etc/init.d/cryptdisks start
[ for the full output, see attached file bash debug output ]
[ ... ]
+ load_optimized_module
+ local module optmodule
+ module=
+++ uname -r
++ find /lib/modules/2.6.24-18-generic/kernel/arch -name '*.ko'
+ optmodule=
$
Here the script stops. I've investigated the code in
/lib/cryptsetup/cryptdisks.functions and noticed that the load_optimized_module
function takes the module that should be loaded as an argument, but is called
without any arguments in do_start (line 592 for me). I'm not entirely sure
where the module should come from, but simply removing the call did the trick
for me (aes_x86_64 was already loaded because I've a cryptroot).

[Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.

2008-06-14 Thread redfox
I have a question that does not directly concern this bug but is
somewhat related. On my system, there is some inconsistency in the way
the icons of the machines containing the shares are displayed in
Nautilus. Most of the time, they are displayed correctly, i.e. inside
the workgroup. However, sometimes they also appear alongside the
Windows Network icon, i.e. just after clicking on Network.

Can anybody explain this inconsistency? Could it possibly point to
another bug in Ubuntu 8.04?

[Bug 239524] Re: [new-upstream] Brasero 0.7.90

2008-06-14 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
Please upload new Brasero version to Ubuntu - it will fix lots of
important bugs, like bug #199561 (Brasero cannot burn a CD ISO image to
DVD+RW); bug #226209 (Brasero requieres 4GiB on /tmp to burn an iso
image on DVD); bug #198771 (Brasero is still running with gnome_vfs) and
others.
