[Bug 242552] Re: R version 2.7.1 recently released

2008-06-24 Thread Colin Watson
For the record, you don't need to ask the Ubuntu archive admins for this
if the package hasn't been modified in Ubuntu and if it's before
DebianImportFreeze; we take care of it semi-automatically.

[Bug 242647] [NEW] Importing Pictures from a digital camera using f-spot or gthumb fails to preserve creation date timestamp

2008-06-24 Thread philinux
Public bug reported:

Using kernel 2.6.24-19-generic

Connected camera via usb. Imported photo's via F-spot or Gthumb only to find
that the date modified of all the pics was todays date, ie the system date/time
on my pc, and not the date the picture was taken. Previously files imported in
gutsy had the date taken as the creation date from the camera files.
Within the properties window under the image tab is the correct taken date.

[Bug 242249] Re: Gwenview is default for EPS although unable to open them

2008-06-24 Thread Magnus Lundborg
Thank you for reporting this bug.

I can confirm that Gwenview cannot open EPS files, even if it thinks it
can. When opening a folder containing eps files in Gwenview they are
shown as thumbnails in the preview, but they cannot be opened.

The underlying bug seems to be in Gwenview, but for now I think it is
good to do as suggested, i.e. to make Okular the default application to
open EPS files or temporarily remove Gwenview as a choice for opening
EPS files.

[Bug 219192] Re: [hardy] livecd: keyword persistent results in busybox and (initramfs)

2008-06-24 Thread Vincent
@andi - sorry, I have no experience using loopback files...

@Arafat - ah, it looks like that tutorial already incorporates a
workaround for this fix (i.e. steps 19-21 take care of replacing the
initrd.gz). You should then just be able to insert a USB drive (no
LiveCD needed at this point), boot it and it's supposed to work.

[Bug 211252] Re: Cannot recieve files using bluetooth

bluetooth support to my friends and colleagues this way! I'm going to
report this to Canonical if it's not solved, shame on you bluetooth

[Bug 242607] Re: cannot move the window to a different Workspace

2008-06-24 Thread Ralph Janke
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

 At a minimum, we need:
 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
 2. the behavior you expected, and
 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
 Thanks!

[Bug 242651] [NEW] jackd, freebob, Focusrite Saffire LE, TI ieee1394 chipset FAIL

I cannot begin to describe how vexing this problem is. I have spent a
fantastic amount - for someone on a student's budget - on hardware that
is supposed to be working. And before you ask, the cables are fine. I
have tested the Saffire LE on Windows and OS X, with a variety of
cables, and IT WORKS. I've tried THREE different Firewire devices. I'm
now down nearly $800 Australian dollars on this project, and I need some
answers, some help or something.

[Bug 242651] Re: jackd, freebob, Focusrite Saffire LE, TI ieee1394 chipset FAIL

2008-06-24 Thread prismatic7
Also, note that this is NOT a duplicate of Bug #231085, which refers to
the inbuilt RICOH chipset in my Dell XPS M1210 laptop and the same card.
Which never garnered a damn reply, so I don't even know why I mention
it.

[Bug 237568] Re: GNU parted is outdated

2008-06-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package parted - 1.8.8.git.2008.03.24-7ubuntu1

---
parted (1.8.8.git.2008.03.24-7ubuntu1) intrepid; urgency=low

  * Resynchronise with Debian (LP: #237568). Remaining changes:
- swap-uuid.dpatch: Create UUIDs on new swap partitions.
- gptsync.dpatch: On Intel Mac systems, write a synced MBR rather than a
  protective MBR.
- Add -fno-stack-protector on sparc.
- sparc-new-label.dpatch: Fix sparc disk label generation. This is
required for LDOM and parallel installations with Solaris 10.
- loop-partitions.dpatch: Loop devices can only have one partition, so
don't generate device names such as /dev/loop0p1.
- unpartitioned-disks.dpatch: Don't try to call BLKPG ioctls on
unpartitionable disks (only implemented for loop devices at the
moment), as they will always fail.
- When building with gcc-4.3, add -Wno-array-bounds to CFLAGS.
- Cell partition tables are misdetected as pc98, so disable pc98 support
  on powerpc.
- array-bounds.dpatch: Backport patch from git to allow building with
  gcc-4.3.

parted (1.8.8.git.2008.03.24-7) unstable; urgency=low

  * Upload to unstable

parted (1.8.8.git.2008.03.24-6) experimental; urgency=low

  [ Otavio Salvador ]
  * Give the parted udeb a menu item number. This allows it to be
selected manually in anna. Update the udeb description for
consistency and remove the long description to save space. Thanks to
Frans Pop [EMAIL PROTECTED] (closes: #466826).

  [ Jim Meyering ]
  * test for improved DOS-partition-table recognition

  [ Colin Watson ]
  * bug fix: improve DOS partition table recognition

  [ Jim Meyering ]
  * avoid const-related compiler warnings

parted (1.8.8.git.2008.03.24-5) experimental; urgency=low

  * Disable LVM support for dasd labels

parted (1.8.8.git.2008.03.24-4) experimental; urgency=low

  [ Otavio Salvador ]
  * properly test for __s390__ and __s390x__ macros to disable O_DIRECT
on that

  [ Matt Davis ]
  * Corrected a few memory leaks from unallocated ped_unit_format calls.
  * Corrected memory leak when displaying partition flags.
  * Corrected a small memory leak when displaying partition information

  [ Otavio Salvador ]
  * do not loop in case message exception has no message
  * fix memory leak in exception handler
  * Ensure that autoreconf uses aclocal 1.0

parted (1.8.8.git.2008.03.24-3) experimental; urgency=low

Re: [Bug 219192] Re: [hardy] livecd: keyword persistent results in busybox and (initramfs)

2008-06-24 Thread ArafatMedini
I used the tutorials on pendrivelinux with a tutorial on the ubuntu wiki
pages to get a live CD and a usb stick working together.

Because I cannot boot from USB sticks on the different pcs I am
frequenting.

The point is, I am not a linux expert. I tried to use that tutorial only
because it easily explained to me at that time how to format my USB stick.

I inserted then the Live CD, inserted the USB stick, switched the PC, pushed
F6 on boot and wrote persistent at the prompt.
Then it was possible for me to use the feisty fawn live cd with persistent
mode.

I checked that feisty fawn works with persistent mode but hardy does not
work so I used feisty and did not follow the instructions on changing the
initrd.

Then I discovered the filed bug, tried to change the initrd and failed.

I hope this helps.

In the interest of getting something done with stopmotion I decided to

problem with the amd64 binary or the i386 binary when run on a 64 bit
kernel. Unfortunately I cannot confirm which it is at the moment.

2008-06-24 Thread Vincent
Ah, OK, now I understand what you're trying to do.

I'm curious though: how did you get it to work with Feisty? There was a
bug with Feisty, more difficult to work around than this one, that also
didn't make persistence work.

Anyway, I'm afraid I don't know how to help. Even if you have the new
initrd.gz, you cannot replace it on the CD, so I think you're stuck with
this bug and unable to work around it. You'd have to do with Gutsy until
this bug is fixed in, say, 8.04.1.

[Bug 242337] Re: Upgrade to kernel 2.6.24-19 leads to something wrong with gnome

The problem is not the new kernel. I restored an image of my partition
and installed the updated without the new kernel. This resulted in the
same problem.

[Bug 242611] Re: Only the top left corner of the GDM is shown

2008-06-24 Thread Vincent
Now that you mention it, I did use displayconfig-gtk to raise the
resolution to 1280x1024.

After commenting out the line and logging out I had the feeling it was
zoomed out a little bit more, but I could still only see the top left-
hand side corner. I then pressed Ctrl+Alt+Del and got a message along
the lines of The login manager appears to be crashing, attempting
another one, which didn't work. I had to press Ctrl+Alt+F1 and edit
xorg.conf from the command line to uncomment the line again.

The above was originally

passphrase for `ssh-add -l' seems broken compared to the old behaviour.

[Bug 242667] [NEW] scim-anthy crash when input some-words after pre-edit phase.

2008-06-24 Thread Fumihito YOSHIDA
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: scim-anthy

scim-anthy has crashed down in some situations. When I convert character
string, it happens.
I test with Ubuntu 8.04/x86, but other versions will affected.

[How to reproduce]
1) Open terminal
2) $ gedit
3) Activate scim(type [ctrl]+[space])
4) Type some words ; for example: るいヴぃとん(you can input with 'ruiviton'(*)).
  It called pre-edit phase.
5) Type [space], so scim crashed down and output error messages on your termial.

--
$ gedit
An IOException at scim_bridge_client_handle_key_event ()
An IOException at filter_key_event ()
An IOException at key_snooper ()
An IOException occurred at scim_bridge_client_imcontext_set_cursor_location ()
The messenger is now down
--

(*) ルイヴィトン(it transformed from るいヴぃとん) mean Louis Vuitton in
Japanese.

When it work normaly, you can see Japanese transformed text(For example,
type nihongo;にほんご and type [space], you will see 日本語). This is
serious problem for Japanese users.

2008-06-24 Thread Sten During
LG TX Express Dual.
Intel 3945 ABG
Kubuntu 8.04

Backport modules installed in an attempt to fix this bug. Even
tried the /etc/modules stunt
At least the backport modules gave me my led-light back

The errors above.
As soon as I open up multiple connections (twelve tabs in my
Firefox on start) the connection shuts down as reported above.
This ONLY happens in WEP. Uncrypted connections are stable.

Led-light blacks, but restarting the wireless connection (right
click the network manager) usually gets me my connection
back for another five to ten minutes.

Installing updates with Adept-manager becomes a first class
nightmare, as multiple updates on average take me at least
half an hour due to repeated connection-losses.

I'm not insane enough to even contemplate torrents while
this bug lasts.

I have had not a whisper of a problem under 7.10 and iwp.
This is not a medium problem, this is the kind of problem
that makes laptop-owners change back to Windows from an
otherwise close to flawless Linux-installation. Thankfully it's
summer and I'm not dependent on the computer for work.
That WOULD force me to dig up my old XP-CDs.

 Hi Scott,

Would you mind retesting with the DVD that is being generated right now It
 will
show up on cdimages.ubuntu.com at around 1200UTC April 9th as 20080409. It
contains a newer Ubiquity, so it would be easier to rule your problem out as a
 possibly transient problem.

Sorry for the delay in my response. I can't seem to figure out how to
get email from Launchpad that is directed to me to filter in Thunderbird.

Anyway, I'll be glad to try with the final 8.04 image but I can't seem
to figure out how to get it via rsync.

I had been updating regularly for several weeks up to the 8.04 release
date via rsync but the directory structure has changed and I don't want
to download an entire DVD when I don't have to.

Or should I just wait for 8.04.1 ?

[Bug 233787] Re: No display with Intel x3100 965GM Express

2008-06-24 Thread unggnu
At first please post a current Xorg.0.log with your new xorg.conf to see the
difference.
It is the best to report it upstream I guess but could you please check if this
issue still happens with the unofficial package
http://people.ubuntu.com/~bryce/Testing/intel/hardy-amd64/xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.3.1-1ubuntu1~bwh3_amd64.deb
 of a newer -intel driver.

To install it you have to remove the old i810 driver before.
sudo apt-get remove xserver-xorg-video-i810 xserver-xorg-video-all

And please regenerate your xorg.conf just to be sure.
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

If you want to reset everything do the follow commands.
sudo apt-get remove xserver-xorg-video-intel
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-all

Of course you have to uncomment your current xorg.conf options before X
restart.

However a workaround is either to downgrade to version 1:2.4.0-3ubuntu6 or

[Bug 242530] Re: wine version is too old, can't contribute to AppDB

2008-06-24 Thread Ralph Janke
Thanks for reporting this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better.

As you can see, intrepid has already the new version 1.0 for wine.

The same version is also in hardy-backports. So if you enable hardy-
backports for universe you will be able to upgrade.

Thanks again.

[Bug 141613] Re: npviewer.bin crashed with SIGSEGV

2008-06-24 Thread paddy2706
I have that problem on 8.04 since i got my new notebook (with amd64 cpu).
i don't see a correlation with any other plugin installed since that problem
appeared before installing any plugin too.

It was some of the alphas, but is gone for a while. BT works fine,
except obex in gvfs does not support file writes.
